It is the same case in Tamil also this year, very ordinary songs were 
rated on top of Ah Aah. In Sun TV's year end count down, Ah Aah was 
as at 9th place, way behind songs in movies like Tirupachi and a dumb 
Sarath Kumar movie (can't even remember the name).

RDB title track maybe a bhangra winner for ARR, but not the best
bhangra song ever. There are better ones, and I am not undermining
ARR's ability to create the quintessential bhangra beat. I pray that HE
DOES NOT get down to that level. ARR should concentrate in creating
rhythms that stir the soul. (That does not mean bhangra does not stir
the soul, it does not stir my soul. Thats all!)

It takes a lot of time for any person to appreciate Khalbali. Like many
eminent physicists noted in their time - there is beauty even in chaos.
Khalbali is like that. At the first go, it would sound drifted, I may
even add mildly chaotic. But once you begin to notice the beauty in its
recesses, its then that it hits you. Strong arabic flavor and shifting
styles can unsettle you, but that is only till you begin settling down
with the music. (Restful peace within chaos).

Claiming that nobody can create a percussion like Khalbali may
discredit the scores of great music composers from North Africa and
Middle East. There are many true geniuses sitting there. If you
remember the hit song "Didi Didi" from Khaled, you might not remember
his other great song "El Arbi". The second song was barely played in
comparison the first song. I simply loved the "El Arbi" song -
primarily because it had much more rhythm, sound space and percussion.
"Didi Didi", like "Paatshaala", is a foot tapping number. Finds favour
with the populace immediately. To truly appreciate musical creation, we
should move up with ARR... from generic appreciation to critical
aficionados.

I like playing the "Paatshaala" song in my car. Blaring it in my car
speakers and driving it on long stretches gives a good feel. Whereas I
do not play that song at my home. I play "Tu Bin Bataye" and "Luke
Chuppi" .. and virtual effect that my system creates is just out of
this world.

At the cost of worshipping our idol, we should not discredit many other greats. That is what I sincerely feel.

Hey Anujit,

I feel your pain buddy.  I don't get it either.  I too also feel 
that Rahman's songs are discriminated these days at times.  It 
sounds irrational, but somehow, I feel it's true to some extent.  
Regardless of sales, however, Rahman is still regarded at the number 
one MD in India.  No Himesh or Aadesh can take that away from him.  

But, yes, I wish his sales and popularity figures could be addressed.

Dear friends and fellow ARR fans,

It IS a great celebration for us and other fans of ARR sir on his
birthday. Indiaglitz has come out with a commendable collage of the
connoisseur's delights of ARR sir's music punctuating nicely with good
admirers of ARR - however I felt the list must have included Mani Sir,
Ashutosh..as they are in the same wavelength.

Belated wishes ARR and his kid too - quite a rare occassion :) 
( I am lukcy like so many of us to hear and appreciate brilliant music

actually, i made the clip in a hurry due to time constraints. i wanted
to share something special for our genius. i was very much moved by the
"anbe aaruyirae" initial programming done to the vocals of the songs.
infact, after hearing ur musical bit, i mailed u and then i thought
what if i too make a contribution to the group. so, i just played with
the clips that i had. 

i agree with what u said abt video and audio editing. i m sure that u can venture a lot with video editing with ur talent.

