[android-developers] Re: dialog is getting dismissed when I am flipping the device

2009-05-16 Thread jose toledo
I'm trying to use a managed dialog from inside a tab in a TabActivity and it
is not behaving as I expected. The dialog is still being killed when I flip
the screen. If I create the dialog from the TabActivity instead of its child
(using getParent().showDialog() ) it is handled correctly.

Is there an easy way to work around this other than just creating all
dialogs from the parent activity?

[android-developers] Re: Errors on Windows 7

2009-05-16 Thread Al Sutton

Have you tried connecting an Android 'phone and using adb?

I've never been able to get it adb to a device working on Vista, and despite
moving from SP1 to SP2 RC, re-installing the driver, and everything else all I
ever get is "The device cannot start (Code 10)" in device manager, so I'd be
interested to know if the driver works on Win 7.

[android-developers] Indication bar is just closed upon tapping the downloading item.

2009-05-16 Thread ritter.han

  Hi all,

  The question of mine is about the behavior of indication bar.

  When you download some files in the browser,
  you can see the indication bar is showing downloading icons.
  When I tap the downloading icon after pulling down the indication
bar,
  it's just closed and nothing happens.

  I expect to be brought to Downloads screen of Browser
  'cause I'd started to download it in the Browser.
  But just Home screen is shown.

  Is this a correct behavior of OS now.?
  Or is this a sort of defect.?

  Please confirm this.

  Thank you.
  Shwan

[android-developers] Re: AppWidget issues

2009-05-16 Thread guruk

Thanks, thats a real HELP,
- Roman Guy.. I like your Info, but please its not enough to know that
a bug,
would be great you all help us with Turnarounds.

Now Jeff, one Question, i did not implemented you code right now.
But does this remove still the Problem, that the broadcasts are still
firing also when there are all widgets from the homescreen deleted?

I just look at the api widget demo in 1.5
I deleted all widgets from the screen, but the broadcast still fires,
because
there are still widget listed in the list in the "appWidgetIds" Area

onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager,
int[] appWidgetIds)

Also where there is no on my screen

Any help for that, to reorganize the internal counter or carbage
collector?

Greets
Chris

[android-developers] Re: startActivity from subclass - strange problem

2009-05-16 Thread mscwd01

This problem is baffling me, I cannot work out why a call to
startActivity() from the subclass of the running Activity causes this
error. If I call startActivity() from the Activity itself, not the
subclass of the Activity, it works fine.

Any ideas? I've spent too long on this problem now ;)

[android-developers] Unable to receive intent on sending SMS

2009-05-16 Thread amer

I want to receive an intent describing the status whether SMS sent or
failed. I have following code to send SMS:

/**
 * MainActivity is my activity class, MessageAlertReceiver is a
broadcast Receiver registered through manifest
 */
Intent intent = new Intent(MainActivity.this,
org.me.androidtest.MessageAlertReceiver.class);
PendingIntent sentntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast
(MainActivity.this, 0, intent, 0);
SmsManager manager = SmsManager.getDefault();
manager.sendTextMessage("5556", null, "Android SMS Test", sentIntent,
null);

MessageAlertReceiver class is as follows:

public class MessageAlertReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver{

@Override
public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) {
Log.i("MessageAlertReceiver","message recieved");
Toast.makeText(arg0, "I am message",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}

}

I registered this receiver in Manifest file as shown below:

Message is successfully sent and received on emulator "5556" but no
intent is received to BroadcastReceiver.
Any help

[android-developers] Re: Animation Xml Resource and CycleInterpolator tag: FAIL

2009-05-16 Thread TjerkW

Euhm.. Then tell me why this class exists:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/animation/CycleInterpolator.html

An i just follow the documentation for specifying interpolators:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/available-resources.html#animation

By the way, i also checked this site:
http://developerlife.com/tutorials/?p=343

He speciffies interpolators with this xml attribute:
 android:interpolator="@android:anim/accelerate_interpolator"

However when searching the internet is also see the following naming:
@android:anim/ease_in_interpolator

Are the ease_in ease_out just other names for the accelerate and
decelerate interpolators?
Or is this a refactoring done in android 1.5?

