[analog-help] Virtual Hosts (Using Separate Logfiles)
Hello I have many virtual hosts with separate logfiles. What is the best way to generate LOGFILE statements for analysing lots of logfiles together? Our list of virtual hosts is very long and constantly changing. Is specifying lots of LOGFILE statements in an Analog configuration file the best way to specify multiple logfiles to analyse? There are so many virtual hosts I may not be able to fit them all in on the command line. I am using LOGFILE directives like this. # Virtual host logfiles to analyse, and their respective URLs LOGFILE /var/log/httpd/example.com-access_log http://www.example.com LOGFILE /var/log/httpd/sample.com-access_log http://www.sample.com LOGFILE /var/log/httpd/mydomain.com-access_log http://www.mydomain.com I am creating a Directory report which shows the transfer of each virtual host, like this: Mbytes: directory ---: - 2.136: http:// 0.798: http://www.mydomain.com/ 0.762: http://www.example.com/ 0.575: http://www.sample.com/ So far all marvellous and wonderful. :-) I guess I need a script to create the LOGFILE statements. Does Analog have a way of embedding another file in a configuration file? If so I could generate the LOGFILE statements into a separate file using a Perl script and then not have to touch the rest of the configuration file. Is this possible? Any advice much appreciated. [analog-help] Virtual hosts and directory reports
Hi, I currently log all of my virtual hosts to a single logfile using "%v", which works fine and the virtual host reports are generated by Analog. However, the directory reports don't differentitate between vhosts and so are a bit confusing. If I was using seperate logfiles per host I could use the second parameter to LOGFILE and SUBDIR http://* to make them "host dependant", as it were. So, the quick question is (and I'm sure it's in the docs, but I just can't see it) - how do I do this kind of thing with a single logfile? I'm assuming that Analog is using the s-ip field for the VHost report if cs-host isn't available. This isn't usually an issue with IIS because it does create separate log files for each virtual host, so you don't need to identify the vhost on each line. If you use 2 different names for a single virtual host, and want to see which name is being used, you might have a problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. If you do something like this (below), and then look at the Directory report, it should give you the sort of comparative numbers that you were expecting to find in the VHost report. (The second parameter to the LOGFILE commands is simply preprended to every request, so that when Analog does the Directory report, it see the 4 server names as top level directories) LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc3\ex* www.poco.org LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc4\ex* sportsflight.com LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc5\ex* w3svc5 LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc6\ex* www.uslex.net Aengus This is the analog-help mailing list. Aengus, I am using the W3C Extended format (with all options checked), and I have included the names of the virtual domains in the logfile, like this: LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc3\ex* http://www.%v.poco.org LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc4\ex* http://sportsflight.com LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc5\ex* LOGFILE c:\winnt.sbs\system32\LogFiles\W3svc6\ex* http://www.%v.uslex.net I did not include the virtual domain in #3 above because I am not sure what domain the log file relates to - as I collect more data, it will become apparent. The format of the domain name is different in #2 above as a test to see if formatting of that entry was my problem - so far as I can tell it was not. [analog-help] Virtual Hosts
I host several websites on a WinNT 4.0 (SP4) server running IIS v5.0. I have configured analog to give me virtual hosts reports using the VHOST ON command. Analog reports ALL activity for ALL hosts by the static IP of the host machine and not by the individual virtual hosts. This is this output that I get: Listing virtual hosts, sorted by the amount of traffic. reqs: %bytes: virtual host : --: 11: 100%: 209.196.125.61 I would like to get a report of activity for each domain that I host. I have read the FAQ.RAB[EMAIL PROTECTED]

[analog-help] Virtual Hosts Report on multiple sub-domains in a single log file(fwd)
Hi-- I'm running analog4.13 on Linux I want to change my apache access_log to include the virtual hostname, because we have multiple sub-domains that I want to log into a single log file. When I tried to set up analog to read from a sample log with the virtual host, it treats all lines as corrupt. (i do not get any error messages on the command line- just an empty report with "Successful requests: 0 \n Corrupt logfile lines: 6" ) I did the following in my analog config file: LOGFORMAT (%S %u %j [%d/%M/%Y:%h:%n:%j] "%j%w%r%wHTTP%j" %c %b "%f" "%B" %v) LOGFILE /usr/local/src/analog-4.13/tmp2.log %v (I also tried "LOGFILE /usr/local/src/analog-4.13/tmp2.log %v.domain.com", and other formats, cause it is unclear to me what this actually does) An entry in tmp2.log looks like: 63.14.193.62 -741136 - [08/Nov/2000:23:59:49 -0500] "GET /index.html HTTP/1.1" 200 15803 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; )" subdomain1.domain.com When I remove the %v from LOGFORMAT, LOGFILE, and take the hostname out of my log entries, the reports come out ok (but obviously with an empty virtual host report). Can figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any thoughts? Thanks- Liza This is the analog-help mailing list. You probably have to set floors to see any results. If there's only 130 lines in the