[android-developers] Testing apps

2013-04-22 Thread Bertjan
Hi,

Is it possible to let a customer test my Android app before it's public
available on Google play?

Or is the only way to upload the APK to dropbox or host it on your website
or to just email the file to them?
Once they've downloaded the APK, they can just open it and it will install
and run.

Thanks, Bertjan

[android-developers] Testing android.media.ToneGenerator

2012-01-08 Thread Ibrahim Awwal
Hi all,

I'm experiencing a hard to reproduce bug on a CyanogenMod9 port on my
phone. I have a hunch that it has something to do with the
ToneGenerator[1] class; basically in a very rare circumstance the
phone will play an additional ringing tone on top of my normal ring
tone sometimes even when the phone is silenced. It sounds like a
handful of pure tones which is why I suspect this class (also there
were suspicious things in the logcat that pointed to ToneGenerator but
they might have been red herrings). The particulars don't really
matter, right now I'm just curious how to actually test the
ToneGenerator in an application. Basically I want to try generating
all the tones to see if any of them match the tone that I'm hearing
(this is a very roundabout way of debugging the problem I'm facing,
but like I said I'm just curious now). I found the built in test in
android_frameworks_base called TonesAutoTest[2] but I have no idea how
I can take this and run it on my device. Any pointers in any direction
would be appreciated. Also, if this is not the appropriate mailing
list, I would appreciate being steered in the right direction. I
realize my source link is to CyanogenMod but that's only because it's
convenient to link to a github source page and I'm used to looking at
their repos. Thanks!

Code:

This is in the activity

[android-developers] Testing IAP

2012-09-14 Thread New Developer

Hi All
I'm looking at adding In App Purchases to my app, to allow for features
to be unlocked

I have downloaded and looked through the example code (Dungeons)

My question is testing
Am I correct in saying, that to test you have to actually purchase the
item and then process a refund for each item ?
If so, will this not result in multiple debits and credits against the
account and CC linked to the account ?

Or is there another mechanism to test that purchases work

Thanks in advance

[android-developers] Testing application

2008-12-02 Thread indiabolbol.com

I am interested in how the developers tested the application before
putting the application on the android market. I know it can be tested
on the device, but what about testing on the real device.

In other words, if I have the real device can I upload the application
to the device and perform the test? If so, how do I connect my
development environment to real device, rather than the emulator.

[android-developers] Testing MapActivities

2008-10-07 Thread Ludwig
I need to set up some decent testing for a MapActivity that displays a
couple of Overlays.
I have a standard test harness for my derived MapActivity and I know can
create it (onCreate() gets called. The onCreate sets up my overlays. Nothing
special here and this test runs successfully.

But the real work gets of course done, when the map is being painted. Only
then the calls to the overlays draw method get issued, where the real work
takes place.

public void draw(Canvas canvas, MapView mapView,
 boolean shadow) {...}

My overlays need certain information from the canvas (such as width/height)
and the mapView (such as projection, which lets me compute the screen
coordinates),
while also needing the canvas to draw into it.

The draw call in real life gets issued from the ActivityThread when the root
window is drawn. This does not happen in the test.

Any idea on how I can trigger this?

Ludwig

[android-developers] Testing internationalization...

2008-11-04 Thread atrus123

Hello,

I'm currently working to add international variations to my app, but
I'm not sure how to test them. Is there some way in the emulator or
the phone to mimic being in the UK?

I'm handling international variations by using the values-en-rUK/
method. Should there always be a generic values/ folder in case there
is a user outside those countries or will that always trump the
others?

Also, is there a schedule as to when the G1 will be released in
countries other than the US and the UK?

Thank you for any insight.

[android-developers] Testing software rendering

2010-02-18 Thread Rixtious Dawn
Hi,

Is there any way to force a phone with hardware acceleration (say, the
ADP1) to use software rendering for OpenGL instead (and ideally within
the framework of a GLSurfaceView)? I've been receiving reports that my
game doesn't work well on phones without hardware graphics
acceleration (like the HTC Tattoo). I can test in the emulator, but
emulating the accelerometer doesn't really work well for playtesting.
I'm hoping to see how software rendering feels on my ADP1 instead of
having to buy another phone to test on.