By the way.. i want to use the linear interpolator in my xml like
this:
android:interpolator="@android:anim/linear_interpolator"

But then i get an error: linear_interpolator is not public.. so
cannot use it.

So please help me out

[android-developers] Re: AppWidget issues

2009-05-16 Thread guruk

thanks

but what is this "extras.getInt" when I copy your code "extras" is
not defined

maybe you have a short workaround for that:

@Override
public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager
appWidgetManager,
int[] appWidgetIds) {
   //bellow I just get my data, i dont know how to get
them in UpdateService
appWidgetIds2=appWidgetIds.clone();
appWidgetManager2=appWidgetManager;
context2=context;

   context.startService(new Intent(context,
UpdateService.class));
}

static void updateAppWidget(Context context, AppWidgetManager
appWidgetManager,
int appWidgetId, String titlePrefix) {
//here is usualy my Update Code

}

@Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
final String action = intent.getAction();
if (AppWidgetManager.ACTION_APPWIDGET_DELETED.equals(action)) {
final int appWidgetId = extras.getInt
(AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID,
AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID);
if (appWidgetId != AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) {
this.onDeleted(context, new int[] { appWidgetId });
}
} else {
super.onReceive(context, intent);
}
}

public static class UpdateService extends Service {
@Override
public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) {
final int N = appWidgetIds2.length;
for (int i = 0; i < N; i++) {
appWidgetId = appWidgetIds2[i];
String titlePrefix = setwidgetuser.loadTitlePref
(context2,appWidgetId);
updateAppWidget(context2, appWidgetManager2,
appWidgetId,
titlePrefix);
}
Log.d("MYDAY-WIDGET", "Updates DONE---");
}

[android-developers] Re: AppWidget issues

2009-05-16 Thread guruk

ok.. i am  a bit further (extras = Bundle extras = intent.getExtras
();) :)

but as i understood, So i just can handle when a widget come deleted.
But that doesnt change anything in the fact, that the internal
int[] appWidgetIds
still list them all. Could I delete the deleted Widget from that List
Or do I have now my own extra table with the active installed
Widgets??

-- to keep it simple: How can i get a "functional" List of the active
(on Homescreen)
installed Widgets from my App.??

Thanks

[android-developers] How to make second DDMS work on the PC which already running a DDMS?

2009-05-16 Thread gan

Hi:

Not sure if anyone has same problem:

When one person debugging android application on a PC,
emulator-5554 <===>  DDMS A <===>  Eclipse A
can communicate well.

When the second person want to debug application on another emulator
on the same PC
emulator-5556 <===> DDMS B <> Eclipse B

The DDMS B can't communicate to emulator-5556 rightly.
Seems emulator-5554 and emulator-5556 both controlled by DDMS A

How to resolve this problem?

Thanks

[android-developers] Showing travel path which will mach the real road on map.

2009-05-16 Thread jagtap.jj

 In the application gps points(lat, lon) are collected while device is
moving.
I am showing them as travel path on map with overlays.

" Now the problem is when showing the path between the two points
which are at two road cross, it does not show path exactly on road, if
the distance between two point is large even inaccurate path comes,
not exactly comes on real road."
  What is solution for this since navigation package "googlenav" has
been deprecated since sdk .9. Which might have been solution for this.

 Is there any way to overcome this issue. Showing travel path which
will mach the real road on map.

Thank you

Try getDeviceId() in TelephonyManager:

pacImageV.setBackgroundResource(R.anim.pacanim);
pacManCharAnim = (AnimationDrawable) pacImageV.getBackground();

Logcat shows a null pointer exception for the
pacImageV.setBackgroundResource(R.anim.pacanim) line.
Perhaps I am following the example incorrectly. I am using the 1.5
sdk. Can anyone assist with this?

[android-developers] Re: startActivity from subclass - strange problem

2009-05-16 Thread Dianne Hackborn
How can I help you if I have no idea what your code is doing? It might help
to see the lines of the code in the exception. I certainly can't see how
this has anything to do with being in a subclass -- like I said, you are
calling this on a Context that isn't initialized, such as what would happen
if you call on an Activity before its onCreate() is called.