logfile, there probably aren't enough to meet the minimums. Try things like REQFLOOR 1r, TIMEFLOOR 1r, etc. HTH, Jeremy Wadsack Wadsack-Allen Digital Group Abhijeet Tale wrote: > Hi again, > ok this the format of my logfile.. > > 202.12.12.114 mail.xyz.com - [06/Mar/2000:11:41:11 +0530] "GET >/da.e?l=admin&f=66&m=Inbox HTTP/1.0" 200 4197 >"http://mail.xyz.com/lm.e?l=admin&f=66&m=Inbox&s=N" "Mozilla/4.5 [en] (X11; I; Linux >2.0.29 i686)" > > 202.23.12.138 mail.lmn.org - [06/Mar/2000:11:47:22 +0530] "GET >/lm.e?l=misha&f=56&m=Inbox&s=Dd&a=R HTTP/1.1" 200 13432 >"http://mail.lmn.org/lm.e?l=mish&f=56&m=Inbox&s=Dd&a=R" "Moz > illa/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98)" > > Foll are the entries in the analog.cfg.. > > APACHELOGFORMAT (%h %v %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\") > LOGFILE /myfolder/access_log http://mail.xyz.com > SUBDIR http://*/* > VHOSTINCLUDE http://mail.xyz.com > > when I run analog as analog +q +Otmp.html I get the foll warnings, > > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty time reports > (For help on all errors and warnings, see docs/errors.html) > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Request Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Failure Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty File Type Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Directory Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Host Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Referrer Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Virtual Host Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty User Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Browser Summary > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty File Size Report > ./analog: Warning R: Turning off empty Status Code Report > > and tmp.html says > Successful requests: 0 > Unwanted logfile entries: 130 > > Actually there are 130 lines in the log file. > What exactly is wrong? please help. > > Regards > Abhijeet Tale > [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is the analog-help mailing list. You can't do it with that log format. There isn't any way to tell which log entry goes with which server. You need to change your Apache configuration to log the virtual domain, try: LogFormat "%h %v %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"" in Apache and: APACHELOGFORMAT (%h %v %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\") in Analog. [analog-help] Virtual hosts.
Hi all, This I guess is a newbie questions, but would like some pointers for this. I am running Analog4.0 on Linux(slakware). I have many virtual hosts on one server. we log the different domains into a single log file. But I want Analog to report only one Virtual host that I specify.I have added this in the analog.cfg file LOGFILE access_log http://mail.xyz.com SUBDIR http://*/* VHOSTINCLUDE http://mail.xyz.co.in The log file is in the foll. format: LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"" combined So I guess theres no need to include a LOGFORMAT option in the cfg file. When I run Analog with the +q option I get the following output, Warning M: Logfile access_log contains lines with no virtual hosts, which are being filtered and then it says 'turning off empty --- reports' when I see the output file the Analog reports for all the domains but doesnt show the names, only adds the prefex as www.xyz.com, but doesnt report only for www.xyz.com which is actually required. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Abhijeet Tale Trikon Electronics Pvt. Ltd. [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[analog-help] Virtual hosts w/ analog
I have analog working the way I need it to for one domain that I host. What I need to know now is how do I also run analog for several other log files that I have for other domains. I assume that I must do something with /etc/analog.cfg? That is where I configured analog to obtain the location for the log files that it is working with now. Some instructions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Happy and Prosperous New Year to all. Mark [EMAIL PROTECTED] winmail.dat

Space the cron entries a few minutes apart, one for each domain or log file you want. Here is sample cron entry that will create the analog output for somedomain at 1:00 AM everyday. The necessary variables are passed as arguments from the command line. These override the same settings in the analog.cfg file thereby eliminating the need to edit that file. What are you trying to do? From your description, it sounds as if everything's working correctly as far as I can tell. If you're trying to create a report from each config file, you need to run analog several times, once for each config file. -- Stephen Turner[EMAIL PROTECTED]http://www.statslab.cam.ac.uk/~sret1/ Statistical Laboratory, 16 Mill Lane, Cambridge CB2 1SB, England "Due to the conflict in Kosovo, we will not be showing the movie Wag the Dog. Yes they did...so after reading your email I went back and removed the LOGFILE commands. So now all the "sub-host" config files just contain the following; ie: forager.cfg LOGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/v_hosts/forager/logs/forager_access_log OUTFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/v_hosts/forager/htdocs/analog3.11/index.html HOSTNAME forager.com HOSTURL http://www.forager.com/ The main config file "analog.cfg" has the following; LOGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/logs/access_log OUTFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/analog3.11/index.html HOSTNAME d2earth.com HOSTURL http://www.d2earth.com/ WARNINGS OFF CONFIGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/analog3.11/forager.cfg CONFIGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/analog3.11/turtle.cfg CONFIGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/analog3.11/okanagan.cfg followed by all the various LOGFILE commands. Re: [analog-help] virtual hosts - separate logs