Thesituation just didnt sink in and I was nt even able listen to what myfriends were speaking on the way to the Airport!Well, I could nt picturise the prospect of meeting him in such a closerange until he actually emerged from the crowds in the Delta Airlines'Arrival Terminal. He offered a friendly hand shake n said "Hello". Iwas shaken... Here was my Idol...
 A.R.Rahman. Could this be true?! Iwas so shaken that my mind went numb. I dont even know if Ireciprocated to his greeting!I was helping him get his luggage while the others went to get thevan. I was too scared to speak anything. That was when he asked me aquestion, "So, are you a music student?". I replied saying that I washere to do my MS. He asked, "Where r u from?" I said that I was fromAndhra but have stayed all my life in Chennai. This is when I startedspeaking on my own. My dad is himself from the Film Industry. He was aBass guitarist to be precise and had worked for more than 25 years.Apparently, he had also worked with A.R.Rahman while he was akey-board player. When I asked Rahman sir if he remembered my dad, heimmediately recognised n said "Oh, are you his son? What is your daddoing now? Where is he? Do u have any brothers or sisters?" etc...After listening to my replies, he asked me if I was into Music. I
 waslike "Not really, Have learnt a bit if guitar. Thats it. Dad pushed usall into studies." By this time, my friends brought the van. We got into it and there wassome general talk going when he suddenly said to me gesturing aguitar, "Take the guitar and learn it. It will be in your blood. Younever know!". I was both surprised and humbled with the kind ofstatement he made. Here was the most recognised face of Indian MusicIndustry worrying about the musical interests of a literal "nobody",with the kind of enthusiasm seen in a school kid. Should I say thisportrayed his commitment to Music or was it just part of hisdown-to-earth nature? You guys decide...I had so many questions to ask regarding his Music, the way he makesit, etc. But I refrained from these because he looked pretty tiredafter a long flight from Chennai. We were also told by our prof to notdisturb him with too many questions, taking pictures or
 autographs. Wethen had conversations related to various topics. He repeatedly keptasking us when the sun-set was in this part of the world. He wasworried about carrying out his daily practices before the prescribedtime... an extremely religious man that he is. I guess Rahman sirenjoyed the prospect of not being treated as a celebrity. He enjoyedlooking at the country-side, not being bothered by on-lookers fromneighbouring vehicles. For a moment, it was like he was just anotherindividual, sitting next to me in the van!! I even asked him whatmobile phone he carried... It was a Sony-Ericsson. That whole hour oftravel was unbelievable and undoubtedly the best time of my life.After dropping him at the Guest-House, we went back to our places. Iwas visibly on cloud nine, still not being able to come to terms withthe situation. Was it A.R.Rahman whom I just met?! I have heardstories about him being extremely humble. But, believe
 me... the wayhe carried out himself was simply amazing, standing testimonial tothat fact. It is a lesson which everyone of us should impart. hey,
   not the best of reviews i gotta say. Don't think he listened to 
the soundtrack lot of time before writing the review. "coz I 
think "Rang De Basanti" the title track is the Bhangra winner for Sir 
ARR. Also Tu bin bataye, paathshaala(both), khalbali r truly genious 
esp. Khalbali i don't think any other MD can do that kinda 
percussion!! Still everybody has his own point of view!!

would nt feel too bored during the hour long journey back! Thesituation just didnt sink in and I was nt even able listen to what myfriends were speaking on the way to the Airport!Well, I could nt picturise the prospect of meeting him in such a close
range until he actually emerged from the crowds in the Delta Airlines'Arrival Terminal. He offered a friendly hand shake n said "Hello". Iwas shaken... Here was my Idol... A.R.Rahman. Could this be true?! I
was so shaken that my mind went numb. I dont even know if Ireciprocated to his greeting!I was helping him get his luggage while the others went to get thevan. I was too scared to speak anything. That was when he asked me a
question, "So, are you a music student?". I replied saying that I washere to do my MS. He asked, "Where r u from?" I said that I was fromAndhra but have stayed all my life in Chennai. This is when I started
speaking on my own. My dad is himself from the Film Industry. He was aBass guitarist to be precise and had worked for more than 25 years.Apparently, he had also worked with A.R.Rahman while he was akey-board player. When I asked Rahman sir if he remembered my dad, he
immediately recognised n said "Oh, are you his son? What is your daddoing now? Where is he? Do u have any brothers or sisters?" etc...After listening to my replies, he asked me if I was into Music. I was
like "Not really, Have learnt a bit if guitar. Thats it. Dad pushed usall into studies."By this time, my friends brought the van. We got into it and there wassome general talk going when he suddenly said to me gesturing a
guitar, "Take the guitar and learn it. It will be in your blood. Younever know!". I was both surprised and humbled with the kind ofstatement he made. Here was the most recognised face of Indian Music
Industry worrying about the musical interests of a literal "nobody",with the kind of enthusiasm seen in a school kid. Should I say thisportrayed his commitment to Music or was it just part of his
down-to-earth nature? You guys decide...I had so many questions to ask regarding his Music, the way he makesit, etc. But I refrained from these because he looked pretty tiredafter a long flight from Chennai. We were also told by our prof to not
disturb him with too many questions, taking pictures or autographs. Wethen had conversations related to various topics. He repeatedly keptasking us when the sun-set was in this part of the world. He wasworried about carrying out his daily practices before the prescribed
time... an extremely religious man that he is. I guess Rahman sirenjoyed the prospect of not being treated as a celebrity. He enjoyedlooking at the country-side, not being bothered by on-lookers fromneighbouring vehicles. For a moment, it was like he was just another
individual, sitting next to me in the van!! I even asked him whatmobile phone he carried... It was a Sony-Ericsson.  That whole hour oftravel was unbelievable and undoubtedly the best time of my life.After dropping him at the Guest-House, we went back to our places. I
was visibly on cloud nine, still not being able to come to terms withthe situation. Was it A.R.Rahman whom I just met?! I have heardstories about him being extremely humble. But, believe me... the wayhe carried out himself was simply amazing, standing testimonial to
that fact. It is a lesson which everyone of us should impart.I was 8 years old when I first listened to A.R.Rahman's music... itwas the song Kadhal Rojave, from the movie Roja, being screened on TV.I was so deeply moved, for an 8 year old, by the kind of sound that
filled the room. In the background, I heard my dad's voice telling mymom, "That is Di

