A still from London DreamsRaj Kumar Santoshi, of Damini fame
and China Gate infamy, is today a man of shattered dreams. Literally. His most
ambitious project to date London Dreams has been shelved because nobody seemed
to give him the time of day. The film which is about a rock band in England was
to star Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, and ironically eight songs for the feature
have already been recorded. The film though has been plagued by cast-related
issues from the onset. Akshay Kumar was initially to play the lead along with
Devgan, but opted out abruptly.

Salman Khan's dates then went awry thanks to his thinning hair, and Ajay Devgan
supposedly could not accommodate any fresh dates.

This, though, is just the actor bit. The actresses had their own musical chairs
in turn. For instance, immediately after the film was announced Salman
requested Santoshi to replace Priyanka Chopra (who was Santoshi's original
choice for lead actress) with beau Katrina Kaif. This merry-go-round though was
to continue and soon enough, Vidya Balan found herself playing the part.

When contacted about this fiasco, a source said, "Raj Kumar has lost interest
in the project because he feels that the project is taking too long and the
combination dates of Ajay and Salman are now working out because both of them
are extremely busy actors." The only thin hope Santoshi had was of Devgan
lending him some dates after his current commitments. But as it turns out that
Devgan is pre-occupied with his directorial venture, which he will dive right
into after his current slate of shooting dates with various other directors.

Despite the writing on the wall, Santoshi chose his words carefully when we
asked him about his 'dream'. He said, "As the director of the film, I can't
decide whether a film will be made or not. It's true that we have been unable
to get combination dates from Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. However, we're
making efforts to solve the
problem."http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=article§id=30&contentid=2007040403485939075899eeb

When contacted about this fiasco, a source said, "Raj Kumar has lost
interest in the project because he feels that the project is taking too long
and the combination dates of Ajay and Salman are now working out because
both of them are extremely busy actors." The only thin hope Santoshi had was
of Devgan lending him some dates after his current commitments. But as it
turns out that Devgan is pre-occupied with his directorial venture, which he
will dive right into after his current slate of shooting dates with various
other directors.

Despite the writing on the wall, Santoshi chose his words carefully when
we asked him about his 'dream'. He said, "As the director of the film, I
can't decide whether a film will be made or not. It's true that we have been
unable to get combination dates from Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. However,
we're making efforts to solve the problem."

[arr] Arr Fans - Rajni Fans - Balancing problem - why ?

2007-04-04 Thread Sarathy S

  Another angle -

Why this happens mostly to a rajni movie with arr - Fans with mixed feelings.
Rajni sir do not want to risk his image with young grand sounds created by Arr.
And arr is more sophisticated with his ideas he has to come down bit to create
rajni tunes & not arr tunes. Whenever rajni works in a movie the trend
continues in music right from 1980s. From 90s music in his movies reflect it is
also rajni's choice to have those tunes & not just dir. & prod. choice. One of
the reasons, majority of his fans are seniors & from good old days of rajni
right from 1980s. I really doubt whether this present younger generation how
far they can enjoy rajni's taste of music is what reflected thro rahman fans
who r not happy with such tunes or if it is rajni fans who r not happy then
they all seniors & to them rahmans sophisticated approach or experiment is too
much to go gaga. Either rajni sir shld give complete freedom to rahman to feel
the magic or Rahman can better need not show his
sophistication & go very very simplest to make rajni fans feel haa this is wat
v need & thats enough. Result Arrs music in rajni movies are a kind of half for
rajni fans & half for arr fans. To such fans a balancing problem of not able to
enjoy completely or not able to dislike totally.

[arr] "Balle Leikka" - A Rocker !!!

2007-04-04 Thread RamKumar
Hi All,

Long time since I posted in our group. Great to see our group "dancing" for
our boss's latest "Sivaji". Yes, Rahman is definitely the Boss !!!

The pace and force in the song "Balle Leikka" made me write this e-mail. It
is definitely an amazing stunner by ARR. It is definitely going to "Rock" the
listeners, channels, FMs etc. Though there have been comments saying that "it
is to suit the latest trend" or "has similarities with Thaam Thakka song", it
clearly has the "Rahman Class". There is absolutely no doubt about it. Just
listen to the strings support at the back-ground. That will speak the class of
ARR. Wow !!!