Also, on a related note, is there any way to find out that I'll end up
getting the Pixelflinger as my renderer before I actually get to
onSurfaceCreated in a GLSurfaceView? Once I have a GL10 object, I can
do a glGetString to find out that Android Pixelflinger 1.0 is the
renderer...but can I find out beforehand that there's no hardware
acceleration available?

Thanks,
-Rix

[android-developers] testing uses-permission

2009-06-24 Thread Sheado

howdy,

i'm prepping my first app for publishing and am a bit confused about
how to properly test my tags.. if i don't specify
any permissions my app runs with no complaints on my G1. I tried
installing it via "adb install" as well as with the eoeAppInstaller
(as somebody had recommended). Also, the app is signed with my own
certificate (not the debug cert).

given that it works fine with no permissions (btw, it accesses camera
and sd card), how will I know if I've set all of the proper tags?

what's the proper way to test tags?

thank you!!

[android-developers] Testing onSaveInstanceState/onRestoreInstanceState

2013-02-19 Thread Larry Meadors
I'm trying to do instrumentation testing of an activity that uses fragments.

I'm trying to test the onSaveInstanceState by doing this:

/*/

runTestOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
@Override
public void run() {
instrumentation.callActivityOnSaveInstanceState(activity,
outState);
}
});
instrumentation.waitForIdleSync();
assertEquals(MainActivity.MY_TITLES,
outState.getInt(MainActivity.SELECTED_TAB));

Log.d(TAG, "so far, so good...");

/*/

That works fine, but that's the end of my test.

The test runner shows this:
---
Running tests
Test running started
Test failed to run to completion. Reason: 'Instrumentation run failed
due to 'java.lang.IllegalStateException''. Check device logcat for
details
Test running failed: Instrumentation run failed due to

---

Looking in logcat, I see this:
---
02-19 08:25:58.840:

The thing that has me perplexed here is that IllegalStateException -
the code it ultimately points back to in the stack trace is in the
onPause() of my activity. I'm trying to commit a fragment transaction
and in the application it works fine - it just fails in my test.

I suspect I'm doing something out of order, but googled all morning
and can't find anything that seems to point me in the right direction.

Any hints?

Larry

[android-developers] Testing download restrictions

2012-07-19 Thread ColorTheorist
It has come to my attention that an app that I have been developing for
does not show up on the Nexus 7 that I had received last night when
searching for it on Google Play. It loaded on my device this morning when
launching it from the Eclipse IDE. So then it came through my thought
process that perhaps there was a permissions preventing it.

Since the device does not have haptic feedback, and one of my permission
for vibration did not have the android:required=false flag set, I was
wondering if this could be the cause. The true question here however
though is, "how would the developer here know whether or not this change
will resolve the issue, without submitting a new version on the Google Play
store and searching for it once more?" It seems to me that launching it
from the IDE doesn't enforce the concept, since as I recall it will launch
on the device regardess unless there is an OS conflict. I don't want to
post updates to the users multiple times if I have not resolved the problem
just to see if its what was causing the issue.

[android-developers] Testing with ActivityInstrumentationTestCase

2012-05-23 Thread Marco@worldcorp
Hi all
 i am trying to write some tests for my Android Application
I have couple of tests which extends ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2
and runs just fine.

I wanted then to test one of my Activities in isolation..
so i wrote a test which extends ActivityUnitTestCase

THis is my test

@MediumTest
public void testPrecondition() {
Bundle savedInstanceState = new Bundle();
savedInstanceState.putSerializable(BudgetDbAdapter.TRIP_ID,
tripId);
savedInstanceState.putSerializable(BudgetDbAdapter.TRIP_AMOUNT,
tripAmount);
startActivity(null, savedInstanceState, null);
Assert.assertNotNull(getActivity());

}

But i cannot manage to run it.

Whenever i run my test project as Android JUnit Test, all the test
extending ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2 ran, while the one
extending ActivityUnitTestCase doesn't.

Could anyone explain me how can i run a test which extends
ActivityUnitTest?

Is it supposed to run in the emulator?

w/kindest regards
   marco

[android-developers] Testing the OrientationListener

2008-12-17 Thread Hopper

Hey all,

I'd like to know what options (if any) I have to test the
OrientationListener -- and other sensors -- from within the Android
Emulator. Five minutes of Google searching yielded nothing.

