plz upload the info of the album (complete details) and as u said, some of the tracks RAHMAN ROCKZ Hi Everyone, Last month I was shocked and surprised to see a CDin a platform shop. It had the following title: "Tamil Bhakthi Paadalgal by Rahman". (Meaning, Tamil Devotional Music by Rahman). It also had ARR's photo on it. I immediately got it (Rs.30 !!!). As soon as I entered home, without even removing my slippers, I switched on my Sony system and played the CD. Wow !!! What a quality !!!. It was definitely of ARR's quality. It was totally different from the conventional music played on the roads and loud speakers. I was happy that I saved revived such a beautiful album from the platform mud !!! I don't know when this album got released. Was it before Roja ??? Or after BaBa ??? No idea. But the quality says it is Rahman's. Just wanted to confirm with you guys, if anyone has any info on this. Also, is it possible to upload a couple of the tracks (as MP3) to files section??? (as everyone can share the joy, I experienced !!!). hi guys GOMZY is quite right here whatever he has written is true do not go to movie with high expectations but its worth watching for once songs are shown nicely but they were not requred RASIYA song is the main attraction here its picturised very very very very well other songs, such as main vari vari, holi re etc. are picturized quite well but there was no need of the songs or we can say ketan mehta could not creat the right situation for the songs I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY HERE in the CINEMA HALL i noticed that rahman's music could not attract the audience there are two reasons here 1. there was no need of the songs(that's ketan's fault) 2. rahman's music is too hard in this movie we all know that we need a few listenings to like rahman's music and the this album is one of the master pieces of rahman but a common audience have nothing to take with it, they did not like the songs what's the director's and producer's fault here? i myself is puzzled here me and i think all of the rahman's hard core fans want really hard music from him but the audience in the cinema wants light songs now what should rahman do? keep giving hard songs! or the songs which can be hit instantly! bye --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, gomtesh [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey guys. Also there wasn't much of background score except for a few samples here and there, good ones and the closing credit music was great.Overall a decent movie which should be watched. That's because the message is simple - though there were national leaders, political parties, freedom fighters and the common men who joined hands together to get back the reins of their very own motherland, the first person to have given a though towards was a lone man - MANGAL PANDEY. Take a bow Bobby Bedi [producer], Ketan Mehta [director], Farrukh Dhondy [writer] and Aamir Khan for coming up with this highly engrossing venture that could have had its fortunes tilted in either direction. Thankfully due to tout execution, excellent research and thoroughly convincing portrayal of the legend, 'Mangal Pandey' comes out from the history and fables as a flesh and blood character who could be just one of us. The movie catches your attention from the very first frame of the movie when Mangal Pandey's hanging by the army of East India Company is postponed due to backing out of a hangman. He stays on to live for a few more days and in the meanwhile his superior and friend Captain Gordon [Toby Stephens] takes the viewers a few years back in time. It was the time when Mangal, one of the many sepoys of the 5th company, 34th Native Infantry Regiment, Barrackpore, saved the life of Gordon in a fierce battle in Afghanistan, hence setting up the ground for strong friendship and loyalty. A friendship, that both of them thought would be everlasting, only to see it being challenged at a later time. Though Mangal was never happy with the aristocracies of the Company, he still tolerated them due to his loyalty for the army. Meanwhile the friendship between Mangal and Gordon continued to thicken with every passing day. From Gordon's own disgust with the functioning of the Company to his support for Mangal, to the saving of Jwala [Amisha Patel] who is about to be burnt as a 'sati' - everything contributed to a trusted relationship between the two young men. But introduction of controversial gun cartridges changed it all. Made of pig and cow fat, it was required to be chewed by the troops before use, hence causing widespread resentment amongst both Hindus and Muslims. The troops were ensured first by Colonel and then by Gordon himself that cartridges were free from any animal fat. But as soon as Mangal Pandey discovered that this was not truth, all hell broke loose. Mangal, who was the pioneer in believing the words of Gordon lost everything - his religion, trust and friendship. This is where Mangal Pandey rose as a rebellion. Under the leadership of Khan [Mukesh Tiwari] from Berhampore regiment, he and his fellow men gave the army their first setback when they refused to use the cartridges and in the process also rebelled to loot the arms and ammunition. The news of this rebellion spread all over the country with rulers like Nana Saheb, Tantia Tope, Bahadur Shah Zafar and Rani Laxmibai joining the first war of independence in 1857 that paved the way for the future! Ketan comes up with a great dramatic adaptation with painstakingly delicate details about the India of the 19th century. The town, its streets, culture, costumes, body langauge, language, untouchables, 'sati-pratha', celebrations, festivals, brothels, arms - everything has been