And we should also mention the good lyrics and astounding performance by SPB
!!!. The phrase "Sattena Sollu" placed throughout the song is an intersting
aspect in this song. The way Rahman develops the pace in the song (in the
prelude) is a great work.

Again, this song is gonna "Rock" everyone.

  Bye,
  Ram

A still from London DreamsRaj Kumar Santoshi, of Damini fame and China
Gate infamy, is today a man of shattered dreams. Literally. His most
ambitious project to date London Dreams has been shelved because nobody
seemed to give him the time of day. The film which is about a rock band in
England was to star Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, and ironically eight songs
for the feature have already been recorded. The film though has been plagued
by cast-related issues from the onset. Akshay Kumar was initially to play
the lead along with Devgan, but opted out abruptly.

Salman Khan's dates then went awry thanks to his thinning hair, and Ajay
Devgan supposedly could not accommodate any fresh dates.

This, though, is just the actor bit. The actresses had their own musical
chairs in turn. For instance, immediately after the film was announced
Salman requested Santoshi to replace Priyanka Chopra (who was Santoshi's
original choice for lead actress) with beau Katrina Kaif. This
merry-go-round though was to continue and soon enough, Vidya Balan found
herself playing the part.

Despite the writing on the wall, Santoshi chose his words carefully when

can't decide whether a film will be made or not. It's true that we have been
unable to get combination dates from Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. However,

[arr] A.R.Rahman Website

2007-04-04 Thread Bergin Roy
Guys,

Do we have an exclusive professionally organised website for ARR? I
didnt find any professional website. I remember the one, Gopal used
to maintain long long ago... If i'm not wrong.

Most of us are somehow related to IT, i can give my hand to build a
website.

It should go very very professional. Not the usual static one.
Dynamic with latest information put on to it. We can think of the
cost of website development, maintenance. If all the members, join
and with a nominal fee or when we buy ARR t-shirts, lets have a
portion of the cost for the website maintenance. Somehow we can
generate funds for that.

Lets give a thought to it and conceive.

Cheers,
Bergin.

Hi all biggies out there in the group.. :-)

Please tell AR or his near ones that Eros Music marketing heads are
expecting a word from some authorised person in the studio. They will decide
later whether to release it or how. At least they are valuing it now, after
coming to know about this group and its strength!

Biggies, its now or never. Its just another release for AR, but its a treat
for the fans.

Please consider the request.

Thanks.

[arr] Provoked: A True Story

2007-04-04 Thread Thulasi Ram

New Int'l. Release Provoked: A True Story (India-U.K.) By DEREK
ELLEY

Naveen Andrews terrorizes Aishwarya Rai in 'Provoked: A True Story.'
An Eros Intl. release of a Media One Global Entertainment presentation, in
association with Motion Picture Partners Intl. and British Media Fund Intl.
(International sales: Eros, London.) Produced by Sunanda Murali Manohar.
Executive producers, J. Murali Manohar, Firuzi Khan. Co-executive producer,
Nigel Glynn-Davies. Co-producer, Vinod Popat. Directed by Jag Mundhra.
Screenplay, Carl Austin, Rahila Gupta, based on the book "Circle of Light"
by Gupta, Kiranjit Ahluwalia.

Kiranjit Ahluwalia - Aishwarya Rai
Veronica Scott - Miranda Richardson
Deepak Ahluwalia - Naveen Andrews
Miriam - Rebecca Pidgeon
Radha Dalal - Nandita Das
Edward Foster - Robbie Coltrane
DS Ron Meyers - Steve McFadden
Anil Gupta - Raji James
PC James O'Connell - Nicholas Irons
Jackie - Deborah Moore
Doreen - Lorraine Bruce

*Asian dramatic sensibilities bring color and emotion to "Provoked," a
battered-immigrant-wife drama that, in British filmmaking hands, could have
been merely a downbeat, right-on trawl. Mixed Indian and Western cast --
with Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai surrounded by stalwarts like Miranda
Richardson, Robbie Coltrane and Rebecca Pidgeon -- turn the true story of a
case that changed British law into an old-style melodrama (in the best
sense) complete with a feel-good ending. With strong reviews, solid business
looks likely, with some crossover beyond the curry belt. Pic also opens the
Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles on April 17.*

Largely English-language pic goes out in India in a variety of
regional-language versions, but will mainly appeal there to metro auds. Much
will depend on Rai's local pulling power (not necessarily guaranteed in the
past), though the current hype surrounding her upcoming marriage to actor
Abhishek Bachchan won't hurt one bit.