Most preferably, I'd like to know if there's GUI for this, or if it's
something similar to the shell commands for location.

Thanks,

According to the logs no error occurs with test accounts. Has anybody

[android-developers] Testing voice recognition

2010-06-29 Thread go_dores
I am trying to test an app that uses voice recognition. I understand
through my own tests and through Googling that the emulators don't
support voice recognition. Specifically, when I try to run my test it
gives this error.

No Activity found to handle Intent
{ action=android.speech.action.RECOGNIZE_SPEECH (has extras)

My thought was that I could create a MockContext that could return a
MockPackageManager that could override queryIntentActivities and spoof
my app into thinking that voice recognition is there for testing
purposes. I'm thinking that my tests can use ActivityMonitor to
return simulated speech recognition results when the app goes looking
for speech input.

Does this sound relatively sane so far?

My problem is that I cannot get past the error above. When I run the
test in the debugger and put in tons of breakpoints, I can see that
the getPackageManager method on my MockContext isn't getting called.
So presumably I'm not getting the mock context plugged in correctly?
Or too late?

I was originally using ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2, but with this
there doesn't seem to be any hook to plug in a MockContext. This link
--
http://tenacious33.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/android-functional-testing-with-mockcontexts/
-- suggested adding setters on my Activity class to set the context
directly from the test, but that doesn't seem to do the trick.

I have now switched to ActivityUnitTestCase, and I am calling the
setActivityContext method in my setUp method. But I still get the
error above and my getPackageManager method is not getting called.

Can somebody point me to an example or give me some thoughts on how to
use a MockPackageManager?

And/or, has anybody had success with automated testing of voice
recognition on the emulator?

Thanks!

[android-developers] Testing on Motorola CLIQ

Hi

I'm looking for a developer that would be willing to help and has in
his/her posession Motorola CLIQ

One of my applications has stopped working on CLIQ after users have
applied 1.3.18 software from T-Mobile - it force closes on any attempt

I've put try{} catch{} at the beggining of the onCreate() but users
are still getting Force Close, so I'm guessing the problem is
elsewhere (Manifest ?, Layout ?, Resources ?)
It works well on other devices.

[android-developers] Testing an Asynchronous Activity

2009-12-03 Thread Brion Emde
Apologies if this is a widely asked question. I did take a look.

I'm using a web service disguised as a ContentProvider and
AsyncQueryHandler to isolate my activity from the delays of transport.

My question is: during testing, how can I determine when my activity
has retrieved the data from the web service? That would be after
onQueryComplete() in the AsyncQueryHandler has come back with the
"real" data.

During manual testing, I just sit there and wait until the view
updates. How can I do that using ActivityUnitTestCase and
ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2?

Thanks

[android-developers] Testing Power state - Question?

Hi,

Had a look through the reference and i cannot find anywhere that
allows you to set up a listener to listen to power state changes.

what i would like to do is apply KeyguardLock when we enter into the

Does anyone have any idea's about how to listen to or obtain the

[android-developers] Testing App Battery Usage

Hey Guys,

We want to have a live debugger (mobile connected to the computer by

Is this possible?
Running a debugger/logviewer on the device may cause a false report,

[android-developers] Testing an Accessibility service

2012-05-31 Thread Michael Giambalvo
I have an accessibility service as described here:
http://developer.android.com/training/accessibility/service.html

I would like to create tests for my service. Since my service reads
window content using AccessibilityNodeInfo objects, I'm most
interested in testing that it does the right thing with screen
changes. As far as I can tell, a regular ServiceTestCase won't work
for me, since I don't want control over the lifecycle of my service.
Instead, it looks as though my service is started when the system's
AccessibilityManagerService binds to it and sends a "setConnection"
message. I would like to be able to have the system invoke my service
in the same way during testing. However, when I use test project that
instruments the project containing my accessibility service, the
service never seems to start - I'm guessing because running under
instrumentation blocks the normal lifecycle?

Is anyone else dealing with this issue? Right now, I can write tests
without instrumentation - basically I have a test project that moves
between some test screens. I start my accessibility service
separately and query it through an external interface. However, if
possible I'd like a way to be able to run tests in the same process as
my accessibility service and have things still work as expected.

