ARR should NEVER work with Gautam. His films are violent, sadistic and complete
rip-off from Hollywood movies.

Let Gautam stick to HJ, I have no worries.

In my honest opinion Gautam Menon is a wannabe director who apes
hollywood flicks and gets himself a "slick" filmmaker tag. I suppose
his combibnation with Harris Jeyaraj would be thoroughly justified as
the latter is again a wannabe who apes the arrangement (plagiarises is
a wrong word to use here) of other music directors. I dont intend to
create any controversy here, but Rahman deserves to work with more
"mature" directors.

[arr] [Maybe ARR] Rajnikanth first Indian toon star

2007-02-16 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
Rajnikanth first Indian toon star

New Delhi, Feb. 16: Shah Rukh Khan had to be content with being the desi voice
of The
Incredibles, but all set to become the first Indian hero to hit the silver
screen in animated
form is Tamil superstar Rajnikanth. An ambitious 3-D animated project titled
Superstar, being
developed by Rajnikanth’s daughter Soundarya and Adlabs Films, will see the
actor’s swaggering
walk and characteristic flipping of sunglasses and cigarettes become part of
animation history.
The film is being co-produced by Soundarya’s post-production house, Ocher
Studio Pvt. Ltd. With
Rajnikanth’s family being personally involved in the making of the film,
special care is being
taken to ensure that the actor’s popular style is captured in the final product.

The lead character in Superstar is based on Rajnikanth and the film is expected
to see a 2008
release. "It gives me the unique privilege of animating my father, the iconic
superstar, for
the first time, and I consider this a special dedication for his contribution
to the Indian
film industry," is how Soundarya Rajnikanth, also the managing director of
Ocher Studios, puts
it.

With Rajnikanth’s popularity extending to places like Japan, which,
incidentally, produces some
of the world’s best animation works, both Adlabs and Ocher are hoping to
attract international
attention with the film. Adding to the film will be the special characteristics
and style that
the actor has popularised over the years. The film is expected to mark Adlab’s
entry into the
animation market and is being seen as an international project in view of the
actor’s immense
popularity both in the country and abroad.

"Over 50 per cent of India is below the age of 20. Besides that, animation is a
universal
favourite for all audiences. There is a dearth of quality animation content
originating from
India and Adlabs is making a keen foray into the sector with this project,"
said Pooja Shetty,
the director of Adlabs Films Ltd.

Re: [arr] Re: Aamir's production has sensibilities of 4 years back

2007-02-16 Thread Triply R.
If sources are to be believed, shooting of Taaray Zameen Pe is complete and
the movie will come out within the next couple of months.

What I heard of Ghajjini is that Aamir will start shooting for it most probably
from April in Chennai. The movie will be directed by Murgadoss, who did the
original, and will be produced by Allu Arvind, famous film producer and
brother-in-law of Chiranjeevi. The movie will have music by A.R. Rahman.
The original was a very good entertainer and had amazing performances by Surya
and Asin. I reserve from calling it outstanding only because the concept of a
man with short term memory loss, out to avenge his dead wife, remembering
things with notes, tattoos and polariods is originally from the English film
Momento. That is a film that really does reward patient viewers.

I assume Ghajjini will be wrapped up pretty quickly, which will give Aamir time
to sit with Lajjo in December. But yes, looks like Lajjo wont release for a
year and a half, if it ever does get made!! I would have preferred the romantic
comedy "High-Jump" to "Lajjo". Mani is amazing with subtle humor.

[arr] Water music release today

2007-02-16 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
Water music preloaded on 1GB iPod

MUMBAI: BR Films and Sony BMG have scored a first of sorts by releasing the
music of Oscar
nominated film Water, which becomes the first film in the world, claim the two
companies, whose
music CD will be made available with an iPod.

"Any 1GB iPod Shuffle that will be purchased by a consumer will have a
pre-packed CD of Water
and 78 additional songs composed by A R Rahman," says HCL marketing head Pankaj
Chopra. HCL
represents iPod in India.

Rahman, who had earlier composed the music for Deepa Mehta's Fire and Earth, is
also the music
director of Water.

Water, which stars John Abraham, Lisa Ray and Seema Biswas will be released in
India by Ravi
Chopra on 9 March.

