[android-developers] Re: Paid upgrades discussion
the best option would be that google change the market options, they lack a lot of things, this is just one of them, it's a shame that we don't even have a channel to talk to market developers as opposed the channel we have here to talk to the platform devs if you plan to use what is available at the moment you could: have 3 apps, the old one, a upgrade and the full the old would be just the old, the full would be the full, and upgrade would be like a service that would cost the difference and would be like a service, when launching the old one you could check if they have the upgrade little complicated, and would be a mess with comments, stars etc.. my suggestion is getting the reward as more costumers, giving away the upgrade On Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 8:08 AM, Keith Wiley kbwi...@gmail.com wrote: On Mar 29, 8:27 pm, Streets Of Boston flyingdutc...@gmail.com wrote: I'm sorry to say this, but you could have known this before you put all this work in, if you had read the terms and agreements of the Android Market. [android-developers] Re: Paid upgrades discussion
I'm not a hundred percent sure, but very close to 100% :-) Google's Android Market does not provide upgrade functionaliy, except free upgrades forever. Sorry... :( I'm sorry to say this, but you could have known this before you put all this work in, if you had read the terms and agreements of the Android Market. For now, you could - - either maintain two versions: The old one and upgrade this one just a bit for users to upgrade for free; The new one for a higher price as a new application. - or you could just have current customers have free upgrades and new customers pay the somewhat higher price. Since you improved your app, hopefully you will get your rewards by even more customers. Since it is a developer-oriented discussion, I have chosen to put it here. I apologize if I was incorrect in this choice. I am about to release a major upgrade for my app. It represents hundreds of hours of work spanning several weeks of my life. The increase in functionality and change in behavior and UI are significant, so much so that I intend to raise the price (slightly) after uploading the new version. Problem is, current users will simply download the new upgrade for free without paying me anything...unless they are kind enough to make a donation. I don't want to make the new app a completely different package because then new and upgrading users would have to pay the full price, which would probably (rightfully) infuriate the current users. I don't want to charge them full price, I honestly don't want that kind of money from them ...but just because you bought MS Office in 1987 or whatever doesn't mean you get to walk out of a store with every new version for free for the rest of your life after that... I don't know what to do, but I hate the idea of just giving all this effort away for free, I've worked insanely long hours on this project. I am looking or any suggestions. The only approach I've thought of so far is the beg and plead for upgrade donations on the splash screen or something pathetic like that.
