PROBLEM ON RELEASING THE FILM. I REALLY DON'T KNOW THE REASON. THEY

I really  loved the Title track sung by ARR & Shubba.Actually I had the cassette but now its no good. I would love to see Boys remade to hindi.  but with good lyrics, without 
spoiling the flow of the music.

then, that would be the greatest hit of all time, i am sure about it.  
no one in india would have ever heard anything like the songs in Boys..

This guy may not be well-regarded in some other forum,
but I have to agree with a couple of his points:

Absolutely. I am sick of hearing blaze or someone
rapping over the songs. Paatshaala and Khalbali and
songs like that really pull it down. Even the title
song is a disappointment. When Daler Mehendi harped on
and on about how he sang the entire song in 5 minutes,
our suspicions should have been raised. The sad part
is that Rahman himself seems to have taken just
another 5 minutes to create the magic of the song
after he has the singers recorded. The "melody" number
Tum Bin Bataye has some promising instrumentation but
seems too cliched and tries too hard to be a melody
number. I like the organ which sounds like a chorus
chanting during the verses, but the rest of the song
is just meh.

I wouldn't agree with this. The more reknown singers
in this album are Daler Mehendi and Lata Mangeshkar
and they were the weakest singers on the album. The
newer voices are really better. And none of them tried
to use an anglisized accent like Shaan in his
"Mohabbat hai Mirchi" song. I just cant stand that.

I felt the same thing. The lyrics of Paatshaala
sounded too much like those badly dubbed songs from
his Prabhu Deva era. If the album's claim to the
charts is this song, I really dont have much hope for
it's success. But Koon Chala and even the lyrics of
the title song are pretty neat. And Lalkaar has good
lyrics too. It's just the supposedly chartbusters like
Paatshaala that have cheesy, if not enjoyable, lyrics.

Well, besides Akbar Jodha and possibly Buddha, I cant
think of any other period films he is signed up for.
Maybe the mirage that is Mahabharatha. But seriously
it doesn't make a difference. He can really create
great period music like Iruvar and 1947. Right now,
it's his contemparary work that seems to be suffering,
like RDB and Anbae Aayuriye.

I really hope the JoK rocks. I dont have much hope
with Shivaji, cos though Shankar albums become hits
(which, I agree, Rahman really needs badly), he seems
to get the worst out of his music directors. Indian,
Jeans and Mudalvan were really weak Rahman albums with
Boys just rising a little above these. And Aniyan is
possibly Harris Jayaraj's worst album. Pity, cos he is
amazing too. 

So, at the risk of not being highly regarded with this
group, I have to agree with this guy on a couple of
points.

Roy. The last question pertains to her new documentary.

What are you working on next?
A documentary on the stage version of The Lord Of The Rings. It's very 
different and a challenge because in theatre, it's all about how you 
tell the story. It is a fantastic production for the Toronto stage and 
the music is being done by A R Rahman and Finnish band Vartinna. I 
believe this production will change the benchmarks of theatre.

Hi Guys,

Sometime back I posted this as I was searching for some old Rahman 
hits original CD's.

Sorry to say that but I have failed in getting the major CD's. All I 
managed in original CD's are Doli Saja Ke Rakhna,Thakshak and Muthu. 
These are OK but I could not feel the orignal impact I felt when as 
a college student I listened to these songs in audio cassettes, 
probably saregamas remanufacturing unit is shoddy. Some other songs 
I found in some indivuual collections and the 42 rs CD's of Lahari.

But I found one guy who has original CD's or copies of original CD's 
(stamp) who could record some CD's. The copy was good and after a 
very very long time listened to Thiruda Thiruda in a good quality 
sound (infact I listened to in Apple ipod Apple lossless format with 
USD 180 Shure E3C earphones ) and it was good. I felt very bad that 
I had to resort to this because the inefficient way the music 
industry works and this copy did not come cheap. It was 100 Rs per 
CD, which I paid becuase I belive these to be original Magnasound 
and Pyramid recordings. (probably the shop keeper cheated me seeing 
how I insisted onthe quality etc)

true , but u can't convert all songs unless the movies r dubbed ,the 
songs have to match with the story line , bla bla bla ...  eg 
Mudalvan was remade in hindi, i'm not sure whether the music was a hit 
or not. u don't have to understand the lyrics to appreciate any music, 
although it help and adds flavour to it.

Gops, I hope you can post this.  I just got this message on another
forum from a guy who is not well regarded.  He has some advice for ARR
that I found pretty funny.  Here is what he said:

"Again AR Rahman dissapoints us with RDB as the audio is refusing to
pick up in sales. I have pointed out in the pas the weakness in
approach of ARR in recent years. Let me repeat that.

1) He has to give more time to create melodious music instread of this
rap and western tren. We want Jiya Jale, Kehna Hai Kya over Khalbali
type of songs.

2) He has to take well know renowned singers to make his songs more
meaningfull. He has some vaugue thinking that only music directors are
powerfull and singers are non entity. Both md and singers have
contribution to make. When you take unknown singers you are actually
letting people not to buy your albums.

