Hii,

As i can understand, accepting geometries from user will be a complex task!

After taking in geometries from the user,i want to know

--how will geometries stored in arches db
--how can we query the stored geometry

Thanks :)

Hii!

It was nice to get to know how arches currently gets formed geometries from
the browser :)

Now, i will really dig into the codebase :)

Thanks :)

Re: [Arches] Re: Handling complex geometries - maybe 3D?

2014-03-19 Thread Adam Lodge
Utsav,

The most important component missing from your proposal are thoughts on the
front end tools that will allow users to enter and edit complex geometries.
You are right to point out that our backend architecture is already capable of
storing and validating geometries of any complexity - the real challenge here
is in building a UI that gives mere mortals a chance of actually digitizing
them.

Having some experience with desktop GIS tools like ArcGIS or Quantum GIS may
come in handy here because it will give you ideas of how manual capture is
handled in GIS desktop applications. The key will (again) be to not duplicate
the desktop GIS workflows - which are built for people with GIS in their job
title - but instead develop workflows that are possible for a non-GIS expert to
execute in a web browser.

Hi Utsav,
I really appreciate your enthusiasm for the Arches project, unfortunately
I'm not quite sure I understand your proposal clearly. Earlier it sounded
like you wanted to add a new prehistoric monument, but we're not really
looking to collect data as part of the GSoC. Our focus is on improving the
code base with additional functionality.