[android-developers] Testing in-app billing

2012-06-28 Thread adrian del campo
Hi,

I'm creating a simple library to manage in-app billing from our apps. I
have tested everything with the static test products from google and it
seems to work fine. The problem is that when I try to buy a real product
using a test account google play is asking me for a credit card even
without publishing the application.

Is there any way to test in-app billing with real products without having
to pay? For example a fake credit card or something similar?

[android-developers] Testing In-app billing

2012-09-29 Thread Thomas Bouron
Hi there!

I try to implement In-app billing in my app. So far, my implementation is
going well and i would to test it with my real product ID.
But I have a doubt about how to do it:

My app is currently active and published on Google Play. My In-app billing
implementation will be a part of the next update. The documentation says
that:

You do not need to publish your application to do end-to-end testing. You
> only need to upload your application as a draft application to perform
> end-to-end testing.
>

Ok but as my app is already published, I cannot create another one with the
same package name and save it as a draft.

So my question is: Can I upload the new version of my app (with In-app
billing implementation), leave it as "desactivate" and test it In-app
billing successfully? Or do I must rename the main package and create a new
draft application?

Thanks!

[android-developers] Testing `onActivityResult()` with JUnit

2012-10-29 Thread codeguru
As a watered down example, say I have an activity, called
StartActivityForResult, with a button which launches ChildActivty:

private View.OnClickListener onStart = new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View view) {
Intent intent = new Intent(StartActivityForResult.this,
ChildActivity.class);

StartActivityForResult.this.startActivityForResult(intent,
R.id.child_request);
} };

StartActivityForResult has the following `onActivityResult()` method:

@Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent
data) {
int result =
data.getIntExtra(StartActivityForResult.this.getString(R.string.result), -1);
String msg = "requestCode=" + requestCode + ", resultCode=" +
resultCode + ", result=" + result;
Toast.makeText(this, msg, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}

Now I want to write a JUnit test to make sure that a result is correctly
handled by this method. My first attempt is something like this:

@UiThreadTest
public void testStartButtonOnClick() {
Assert.assertTrue(this.startButton.performClick());

Instrumentation.ActivityResult result = new
Instrumentation.ActivityResult(Activity.RESULT_OK, null);
Assert.assertNotNull(result);

Instrumentation.ActivityMonitor am = new
Instrumentation.ActivityMonitor(ChildActivity.class.getName(), result, true);
Assert.assertNotNull(am);

Activity childActivity =
this.getInstrumentation().waitForMonitorWithTimeout(am, TIME_OUT);
Assert.assertNotNull(childActivity);

Assert.fail("How do I check that StartActivityForResult correctly
handles the returned result?");}

This has two problems. First the call to `performClick()` doesn't seem to call
my `onClick` handler. Also, I need access to the values that I normally get as
parameters to `onActivityResult()`. I'm very new to Android development.
However, it seems like this would be a common occurrence in many apps. How do I
go about fixing my test so that I can ensure that my Activity class behaves
correctly?

No, it's wrong way. For example I can live in Canada, have credit card with
canadian dollars and speak Chinese (and switch device locale to Chinese).
Currency of your payment method will override your locale.

You need to clarify your question. What is "currency of your payment
method"? What payment method? What does a Canadian credit card have to do
with speaking Chinese? What are you trying to do?

Re: [android-developers] Testing local currencies

2016-05-13 Thread Александр Метельский
Yes, I think you're right and I need to clarify my question.
Currency of the payment method in my example is currency of credit card
(CAD), payment method is something defined here -
http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/articles/191995-image/Now-you-can-add-a-payment-method-by-tapping-on-the-corresponding-button..jpg

I was trying to say that payment method and locale are completely
independent things, so changing device locale will not affect payment
method currency.
My question is - how android developer located in country X with local
currency Y can test in app billing with local currency for non X contries,
I mean this dialog -

[android-developers] Testing licensing on emulator.

2010-10-05 Thread MB
Hi,

I am testing lvl using the sample application (after changing package
name and uploading the apk). But it always returns 'Licensed' on the
emulator even though I've set the test response to 'Not Licensed'.