Main surprise is that pic was directed by veteran journeyman Jag Mundhra,
whose 20-odd-year career has encompassed direct-to-vid soft-porn schlockers
(several with "Provoked" co-scripter Carl Austin), as well as occasional,
more serious movies (2000's "Bawandar," aka "Sandstorm"). Working from a
screenplay that adheres pretty closely to the facts, Mundhra delivers a work
that plays like a toned-down version of mainstream Indian cinema, with d.p.
Madhu Ambat's saturated lensing and well-composed widescreen visuals
bringing a South Asian feel to the U.K.-set material.

Pic gets straight down to business as, on the night of May 9, 1989,
British-born Indian Deepak Ahluwalia (Naveen Andrews) is horribly burned in
the bedroom of his suburban London home. Kiranjit (Rai), his Punjabi wife
and mother of two, is found in shock outside.

Not denying the charge of incinerating her spouse, Kiranjit (who speaks
little English) is accused of attempted murder when her prints are found on
the gasoline can. Though her body shows evidence of regular beatings, her
barrister Miriam (Pidgeon, with a slightly wobbly English accent) says she
can't claim self-defense, as Deepak was asleep at the time. Case is also
taken up by sparky Indian-born activist Radha Dalal (Nandita Das).

When Deepak finally dies from his burns, Kiranjit is charged with
first-degree murder, brought to trial in December and sentenced to life in
prison.

Multiple story strands keep the pic moving without focusing solely on
Kiranjit, a gentle, passive soul who tells Radha she feels "free" in jail
after years of spousal abuse. Early on, flashbacks to the early years of her
marriage start punctuating the narrative. And in a smart dramatic move, the
script also sketches Kiranjit's jailmates in some detail, especially tough
but tender cell companion, Veronica "Ronnie" Scott (Richardson), and prison
bully Doreen (TV's Lorraine Bruce).

With Rai dignified in a largely reactive role, it's the playing by thesps
like Richardson and Das, both excellent, that broadens the pic's emotional
palette. As Radha and lawyer Anil Gupta (Raji James), build a case for
appeal, and sympathetic ex-cop James O'Connell (Nicholas Irons) gives
crucial new evidence, the movie becomes a genuine heartwarmer, with a
rousing court perf by Kiranjit's new barrister (Coltrane).

Main weakness is that, in the flashbacks, Deepak's role has little
backgrounding, and his violent outbursts are given no psychological
underpinnings. Picture is more a quality meller, with clearly defined heroes
and villains, than a slice of social realism. But for viewers prepared to go
with the flow, it works at a gut, movie-movie level.

Technical package is smooth, with a warm score by star Indian composer A.R.
Rahman. For the record, Kiranjit Ahluwalia's case was instrumental in
getting U.K. law to recognize battered-wife syndrome.

  2. Ballelakka - Rajnis introduction song - He comes from a foreign country to
his native village & mingles with pple simply & affectionate & divine hearted.
(for e.g. malayala karayoram tamizh padum kurivi in rajathi raja or devuda in
CM & many films)

  3. He meets his love in that village - real time duet -
Sahaana :-)

From now on whether he marries heroine immediately or at the end, still facts
mentioned below will fit.

  4. He takes his heroine to his place (may be spain) - effect - Sunlight song

  5. He does business with rivals with a bang - to link this with audience need
Athiradee thee to dance with nayanthara & mallika sherawat might be in a real
foreign country club or thotta tharini's magnificently created sets in AVM
studio (chennai) :-)

  6. In due course due to his rivals intervention or his business minded
position to win evils -misunderstanding between hero & heroine leads to
Sahana. sad version & herione's prayer to god to get back his hero (maalae
manivanna)

  7. Time is passing with hero thinking abt solution to his rivals - but both
hero herione r out of reach - now comes -- be it hero's dream or heroine's
dream - Vaaji Vaaji & this is where it will make audience brisk
after going tired (safely..! due to eye strain) in almost after 70% of the
movie.

