[android-developers] Re: adb and Eclipse list no device after 1 minute

2009-03-17 Thread Brad Fuller
Could the answer be because a USB hub is between the computer and the ADP1?
Maybe it is timing out and detaching the device? I've moved the connection
from a USB hub to the computer directly and so far the ADP1 continues to be
detected (according to adb devices)

On Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 2:31 PM, Brad bradallenful...@gmail.com wrote:

When I plug in the ADP1 and do the following:

   $ adb devices
   List of devices attached
   HT845GZ50887device

But, after connecting via the USB, my ADP1 device goes away after
 about a minute.

I can also load an application from Eclipse to the ADP1 fine. But
Eclipse lists in error in the Eclipse consolein about a
 min with:

 2009-03-17 12:06:08 - DeviceMonitor]Connection Failure when starting
to monitor device 'HT845GZ50887' : device (HT845GZ50887) request
 rejected: device not found

 If I then:
  $ adb devices
 List of devices attached

Why would the device go away? USB debugging and Stay awake are both
 enabled.

I've found that most of these types of problems are on Windows and
have to do with the USB. Im on Linux, though (gentoo)

[android-developers] Re: Low ear-speaker volume

2009-02-19 Thread Brad Fuller

I'm surprised that there are no potential thoughts about this. I find
it strange that none but the ear-speaker volume is affected. The
volume raises ok, but it just doesn't get very loud. That is the range
is small (say, 0 to 2) where it should be larger (say, 0 to 10)

(I've had it over a month, though.)

First, is there a way to set the default volume of the phone? I
couldn't find it. I've rebooted and even removed the battery to see if
the default volume would come back. But, no luck.

 Notes:
 * The volume is turned all the way up.
 * Speaker volume is fine.
 * Bluetooth headset volume is fine

 thanks,
 brad

I did it and it seems to work. I commented on the site on the procedure I used:

Ok, I found out why I couldn't load the update package, I didn't have
the right sequence. It is:
1. Rename file that you would like to update to update.zip
2. Copy to SD card. Make sure you unmount from your PC so it'll copy
completely over.
3. Turn off G1
5. Power back on holding down END_CALL+Home+Back keys. You'll have to
hold it down until it responds.
6. When icon screen appears, Hold down Alt-L. You will get a list of
operations to perform.
7 - You might have to delete your User Data by selecting Alt-W. I had
to do this to prevent the Android icon from hanging when rebooting.
Unfortunatley, all user data is gone. If you are using ATT, you'll
have to add your APN again.
8. Hold down Alt-S to load update. This will take a minute. A list of
operations will be shown. WAIT until it says to Press Home+Back to
reboot.
9. After loading, Hold down Home+Back keys. It'll reboot a couple of times.

That should be it.

[android-developers] Anatomy of receiving a call

Is there documentation available that details, or can someone tell me,
the flow of an incoming phone call? I guess that
would include the detection of an incoming call, how the
RingToneManager is called, how it goes off-hook, etc.

Is the same true on the other side -- with detecting a phone call? Can
you detect that the phone is receiving a call and then replace with

[android-developers] Re: Is it possible to replace or extend the dialer application ?

2009-01-09 Thread Brad Fuller

Thanks Dianne,

Then perhaps there are ways to implement partial events for incoming
calls. When an incoming call is detected, I imagine that there are
several separate events. For example: get the number of the incoming
call; see if it's in the contact list; display the onscreen graphic of
an incoming with the phone number and the contact name, call the
ringtone manager: etc. Then, when the phone is off-hook, display Call
in progess text.. etc.

I assume that these are separate classes. So, could one display their
own incoming call graphic? Or replace the RingTone manager (not the
ringtone, like ExtendedRings does), etc? Or are they not separate
classes or all private?

Does that make sense?

On Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 2:56 PM, Dianne Hackborn hack...@android.com wrote:
Currently you can intercept outgoing calls and replace that with your own

The issue of built-in apps using internal APIs is kind-of a red-herring.
Yes, in the case of the phone UI, there are a bunch of APIs that you need to
be able to implement something like your own in-call screen... however the
fact that they are internal is not really the issue: we could expose them,
but it still wouldn't work because the current implementation of them
requires that you actually be running in the same process as the telephony
subsystem, so they just can't be used by other apps. For the most part, we
make APIs private because they are not yet something we can maintain in the
future platform are even able to be used successfully by applications. Not
out of some malicious goal to make sure nobody else can make their own
 whatever UI.

Outside of the phone system, for the most part the platform applications use
private APIs because we didn't have time to clean all of the apps up as we
were evolving the official SDK into something that we could support in the
long term. We would love to accept patches that fix these APIs to switch to
 the public APIs.
