To start with.. Thank you very much for who ever who provided the link to mp3s...Sure, no need to say here that I will buy the CD.. Buy, here is my doubt...is the Music really by ARR or by Michel Dhonna( Mi Dh) Oh..Don't pounce on me...I love this track...but some how feel that this Mi. Dh would have remastered this ARR's greatest sound track by his own admission.. See, the Tunes are out of the world...flows like water over rocks...what a twist and turns...but watch the BGM...ARR would have made BGM also sound out of the world...but here...you feel that you are hearing some thing like a first copy which are usually given to producers before being reworked and mixed... Why am I saying this??? Because, Mi Dh once in an interview said that he and DM decided to remove the portions of music (read BGM) which sounded to synthesized and he added all acoustic instrument in those place... Now our only hope is..Vijay, rano and Mathew..who can talk to ARR and get to know about the true picture.. Do not doubt that I dislike the music...I some how feel that ARR would not have stopped with giving this minimal BGM to some extraordinary tunes.. What do you all feel.?? Hey Arijit, I won't get angry with you...Probably you do not know me or probably you have not understood what I wanted to say... The composition is worth a NA no doubt...but my opinion is like this..having known ARR right from the first time I head Chinna Chinna Aasai on August 15th 1992 over DD oliyum Oliyum, I feel that ARR wouldn't have just stopped with this BGM...I mean..I feel..that his could have been even better.. Okay I wrote my mail when I listened to the tracks for the first time. By the time I am writing this mail I have already listened to it 5 times and yes, I am hooked to itnot that I did not realize the brilliance in the composition in the first time itself, but now I can visualize how DM would have constructed Varnasi and how these songs would have suited the sun set at the banks of the Ganges.. But I still stand by what I have doubted.if Mi Dh had done even a slightest modification with ARR's original..I will be the most disappointed person in the world...I want to hear Water for ARR and ARR only...I don't care even a bit of Donna or anybody. Thanx for replyin... Miyan ki Todi is derived from the Todi thaat n very close to Gujari Todi. Gujari Todi omits Pancham (Pa) while Miyan ki Todi has a strong Pa. Bilaskhani Todi is a creation of Miyan Tansen's son Bilaskhan. Its supposed to be created at the death of Miyan Tansen when Bilaskhan was mourning. The swaras r similar to Bhairavi...though the movement is different. Bilaskhani Todi goes like Sa Re Ga Pa Dha Ni Dha Ma Ga Re Ga Re Sa (Re,Ga Dha,Ni all komal). Hope this clears ur doubt... [arr] ARR's period films - Shades of the Golden Era
As I listen to the song Piya Ho, for some reason, the style of singing, the minimal use of instruments, and the raaga similarity reminded me of the song Mohe Bhool Gaye Saawaria from the movie Baiju Bawra, which was released back in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Rahman's work in period films I find so often appropriately echos the styles and sounds of the songs of the golden era in a very genuine manner. I once read that Rahman admired the music of Naushaad, and I can definitely hear traces of Naushaad's influence on Rahman's music from Zubeidaa, Bose, Water, Mangal Pandey, and Lagaan. The song, Desh Ki Mitti from Bose is another example of the strong Golden Era of music in Hindi films. Unfortunately, so many of these beautiful compositions do not get the exposure and marketing they deserve. Many fans of great music, who are not familar with Rahman, are really missing out. Rahman apart from other celebrities it is how he cringes when bombarded with fulsome praise. Can I get away from the back door please? said he self-deprecatingly when all the singers at a star-studded press conference chose to say why he was so special to each, here on Friday. Rahman is here for the much-awaited show organised by India Classic Arts (ICA) on Saturday. The hottest rapper on the block, Blaaze, put it this way: I don't know about my music, but after meeting Rahman, I've become a far superior human being. He's been there in my life's ups and lows and has always kept my faith in god alive. Nobody goes out of his way, particularly someone of his stature, to tell you that tomorrow will surely be a brighter morning. While seasoned stars Hariharan and Chitra, who've known him from his Roja days, admitted to how he fills them with a sense of pride, the new singers such as Kailash Kher and Madhushree said no music director gives them liberty to improvise as Rahman does. The reticent Rahman himself characteristically didn't say much, but sent up prayers: Let there be no rain tomorrow. With all the equipment for the show having arrived, hectic preparations are on for the first ever Rahman concert in Bangalore.