Returns back to conclusion of story how he wins bad pple & his love life (but
remember all in Arrs bgms & shankars style)

the end credits with The Boss theme Rocks again.

i agree with u that sahana is the best song in the album.
spb has done an amzing performance in ballelakka, arr cheers us in
athiradikaran, style is so style, vaaji vaaji is a combo of old and new,
shivaji the bose is a good theme but it goes off with naresh's voice.
he should've used naresh for sahana instead of udit. udit stresses the
tamil words too hard...
but the flute with the voice of vijay makes us to feel heaven, he has
done an xcellent performane...
what? do u agree?

[arr] Vijay Times reviews Sivaji

2007-04-04 Thread Gopal Srinivasan
Shivaji album focuses on Rajni’s charisma

The
audio is out and the verdict as well. Super Star’s Rajnikanth’s Shivaji
directed by Shankar contains songs written by top tamil film composers
which eulogises the film persona and charisma of the Super Star than
relating to the character he plays in the film. In short, these lyrics
are penned with Rajni’s charisma in mind and does not in any way
compare to the lyrics written for other films directed by Shankar which
revolved more around the film and its story content. And the verdict
is: it is a sure fire hit with Rajni fans.

The audio of
Shivaji was officially out on April 2. Though three songs of the film
were released through some websites in an unauthorised manner, there
was a great demand for the cassettes and CDs of the film. And all the
songs of the film seems to have been liked by Rajni fans who look for
songs that eulogises his personality and charisma. And A R Rehman’s
music compositions have also done wonders in creating the right magic
for the album.

Take the case of Oru Koodal Sunlight number.
The lyrics of the song have been written by lyricist P Vijay keeping
Rajni’s mannerisms and styles in mind. And Vijay creates a new phrase
to describe the Rajni persona. He is ‘Heeraththil Hero’. You can draw
your own conclusions as heera means diamond. It looks like Rajnikanth
wants to echo his own feelings in the song written by Na Muthukumar.
The foot tapping number Balleilakka song rendered by SPB reminds you of
Rehman’s earlier song composition ‘Veerapandi Kottayile’ in

Thiruda
Thiruda . After eulogising the Tamil and Tamilian, the lyricist goes ga
ga in describing the super star. He is called as Shiva, the destroyer,
Sun and Moon and what not. He can also turn Tamil Nadu into America,
says the lyrics which is intended to satisfy the large section of Rajni
fans who want him to make an entry in to politics. (Annan Vandha Tamil
Nadu America). Another song by Na Muthukumar has this punch line which
describes the Rajini as a person who can gobble up a lion like a
jalebi. And there is also another punchline; “Sachin adicha sixer thaan
da, Sivaji adicha puncher thaan da.” Veteran writers Vairamuththu and
Vaali have also written lyrics for the film. Vairamuthu’s song Sahana
has all the ingredients to become a chart buster and even a highly
impressed Rajnikanth has congratulated Vyramuththu. Veteran Vaali’s
lyrics for his song may well look like a song written by an
enthusiastic Rajni fan of 20. The song has lyrics that is made up of
film titles of Rajnikanth starrers.

Re: [arr] Just now -- why he says bad ???

2007-04-04 Thread Sarathy S

Chitti babu & other such pple why they could not enjoy sivaji ??

When there so many limitations taking over to region-bound music done by
Rahman who is an entire nation preferring person for music, naturally we can
see negative feedbacks or even Nil feedbacks for such music done for specific
persons & specific reasons.

unfortunately many non-tamils cannot easily relate to these sounds what Arr
did in sivaji, even be it godfather & sok.. when i say this, i mean this is not
for worldwide fans who could well enjoy arrs music in any form any language.
this view is for minority scale & taste. South indians excluding tamils and who
are mostly used to other MDs music of their own region & bollywood widely,
could mostly appreciate Arrs music which is of simple western oriented like ru
ba roo or boys, alai payuthey kinda music which covers all taste of pple or
classical fusion or his bollywood works..