Hey!

Thank you very much for sharing this great code!
It helped me a lot!

But I have on problem! I have created a ruby on rails webapp where I
want to upload my image.
On the website I can upload a image without a problem but when I want
to upload the image with Android, the image cannot be uploaded for one
reasen (but I don't know which)!
I make a post request on the server (it passes all the right
paramaters en the uploaded_data from the photo) but it won't save my
photo in the database or upload it on my website..

Do i have to do something special with the website so I can upload an
image from android to my website (server)?

Thank you,

[android-developers] AppWidgets: Dynamic value for updatePeriodMillis?

2009-05-16 Thread Michael Elsdörfer

The developer blog suggests that one might ask the user for a custom
widget update interval:

"Consider updating as infrequently as possible, or letting your users
pick a custom update frequency. "
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/04/introducing-home-screen-widgets-and.html

It's not quite clear to me how one would do so. The
android:updatePeriodMillis attribute is statically defined the the xml
resource, and can't be changed, no?

And related, what about minHeight and minWidth? Is it possible to let
the use choose a size during configuration? From what I understand,
the configuration dialog is only called once the widget views have
already been requested once, so I am guessing not?

[android-developers] Re: AppWidgets: Dynamic value for updatePeriodMillis?

2009-05-16 Thread Tom Gibara
Letting the user select a frequency can be done by not specifying
an updatePeriodMillis for the widget, but instead registering a broadcast
receiver with the AlarmManager that pushes updates through the
AppWidgetManager.
It's not possible to change the size of a widget from that defined in its
xml info file. The only option here is to offer the user multiple widgets of
differing sizes.

Tom.

In the first instance, its because the user chose to add a widget, but then
cancelled its configuration. To partially overcome this problem, you can
keep a list of all the widgets you know have been configured and not deleted
(or something functionally equivalent), and then ignore updates for widgets
not on that list.

In the second instance, widgets that have been removed by the user continue
to be supplied until a new widget from the same provider is added. There's
no way of detecting that this is occurring - there's no workaround*, mainly
because the framework is doing its job and is properly insulating the widget
provider from the widget host.

*One utterly evil workaround that just entered my head as I typed that
sentence could be to include an ImageView with a source that pointed back to
a content provider in your application. Absence of a requests to the content
provider while the phone is powered could be used to infer that the widget
is phantom. This cure is almost certainly worse than the disease.

[android-developers] Re: Frame-by-frame animation issue

2009-05-16 Thread steve_macleod

OK, I have been looking into this some more, and it seems that the
reference to my ImageView is null.
My code is organised as follows:

Activity onCreate sets an onClick event
when the onClick event is activated, setContentView(layout_01) is
executed (this is the xml file which contains the ImageView) - as
part of this xml file, a class which extends SurfaceView is inflated.
onCreate of this SurfaceView creates a thread (which is in inner
class) - that thread attempts to use the ImageView via findViewById,
which returns null.

Am I out-of-scope in attempting to reference the ImageView like this?
If so, how should I reference it?

Thanks,

[android-developers] Re: Animation Xml Resource and CycleInterpolator tag: FAIL

2009-05-16 Thread Romain Guy

Btw, in the meantime you can set any interpolator you want using Java
code. I know it's not as nice as XML, but it helps. Also, you can
create your own linear_interpolator.xml in your application's res/anim
directory. You can copy this file:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/frameworks/base.git;a=blob;f=core/res/res/anim/linear_interpolator.xml;h=70bbeccad52d561de8502df1b1e0ae001d27935c;hb=master

[android-developers] LogCat problem with two emulators open

2009-05-16 Thread Ricardo

Hi all,

I´ve created two AVD´s to test my application.

So I have two emulators running in port 5554 and 5556.

But the LogCat view shows the messages from both emulators. Even if
you select just the process you desire in the Devices View, the LogCat
still shows both messages..

is it a bug ?

thank you

[android-developers] Re: problem when debugging android application with eclipse

2009-05-16 Thread Raphael

Are you talking about the DDMS perspective or the standalone DDMS?

