[android-developers] Adding an button to a custom view

2011-05-12 Thread Kapil
Dear Developers,

My name is Kapil and I am trying to write a custom view which inherits
View class and everything is drawn in the onDraw function. There is no
xml for the view. The custom view class is instantiated and set in the
function setContentView of an activity.

I wish to add the some buttons to the custom view class
programatically; I have searched over forums and internet; but could
not find proper solution.

Is it possible to do? Can we add a button [or any other view item]
dynamically to a custom view without using XML?

Also Is mixing of custom drawing and XML based view content possible
and if yes how to achieve it?

Please advise.

regards
Kapil

Re: [android-developers] DB Id's vs ListView

2011-04-26 Thread Kapil Lokhande
Hi Guy,

Its so simple as you are setting adpter for listview from data structure
e.g. array,arraylist,linkedlist u can use two arraylist or any other in
which one stores name to display on listview and other stores id. now these
two arraylists will have same size. and clicking on one item in list u can
get corresponding id from arraylist with clicked selected position.
hopefully this helps.

 HOW DO I GET THE ID FOR THE RECORD

 You will have some data structure that holds you data, say Record. This
 will be the content of the Adapter that backs your ListView. When you select
 an item in the ListView it indexes the list of Records, from which you get
 the specific Record instance and it's ID.

 If that does not make sense, review ListView, Adapters, and the relevant
 examples in the documentation.

 This seems to work well if I am touching the screen to start the

 However if I call webView.dispatchKeyEvent to navigate to the video

 KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER Down followed by up, the image shows loading and
 stays in the same state. So it did react to this key event but did not
 start playing the video.

 I noticed that if I touch on the video image, onShowCustomView is
 called in WebChromeClient. However, if the a KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER is
 sent to the selected video image, shouldOverrideUrlLoading is called.

 Can anyone help how to get this video playing with a
 dispatchKeyEvent ?

 You might want to explain what it doesnt work means. It will be slightly

Re: [android-developers] Re: Listen to Incoming Calls through BroadcasrReceiver

2011-04-01 Thread Kapil Lokhande
Hi guys,

GREETINGS OF THE DAY,

in your broadcast reciver u have to implement phone state listener's
onCallStateChanged method. this method gives state of phone i.e. ringing,
idle, offhook.

You can find details about it on android developer by firing serach on phone
state listener. hope this works for you.

 You have to register a BroadcastReciever in your Manifest (like your
 outgoing one) with the intent filter android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE
 and you need the Permission READ_PHONE_STATE.
 If you check for the state CALL_STATE_RINGING, then you know there is
 a incoming call. Then you can start your app. You can start your
 activity or service.

 I'm working on a app using this as well, but at the moment I'm at work
 and don't have the source in front of me, to give you detailed

[android-developers] Re: Java Script alert not working in Android WebView

2011-03-15 Thread Kapil
Thanks mark
 the alert() method in the html file are working now :) .

Now there are two issues in WebView :
1: I am using a textarea in the html file that i am loading in
WebView , and trying to write in Hindi font in it ,
but when i try to write Hindi text it displays as symbol ( rectangle
symbols like [] ) .

when i do the same in firefox browser on desktop it works fine.
any clue how to give support for multiple language in textarea in
WebView ?

2: When I am clicking submit and trying to open the value of textarea
in alert() method in another java script it doesn't work , does it
mean even after using WebChromeClient
its applicable only for vurrent loaded html page and not java scripts
called from that page ?

Re: [android-developers] listview checkbox recycle issue

2011-02-25 Thread Kapil Lokhande
Hi,

I usually use images for checked and unchecked status checkboxes rather than
using actual checkbox widget.
because i always failed to use actual checkbox widget in listview facing
listitem click issue. I know this may not be useful suggestion to you.

On Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 7:30 AM, Wall-E bashee...@gmail.com wrote:

 I have a ListActivity and an ArrayAdapter that contains a list of an
 Object for example ArrayAdapterMyObject. Now in my ArrayAdapter I
 inflate a layout that includes a checkbox. I'm having the issue now
 that when I click on the checkboxes it's fine until it scrolls past
 the window. Now I know that the adapter recycles views so let me
 explain how I have my adapter set up and if anyone could kindly see
 what I'm doing wrong:

 I have a ViewHolder class such as the following:

public class ViewHolder
{
View base;
CheckBox checkbox;
TextView tagTexView;
TextView tagIDTextView;

public ViewHolder(View base)
{
this.base = base;
}

CheckBox getTagCheckBox()
{
if(checkbox == null)
{
checkbox = (CheckBox)
 base.findViewById(R.id.tagInfoCheckBox);
}
return checkbox;
}

TextView getTagMainIdentifierTextView()
{
if(tagTexView == null)
{
TwoLineListItem twoListItem =
 (TwoLineListItem)
 base.findViewById(R.id.taginfo_layoutTwoLineListItem);
tagTexView = (TextView)
 twoListItem.getText1();
}
return tagTexView;
}

TextView getTagIDTextView()
{
if(tagIDTextView == null)
{
TwoLineListItem twoListItem =
 (TwoLineListItem)
 base.findViewById(R.id.taginfo_layoutTwoLineListItem);
tagIDTextView = (TextView)
 twoListItem.getText2();
}
return tagIDTextView;
}
}

 Now in my getView method, I inflate convertView and create the
 viewHolder if convertView is null or set the view holder if it's not
 (holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag()).

 After that, I set all the values of the views by accessing the views
 using the holder, for example:

 holder.getTagCheckBox().setChecked(tag.plot);

 where tag is MyObject that I get using getItem(position) inside my
 getView and tag.plot is the boolean value that will indicate if the
 checkbox should be checked or not.