detailed out exceptionally well that takes you back in time. The best part of the movie is that it never once sermonizes. Neither does it go overboard on the spirit of 'deshbhakti' or 'azaadi'. It talks to the point and raises one simple point about being united and to stop serving the oppressors. The script is fool proof for majority of the movie inspite of non-availability of a single source. Ditto for the screenplay that bounds you throughout the 3 hrs duration. Barring the song and dance sequences [Rasiya, Dekho Aayi Holi were completely avoidable] and a couple of romantic scenes, the movie completely engaging. Background music [A.R.Rehman] is apt for the movie as it enhances the appeal of dramatic scenes [which are aplenty]. The 'sutradhar' number 'Mangal Mangal' that comes in at the high points of the narrative etches in your memory forever. War sequences, especially the first one set in Afghanistan, have a grandeur appeal with good effort gone in understanding the arms, ammunitions and their sound. Himman Dhamija's cinematography is glossy and striking. Dialogues are fiery at a number of places with the best being reserved for Aamir and Toby. In fact, all the scenes with the two powerhouse performers on the screen work wonderfully well as they are high on drama and emotions. The maximum effort in the movie has gone into fleshing out the two principal characters

Hi Rawat, Hope you are fine. It is director choice/ skill that is being criticised in the above. MD gives a song asked by the director. How the director then uses the song, and where, that has nothing to do with MD. ARR could not have helped it in any way if holi song retarted the film unnecessarily. YOU HIT THE BULL'S EYE Holi song is more a failure of Javed Akhtar than of anyone else. Every word and figures of speech used in this song are ages old. LYRICS WERE MEANT TO BE AGES OLD. AROUND 150 YEARS OLD, TO BE APPROXIMATE AT THE LEAST. I haven't seen the film, but I think you meant that the Song lyrics should have been in sync with the language that the characters speak. If that had not been the case with this song, then you may be 150% right..! Or, as in your historic string of arguements around a month back, the lyrics were too much periody compared to the non-period music and so, they didnt mangal...oh sorry- mingle well giving the critics something to mangle with... There could be psychological reasons also. Normally people expect to see a serious, all-business type of personality for a larger than life hero like Mangal Pandey. Hence they could not digest him enjoying small pleasures like playing with colours in the comapny of gorgeous girls, all painted whimsically. YES! I DID EXPECT SUCH A THING BEFORE THE D-DAY (12TH). BUT NOW AFTER READING THE REVIEWS, I AM A BIT CONCERNED. I HOPE THE ENGLISH VERSION IS PROPERLY SCISSORED. Hope other members will themselves take some lessons from this and shall stop badmouthing members who give negative comments about ARR's future releases. I think the expectations are different. It is a different sounding ARR that we are hearing and I for one am trying to get used to the sound. And as I have mentioned, I refused to see it as bad. Although that was my first initial reaction to it on hearing both the two releases. the problem is: With these new experimentations of ARR, he is facing the resistance even from his own fans who are attuned to his ealier sounds. Maybe, a few words from ARR would have helped fans. If ARR speaks or writes about what is his plan or strategy about these new sounds, the fans would be able to see things in a wider perspective and will sure try to get used to the sounds the way you are doing. I think at the end of the day, both of us have one thing in common and that would be our undying support for ARR. Thank you so much for your reply. : ) count on me. However, I am extremely worried, how the current flood of negative comments might be affecting ARR who is a very sentimental and soft person. Ketan Mehta has willfully ignored this piece of wisdom and proceeded with a checklist that attempts to please the three segments of his target audiences; the brown front bencher, a particular class of desi film reviewer, and the white critic. Consider the feature set that perpetuated the stereotypes about India, those that were clearly intended for the pinot noir drinking, pipe-smoking Caucasian film critic who purports to explain Bollywood to his countrymen; * Untouchability - check * Astrology and superstition - check * Ignorance of technology - check * Sati (Suttee) - check * Drugs - check * Slavery - check * A fair-playing-minority-in-his-own-counrty White man - check * Snake charmer - err...maybe, a cobra will do - check * Nautch girls - check * Colorful elephants - check Mehta did not forget the JNU-educated jholi carrying film reviewer. In addition to the above, he has ticked off the following: * Bash free market economics - check * Muslim leader/friend - check * Sympathy for China - check * Opposition to Maharajahs - check Now the front bencher: * Masochistic dialogue - check * Item number - check * Holi song - check * Village fairs - check And on on, ad nauseum. The result is a bhel-puri that is laughable. I will not spend too much time reviewing a dud. Suffice to say that Aamir Khan, an artiste whom I admire, has taken himself too seriously for this light hearted Manmohan Desai type flick. It is presumably a film about Mangal Pandey. Apart from the name of the main character and one or two incidents, the whole film is a work of fiction. It speaks volumes for the lack of courage exhibited by Mehta in not even attempting to make a serious film. He should've seen Junoon. He would've learnt something. Cheers Arun Simha Yahoo!