Id like to thank all of you and Gops who took the time out to post messages and compile it in one document. This goes to a r r immediately from our group!  spoke to a r r for along time the other day on the phone. He was transiting bombay en route to his pilgrimage and then on to Torontohe spoke about a song that he had just finished mixing for Sivaji  Good news on its way soon...Godfather is due by this month end or feb first week maximum but with its release a whole new league of music distribution and production will set rolling.  for someone who posted about a r rs trip to miami, the news is that a r r will perform there later this year... Hi all,
i really have a serious doubt and would like to ask the viewpoints 
of the esteemed members of this group.
it has been nearly 3 weeks that RDB released but still i find it's 
songs languishing at the number 5,6 or even worse below 10th spots 
on a number of countdown shows except bollyvista.com. even worse in 
one of the radio city or red fm programs i heard RDB is at number 23 
spot.
i really fail to understand why this kind of discrimination when it 
comes to the maestro's music. of late it has been found that some 
unacceptable trash compositions of the likes of himmesh (especially 
his nasal voice),pritam,anu malik,nadeem shravan get so much 
importance and are dubbed as absolute chartbusters.what a shame 
since either the songs are copied or just remixed versions of older 
songs like bluffmaster.
i also fail to understand what does this album lack? it has an 
absolute heavy duty bhangra number that too in a unique style of 
rahman,an absolute masterpiece in the form of luka chuppi,a youthful 
number paathshaala,a lilting melody tu bin bataaye,an inspiritional 
track khoon chala,a discotheque track khalbali,an awesome 
compostiton roobaroo..what else can one ask for yaar? and still i 
find songs like jhalak dikhlaaja of himesh topping the charts which 
is a heavily sufi inspired track i guess with heavy duty 
beats...recently this discrimination has been more...but why??just 
because rahman has chosen to do some off beat movies like 
bose,swades,meenaxi etc..that's why i feel he has been overlooked in 
the countdowns..believe me the more 1 song stays at the top the more 
the film,the song gets popularity and people go on buying it's 
music..but that is not the case for RDB.. thts why i feel the sales 
have not yet started booming..imagine a track like "right here right 
now" staying at the top of the charts and a song like luka chuppi is 
at the bottom..it really gives me a sad feeling and i pity the 
listeners and the so called judges of these songs...who choose to 
avoid these memorable compositions..i know it is a long post but plz 
do post ur thoughts on it...
at the same time i noticed that no song in RDB has an antara mukhra 
type of composition which no other MD can even dream of composing..

did yesterday.All words were used & exhausted yesterday - MAESTRO , GENIUS ,ORIGINAL , MAGICAL , HEAVENLY etc etc ..But the only question here is : Where were these guys all thesedays ? and What made them get addicted so much ??
Now to the programme itself . They started by speaking to AR himself( the same two minutes which is being aired even today ) .Highlight there was ARR's trademark & copywrighted giggle ' So youwanted to interview me ;-)) (instead of wishing me ) " !!

