Dianne Hackborn!!

How would it be possible to create an application that monitors the writing
event on the android smartphone to create an anti-pedophilia application? I
work with development using react-native and would like to know if there is
such a possibility.

[android-developers] Please help me to get a rid of this error - The type android.app.Fragment cannot be resolved

2013-02-27 Thread Manas Shah
Greeting,

I am using android.support.v13 and android.support.v4 external JAR files.
I have done necessary typecasting in the code so it will always refer above
mention JAR files but not the android.app.Fragment .
But still its gives below error :

The type android.app.Fragment cannot be resolved. It is indirectly
referenced from required .class files

I have also checked build path. Build sequence is android.support.v4 --
android.support.v13 -- Android 2.2 -- Android dependence.

Any idea what I`m missing here. I am attaching the code for reference.

Thank you in advance !
-Manas

No one is going to download a RAR file from you and weed through your code
to fix your problem. Try posting a relevant code sample and explaining your
problem better. Details like what device you're running on and what version
of Market you're running would help, for example.

[android-developers] Please Help me! I have SQLiteDatabaseCorruption Error

2012-03-13 Thread Halil Enver Soylu
I have a 5MB database. I split it into 1MB chuck files.
application merges these files and creates its database.

However it works in some Android phones, and does not works in others. I
tried almost dozen of code example in blogs. everytime I got same result.
App's platform vers. is 1.5 so it is not about platform vers.

According to logs of phones that application crushs, app creates copies db
file from Assets to database. then when it attempts to get a query for the
first time, it crushs and gives that error:

and here is my codes that copies asset files into database

String[] dbFiles = myContext.getAssets().list(ASSETS_DB_FOLDER);
OutputStream myOutput = new FileOutputStream(DB_PATH+DB_NAME);
 for(int i =0; i  dbFiles.length; i++)

int length;

}
myOutput.flush();
myOutput.close();

please help me
if there were a problem about database file or query SQL code, it would not
work in some phones. So, it is not about db file or query. I am looking for

2011-11-27 Thread Raghav Sood
Use any one of the numerous methods to send the files to your server (HTTP,
FTP etc). You can use something on the server to combine them into a video.
What you do on the server is not part of the Android SDK, and hence doesn't
belong on the list.

What do you mean by not working? Are you getting a specific error? What
does the LogCat say? Try adding breakpoints to your code.

Also, in my personal opinion, it would be easier to send the images via
HTTP or FTP.

2011-11-27 Thread Raghav Sood
I didn't quite understand your explanation. From what I get, you are saving
images to the SD Card, and then send those images in a byte array to your
server and want to save it as a video file? From what I have learnt so far
in this world, image files don't arbitrarily convert themselves to video
files. It would be easier for you to record the entire video and then send
it after the recording has finished to the server.

Thanks

RE: [android-developers] Please help me!!! how to create video file on server side by send onPreviewFrames byte array

2011-11-27 Thread Muhammad UMER

No, my purpose is not to save to SD Card, My purpose is to capture video from
android camera and as i captured the video(not complete video, like frames)
send live to server and server will save it to file.
Is Mediarecorder will help me to do this?

thanks

I didn't quite understand your explanation. From what I get, you are saving
images to the SD Card, and then send those images in a byte array to your
server and want to save it as a video file? From what I have learnt so far in
this world, image files don't arbitrarily convert themselves to video files. It
would be easier for you to record the entire video and then send it after the
recording has finished to the server.

Thanks

What do you mean by not working? Are you getting a specific error? What does
the LogCat say? Try adding breakpoints to your code.

Also, in my personal opinion, it would be easier to send the images via HTTP or
FTP.

See this for FTP upload:

It might be overly ambitious to send uncompressed frames to the server. You can
compress them to Jpeg in memory and send these to the server via whatever
method. On the server concatenate the files to a MJpeg stream.