If you use eclipse, do not use the standalone DDMS program, use the
DDMS perspective from within Eclipse.
If you do that you do not need to manually select the program in the
DDMS process list, the Eclipse plugin can automatically stop at
breakpoints that you set in Eclipse. Just make sure you start your
session using one of the Run > Debug option (if you select Run > Run,
it won't stop on breakpoints.)

[android-developers] Question regarding detecting view for touch event.

2009-05-16 Thread Lewis

Hi folks.

I have two adjacent imagebuttons, I assign a custom OnTouchListener()
to both of them. When a touch event occurs the OnTouchListener returns
the view on which the touch event took place. My problem is that when
a user touches one imagebutton then moves to another imagebutton, the
OnTouchListener still returns the View where the ACTION_DOWN event
took place. Anyone know how to return the view of the currently
touched item?

[android-developers] Widgets - use (any) subclassed Views?

2009-05-16 Thread JP

I've started building a Widget for an app that is mostly map centric,
i.e. consists of a screen-filling subclassed MapView, Overlay and so
forth. The relevant information that is displayed by the map overlay
actually fits into a Widget that uses one of the standard sizes, so it
would make sense to use the subclassed MapView and all it entails
inside the Widget (in the spirit of polymorphism).
Looking at Google's sample code, it seems the Views that can be
displayed in Widgets are limited to just a few Views (I've seen
TextView and ImageView)? I suppose I could live with that (although it
entails duplication), but the real thing would be using the subclassed
MapView. I tried that out, but when loading the Widget, I get a class
not found exception. Is there a way to use a subclassed View in a
Widget?

Below the sanitized layout and the LogCat dump:

android:layout_width="fill_parent"

(the view under the down event remains the target for the remainder of the
motion). You might be able to do something with some custom dispatching
code in the layout containing them, but exactly what you do will depend a
lot on the behavior you want (do you want the other image view to become
pressed when the user drags over to it? just to be able to find out where
the release happened but leave the original one presssed? something else?)

[android-developers] Re: NullPointerException : String imageFileName = myFile.imageFileName.toString(); when imageFileName is null

2009-05-16 Thread Dianne Hackborn
Seriously, this never ever worked:

String imageFileName;
String theString = imageFileName.toString().

Calling toString() on a null object has always and will always result in a
NullPointerException.

[android-developers] Re: Frame-by-frame animation issue

2009-05-16 Thread Dianne Hackborn
You probably shouldn't be doing this at all. Certainly, you shouldn't be
touching the view hierarchy from another thread. I would expect what you
are saying to actually work (and that you would get much more subtle
errors), but it's hard to say without seeing the code and considering that
there is a thread there running independently of the view hierarchy it is
touching.

[android-developers] Re: Widgets - use (any) subclassed Views?

2009-05-16 Thread Jeff Sharkey

Right, there is a specific list of framework views that can be used
when building widgets:

http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/a5247467151f5e3a

And subclasses of those views aren't allowed, since you could include
any arbitrary code in your subclass. (Because the widget's view tree
lives in Launcher, the layout and drawing code is executed by the
Launcher process.)

Also, since Launcher doesn't request the Maps library in its manifest,
it wouldn't know how to inflate a MapView.

[android-developers] Suggestion for 1.5 Error message regarding SD Card

2009-05-16 Thread RodgerWilko!

Hi,

I've just spent a long time trying to figure out why my SD card has
not been mounting in the new 1.5 SDK emulator.

The cause was that I made a setting when I was using the 1.1 SDK in
the project debug startup to have the -sdcard option with the emulator
which over wrote the 1.5 AVD Settings.

Anyway, the end result was this error (as I had removed the old SD
card image)

"[2009-05-17 12:33:21 - Emulator] emulator: WARNING: ignoring non-
existing SD Card image"

My suggestion is to add the path that the emulator is searching for
the SD Card image as if this was shown it would be A LOT easier to
debug! I.E. why is it looking there?? oh that old setting, as apposed
to trying a million other paths.

There's my 5 cents :)

RodgerWilko!