The following thread indicates that LVL cannot be tested with draft
applications and will always return 'Licensed'. So how does one test
LVL on the emulator? I am sure something as basic as this must be
supported.

But I am unable to figure out how to do it. I would really appreciate
any pointers regarding this. I've wasted quite a bit of time on this
poring over the licensing doc and other threads.

[android-developers] Testing e CodeCoverage report

2010-06-23 Thread sirvalerius
hi guys i'm tryng to do some testing in my adroid application,

I've set-up my project in eclipse and I can successfoully run my code.
I've alredy written some JUnit test cases, now I'm tryng to generate a
code coverage report. However it seems that there are different ways
to accomplish this and the documantation is not very clear.

Can someone tell me what's the best solution considering that I've all
my code in eclipse?
What steps do I need to take to get the reports.

(I've seen some posts about EMMA but the whole thing seems hackish and
I'm not sure how it works when with eclipse, i.e. when the project is
rebuilt).

Thank you very much,
Regards

[android-developers] Testing with Activity Monitor

2011-04-11 Thread Brian Phagan
I am trying to write unit tests for my application. I have a button
that initiates a call, and to test it I am trying to use an Activity
Monitor to block the call, but for some reason the call is allowed to
execute, causing the test to fail. My test case is written as
follows:

public void test2Launches() {
Instrumentation instr = getInstrumentation();
IntentFilter callFilter = new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_CALL);
Instrumentation.ActivityMonitor monitor =
instr.addMonitor(callFilter, null, true);
mActivity.runOnUiThread(
new Runnable() {

public void run() {
mCallButton.requestFocus();

}
}
);
this.sendKeys(KeyEvent.KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER);
assertEquals(1, monitor.getHits());
}

Any help on why this isn't working would be appreciated.

[android-developers] Testing a possible localisation issue?

2009-03-21 Thread Al Sutton

I've got a simple expenses program which I've received two crash reports
that I can't reproduce for the life of me. One user is German, one is
Austrian, so I'm wondering if there is something about the German
localisation which is causing a problem.

If anyone has a German G1 and would be willing to help me test the
theory my app can be downloaded from;

http://andappstore.com/AndroidPhoneApplications/apps/66602

or via the market (search for Funky Expenses). Both reports have come
from users who downloaded via Market, so I may be something to do with that.

The crash apparently happens when you try to add the first account
(you'll see an account list screen. Click on the plus in the top right
and/or use the menu).

Thanks in advance to anyone with a German G1 who is willing to try this
out, and a logcat dump would be great.

Al.

[android-developers] Testing on every possible device

2009-11-12 Thread SoftwareForMe.com
We have many phones, but we don't--and probably never will--have all of
them.

It's frustrating that some phones cannot see our apps in the market, and
we'd like to know which phones those are.

We'd like to have a simple way to have our app tested on each phone, but at
this point there's no easy way to do that.

My question is: what would we as developers be willing to do to get these
needs met? Is there enough demand for someone to buy all possible Android
devices and charge a nominal fee for these services?

We would pay a small fee to have out app accessed and downloaded on all
phones--this would give us a report of which phones could access our app. We
would pay a fee to have a step-by-step test ran on each possible device so
we could know it worked on that device, at least minimally.

What about the rest of you? Can we encourage someone to provide us this
service?

Re: [android-developers] Testing In-app billing

2012-09-30 Thread John Coryat
The most important thing in testing is that the same version code has to be
uploaded to the Play store (but not activated) as you are testing with. If
you make changes to your test app, don't update the version code or you'll
have problems with in-app billing. Once you're ready to publish, you'll
have to update your version code before you can upload the final version.

 Yes, you can. Upload it but don't "Activate" it, I believe.

Re: [android-developers] Testing In-app billing

2012-10-02 Thread Kostya Vasilyev
The "charge" button is grey, because Andorid purchased are charged
automatically.

"refund" will become available as the funds are actually transferred from
your credit card to your developer account (two-three days, I believe).

And yes, it's confusing - Google Checkout and Google Play are connected
with bubble gum and glue sticks.

Re: [android-developers] Testing In-app billing

2012-10-02 Thread John Coryat
You can also cancel an order before the funds are transfered. If you do
that, there is no "refund" to the consumer nor a credit to your account as
the transaction never completes. This results in a purchasestate of 1 being
sent to your server if you're using unmanaged items.