If you are sure that what you are sending from the device is fine, then I'd
imagine that whatever server side system you are using to save the files isn't
doing it the correct way. What do you mean by correct format? Does it get saved
only partially? Or is it just a mixed up bunch of data?

Thanks

I believe you just call bindService(), which states that it will create the

[android-developers] Please help me out with problem of indefinite service

2011-11-11 Thread phannguyen
Dear all,
I have an app that contains Activity A and MyService which this
service runs in background indefinitely. Every time Activity A call
onStart i bind this activity to myservice in order to pass data from
Activity A to myservice and Activity A unbind to myservice when it
calls onStop. Everything works ok for 3 days , but now activity A
cannot bind to myservice every time it call onStart anymore. myservice
is still running in background, i know this because i see myservice in
list of service return from
ActivityManager.getRunningServices(Integer.MAX_VALUE).
So what is happening to myservice? it has worked well but now not
correct anymore. this activity A can only bind to myservice again by
calling StartService() again, this will call onCreate on myservice.I
don't want to call startService() again because this is an indefinite
service. Assuming that i have to call startService() again, i dont
even know that when and where i will call startService() again.

[android-developers] Please help me with this issue

2011-06-23 Thread Jatin Salla
I am new to Android and have almost completed developing the Mobile
app which consumes the REST service and also uses Google API for this
app.
This application is developed in Android Version 2.3.3 API level 10
(Google API (Google Inc.) - API level 10).

I thought of checking the backward compatibility of the app I created,
hence changed the AVD (also tried creating new AVD) to point to
Android version 2.1.1(Google API (Google Inc.) - API Level 7).

But When I started the Emulator with this new AVD the app is not
running and I check the logcat and getting following issue in the

[android-developers] please help me

2011-03-21 Thread francois jacob
Hi there,

  I'm a french android developer. I've published an app in the market
(DRAWTOOLS). I know french websites where to publish test and reviews
of my app, but i don't know for other countries. That's not so easy to
find... So I'm looking for some people who can help give me links to
such websites, and can help me to publish on those sites (when not in
english language).

  Then I could help you for french publishing and french translation
for your app if you need. I think this could be interresting for both
of us.

Here's the link for my app:

Thanks in advance,

I tested on my Droid X. It would be nice for the tiles to scale. The
game only occupied the upper left side of the screen. Also, the bottom
text entry displays text that I cannot read because the text is maybe
2x larger than the entry widget. Thus, I can only see the bottom half
of the text.

The bearing angle seems to be computed in the horizontal plane. If
you wish to adjust for the device's orientation, you need to
concatenate it with the bearing angle.

Google for quaternions.

This is a (relatively) simple math technique to work with rotations

this sounds trivial to me.

Just compensate the error that is introduced by not actually pointing the
device north by subtracting that error from your arrow's pointing angle. No
need to change any algorithm, just compensate for the dude, you're holding
it wrong

Re: [android-developers] Please help me with calculating direction from point A to B

2010-09-22 Thread Pedro Teixeira

I've tried it.

Adding and subtracting the value: event.values[0], which is actually
my Azimuth in degrees returned by the sensor.

But the orientation is off! ..

The algorithm gives the Correct value, but it doesn't move because
there's not sensor variables involved.. so if I subtract the error it
points in the wrong direction

Re: [android-developers] Please help me with calculating direction from point A to B

2010-09-22 Thread Kostya Vasilyev

 Pedro,

I think you should learn something about the way direction (and
orientation) is specified in computer programming.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaw,_pitch,_and_roll

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler_angles

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotation_representation_(mathematics)#Rotation_matrix_.E2.86.94_Euler_angles

I believe that Android orientation sensors work this way.

Now about the compass

There are two ways you can think about this:

First, take the value you get from the algorithm and make it into a
vector in 3D space (i.e. think of the arrow you're going to draw to
indicate direction). Then:

One: Compute the device's orientation matrix using sensor data. Take the
inverse of this matix, and multiply the arrow vector by this matrix.