The iPod Shuffle will be made available exclusively at all Planet M stores
across India. In a
special event that will be held on 17 February 2007, Rahman will unveil the
iPod collection at
a Planet M store in Mumbai.

[arr] Re: Rahman and his brilliant chords

2007-02-16 Thread ishaan_03
great post! but the two lines you said sound different because of the
arrangements...even the chord is same in both the places...and the
male choir which plays behind naresh iyer's vocals sounds mindblowing

another example is in ye jo des hai tera...the tune of second and
third paragraphs is the same...but there is no rhythm second
time...this makes it sound completely different...hail AR sir!

  Hi Guys,
How abt a concept of Rahmania in Bangalore if there is'nt a band like that
yet?
I and another friend of mine in this grp play the keyboard..It wud be a gr8
idea if v find more talent to make a band just for ARR's music :)
  Cheers,
  Prathap.

We are overwhelmed by the congratulatory messages from the audiance
who attended the RAHMANIA shows performed by The Wandering Souls in
Pune recently. We are getting constant SMSs, emails from them to
enquire about the next set of programmes. We thank everybody for the
encouragement and for giving us a positive feedback.

When I reflect on the last one / two months which led to these 3
programmes we conducted in PUNE showcasing the Rahman music, I find
that following things contributed to the success of this concept.

1. Complete dedication by the team - Almost all members of The
Wandering Souls had performed on stage at some point of time and were
expert in their department of Music. Most important, all of them
loved Rahman music and had taken great pains to master the RAHMAN
SOUND.

2. Hard work - Again, almost 90% of the team members were working in
some company or other or students and had enough work to do on their
own. Still they arrived at the practice sessions on time and also
practiced at home as per their convenience. Some members like
Ashutosh Joshi who is working in Mumbai, had to shuttle between Pune
and Mumbai regularly and had to take leave from office to attend the
practice and the actual concert.

3. Right sound - The group had worked hard to achieve the RAHMAN
sound as much as they can with the available instruments and tracks
and in this respect the credit must go to the core team led by Anmol
Bhave and Tejas and assisted by Ajay Atre. The heart of Rahman's
music is the instrumentation and this group had taken extra pains in
achieving this. The song selection too was very well. Nikhil Mulay
was always available to help out Anmol on the sound system. Both of
them had a tough time on 7'th but more than made it up on the 10'th
programme.

4. Vocals - Great teamwork from all the vocalist, Hrishikesh,
Ashutosh, Jasraj, Sandeep, Swarali, Swarada, Pallavi, Megha. All of
them were so versatile that they could pick up any song and just
continue with the performance without any hitch. They helped a lot.

5.Instrumentalist - Keyboards were ably handled by Tejas, Rahul and
Pinak, the guitarists Ajit was also good. The flute was superbly
managed by Satyajeet and who can forget the Drums by Abhijeet and
Indian percussions by Vivek ? They were on-the dot with their
frequencies.

6. Backstage - Geetanjali, Nikita, Amod, Prachee and the other
support team was always on their toes to arrange for the practice
sessions, advertisement, ticket printing, audiance management and
what not.

7. Research and art - Mandar, Sameer had prepared great print ad
material and was an instant hit. Amith and Milind had prepared all
the script for the show and the information they presented was well
received by one and all.

All being my nephews and nieces, none of them ever raised a voice of
protest when I gave them a straight talk on few occasion and they
took the suggesions in right spirit with utmost sincerity and I will
give them full credit for their politeness and desire to refine their
act.

All in all everybody worked extremely hard and with total dedication
and with a challange that we have to honour RAHMAN's word that we
have to "retain the soul of the music". We hope we did justice to his
words.

We have received many requests to have more shows and also received
invitations from outside Pune. Considering the logistical and
commercial issues, the group will take up these requests and try to
do justice to the hightened expectations of the audiance in Pune.

Are there similar groups who are active in other cities ? can we come
together for some reason or other ??

Best regards
Dinesh Vaidya

  Dear raghu
if there was any dictionary telling the meaning of the names then
A R Rahman will surely mean these meanings

  A R Rahman = Expect the unexpected.

A R Rahman = Raise your expectations as much as you can, still he will
  deliver more than your expectations.

