[android-developers] Re: G1 for testing outside US
In the carriers and vendors, guess how they test the device applications: they download them and start clicking buttons (with obvious test plans and checkboxes). They also have programs to scan for APIs used so they know what components the app is using (GPS, network, etc). I've raised this on a couple of threads but there is no reason that we couldn't get a dozen or so developers who have the device in the US to help with testing other people's applications. A couple of hours per week volunteering could cover a lot of ground. We could even use webcams, so that the app developer can see the response time and interaction. Hi, Waiting patiently and keeping an eye on htc.com and its country specific product pages for any G1/Dream news, so far only the US page seems to have any details. This is hard if you don't live in a region serviced by T-Mobile, eg Australia I like most developers are keen to test on real devices, asap, particularly for the various sensors (camera, movement, compass, gps etc) - for which a remote testing facility cannot provide much help. It is also particularly important if you are to have any hope of participating in ADC II. I was asking the same question to the Google guys at one of the Developer Days. Unfortunately, they couldn't do anything about it. So, it looks like we depent on carriers or HTC when they make the devices available somewhere else. What does the OHA thinks about that? Do they want to let the developers idle? Couldn't they provide a pool of devices just for developers? Maybe they google could forward this issue to OHA... Probably the main problem is that there aren't enough devices anyway. Production takes time and money :-= Cheers, Friedger On Sep 25, 10:31 am, gjs [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Waiting patiently and keeping an eye on htc.com and its country specific product pages for any G1/Dream news, so far only the US page seems to have any details.