 I also created a OnCheckedChangeListener that just sets to tag.plot to
 whatever the checked state is and then call notifyDataSetChanged();

 So the text that I update in my views works just fine but the checkbox
 seems to get screwed up and although I've read a few suggestions, none
 of them have worked.

   @Override
public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup
 parent)
{
mInflater = LayoutInflater.from(context);

final MyObject tag = this.getItem(position);

// A ViewHolder keeps references to children views to avoid
// unneccessary calls to findViewById() on each row.
ViewHolder holder;

// When convertView is not null, we can reuse it directly,
 there is
// no need to reinflate it. We only inflate a new View when
 the
 convertView
// supplied by ListView is null.
if (convertView == null)
{
convertView =
 mInflater.inflate(R.layout.taginfo_layout, null);

// Creates a ViewHolder and store references to the
 two children
// views we want to bind data to.
holder = new ViewHolder(convertView);

convertView.setTag(holder);
}
else
{
// Get the ViewHolder back to get fast access to the
 TextView
// and the ImageView.
holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag();
}

// Set the checkbox value to the value of tag.plot
holder.getTagCheckBox().setChecked(tag.plot);
holder.getTagCheckBox().setOnCheckedChangeListener(new
 android.widget.CompoundButton.OnCheckedChangeListener()
{
@Override
public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton
 buttonView,
boolean isChecked)
{

Re: [android-developers] Speed up showing Activity with ListView

2010-12-23 Thread Kapil Lokhande
Hi Johannes,

i think when your list data is in process fetch from server, you can create
your listview or other widgets on activity.only you have make sure after
thread which one fetching data from server will send message to your ui
thread about completion dat fetching. and then on resume you can call your
listview adapter notifydatasetchanged. and while your data fetching thread
is in progress you can show progress dialog.as far as i concerned this
solution will atleast show your list acivity loaded after progess dialog is
dissapear

 I have an application that loads a list of items with thumbnails from
 a server, and shows those items in a ListView.

 The laoding of the data is done before the ListViewActivity is started
 and while that is being done, a ProgressDialog is shown. When the
 loading of the data is done, I start an activity with a ListView that
 displays the items. The thumbnails are downloaded in a seperate thread
 when they are needed in the getView method of ListView.

 This is my problem: When the loading of the data is done, I call
 startActivity with an Intent to start the ListActivity and in that
 intent I put the data.
 My problem is that this takes a few seconds sometimes. How can I speed
 this up?

 Below is the sequence + where it goes wrong:

 The items are downloaded with an AsyncTask that shows a
 ProgressDialog.
 The progressDialog is dissmissed, and startactivity is called.

 Intent in = new Intent(CategoryListScreen.this,
 VideoListScreen.class);
 in.putParcelableArrayListExtra(items, items);
 startActivity(in);

 The listAdapter is created in the onCreate method of my
 VideoListScreen
 getView is called a few times...
 The VideoListScreen is displayed (a few seconds after the
 progressDialog has been dissmissed)

 Also the Logcat output from the ActivityManager indicates it takes a
 few seconds for my activity to start:
 E.g:
 10:13:22.254 - ActivityManager - Starting activity: VideoListScreen
 10:13:25.424 - ActivityManager - Displayed activity: VideoListScreen:
 3166 ms

 How can I make that the activity is displayed faster?

[android-developers] rawQuery called in service shows absurd behaviour

2009-11-24 Thread kapil
I am calling a database function in a service which returns me a
cursor with string values but it behaves abnormally,sometimes it
fetches the values and sometimes the count is 0 though the value has
just been inserted.I am calling the service as soon as a value is
inserted in the database.Also, the parameters passed to the database
function are displayed correctly in my LogCat . The query used to
interact with database is a rawQuery.

Please suggest where am i wrong?

[android-developers] Set selected ringtone as device's default ringtone

2009-11-03 Thread kapil
I want to set selected ringtone as device's default ringtone.

As per my findings, we can use
ContentUris.withAppendedId
(MediaStore.Audio.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI,id)  method to append the
selected ringtone id to content uri and then saving it in database
through ContentValues and System settings.

But i can't figure out what id to append.The id seems to be the id of
elements in hash table as MediaStore saves the audio in such form. Is
it so..?..How can i get the Id of hash table elements?

[android-developers] Problem setting default ringtone of device programmatically

2009-11-02 Thread kapil
I am trying to set the default ringtone of device.I am using the
setActualDefaultRingtoneUri method to set my chosen ringtone as the
default one but when a phone call comes it still plays the default
ringtone and not the one which i had set. I searched for this

http://osdir.com/ml/AndroidDevelopers/2009-05/msg03213.html

 and found out that i need to use the MediaStore
(android.provider.MediaStore) and it's URI's to the external memory to
actually get the ringtones which i want.But for this i need to know
the id of that ringtone in the store. I can't figure out how to do
that.?..also how do i set the uri of my ringtone in the MediaStore? my
ringtone path is--/sdcard/rigtone.ogg

[android-developers] PendingIntent fired but not received on boot

2009-10-30 Thread kapil

i am having a problem in receiving a pending intent.It is fired
successfully at the requested time but if i boot my device before
that time, I refire the pendingIntent on device startup in a service,
pending intent is fired (which i check in OnSendFinished listener of
pending intent) but not received in the respective receiver(Log
statements in the onReceive method of the receiver are not
displayed ).

I want to know whether pendingIntent that have been fired are
canceled at boot time and do we need to refire them or do they exist
and would work normally on startup.