I was there at theUniversity generally doing some work related to the event when my profasked me to go along with the guys who were supposed to pick him upfrom the Cincinnati Airport!Obviously, I was in shock n it took me quite a while to come tounderstand what was in store... I was going to meet my A.R.Rahman nnot just that. We had to engage him in some conversation so that hewould nt feel too bored during the hour long journey back! Thesituation just didnt sink in and I was nt even able listen to what myfriends were speaking on the way to the Airport!Well, I could nt picturise the prospect of meeting him in such a closerange until he actually emerged from the crowds in the Delta Airlines'Arrival Terminal.
 He offered a friendly hand shake n said "Hello". Iwas shaken... Here was my Idol... A.R.Rahman. Could this be true?! Iwas so shaken that my mind went numb. I dont even know if Ireciprocated to his greeting!I was helping him get his luggage while the others went to get thevan. I was too scared to speak anything. That was when he asked me aquestion, "So, are you a music student?". I replied saying that I washere to do my MS. He asked, "Where r u from?" I said that I was fromAndhra but have stayed all my life in Chennai. This is when I startedspeaking on my own. My dad is himself from the Film Industry. He was aBass guitarist to be precise and had worked for more than 25 years.Apparently, he had also worked with A.R.Rahman while he was akey-board player. When I asked Rahman sir if he remembered my dad, heimmediately recognised n said "Oh, are you his son? What is your daddoing now? Where is he? Do u have any brothers or
 sisters?" etc...After listening to my replies, he asked me if I was into Music. I waslike "Not really, Have learnt a bit if guitar. Thats it. Dad pushed usall into studies." By this time, my friends brought the van. We got into it and there wassome general talk going when he suddenly said to me gesturing aguitar, "Take the guitar and learn it. It will be in your blood. Younever know!". I was both surprised and humbled with the kind ofstatement he made. Here was the most recognised face of Indian MusicIndustry worrying about the musical interests of a literal "nobody",with the kind of enthusiasm seen in a school kid. Should I say thisportrayed his commitment to Music or was it just part of hisdown-to-earth nature? You guys decide...I had so many questions to ask regarding his Music, the way he makesit, etc. But I refrained from these because he looked pretty tiredafter a long flight from Chennai. We were also told by
 our prof to notdisturb him with too many questions, taking pictures or autographs. Wethen had conversations related to various topics. He repeatedly keptasking us when the sun-set was in this part of the world. He wasworried about carrying out his daily practices before the prescribedtime... an extremely religious man that he is. I guess Rahman sirenjoyed the prospect of not being treated as a celebrity. He enjoyedlooking at the country-side, not being bothered by on-lookers fromneighbouring vehicles. For a moment, it was like he was just anotherindividual, sitting next to me in the van!! I even asked him whatmobile phone he carried... It was a Sony-Ericsson.  That whole hour oftravel was unbelievable and undoubtedly the best time of my life.After dropping him at the Guest-House, we went back to our places. Iwas visibly on cloud nine, still not being able to come to terms withthe situation. Was it A.R.Rahman whom I
 just met?! I have heardstories about him being extremely humble. But, believe me... the wayhe carried out himself was simply amazing, standing testimonial tothat fact. It is a lesson which everyone of us should impart. I was 8 years old when I first listened to A.R.Rahman's music... itwas the song Kadhal Rojave, from the movie Roja, being screened on TV.I was so deeply moved, for an 8 year old, by the kind of sound thatfilled the room. By this time, my friends brought the van. We got into it and there was
some general talk going when he suddenly said to me gesturing a
guitar, "Take the guitar and learn it. It will be in your blood. You
never know!". I was both surprised and humbled with the kind of
statement he made. Here was the most recognised face of Indian Music
Industry worrying about the musical interests of a literal "nobody",
with the kind of enthusiasm seen in a school kid. Should I say this
portrayed his commitment to Music or was it just part of his
down-to-earth nature? You guys decide...

I had so many questions to ask regarding his Music, the way he makes
it, etc. But I refrained from these because he looked pretty tired
after a long flight from Chennai. We were also told by our prof to not
disturb him with too many questions, taking pictures or autographs. We
then had conversations related to various topics. He repeatedly kept
asking us when the sun-set was in this part of the world. He was
worried about carrying out his daily practices before the prescribed
time... an extremely religious man that he is. I guess Rahman sir
enjoyed the prospect of not being treated as a celebrity. He enjoyed
looking at the country-side, not being bothered by on-lookers from
neighbouring vehicles. For a moment, it was like he was just another
individual, sitting next to me in the van!! I even asked him what
mobile phone he carried... It was a Sony-Ericsson.  That whole hour of
travel was unbelievable and undoubtedly the best time of my life.

After dropping him at the Guest-House, we went back to our places. I
was visibly on cloud nine, still not being able to come to terms with
the situation. Was it A.R.Rahman whom I just met?! I have heard
stories about him being extremely humble. But, believe me... the way
he carried out himself was simply amazing, standing testimonial to
that fact. It is a lesson which everyone of us should impart. 

I was 8 years old when I first listened to A.R.Rahman's music... it
was the song Kadhal Rojave, from the movie Roja, being screened on TV.
I was so deeply moved, for an 8 year old, by the kind of sound that
filled the room. In the background, I heard my dad's voice telling my
mom, "That is Dileep's first movie." Right from then, till now, I

I just cant imagine how lucky I am to have actually met my Idol,
A.R.Rahman. It happened on 22nd October, 2005 and the experience
continued until 23rd October, 2005. I m sorry to post it this late.
But what better than the birthday of the great man himself.