Naturally those pple cannot enjoy for they cannot not easily identify such
region bound sounds & also for not knowing that language. I feel his work of
sivaji / sok / gf all come into such category which he did exclusively for
region bound fans. These genre of music is for people who are much used to
tamil sounds over a period of more than 20 years right from days of MSV,
Ilayaraja etc. will identify Sivaji well. So its no surprise to see certain
fans expectation or even one can see most of hindi pple here cannot enjoy
sivaji for not knowing the language & for more regional flavour though there r
hip hop & western tunes. Majority of fans prefer music from ARR that can be
enjoyed in easy way that is mostly accepted & successful tunes & of national
flavour even if they cannot understand that language.

Boys, Kkkk are such examples liked by whole of India despite mainly in tamil.
I m excluding other tamil hits as he gave same tunes in other lang. thro
dubbing & remakes. They can relate easily to Vaaji kinda beats & i m not much
used to hip hop & is new to me. If pple are there to njoy hip hops then they
will like this but here too only when understanding language. These pple cannot
njoy Sahara (typical rajini melody) or Ballelakka (done for rajni fans like
devuda song in CM) & what they know about Maalaey MaNi VaNNaa wrote by AAndaaL
:-) Pple who know tamil vedic texts or Naalaayira divya prabandham or
paasurams only know where these lines from & cld enjoy well. So even in that,
certain fans of rajni will not know what this Maalae MaNi VaNNaa.

In future if he tries to give successful sounds like in boys or then
posts will pour in from all regions. Most of melody lovers & classical based
lovers including me will like KM very much but donno how many others who are
for rocking beats cld able to appreciate such melodies & classical based. No
point to blame them as such is unfortunate situation when most pple are there
only for widely accepted music tastes for an International Music Director from
PattanaM ;-)

[arr] Record created by 'Sivaji' audio sales

2007-04-04 Thread yasheer_ar2
http://www.cinesouth.com/masala/hotnews/new/03042007-3.shtml

Record created by 'Sivaji' audio sales
- 03.04.2007
'Sivaji' is set to create many a record. In just one day after the audio
got released, the sales was enormous.

The audio sales is located in Chennai's Ritchie Street. To buy the
cassettes and CDs, dealers and fans from out of town thronged into the
street the earlier night itself. The morning saw a densely crowded
street. The cassettes and CDs brought in vans were sold out as soon as
they were loaded off. Small shops also did great sales.

Milk abhishekham and aarathi for Rajini photos by fans, gave a festive
atmosphere. Since 3 songs were already available on the Internet, the
fact that the audio sales was such a sell out is a feat indeed. AVM had
sent 2 lakhs each of cassettes and CDs and by afternoon, all were sold
out.

Such a response to audio sales has hitherto not been seen. In 'Sivaji,'
there are 2 songs the fans can dance to and 2 songs for them to sing
along and enjoy. "Oru koodai sunlight, oru koodai moonlight..." and
"Sachin adichaa sixer thaandaa, Sivaji adichaa puncture thaandaa.." will
make one want to dance. Hummable tunes are "Sahara pookkalum..." and
'Vaaji vaaji vaaji en jeevan nee Sivaji."
   [left]

The 'Sivaji' songs were broadcast on all FM stations the night before
audio release. A Rajini fan says this is a 'small' welcome for the film
that is to be released soon.

Then imagine what it would be like the day 'Sivaji' gets released. It is
mind boggling!

[arr] Shivaji is like no other Indian Film

Shivaji is like no other Indian Film

'All the roads lead to Rome' is an old proverb. 'All the people's and the
media attention is only on Shivaji is the new proverb in south Indian cinema.
This is no exaggeration. The entire state of Tamil Nadu is going crazy about
Shivaji after the audio launch of the film. Young boys and college students
have been seen changing their hairstyles like Rajini's in the film immediately
after the release of some photographs from Shivaji. Many ardent fans of Rajini
purchased the CDs and cassettes with their own money and supplied them to
their neighbours free of cost! At the same time, some people sold the CDs in
black market for Rs.250 today as the demand was greater than the supply.
Nearly 80,000 CDs got sold out on the second day, and the sellers have
requested the production house to send another 1 lakh CDs to meet the
increasing demand.