I have similiar server configuration, however, I resolved this issue by just using a different paramater when calling analog from the web interface. Basically, I have a selection box which allows me to pick which set of server logs to analyze. I've also added a selection to do all of them at once. This way I don't have multiple configuration files, etc. If any of the sites are restricted, I can password prompt before running/accessing the area... Works well and only required configuring analog once. [analog-help] virtual hosts - separate logs
Hi folks; Analog 3.11 BSD O/S 3.1 Apache (name based hosting) Combined Log Format After reading the FAQ's and the mail list archives I managed to solve most of my problems except the following... I have several "sub_hosts" that each generate their own log files, and I have created individual "config" files for each. In my "analog.cfg" file I am using the following to call in the respective config file; CONFIGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/analog3.11/forager.cfg The first four lines in "forager.cfg" are below; LOGFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/v_hosts/forager/logs/forager_access_log OUTFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/v_hosts/forager/htdocs/analog3.11/stats.html HOSTNAME forager.com HOSTURL http://www.forager.com/ Yet when I run Analog from the command line I get the following error; "Fatal error: failed to open output file /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/v_hosts/forager/htdocs/analog3.11/stats.html for writing: exiting" If I change the file path above to; OUTFILE /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/analog3.11/stats.html It works just fine :-/ Why can I not have it write to what is really a "sub-directory" of my domain? I have tried playing with the file perms...but that does not make seem to make any difference to Analog. Agreed, we run analog about twenty times a night on our 25 million lines of logfiles and the total is done in less than an hour. I don't beleive this... what machine are you using? If it's not 286... The only reason I can see is that you're loosing too much time with DNS look-ups. So I'd suggest you to run Analog (with output into /dev/null or something like that) every night (or 3 times a day, whatever's best for your case...) just to update your DNSCACHE file... that should help... Correct? I ran into the same problem and you will have to run it 7 times if you want detailed reports on each one. But in my case it takes 2 hours to process the log files for each virtual host, so it was impractical to do that for all my customers. It would simply take too much time. If all you need is simple reports like number of total hits and the top requested URLs, you can configure analog to produce just the vhost and requests reports. I had analog dump the output in COMPUTER format. Then I wrote a parsing script to separate the vhosts summary info and their requests into separate files. _/_/_/ Peter Chow Chief Technical Advisor _/_/_/ interQ Corporation - System Division _/_/_/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] Shibuya Infoss Tower 10F _/_/_/ (tel)+81-3-5456-2555 20-1 Sakuragaokacho, Shibuya-ku _/_/_/ (fax)+81-3-5456-2556 Tokyo, Japan _/_/_/ http://www.interq.ad.jp 150-0031 This is the analog-help mailing list. Is there a way to produce a report on each separate host? The only way I can think to do this is to exclude all but one host and run the report and do this 7 times. Is this the right way to do it? I guess to do this is to set up 7 timed jobs to run each with different out files and config files. Correct? Thanks for keeping me on the right path. You can get that to work with several different configuration files and only one combined log file. You will need to define a custom log file format that includes the virtual server name and use the VHOSTINCLUDE and VHOSTEXCLUDE commands to select the items you want in each report. Mitch, > There is a virtualhost configuration directive in the Analog documentation > that I read, I can't remember exactly where it was though.. It does what you > need I believe.. Check the online documentation.. Good luck! I've seen the VHOSTINCLUDE and the VHOSTEXCLUDE options, but I don't know where to put them or if they work. I've put them in the /etc/analog.conf as VHOSTINCLUDE host or VHOSTEXCLUDE host and I got the same results. I also tried to put them in the request of the page as a ?VHOSTINCLUDE=ON and so on, but no different result shows up. I don't know if I'm going very misguided here... Thanks for your help, -- p. [analog-help] virtual hosts
Hi! I posted this message some time ago in the Debian/Linux mailing list, but I got no response. So now I'm asking here which is probably the right place to get an answer. Thanks in advance for your help, From: Pere Camps <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Debian User Lists <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: analog and virtual hosts Hi! Does anybody know a straightforward way to have stats for web access for my different virtual hosts without having to have each host in its own log file? I'm now logging the hits with this format: LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\" %T %v" And an example: nodoiuna.lsi.upc.es - - [30/Dec/1998:16:02:34 +0100] "GET /curs99.html HTTP/1.0" 200 7401 "http://ceo.upc.es/" "Mozilla/3.0Gold (X11; I; SunOS 5.5.1 sun4u)" 0 ceo.upc.es Where ceo.upc.es is the virtual host. I now have 7 virtual hosts residing on my system. All of them are very low resource hungry. TIA! -- p. This is the analog-help mailing list.