Re: [android-developers] Testing In-app billing

2012-10-02 Thread Thomas Bouron
Ok, thanks for the update.

I have another related question to in-app billing. Everything works well
now but I would like to know how my product ID is managed for me (developer
account). I mean, I have only one "managed" product published, it's a
"features pack" for my application. Now, there are two scenarios:

   - For my test account, it works as expected. I can buy the "features
   pack" and as his type is managed, it's restore properly when I
   uninstall/install again my application (through the restoreTransaction).
   - For me (ie developer account), I cannot buy the feature pack. This
   behavior is written on the documentation provided by Google but I assumed
   that the product should directly be assigned / marked as bought by Google
   Play for my me (ie developer account). It seems that it's not the case.
   Event if I uninstall/install again my application, the restoreTransaction
   returns me nothing.

So how can i set my product to "PURCHASED" state for my Developer account?

Just create another account and use that to buy your feature pack. That's
what everyone does.

We use unmanaged items so I cannot answer anything about managed item
behavior.

If your intent is to be able to use your app's premium feature pack
yourself, why not add one line of code that stores the purchase state as
"activated", then run it on your personal device?

Don't forget to remove this before building for uploading to Market :)

Re: [android-developers] Testing In-app billing

2012-10-03 Thread Thomas Bouron
Actually, I initially created my Developer account with my personal Google
account. I created one month after another Google account dedicated to this.
Yesterday, I asked to Google to change my sign-in account as described here
(
http://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=139626)
and
it was fast! The developer account is already switched and i can now buy my
product from my personal account (the first one on my phone)

So thanks everyone, everything works great now!

As for uploading, if it shows up in Google Play, it was uploaded correctly.
As for signing, if you can install and run the app locally (the same copy
you uploaded), then you should be fine.

[android-developers] Testing Android applications using JPF

2010-04-13 Thread Amruta Gokhale
Hello,

If one wants to model check or verify an android application, then how
to invoke the application under the model checker tool?

I am trying to test a sample android application using another tool,
namely, Java Path Finder(JPF), which is a open source model checker
for verifying programs and detecting errors in the program. (http://
babelfish.arc.nasa.gov/trac/jpf). What JPF does is that it explores
all the "interesting" paths of execution of a program, and checks
whether taking any of those paths would produce an error. To be able
to test a program in JPF, the program must be stand-alone program
having a "main" method.

Since I cannot run an android application as a stand-alone program, I
need to have another program that calls the application. I am not sure
how this can be done.

I read that one can invoke an android application by calling
startActivity() on the right intent, but this is possible only for
applications that interact with other applications. (Also,
startActivity can't be called from the static context of a "main"
method.) Is there any way to call any application (even those that do
not interact with other applications) from a stand-alone java program?
Or in other words, is it possible to start running an application
other than on an emulator?

The only way, I know of, to run an application is via the emulator. So
the only way to verify an application would be first running the
emulator in the model checker. But this complicates the verification,
since the model checker would first verify the emulator code. However,
the real goal is much simpler - verify a single android application. I
hope there is a simpler way to do this.

I am new to Android, and would really appreciate any suggestions
offered.

Thank you,
Amruta

PS: I had posted this query on Android Beginners group, but due to
lack of any response, I am re-posting here.

[android-developers] Testing OS customizations in emulator

2010-09-11 Thread mathijs
Hi,

We recently launched an update to our app in which we skinned the
button background colors lighter than the default theme. Only through
bad user comments we found out that the Droid X & Droid 2 have a
default theme with dark buttons and white text, so the white text
became unreadable on our lighter buttons.
As we're in Europe, we don't have access to either a Droid X or Droid
2 to test, and we haven't found out how we can set the emulator to
emulate how our app would look on those phones.

The UI of android apps becomes more and more important because users
don't like an app to be the default black theme anymore. Are there any
tools planned to help developers make sure their apps are usable on
all customized versions of Android that are out there?

Best regards,

Mathijs / AppBrain team

[android-developers] testing NDK on HTC Magic

2010-12-09 Thread Alexander
Hello everybody.

