 Hii,

Can you help me with debugging what's wrong with my arches setup?

I have created a gist of what happens when i run install_dependencies.sh

 https://gist.github.com/hackerutsav/10949412

Also i ran ubuntu precise setup before this command.

 Thanks :)

[Arches] Re: Handling complex geometries - maybe 3D?

2014-03-18 Thread Utsav

Hiii

I have been reading a lot to get a better understanding of handling
complex geometries.

As we can see from the Arches
developmenthttp://archesproject.org/development/link, Arches is a stack of
PostGIS,Geoserver,ExtJS and Openlayers.

This Architecture http://i.imgur.com/Ev7uWSJ.png will be best suited to
make a complete web app for handling complex geometries.

Briefly their functions will be:

Postgis: A geospatial database that makes it easy to process spatial
geometry data.Postgis has a whole lot of functions that make it easy to
support handling geometries and no other database can handle geometrical
data better.

Geoserver:This is a server which is made for handling map and spatial
information.

GeoWebCache : This makes it faster to load images by caching the map images

GeoExt + Openlayers + Extjs : This is the user interface for the browser
which is used for displaying and collecting user from the user.

Also i have uploaded my Proposal http://goo.gl/GtuU5u quite a long time
ago, which describes the intricacies of my idea.
Please provide some feedback.

About handling 3d objects,i did some research on that too,i found resource
materials to handle that

This link http://workshops.boundlessgeo.com/tutorial-lidar/ describes
quite intricately how we can enable 3d objects for the above architecture.

On the whole, this project seems quite exciting. :)

Re: [Arches] Re: Signing in

2014-03-07 Thread Utsav
I looked up Stonehenge from this url http://goo.gl/w8S2cj and it just
seems fascinating to me really how much more we can do with arches. :)

As i have set-up arches on my Ubuntu, i found out that Stonehenge has been
described vividly by arches and it looks great :)

It seems to me it would be a good idea to expand arches to set-up another
prehistoric monument.:)

I know this wouldn't be easy so i want to divide it into phases:

Phase 1: (Must do phase) The minimum i want to do with my project is that i
would want to make sure i have a new prehistoric monument with all it's
inventories available on arches.

Phase 2:(If time permits)This url http://goo.gl/w8S2cj i embedded above
in this post also has a street view available.Street view seems a
fascinating concept, you can have the actual experience of visiting a site
(i)if you use the google street view api(link http://goo.gl/uLrMN1) and
(ii)if you can upload panorama pics of the site.
So this may seem a little ambitious but if we are allowed to take a
panoramic view,it will make google street view possible and make our
project look so good.

All explained,i do need a prehistoric site to base my project on and i want
the forum to decide which site would be the best. :)

As i find out more about arches i will be asking more question about how

that we can learn so much about a site by examining it's ruins and then get

[Arches] Gsoc idea Expansion.

2014-03-04 Thread utsav kumar
Hi Guys,

This week has been become quite exciting as i have been
playing around with arches development version :) .I have arches up and
running on my ubuntu 12.04 with some bugs still to be patched.I skimmed
through the getty
newsletterhttp://www.getty.edu/conservation/publications_resources/newsletters/28_2/
 provided
by David Myers and i was able to understand the gist of arches development
cycle.I am really excited to be part of a community which hopes to preserve
our ancient cultures and heritages which has made us who we are today.I
have been talking a lot with robert gaston on irc and he helped me a lot
in setting up arches on my laptop.I am uploading my current workflow(setup
of my directories of arches) here .I searched for geospatial database
servers and i hope it involves best usage of algorithms as i take a course
on computer science from india which has a lot to do with algorithms and
for my college i and my friends made a project that used django to query
databse and display a webpage for it.I am really eager to get going and
expand ideas for arches gsoc.

 Thanks :)

I get really excited when i get to know organizations that help in
protecting our cultural heritage. It's a pity that the vast treasure of our

Hello all, ... and welcome in particular to those who have joined the
 Arches Discussion Forum recently.

This online group was initially set up for the project team, and has just
recently been opened up as the public, so some of us haven't met before.
How about we all share a bit of background, just like we would if we were
meeting in the real world? If that sounds good to you, reply to this thread
and share with the group some or all of the following:

- what is your interest in Arches?

- where in the world are you working?

and, just to make it a bit more fun,

- what can you see out of the window? Is there any heritage in your
view?

I look forward to getting to know everyone a bit better!