According to the 'Music World' show room manager, people are prefering to
purchase CDs rather than cassettes. He told us that he has seen more crowd
today than on Monday when the audio was formally launched. AVM sources say
that its audio distribution wing has supplied nearly 5 lakhs audio CDs and
cassettes all over south India. They also say that there is an amazing
response for the audio in Mumbai as well. According to them, more than 38
thousand audio CDs were sold in Kerala only. This is for the very first time
that an audio in a different language has sold in the state in such a huge
number, they claimed.

CD Sellers of Chennai Ritchie Street, the whole sale audio marketers for the
entire south, told us that they had never seen such a high demand for a film's
audio in the past 25 years. Pradeep of Supreme audio said, "On Monday, I
opened my shop at 5 in the morning. When I reached there, there was a long
queue waiting to purchase the Shivaji audio in front my two shops. It was
quite unbelievable. One person, who had come there with a mini CD player,
listened to the songs on the spot. He distributed sweets to the gathering
there immediately after he felt satisfied with the Shivaji songs. This is
really amazing, and I have never experienced any thing like it. The whowle
country hasnt experienced anything like this. The super star has breathed a
new life into the audio market through his film Shivaji. There is no doubt
that Rajini has always ruled southern cinema and he is the real super star in
the country!"

Probably going withe present hype, AVM Productions has plans to bring out a
short film about the making of the film. No other Indian film has created so
much hype like Shivaji has done in India or abroad. This film will be an
unforgettable one for its producer AVM Saravanan, who is going to complete his
50th anniversary in film production. Before Shivaji, he has worked with the
Superstar in 8 films. Before this, none of his films have made excited him so
much neither has any of his films made him as proud as Shivaji has. In fact
Shivaji, alias Rajini, has given a new life to the legendary production house
on its 70th anniversary. Before the announcement of Shivaji, there was
distribution of the ownership rights of the AVM Studios between the AVM
brothers. AVM Saravanan got a lesser portion of the Studio premises. At this
critical situation, he gave away the entire rights of the Tamil films produced
under AVM banner to his younger brother AVM. Balasubramanian.

At a time when Saravanan was planning for some other projects to survive in
the industry, Rajini came forward to allot his prestigious call sheets. He
recommended Shankar's name to direct Shivaji. After the formal announcement of
this project, the entire industry was up and about. There are hundreds and
thousands of news, gossips, and debates doing the rounds about this film in
the media, as well as the public. It is Shivaji, which has kept online
journalists always in alert. For the first time in the world, some of the
portals 'released' the complete songs of the movie with lyric notes online.
But the curiosity for this film hasn't faded due to this leak. Infact, it has
helped a lot in the film's overseas popularity, in a different way.

Keeping all these facts in mind, AVM Saravanan has asked the director to shoot
a film on the making of Shivaji, simultaneously with the film. This film might
feature all the stars including the 'King of Southern Cinema' Rajini and the
director Shankar. Other technicians, including the incredible A.R. Rahman,
cameraman, lyricists, dance masters, stunt masters...will share their
unforgettable moments of association with Rajini and the film, Shivaji, in
this curtain-raiser. The crew has titled this as 'Making of Shivaji - The
Boss' and it will be of one hour in length. The CD and DVD of this short film
will be circulated to the press at th

[arr] Re: Provoked might release as well..

2007-04-04 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
I support Amit's efforts. Can Vijay / Gopal / Ronojoy have word put
in to the right people ? Considering the group strength of 11000
members ( and counting more day by day ), I am sure, that a first
print of minimum 2000 CDS will be soldout in no time.

Please ! Do it for the fans !

2007-04-04 Thread logesh kum-arr

Actually I like all the songs in Sivaji ,
except the Athiradi song...
I too feel Rahman should not have selected this song,
But I can see I could slowly after hearing it many times,
it is a different genre, I like it that he has done something different,
but it may take time for me to love it.
