[android-developers] Regarding QUERY_ALL_PERMISSION permission

2023-04-04 Thread Durgesh Patel
Hello,

I was referring
https://developer.android.com/training/package-visibility/declaring#intent-filter-signature
 android
official documentation for package visibility behavioural changes for app
targets Android 11 and Higher.

If we need to query or interact with all installed apps on a device,
independent of the components they contain. App needs to use
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission to to see all other installed apps.

Also, it is mentioned
https://developer.android.com/training/package-visibility/declaring#intent-filter-signature
 intent
filter based approach that your app might need to query or interact with a
set of apps that serve a particular purpose, but you might not know the
specific package names to include.

In regards to intent filter based approach, may be there is one loophole
that I noticed while exploring the element if you add
android.intent.action.MAIN as the action element in the intent filter to
get almost all the installed apps without adding the QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES
permission since almost all apps would have this element in the
AndroidManifest.

*Question* do we know if we follow this loophole approach, will Google
reject our app?

Are you looking at the right tab? When you go to create an AVD, the first
selection is "Recommended" which doesn't include Froyo. Select "Other
Images" and it should be there.

[android-developers] Regarding Android Studio

2016-05-05 Thread Brian Chacko
Dear friends,

I am facing an issue with using a target platform for Android Studio while
trying to create an emulator through AVD for Froyo i have opened the AVD
manager and selected Froyo API 8 and downloaded the Google API and the ARM
APIw

However after downloading, Froyo is nowhere to be seen in the list of
downloaded target platforms. Such that I am not able to use the specific
API.

Note that I would like to use Froyo due to system compatibility and I am
trying to install this on a few machines.

Can anyone please help me with this issue?

With Regards,

Brian

[android-developers] Regarding random behaviour of android Signature using sign()

2016-03-07 Thread Nilanjana Deka
Hi,

I have followed Android's keystore mechanism defined
by http://developer.android.com/training/articles/keystore.html to generate
private key and then used the private key to sign the data. When I am using
same private key and same data, I am getting similar signature most of the
time. But this behaviour is not consistent. During a stress test, 1 out of
10 times, my application fails as *Android Signature API is giving
different result with same private key and same data. *Below is my code
look like.

Signature signatureObject = Signature.getInstance("SHA256withRSA");
if(null != signatureObject) {
signatureObject.initSign(existingKey);
signatureObject.update(dataByterray);
byte[] signatureByteArray = signatureObject.sign();
if(null != signatureByteArray && 0 < signatureByteArray.length) {
String signatureString = Base64.encodeToString(signatureByteArray,
Base64.DEFAULT);
//s_log.debug("db signature string = " + signatureString, s_CLASS);
result = signatureString.substring(0,31).toCharArray();
}

}

Please help me to find out the problem. I am using the result data to
encrypt my database, but as I am getting different result sometimes, I am
getting error in opening the database, thus lots of complains from users. This
is happening in most of Android devices >= 18. Please suggest what can be done.

Thanks.

[android-developers] Regarding Google play warning

2016-02-24 Thread concept . android2015

Hello Android Developers,

We had received mail regarding “You are using an unsafe implementation of
X509TrustManagfer”.

To resolve this issue we have applied solution from
*http://transoceanic.blogspot.in/2011/11/android-import-ssl-certificate-and-use.html

*

Here we have generated *new BKS key store* and pass this Key Store
SSLSocketFactory. This Factory is responsible for verification of Server
certificate. We have already existing Keystore but it is not in .BKS
formate . That’s why we have created new one for specially HTTPS call.
Please find attachment to review code.

Can you please check and confirm that with this solution our application
would be safe?

Let us know if you have any other best solution.

Thanks,

Dev Concept

[android-developers] Regarding device identfier blog : Android Serial number

2016-02-02 Thread Asif k
Hi All,

I was going through the recent developer blog at
http://android-developers.blogspot.in/2016/02/marshmallow-and-user-data.html.
Consequently, I have also checked best practices for device identifier at
http://developer.android.com/training/articles/user-data-ids.html?utm_campaign=android_discussion_marshmallow_020116&utm_source=anddev&utm_medium=blog.

My observation from above references is that android.os.Build.SerialNumber
is not referred for any scenario within Best practices. In android, *Serial
Number seems to be unique per device and even remain persistent after
factory reset*. If we recall a blog few years down (
http://android-developers.blogspot.in/2011/03/identifying-app-installations.html

), it is mentioned that Serial Number can be used as unique hardware
identifier for non telephony devices.

Any specific reason for not including the Serial Number in the latest
guidelines?

[android-developers] Regarding interval for UsageStatsManager.

2015-06-16 Thread gaurav jain
Hello, I'm using the newly introduced UsageStatsManager (Android L) to get
usage statistics for all applications for a certain time period. All works
well if a predefined interval is selected, but I'm not able to get usage
statistics for a few hours (e.g statistics for last 2 hours). I've tried
using Calendars while passing start and end duration, and also tried my
luck with System.currentTimeMillis() but I always get today's data in
return (i.e the whole day).