I'm trying to port an app using NDK in order to be capable of reusing
the C code of the application.

starting to work with the libs, i tested "bitmap-plasma" from the
sample projs and i'ts working OK
in the emulator (target 2.2), but when uploaded to the device (HTC
Magic. system. 1.5) the debugger
gives exception saying the native lib was not loaded.
I'm using Eclipse for the android proj. and compiling the native code
with cygwin make. the ndk-version is r4.

i also tried the "hellojni" projects and that one works fine on the
device, so i'm thinking maybe there is some parameter in
bitmap-plasma that is causing problems??

please any help on what is causing this and how can i fix it. Thank
you very much!.

[android-developers] Testing activity which uses Intent.CATEGORY_INFO

2010-06-07 Thread Al
I have an app I'd like to publish on the market. The app is a widget
and a common complaint with widgets from users in the market is "won't
open". Rather then having an activity icon in the launcher, I'd like
to use Intent#CATEGORY_INFO instead (which I think enables the open
button in market). According to the docs, this category
"
Provides information about the package it is in; typically used if a
package does not contain a CATEGORY_LAUNCHER to provide a front-door
to the user without having to be shown in the all apps list. "

How can I launch access an activity which filters for this category? I
could just change to the default and have the icon show in launcher
but I'd like to test this category to make sure it works fine.

[android-developers] Testing Low Memory and onDestroy

2010-06-23 Thread Ayyrk
Testing onDestroy.

Q: does using a lot of RAM in one application always lead to onDestroy
being called on Activities in other applications?

To try and figure this out I created two separately installed
applications. The first just logs its lifecycle transitions and the
second allocates a chunk of memory each time you press a button.

What I saw was the second application eventually suffered a fatal Out
Of Memory Error force close. The onDestroy method was not called on
the first logging application and when I switched back to it onResume
was called.

My conclusion is that using a lot of memory in a single application
will lead to a fatal Out Of Memory Error without onDestroy first being
called on Activities in other applications. The documentation left me
expecting an onDestroy on the logging application since the foreground
application was trying to allocate more memory.

Does the above sound right? What’s a good way to test the onCreate/
onDestroy lifecycle methods as they relate to low memory?

[android-developers] Testing ContentProvider with sample data

2011-04-17 Thread Witold IGMail[witold.szymaniak]

Hello,
I want to test ContentProvider that serves data from sqlite database.
How can I initialize ContentProvider using ProviderTestCase2 that it
would read data from certain database file?
My first idea was to add test.db to project assets and in
ProviderTestCase2.setUp()

copy it to location where ContentProvider expectes to find db file.
Unfortunately creating ContentProvider with IsolatedContext or
MockContext modifies
database location so it changes to test.oldname.db and I observed that
it recreates it

before each test (clears all data).

Best regards,
   Witek

No, it's because this forum runs on Google Groups. When posting assume it

Are the devices you want to test on device anywhere?

You can rent a device virtually for approximately $20 bux a hour, this is a
great way to quickly make sure that your app works on a phone.

http://www.deviceanywhere.com/

After 200 to 300 bux, it's probably worth buying the phones to keep in
house.

[android-developers] Testing GPS based applications - Phone choice

2009-05-11 Thread siau...@gmail.com

Hello Everyone,

I'd like some feedback from your experiences on the best option to
test GPS based applications.

I've been developing apps and in the middle of this will have to ship
out to Afghanistan for a 1 year tour. Perfect opportunity to
concentrate on the apps in the down-time (nothing to do stuck on a
base most of the time in a 10x15 shippping container). This is bad
(with bad being a relative term) from the standpoint that there are no
"data" plans in Afghanistan for GSM phones. I can get GSM service but
no "data" plans.

If i buy a Android OS phone I'm concerned about how I can update it
with new firmware and load apps. I will have wifi access, but from
what I've read this will not enable a "push" of the new firmware
update to the phone as if I was with T-Mobile. Any suggestions on
what phone i should buy and how to "test' my applications where I can
update my firmware and load my apps onto the phone?

[android-developers] testing/understanding weak and strong pointers

course, one needs to spend some time with RefBase.h and RefBase.cpp to
really appreciate what's going on behind the scene. I'm reserving the
explanations for some other day :)