It all started like this... (Pls Read patiently, it was a long meeting
with many unforgettable moments)

A.R.Rahman sir was coming to Miami University, Ohio, US to attend a
concert. The concert was by an orchestra called Global Rhythms, the
brain child of Prof. Srinivas Krishnan (My Mentor). I was there at the
University generally doing some work related to the event when my prof
asked me to go along with the guys who were supposed to pick him up
from the Cincinnati Airport!

Obviously, I was in shock n it took me quite a while to come to
understand what was in store... I was going to meet my A.R.Rahman n
not just that. We had to engage him in some conversation so that he
would nt feel too bored during the hour long journey back! The
situation just didnt sink in and I was nt even able listen to what my
friends were speaking on the way to the Airport!

Well, I could nt picturise the prospect of meeting him in such a close
range until he actually emerged from the crowds in the Delta Airlines'
Arrival Terminal. He offered a friendly hand shake n said "Hello". I
was shaken... Here was my Idol... A.R.Rahman. Could this be true?! I
was so shaken that my mind went numb. I dont even know if I
reciprocated to his greeting!

I was helping him get his luggage while the others went to get the
van. I was too scared to speak anything. That was when he asked me a
question, "So, are you a music student?". I replied saying that I was
here to do my MS. He asked, "Where r u from?" I said that I was from
Andhra but have stayed all my life in Chennai. This is when I started
speaking on my own. My dad is himself from the Film Industry. He was a
Bass guitarist to be precise and had worked for more than 25 years.
Apparently, he had also worked with A.R.Rahman while he was a
key-board player. When I asked Rahman sir if he remembered my dad, he
immediately recognised n said "Oh, are you his son? What is your dad
doing now? Where is he? Do u have any brothers or sisters?" etc...
After listening to my replies, he asked me if I was into Music. I was
like "Not really, Have learnt a bit if guitar. Thats it. Dad pushed us
all into studies."

[arr] ARR Special on Radiocity 91 FM

It finally happened on Radiocity 91 FM - The ARR Special Midnight 
Hungama !!

Before I get into the details, a small background on Radiocity & its 
ARR affinity . Till Saathiya ( 2002) everything was fine with 
Radiocity . 
ARR tracks were aired & that in prime & proper slots . Even there 
used be ARR feature on" Top 8 @ 8 " hosted by Chaitanya Hedge 
regularly. 

Then I dont know what happened to these guys , they hardly played 
ARR tracks . Even if they did one or two ,it was a filler or at 
times past midnight . 
All films Meenaxi , Tehzeeb , Lakeer , Kisna , Swades , BOSE , 
Mangal Pandey were ignored.   I use to think ARR  might have refused 
an interview request & this guys turned against him. I got used to 
this & never expected a new ARR tracks and if they played anything 
it was a bonus ;-))  .

"Rang De Basanthi" got released and these guys have turned upside 
down completely after that . And this ARR Special was the heights of 
it . 
These guys are going GA GA over our boss & they havent stopped 
literally from yesterday night ! I even now feel that hosts Vasanthi 
& Rohit should have joined our group and got influenced by us . So 
I've personally pardoned & forgiven these poor hosts after what they 
did yesterday. 
All words were used & exhausted yesterday - MAESTRO , GENIUS , 
ORIGINAL , MAGICAL , HEAVENLY etc etc .. 

But the only question here is : Where were these guys all these 
days ? and What made them get addicted so much ?? 

Now to the programme itself . They started by speaking to AR himself 
( the same two minutes which is being aired even today ) . 
Highlight there was ARR's trademark & copywrighted giggle ' So you 
wanted to interview me ;-)) (instead of wishing me ) " !! 

Following is playlist they played .. of course with Rohit & Vasanthi 
going crazy with intro for every track : My favourite , Song of the 
Decade , Awesome number , Song that changed film music for 
ever   etc .. etc .. Surprising aspect was they played a few 
tamil numbers as well apart from Telugu numbers .

Pointless @ 12:35 contest . Listeners have come up with some 
interesting line using any 2 ARR's films or numbers !!

10.Roja - Choti Se asha 
11.Swades - Yeh jo des 
12.Lagaan - Ghanan Ghanan 

Manu : Was announced winner of the contest . His line was " 
SAATHIYA , Pahno JEANS , Chalo BOMBAY , Bann javo YUVA " 

13.Boys - Sa re ga me - TELUGU 
14.Rhythm - Thaniye . It started with it & they slowly merged it 
with Nachale ( Lakeer ) . Good work .

Contest asking who are the two people who are clebarting B'day 
today ? ( Kapil Dev was the other one !! )