Two: Compute the device's orientation matrix using sensor data. Rather
than interpreting it as a rotation matrix, think of it as defining a
plane in space (aligned with the device's screen). Then project the
arrow vector onto this plane, in the plane's coordinates.

You might want to start with compensating just for the vertical axis
(the device's rotation from the true north direction), it might be enough.

I need to use the values offered by the onSensorChanged(SensorEvent
event).

This are the data I have available:

event.values[0]: azimuth, rotation around the Z axis (device in
relation to north, 0º)
event.values[1]: pitch, rotation around the X axis
event.values[2]: roll, rotation around the Y axis
mLatitude: device current latitude gottern from GPS (variable)
mLongitude: device current longitude gotten from GPS (variable)
picLatitude: static picture latitude established previously
picLongitude: static picture longitude established previously
distance: distance in Km from device to the picture calculated
previously

And this the formula that works correct, and gives me the correct
angle.. ( BUT IT DOESN'T USE ANY OF THE SENSOR DATA SO THE LINE
COMPASS DOESNT MOVE):

double dLong = picLongitude - mLongitude;
double y =  (Math.sin(dLong) * Math.cos(picLatitude));
double x =  (Math.cos(mLatitude) * Math.sin(picLatitude) -
Math.sin(mLatitude)*Math.cos(picLatitude)*Math.cos(dLong));
double angleDegreesWrongRange = Math.abs(Math.toDegrees(Math.atan2(y,
x)));
float angleDegrees = (float) ((angleDegreesWrongRange+360) % 360);

myCompass.updateDirection(angleDegrees);

I got this bearing formula from this website:
http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html

Can someone please help me with this?
I've try adding, subtracting… the azimuth.. I've tried with the
others.. seriously at this point I'm just demoralized..

Thank you in advance

Re: [android-developers] Please help me with calculating direction from point A to B

2010-09-18 Thread Kostya Vasilyev

 Pedro,

If I understand you correctly, you are having difficulties with the
device's orientation.

The bearing angle seems to be computed in the horizontal plane. If you
wish to adjust for the device's orientation, you need to concatenate it
with the bearing angle.

Google for quaternions.

This is a (relatively) simple math technique to work with rotations the
same way you can work with vectors: add / subtract, interpolate.

Bear in mind that they *will* be accessible from other applications, so
long as those other applications request the permission and the user
agrees to it.

If you absolutely do not ever want another application to access the
data, don't implement a ContentProvider, because the primary purpose of
a ContentProvider is to provide data to other applications.

The Launcher does not hold the
com.eyebrowssoftware.BPTracker.permission.MEDICAL permission. Hence, it
can't start it.

I am not quite sure why you are trying to protect activities with a
permission. I can understand the permission on the content provider, if
you want users to agree to allow the other apps access to the data. But
who cares if, for some screwball reason, something else (like, say, the
Launcher) wants to open one of your activities? It's not like they can
access the actual data in any way. That's why, for example, you can do
an ACTION_VIEW on a contact without the READ_CONTACTS permission.

[android-developers] Please help me find documentation on actions for the manifest file

2009-12-10 Thread Joe Mihalich

   Hi,

  This has been killing me. I finally found examples around the
net for things I wanted to experiment with. I had to go searching cuz
I could find this information anywhere in the API Docs.

  Two things specifically that I'm interested in are:

  1) For listening for broadcast SMS messages through a broadcast
receiver, I see that you have to defined the action, for the intent in
the broadcast receiver element as:

receiver android:name=.myClassName
intent-filter
action android:name=
android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED /
/intent-filter

First, where is that name
android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED defined? How am I supposed to
track that down in the API Doc? There is no
android.provider.Telephony class or package.

Second, in the code for receiving the actual broadcast, I see
you need to do something like this to get the message(s).

Object[] pdus = (Object[]) bundle.get(pdus);

Where is it defined that the extra name in the bundle is
pdus for SMS messages.