This is how I used calendars:

Calendar startCalendar = Calendar.getInstance();
startCalendar.add(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, -2);

Calendar endCalendar = Calendar.getInstance();

usageList = usm.queryUsageStats(interval, startCalendar.getTimeInMillis(),
endCalendar.getTimeInMillis());

And for System.currentTimeMillis() :

long startTime = System.currentTimeMillis() - 7200*1000 // 7200 seconds i.e. 2
hrs
long endTime = System.currentTimeMillis();

usageList = usm.queryUsageStats(interval, startTime, endTime);

Any help regarding this?

Thanks for the background. That was my own interpretation, which is why I
didn't use it last time I did a major

I don't have a link to share, cause I don't recall where I saw or heard
this (I/O video or something), but from what I recall, Google no longer
wants widgets that solve a very specific design pattern in the SDK.

I *think* I remember that Romain Guy maligned the fact that the
aforementioned SlidingDrawer was ever put into the SDK to begin with.

Reasoning being (from my understanding) that since Android's design
patterns change with damn near every major version, those widgets can get
outdated quickly, will get deprecated (like SlidignDrawere or Gallery), and
will just clutter up the main SDK.

If they're in the support library, they are "extras" and can more easily be
phased out when the time comes.

Again, just my understanding, so if anyone knows different, or has links to
share to corroborate or denounce these claims, please share.

1. Can I use this
sqlite-ndk-0.9.zip
in
the native code (say in the Android middleware - C/C++ code and hence it
will not be running in an application context. My library might be loaded
and used by a daemon in the middleware layer).

For this you may have to follow approach like android fwk does in media
service,
Application context will b till JNI level. After that
mediaservice(stagefright) will run in other process. (as per my
understanding)

[android-developers] Regarding Android SQlite NDK

Hi All,

I am creating a library in the Android middleware which needs to use
Sqlites methods for creating/editing/querying etc. I was going through a
project on http://code.google.com/p/sqlite-ndk/. I am planning to use it
for my purpose. Below are some questions I had. It would be of great help
if anyone can respond to them.

1. Can I use this
sqlite-ndk-0.9.zipin
the native code (say in the Android middleware - C/C++ code and hence
it
will not be running in an application context. My library might be loaded
and used by a daemon in the middleware layer).

2. Can we integrate the Sqlite Cipher to this (i.e. can
sqlite-ndk-0.9.zipbe
part of this library, which will be loaded and used in the middleware
layer).

Appreciate any help on this.

Thanks and Regards,
Prasanth

Re: [android-developers] Regarding Receiving Broadcasts

If you are wanting to know the specifics, like under the hood stuff, then
you should probably ask on one of the android source google groups, found
here: http://source.android.com/community/index.html

Other than that all you need to know is that it is a black box that
works... Your receiver receives notifications of broadcasts from the OS.

[android-developers] Regarding API MediaPlayer.setVideoScalingMode() in api level 16

2012-08-16 Thread Wendong
Hi All,

Has anyone tried this API when using software codec? I found that it's working
fine when using hardware codec, but on software codec, the mode used is always
VIDEO_SCALING_MODE_SCALE_TO_FIT, even I set the mode to
VIDEO_SCALING_MODE_SCALE_TO_FIT_WITH_CROPPING.

Is mode VIDEO_SCALING_MODE_SCALE_TO_FIT_WITH_CROPPING not supported on software
codec?

Thanks,

Re: [android-developers] Regarding Application is not installed alert

2012-07-27 Thread Dianne Hackborn
It is fundamentally wrong to require a permission on your activity, and
then publish intent filters for it that would allow other applications to
try to launch it without explicitly expecting a permission (which means
matching any standard filters such as MAIN for your main activities, VIEW,
SEND, and on and on).

These are two completely incompatible things. Publishing under one of
these intent filters says "hey anyone who wants this standard kind of
activity, you can find me and run me and not know anything else about me!"
 Requiring a permissions says "hey you can only launch this activity if you
explicitly know about this special behavior it has that requires you hold
the appropriate permission to access."

Pick one or the other. Not both.

[android-developers] Regarding Application is not installed alert

What is 'plz'? Is it some sort of insult?

 I'm thinking of doing something similar. I haven't researched it yet but my
planned approach is to do something in the child app to check the calling
intent rather than your approach.

There is no solution. The OS s indicating that the home screen's

You cannot customize that message, because you did not write the

[android-developers] Regarding Application is not installed alert

2012-07-25 Thread Bunty syed

Hi All,

Actually I have one launcher with some child apps.

I have given permission in all child apps so that only my launcher can
launch them as follows

Tat is working fine. So with above, if any other application not signed
with same keystore of child apps & not having required permission will get
Permission denial exception while trying to launch the child apps .

Now my doubt is when I click any of installed child Apps in the phone
application menu, I am getting Alert saying that "Application is not
installed.."
 Tat is a expected behavior.
But is there any way to customize that Alert message instead I want to
display my alert message like "Plz launch from my launcher app".

Re: [android-developers] Regarding Custom Key

2012-07-23 Thread Mark Murphy
You can write your own input method editor (a.k.a., soft keyboard) and
make it available for users.

And, for input method editors that support the action button
(typically lower right corner), you have some control over that via
android:imeActionLabel and related attributes.

Beyond this, since input method editors are implemented by third-party
apps, you cannot control them.

The best way to find a job is to show off your creations.
Employers value developers who take the time and program application on

Link to the applications you've developed and people will notice.