[android-developers] Re: Trouble migrating apps to 1.5

2009-05-16 Thread ndatta

I got the same "emulator: ERROR: the user data image is used by
another emulator. aborting" message, albeit in a different context. I
had an emulator instance running, and then hibernated my Win XP
laptop. When I rebooted next, the laptop hung while restoring the
hibernated image. So I had to force a fresh reboot with the
hibernation data deleted. Then I tried to create and run a new Android
project in Eclipse when I got that error message.

To fix the problem, I just deleted the files %userprofile%\.android\avd
\\cache.img.lock\pid and %userprofile%\.android\avd
\\userdata-qemu.img.lock\pid and tried running the project
again. This time it worked normally without any errors.

HTH.

[android-developers] Help: View Not Shown After TableLayout

2009-05-16 Thread efan

I need show some text description after a TableLayout but it is not
shown.

Layout xml file like this (the complete code is here:
http://code.google.com/p/zz-doctor/source/browse/trunk/ZZ/res/layout/rx_recipe_detail.xml):

...

 ...

It works fine when the rxFormulaDesc View is before the TableLayout.
But requirements want the TableLayout shown first. It just does not
shown up when the rxFormulaDesc View is put after the TableLayout. No
error message in either screen or log. Same Java code.

The TableLayout itself shows up fine - no matter hard-coded content or
dynamic content, and any view before it also shows fine.

I tried other type of View after the TableLayout, same result.

Thanks for your attention!

[android-developers] Re: Webview Broken in 1.5 SDK?

2009-05-16 Thread superjet

I'm running into the same problem, but when I make this change
(webview to webkit) I get a compile error saying it cannot be
resolved. Ctrl-Shift-O doesnt bring in any new imports, so I'm at a
loss as to how to get the compiler to recognize this.

Can you shine some light?

Many thanks. SJ

[android-developers] Opening audio output failed

2009-05-16 Thread David

Hello Group,

I'm working on Linux (Ubuntu if it matters, latest kernel).
When I start the emulator I get the following message (without the
quotes).
"emulator: warning: opening audio output failed"

I am unable to play any sound on my emulator - though doing so, does
NOT cause the emulator to crash or do anything else destructive.

My sound output device is 'ALSA' - and it is otherwise working
flawlessly.

This is all on my personal Toshiba laptop.
The same occurres at my school laboratories using what I believe to be
Ubuntu with ALSA as well.

Can this be solved?
David

[android-developers] ListView + SimpleAdaptor + ImageView => very slow

2009-05-16 Thread OTB

Hi,
I have developed a ListActivity where each row of the list contain a
drawable (downloaded from an url, cached locally and in memory). So, I
use a custom SimpleAdaptor to fill the list.

My problem is that the list is very slow.
It seems like the component try to reuses a small number of row to
print the list
(Sometimes a picture contain a previous pictures before the real one)

I would like to know how to speed-up my application.
Is it possible to increase the number of rows used internally by the
list to draw its content ?
Do you have other advice ?

Thanks,
Erwan

I'm in the same boat here, I can get the phone mounted as a drive but
not as a device to test my

the sdk perhaps it's G1 only.

If anyone manages to get an htc magic listed under 'adb devices' plz
let me know.
I'm Vista 64 bit and was tying using android-sdk-
windows-1.5_r1.usb_driver/amd64
and yes I've put a nice green tick next to USB Debugging in my
settings on the phone under
development, and I've tried mounting and not mounting.

Cheers folks.

[android-developers] ( problem for experts ) update/refresh list problem

2009-05-16 Thread Adem KARAKOLLU
I have two cursor, one of them from contact content provider, other one from
database. id fields are sycnhorinzed.i want to show them in same column with
two row in list.
i m think that i have to use simpleCursorAdapter, because arrayadapter and
other adapters can not show two cursor in a list.
simpleCursorAdapter=new
SimpleCursorAdapter(this,R.layout.row,matrixCursor,new
String[]{matrixCursor.getColumnName(1),matrixCursor.getColumnName(2)},new
int[]{R.id.TextView01,R.id.TextView02});
my problem is "simpleCursorAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();" is not working.
 protected void onResume() {

 cursor2.requery();
 cursor3=myDbAdapter.getAll();
 System.out.println("ak_:Onresumed");
 simpleCursorAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();

so my list is not refresing/updating altough all cursors all results are
updating.
Is there any idea?

