Hello. Let’s say, if terminology not easily understood, then English is
better. What people say does not immediately matter IMHO.

Agreed.

this is exactly why I initially sent this email.

after exchanging all those emails,
I have concluded that I will prioritize the use of formal Bangla, but
for technical terms, I will adopt the commonly used words.
the Bangla Academy's handling of technical terms is ineffective and, at
best, confusing. they just straight up explain the words in the
dictionary most of the time rather than giving a single word.

and most probably, I will not be using any tools.
maybe some google translate because it at least somewhat works...

have a nice day.

Hi,

that's good practise! OTOH a good arguments against a translation are
"in Bangla, most people say", "not in real life".

This IMO is a really important advice, already when not translating into
different languages. If foo e.g. calls it "panel" then a Wiki related to
foo shouldn't name it "taskbar", even if a lot of people might use the
term "taskbar".

Ralf

Hi,

in this case, it might make sense to see if there are already common
translations for comparable "things" on other operating systems,
Android, Windows, iOS, etc.

Ralf

Hi, https://translatewiki.net/ appears to have a bangla team, see

Good. This is the right course of action.

I intended to suggest to take inspiration from other Bangla translations
of free, open-source software. It is sad however that from what you
say, it appears there are none/few. translationproject.org should have
a Bangla team but there is none.

In general, try to convey the information in a way useful to Bengali
readers. Do *not necessarily* translate literally, like machine
translations would.

Best wishes,
Florian

I will look into those sources.
as far as I remember, they are just bad machine translation. (I mean
even grammar doesn't make any sense).
Only Android had somewhat of an usable translation... but no one uses
those...

even tho, Bengali is the seventh most spoken language,
online, it's only limited to facebook, youtube, and some news sites...

I will try to find as much as possible about translating to Bangla, then
make up my mind about how to translate.

thanks a lot and have a nice day.

I have the official dictionary from Bangla Academy, I will use it then.
at first, I didn't even think about them because they don't have the
best reputation... whatever
I will try to be as formal as the schoolbooks. as far as I know, those
are vetted by Bangla Academy.

sorry, but I failed to find Debian's or genome's Bangla documentation or
things like that. the best Bangla docs I can find is the wikipedia.

sorry, I have no clue about that.
I'm new to translating...

have a nice day.
and if you can, please give me some advice.

Hello zoorat, I suggest to follow authorities like the Académie
Française. Wikipedia claims Bangla has a Bangla Academy. What would
they say? When I translate to German, I do prefer German words, when
there’s no good argument against it. The terminology of Debian’s or
GNOME’s or other translations is also relevant. I do not find a Bangla
team on though.