A R Rahman = Someone best in the world.

I too get mad and mad as i listen that violin part of the song AYE

[arr] Rahman and his brilliant chords

2007-02-16 Thread Ajit
One aspect of Rahman's music that I truly find remarkable is his use
of harmonies. His knowledge and application of chords is unmatched in
the history of Indian music IMHO. He can use the same melodic line,
apply a difference chordal sequence, and the melody sounds like a
different melody. Now, that's genius.

One example, in the song "Tu Bin Bataye" from RDB, notice how the
melody sounds when Madhrushree sings the "Meethi Lagi..." line.
Then, listen to the same melodic line when Naresh Iyer enters the
first time after the saxaphone music interlude. It's the same melody
as Madhushree's line, but the chords are all together different. It
almost sounds like a different melody. And in Naresh's line, Rahman
adds the choral track which adds so much depth and dimension. A
simple melody made even more beautiful by Rahman's harmonics and
arrangements.

There are many other exmples, too many to cite here.

[arr] Aamir's production has sensibilities of 4 years back

2007-02-16 Thread satish_srini
By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 16, 2007 - 05:48 IST
Post Rang De Basanti and Fanaa we haven't heard much from Aamir Khan
on the filmi scene. However the actor, off late, has been pretty busy
with acting, production and rumouredly also ghost direction.

Firstly he is producing Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na that marks the
directorial debut of script writer Abbas Tyrewala. Recently rumours
had it that the film has been renamed to Main Hoon Na Maqbool. "This
is hilarious", exclaims Abbas Tyrewala. Perhaps the rumour originated
from the fact that Abbas happens to be the writer of both Main Hoon Na
and Maqbool. "But Main Hoon Na Maqbool is a better title. I should
have thought of it before", he adds teasingly. The title of the film
is confirmed as Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.

Speaking about the cast of the film Abbas says, "Aamir's nephew Imraan
Khan will be seen as the male lead. He is Aamir's sister's son. I
can't divulge much about him at this moment, but he is definitely one
actor to watch out for!" Genelia D'souza of Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti
fame has been finalized to play the female lead.

The film about young love is almost reaching completion. Says
Tyrewala, "We will be shooting continuously till the first week of
April. A few months of post-production after that and hopefully then
the movie will be ready for release!"

So is Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na a period film? "No, it is not a period
film," says Tyrewala, "But it is not very modern as well. It has
sensibilities of five years back." While Aamir is producing the film,
PVR Cinemas is presenting it. A. R. Rahman is composing the music for
this film.

Being an Aamir Khan production we question Abbas if there is any
possibility of Aamir Khan making a cameo in the film and he confirms,
"Aamir himself will not be seen anywhere in the film. However there
are a lot of other actors in the film who will make a special
appearance including Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Arbaaz Khan
and Arshad Warsi"

Apart from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Aamir is also producing a film called
Tare Zameen Par that is being directed by Amol Gupte. Aamir plays the
male lead of this film. He will also be starring in the remake of
Tamil film Ghajini that pairs him with Ayesha Takia. Finally there is
Mani Ratnam's Lajjo where he is cast opposite Kareena Kapoor.

[arr] 'Top-5' is unshakable as 'Just Married' re-enters

2007-02-16 Thread satish_srini
1) Guru : With none of the new releases of 2007 making much mark, as
far as music sales are concerned, and no new notable releases in
sight, the Top-5 of the music charts remains steady for yet another
week in succession. `Guru' enjoys its stint at the top with the big
success of the movie only helping the retention value. `Ek Lo Ek Muft'
was never a great composition. It's presence in the film only breaks
the narrative!

No song of arr's is instrumentless. If so, one can observe whispering of
instruments to say atleast these are used to very minium level where one may
miss that.

Re: [arr] Why TWS's RAHMANIA rocked PUNE !!!

2007-02-16 Thread Prathap Sounderraj

Hi Guys,
How abt a concept of Rahmania in Bangalore if there is'nt a band like that
yet?
I and another friend of mine in this grp play the keyboard..It wud be a gr8
idea if v find more talent to make a band just for ARR's music :)
Cheers,
Prathap.

On 2/15/07, Dinesh Vaidya <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