[android-developers] How to obtain bitmap from data in onPreviewFrame method of previewCallback and display on surface using canvas

2009-05-16 Thread loril...@gmail.com

Hi there,

I need to capture an image from camera and display on surfaceview for
my project. I am trying to obtain bitmap from data in onPreviewFrame
method of previewCallback and display on surface using canvas.

Can someone please help me?

Following steps were done:

- created a Preview class extending SurfaceView and implementing
SurfaceHolder.Callback set it as the content of activity.

- installed a SurfaceHolder.Callback in my Preview to get notified
when the underlying surface is created and destroyed.
mHolder = getHolder();
mHolder.addCallback(this);
//mHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS);

- started a thread in surfaceCreated method described as follows:

public void run() {
// Open the Camera
camera = Camera.open();

if (camera != null) {
 try {

camera.setPreviewDisplay(mHolder);
 } catch (IOException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated
catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}

camera.startPreview();
ImageCaptureCallback iccb = new
ImageCaptureCallback ();
camera.setPreviewCallback(iccb);
}

--

public class ImageCaptureCallback implements PreviewCallback {

public void onPreviewFrame(byte[] data, Camera camera) {
   //ToDo
}

Please help. I can explain my problem in detail if anybody wish to
solve it

[android-developers] aidl remote service call namespace question

2009-05-16 Thread dev_rob

Hi android developers,

I'm new to the great android platform, trying to get into RPC with
aidl and services.

I didn't find a sufficient answer to my problem in any posts, if there
already is one, please excuse and point me to it, thanks.

I made 2 projects.

project 1 hast an activity that binds to a service from project 2 on a
button click (all just for testing).

1. issue:

How can I make project 1 know (import) my TestInterface (from
TestInterface.aidl out of project 2) for usage in:

"TestInterface mService = (TestInterface)
TestInterface.Stub.asInterface(service);"

without adding project 2 to the build path, because if I'd have an
installed service without the project code, I couldn't do it this way,
too...??
I read in one thread that TestInterface.aidl should just be added to
project 1, too, but if I do this, in DDMS enforceInterface() complains
and seems to just see/use the interface from project 1 and it doesn't
work.

2. issue:

(here i add project 2 to project 1's build path, which i still think
is not how it should work)

If i bind to a system service, i can simply do something like

bindService(new Intent(com.android.A_SERVICE);

but if i have my own service in project 2, something like

bindService(new Intent(com.project2.A_SERVICE);

does not work (of course, service 2 is installed on the emulator at
that point, i provide an intent-filter an set the "android:exported"-
attribute to true). the error i get is:

"05-16 15:06:06.384: ERROR/dalvikvm(820): Could not find method
de.roberlin.new_rpc.TestInterface$Stub.asInterface, referenced from
method de.roberlin.new_rpc.New_RPC_Client$2.onServiceConnected
"

this error makes really no sense to me, any suggestions?

btw: i ran "adb shell dumpsys package" and my Service is registered:

"Service Resolver Table:
...
Non-Data Actions:
  ...
  de.roberlin.new_rpc.action.NEW_RPC:
436578f0 de.roberlin.new_rpc/.TestStringService"

The code from both projects can be reviewed at http://pastebin.com/f4bd0bc10

I hope my points (special concern lies on the error message..) are not
to nooby.

I'd really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!

[android-developers] Re: BUGS ? something strange about class SQLiteQueryBuilder

2009-05-16 Thread adadcalledrichard

I have just found the same issue (issue #2 in the above post), but
maybe I can add some more insight.

If I include this code in my ContentProvideer query method:

SQLiteQueryBuilder qb = new SQLiteQueryBuilder();

String _query = qb.buildQuery(projection, selection,
selectionArgs, groupBy, null, orderBy, null);
Log.d(TAG,"Query="+_query);

Cursor c = qb.query(mDb, projection, selection, selectionArgs,
groupBy, null, orderBy);

the string returned from qb.buildQuery is correct, but the actual SQL
generated internally by qb.query has an extraneous additional ")" at
the end of the where clause, and therefore throws an exception.

