In stead of these directors, I am dreaming about Rahman's participation with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Cheran, and the veteran director Vishwanthan in hindi, tamil, and telugu respectively. These people have the ability to bring the best out of rahman. 3 years back in an interview, Cheran himself told his desire to work with rahman. If I had an opportunity to work with a genius like rahman, it will increase my value of the movie. He will be taking care of his job, so that I can feel a little bit free regarding music deparment. Let me put it this way -- Rahman is the king of music. However, his music does not have the same 'hummability' and 'road' factor that can get his music blasting on the Delhi's auto rickshaws and Agra's chaiwalas. Before, you swear at me, let me clarify -- I love Rahman's music. But, you've gotta admit -- for an average Indian -- its easier to hum 'Kuch kuch hota hai' than 'ishq bina'. That is a good point, though look what ARR has done for Shankar's films in the South. He's definitely reached the masses with tracks like Azhagana Ratchasiye, Mukkala Muqabla, etc. But Shankar, for all his faults, has much more imagination in his films and song situations than the Chopras and Karan Johar. They'd probably be the weak link in the creative chain. I too was wondering why YRF never used ARR instead of opting for people like Jatin-Lalit, who produce catchy but mediocre music. Chandralekha from Thiruda Thiruda (1993) still sounds fresh, but listen to DDLJ or DTPH today and it sounds incredibly dated.