 2) OK, similar thing for receiving GMail and Exchange email
delivery notifications.

 First, is there a way to get them via a broadcast receiver?

 I see code floating around that you need to do something like
this instead:

contentResolver.registerContentObserver(Uri.parse(content://gmail-
ls), true, gmailObserver);

Cursor conversations = _contetResolver.query(
Uri.parse(content://gmail-ls/
conversations/
+
YourEmailAddress, null, null, null, null);

And the actual conversation messages will be:
Cursor messages = _contetResolver.query(Uri
.parse
(content://gmail-ls/conversations/

+ YourEmailAddress + /

+ String.valueOf(conversationId)

+ /messages), null, null, null, null);

  If this is how you have to do it, then that's fine. But
where is this documented so that I could have figured this out myself?

Thanks,
Joe

It is undocumented, unsupported, not recommended, and a really bad idea.
This is hacking into another application, no different than you calling
random exported functions out of an Excel DLL.

Re: [android-developers] Please help me to choose Android Phones (For Android development)

2009-11-09 Thread SoftwareForMe.com SoftwareForMe.com
Personally, I find all Android phones to be excellent for development.

However, here are some things I would consider before deciding.

Let's consider these devices:
HTC G1
HTC Magic
HTC MyTouch
HTC Hero
HTC Eris
Samsung Galaxy
Samsung Moment
Motorola Cliq
Motorola Droid

Given the choice of a device with or without a keyboard, I'd choose one with
a keyboard. You can use the soft keyboard on a device with a hard keyboard,
but not vice versa. This leave us with:

HTC G1
Samsung Moment
Motorola Cliq
Motorola Droid

Next, I would make Android 2.0 a priority. The Multi-touch API, Bluetooth
API and others are key to the near-term feature of mobile development.
Nobody seems to know for sure, but it's unlikely the G1 will get 2.0, so I
would probably not consider it unless you hear differently.

Next, 3D UIs are getting more important, so I'd want a phone that has decent
accelerated 3D hardware. This eliminates the Samsung Galaxy, but leaves all
others.

Last there is screen size. Most smartphones are HVGA now (320x480), but WVGA
(800 or 854 x 480) will be the standard soon.

So, the best choice depends on what you want to do. If you only want to
cover the basics and don't mind skipping a few capabilities or API's, then
the cheapest or most rugged might be the best choice.

If you want the best device to prepare students for all aspects of Android
and mobile development, there's really no choice but the Motorola Droid,
because of it's:

* WVGA screen
* Terrific hardware accelerated OpenGL
* Android 2.0
* Hardware keyboard
* Full set of sensors (has a proximity sensor)

I hope this helps.

[android-developers] Please help me in defining the style of my custom widget in my theme.

2009-02-14 Thread Meryl Silverburgh

Hi,

I have tried everything thing I can thing of in defining the style of
my widget in my theme. But I still can't get it to work. I have posted
my questions to various forum/newgroup, I can't get my problem
resolved. I appreciate if someone can help me.

I am tying to define the style of MyWidget in my theme.

I create a widget myself called 'MyWidget' and I want to define the
style of MyWidget in my theme.

And I have added this in my manifest file:

 application android:label=@string/app_name android:theme=@style/MyTheme

This in my themes.xml file:
resources
 style name=MyTheme
  item name=buttonStyleMyWidget@style/MyWidget/item
  /style
/resources

and this in my styles.xml file:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
resources
style name=MyWidget
  item name=android:background@drawable/btn_mywidget_bg/item
/style
/resources

But android did not pick up the style of 'MyWidget' unless I
specifically put 'style='@style/MyWidget'

In other words, in my main.xml, if i specified my 'style' attribute,
my background
drawable was displayed correctly.
 test.MyWidget android:id=@+id/mywidget style=@style/MyWidget /

but if I just do this:
test.MyWidget android:id=@+id/mywidget / , the background drawable
is not display correctly.

Can you please tell me what am I missing?

Thank you.
