Best radio I have ever used on VHF/UHF cw /SSB weak signal work, quite, Sensitive and easy to use hardly use preamp with it. I am awaiting my 23cm module. Ed, Can you compare it to an IC910H? [amsat-bb] Re: [VHF] Icom 9100 release date?
You are assuming that Icom would have the menu allow different settings for each band. It still might need to be reset when changing bands. I just wish Icom had gotten the USB/CW switching right in the 910h. As is, you have to re-tune the radio to continue listening to the same signal when switching from USB to CW (or the other way). Even with the retuning, the filters are offset, so when going to CW you lose the low tones received. Icom had this right back in the 271/471, but apparently nobody designing the 910h ever switched to CW to reply to a SSB station. I guess they don't actually *operate* radios. The annoying part is that it could probably be fixed with a firmware update if they had included that possibility (and actually cared enough to release one). Hi Alan..yes, I was assuming that Icom would allow different settings for each band. That might be asking too much. Regarding the USB/CW switching, I am using an array of the "5" series radios here and understand that issue all too well. You are spot on though. Maybe we will get lucky. Would you rather have it in a menu or risk damaging your various amplifiers when you forget to adjust it for whatever input might be required? This would be a moot point if you were going to run the rig barefoot and rove with it. But, if you are a serious op who desires an amp on each band, having to adjust the control from band to band is a pain in the ass and a recipe for disaster. I notice the RF control on the front of the rig. I HOPE they allow menu control out RF output for each band. Otherwise you are going to have an Icom 910 with HF/Six. The TS-2000 does a nice job of allowing various power output levels to deal with amps, etc. It would be a shame if they overlooked this important feature, for the second time. But if you put it in a menu then you will, of course, have everyone griping how the power control is in a menu, like they do for the FT950. 73s JOhn AA5JG --- On Thu, 11/19/09, Crownhaven wrote: > From: Crownhaven > Subject: Re: [VHF] Icom 9100 release date? > To: "John Geiger" > Cc: i...@mailman.qth.net, v...@w6yx.stanford.edu, amsat-bb@amsat.org > Date: Thursday, November 19, 2009, 5:23 PM > I notice the RF control on the front > of the rig.