3) He has to tell his lyricists to write something which people can
understand not something like Pathshala or Dakka laga bukka.

4) Dont do period films. He is himself saying he is done with it but
again taking assignments for it.

He has to correct the above otherwise none of his album going to reach
the top 10. Except Swades and Yuva none of the last 9 albums even
reached 5 lakhs unit sell. For ARR album usually it picks in West and
South. But now West has also rejected it."

I've bought tickets to go to the LOTR musical on Saturday, February 4 
(it's the opening weekend, maybe ARR might be there!).  I've bought 
the tickets back in May 2005 and now the person accompanying me cannot 
make it to the show.  

Since the ticket is non-refundable, I was wondering whether any 
Canadian/American ARR fan will be interested in purchasing my spare 
ticket.  

I've got 3 weeks left to find someone...

I want your help regarding above-mentioned subject.  I have the
andhimandarai songs, but it is not in good quality compared to other
songs,
but recently someone in our group had uploaded the Theme 2 in a great
quality and someone has also uploaded the pudhiya mugam theme with good
quality recenlty.  Now, I wanted to know how can we better the
poor sound quality of the songs.  Is it any software for
that.   Please clarifty this.

HE may be one of the world's greatest tabla players, but Ustad Zakir Hussain is not a man who gets caught up in his own reputation. Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain enjoying what he does best. In town last week on a very brief stopover to plug his concert next month, the 54-year-old tabla maestro took a moment to poke fun at himself. A tabla - one of India's most popular percussion instruments - was placed before him
at the Indigo Bar in Boat Quay. A local television news crew wanted him to play for the camera. With an impish grin and an exaggerated American accent, he said: 'Is this what they call a tabla?' Once a musical prodigy, Zakir started his touring career at the age of 12 with his father - the late Ustad Alla Rakha who, with Ravi Shankar, was credited with taking Indian classical music to the West. Zakir himself is known for kick-starting the world music movement by combining Indian classical music with other musical genres such as rock, jazz, and folk. He has scored the soundtrack for Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha and co-created and produced his 1992 Grammy winning album Planet Drum with Mickey Hart from the veteran rock band, The Grateful Dead. He also co-composed the opening music for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. On 5 Feb, he will be performing with percussionists Terry Bozzio and Giovanni
Hidalgo at the Esplanade Concert Hall in a performance called Kaleidoscope of Rhythms. Joining them will be Salim Merchant, who is one-half of the Salim-Suleiman duo that composed the hit Bollywood soundtrack Dhoom. Zakir's first concert in Singapore was more than 20 years ago, which he claimed barely made a ripple. 'I came, I played, I left,' he said. CUT DOWN ON CONCERTS The maestro used to do 150 concerts a year, but now he has cut down due to his teaching commitments at Princeton University in the US. 'That used to be in my younger days, when I was carefree and rash. I am down to about 120 now,' he said with a smile. 'It's because I have to teach and I am also doing things like scoring music for independent and Hollywood films.' One of the films he is currently working on is The Goddess, starring Tina Turner. But his Bollywood involvement is limited. So far, they
have been mostly indie projects such as Rahul Bose's Everybody Says I'm Fine. He was also featured in and scored Shabana Azmi's 1997 film Saaz (Harmony). However, Zakir said Bollywood films take too much out of him. 'When you have a small production, like Aparna Sen's, it is all planned from day one. So I am told six months ahead, then I can make the time,' he said. 'When you have big productions such as a YashRaj film or a (Karan) Johar film, you are at their beck and call. 'Things can change anytime.' Despite his minimal involvement with Bollywood films, their characteristic, vibrant musical style owes a great debt to Zakir's innovations. INCREASING INFLUENCE And with Hollywood's increased interest in Asian cinema, his influence is set to broaden. 'There is a lot going on in Hollywood; they are looking at other musical sounds to embellish whatever exists now, which I
think has become very monotonous and dull,' he said. 'There is this need for the Western world to tap into sounds which are mythical, mystical, magical and mysterious.' Zakir said he is envious of musicians such as AR Rahman of Bombay Dreams and Salim, who have successfully fused Indian classical music with Western styles. 'You can hear a classical Indian song but it has got a rock beat to it. A classical Indian musician would never think - on pain of death - of doing that. 'It is a creative area with no boundaries,' he said. But he added that Rahman and Salim are able to do it because they know the basics of Indian classical music. 'If Rahman was asked to compose a classical piece of music, he could do it. 'Be it young punk, hip-hop or Indian artists, they all would have to study the basics first,' he said. But
he is not too crazy about terms like 'world music' and 'new age'. He said dryly: 'These terms were created by record companies so they can put a label on the shelves. 'We as musicians are not to be blamed for these terms.'

INDIAN. I must say that the quality is not as good as from other ARR movies 
since it's an older movie (almost 10 years) or better an older DVD. So I hope 
you don't mind.