But, if I simply comment out the qb.buildQuery statement above (and
the Log.d call as well), the qb.query call works perfectly. It seems
the qb.buildQuery call is leaving state in the SQLiteQueryBuilder
object that is not reset when the qb.query method is called. I
spotted the same situation in the code originally posted at the start
of this email thread.

My first post here, so I hope it helps!

[android-developers] How to handle tall dialogs

2009-05-16 Thread Thomas

Hi group.

I have a standard dialog with a headline, a label, a text field,
another label and a DatePicker. They are laid out using a vertical
LinearLayout. When the user slides the keyboard open, the dialog is
rotated. Now, the dialog does no longer fit on the screen, it is to
tall. ...DatePicker has some height... :-)

I wonder what is the preferred way to handle this. I need to do
something, as the DatePicker is not fully visiable. One solution
surely is to put the LinearLayout inside a ScrollView. Do you have
further suggestions?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards
Thomas

[android-developers] Re: How to handle tall dialogs

2009-05-16 Thread Marco Nelissen

You could try using a different layout for landscape mode, where instead of:

label
textfield
label
datepicker

you make it:

label  textfield
label  datepicker

Would that work for your particular layout?

[android-developers] Re: Help: View Not Shown After TableLayout

Your TableLayout has height=fill_parent, it's therefore as tall as its
parent, so there's no more room left on screen to show the TextView.

It's probably just that the file you're trying to play is not
supported, nothing to do with your code.

[android-developers] Re: Install Android on Windows XP

2009-05-16 Thread Raphael

The official install instructions are here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r1/installing.html

Please describe what you did and what doesn't work as expected.
Installing under XP is generally straightforward:

- Check this is not an XP 64-bit (does that even exist?)
- Install Eclipse for Java developers (cf eclipse.org)
- Install SDK 1.5_r1 from http://d.android.com and unzip in some dir
- In Eclipse install the ADT plugin (cf installing page above)
- Follow instructions on giving the path to your SDK

What fails?

[android-developers] Re: Use android.graphics

2009-05-16 Thread Raphael

Create a custom view, override onDraw and draw on the canvas.

Look at the LunarLander sample for an example of custom view.

[android-developers] Re: Install Android on Windows XP

2009-05-16 Thread Raphael

If you install via an ADT zip file, make sure you get the latest (0.9.1).

Rather than using the zip file, use the update size in Eclipse to
automatically get the latest version
(https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/). Remember that for most
people this fails via https so just use the http link
(http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/).

You need to telnet into the emulator:

telnet localhost 5554

And there you can run the geo command:

geo fix [lon] [lat]

[android-developers] Re: aidl remote service call namespace question

2009-05-16 Thread Dianne Hackborn
For the second question, you'll either want to define an abstract action in
an intent-filter for the service and use that as the intent you bind to
(typically the action is the name of the desired interface for binding to
services), or create an explicit ComponentName with the package name + class
name of the service being bound to and provide that to the Intent. For this
latter, make sure you have set android:exported="true" for the service.

Sorry I can't really help you with the first question, since I don't know
ADT that well. Basically you will need to have both applications like the
generated aidl code into their app.

[android-developers] How to set some lists in one layout?

2009-05-16 Thread daehoon

How to set a few lists in one layout include their own data from DB?

here is source code about set list in Android guide. List id is
@android:list
why the id must be android:list?, may I use my own id?
If I can, how to set lists to main layout including their own data
(title)?

   Cursor notesCursor = mDbHelper.fetchAllNotes();
   startManagingCursor(notesCursor);
   String[] from = new String[]{NotesDbAdapter.KEY_TITLE};
   int[] to = new int[]{R.id.text1};
   SimpleCursorAdapter notes =
   new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.notes_row_weekly,
notesCursor, from, to);
   setListAdapter(notes);

I want to set lists like this :

 |   List1  List2|
 |   title1   |   title |
 |   title2   |   title |
 |   title3   |   title |
 | |   title |
