[arr] DVD-Audio: anyone interested?

2007-05-25 Thread kaissiom
Hello Rahmaniacs,

It was a couple of years back that I accidentally or unintentionally
came across a method of fetching *voiceless* BGMs. And
co-incidentally, at around the same time our dear friend AJ (where are
you AJ?) also discovered another way of doing the same thing. It was
music to the ears and treat for the fans. We've come a long way
since, many other wonderful people in the group have joined the BGM
frenzy since. I admit, I have become selfish enough to keep the newer
BGMs to myself for quite some time now, but there are multiple reasons
for that, which could be the subject of a whole another topic. But
this time around, it's another breakthrough, DVD-Quality music.

In my personal opinion, in this "i-pod" age, there are 3 types of
music listeners in general:
A) People that are size conscious (due to the limitations of the
hard-drive on their i-pod/computer)

B) People that are quality conscious (want the best quality regardless
of size)

C) People that are neither type-A nor type-B and basically have no
preference and could care less about the technical details.

Well, I happen to be a hardcore type-B person. And if you happen to
be type-B, carry on reading, and if you are not type-B, but still
interested, you are also welcome.

I could care less about the size on my hard-drive, as long as I can
grab hold of the highest quality Rahman music out there. It is a
pretty straight forward logic, as the size of the song goes down, the
quality goes down. Although, the 5 MB, 128 kpbs song sounds great and
you can't tell the difference on your ipod, the difference becomes
quite noticeable on a hi-fi system or when playing the music on loud
volume. I personally store Rahman's music at the highest quality on
my computer or my "ipod" (I actually don't like ipods, I have a
Creative Zen M, if you want quality, I would recommend Creative). The
huge file sizes do reduce the number of songs I can have, but going
with a bigger HD takes care of that problem.

So, in my pursuit of "high quality" Rahman music, I had yet another
breakthrough… DVD-Quality music. I have been quietly, one at a time,
ripping DVD music of all of my Rahman DVDs. Let's not forget that we
already have the highest-quality audio available in the market for
these movies in form of original Audio CDs. But the DVD audio I'm
ripping is unarguably superior. I now have 3 x each of Rahman's
songs. 1) in highest quality mp3 format, 2) in Audio CD format, 3) in
DVD music format. Yes, call me a Rah-maniac, when I said I'm a
hardcore type-B person, I meant it.

Just based on simple logic of relation between file size and quality
here's how they stack up: Example, Chotti si Aasha from Roja, run
time: Approximately 5 minutes.

1) Highest quality mp3 format, 320 kbps:
File Size(approx.): 11.3 MB

2) Audio CD, wav format:
File Size(approx.): 48.3 MB

3) DVD-Quality audio, wma format:
File Size(approx.): 81.2 MB

Well, does it really make a difference? You have to listen to it to
believe it. You can hear all the minute details and all instruments
in back quite clearly. The highs are sharper and the basses are
lower. I mean I could talk all about it, but unless you hear it, you
won't know.

Well, assuming that we are all Rahman fans on this group, and assuming
that all of the "fans" should at least have Roja in their collection,
I'm hesitantly willing to sharing ONE song from Roja in DVD quality.
Why you may ask? Because I would hate to keep the gem to myself. It
is an experience every fan should experience. I can not describe it
in words...the joy of listening to Roja, Chor Chor, Bombay, Sapnay,
Duet, etc. in DVD Quality music.

What triggered my quest for this High-quality sound was that one post
on this group, where someone posted a Thiruda Thiruda song and claimed
it was DVD audio. I got excited, downloaded it, listened to it and I
could swear it can not be DVD quality audio, because the sound on the
Audio CD was definitely better. That was it! I decided to find out
what DVD quality audio would really sound like. I'm actually very
happy with my discovery, although it means more hard-drive space. But
I know sooner or later someone in this group will post more of these,
just like the BGMs.

The other beauty of this DVD-quality music is that it is in wma format
and can be burned on to a regular CD and played on any system that
plays burned CDs. Essentially, you burned CD will have the version of
the song that is better(quality) than the version on original CD. I
recommend you burn this song and listen to it in a hi-fi system if
possible or using a decent pair of headphones (B&O, Sennheiser, Bose,
SHURE) And if you can't listen to it on a hi-fi system now, you could
probably keep it for future use.

But before I post anything, I was not even sure if anyone would
actually be interested in this high-quality audio. I mean I truly
don't know if people care about quality or size for that matter or is
it just me? Why post some

[arr] ‘Naan M.G.Ramachandran’- Sivaji: The Boss

2007-05-25 Thread yasheer_ar2

`Naan M.G.Ramachandran'- Sivaji: The
Boss
By Behindwoods NewsBureau.
May 24, 2007

The wait is agonizing for any Rajni fan. We
have been counting days right from April and
we are still counting not knowing when Shankar
actually plans to get Sivaji-The Boss in theaters.
Shankar does have a strong mind of his own, how else
can we explain this delay in Sivaji's
release, AVM is never known to have a late
release and all previous Rajni films have
hit theaters on the announced date without
fail, even when he had suffered a dislocated
shoulder on the sets of Baba.
  [Sivaji]

Another thing, there is always an uncanny way in which
different versions of the story of a Shankar movie find
their way into the press. There were umpteen versions
of Anniyan's story doing the rounds until the movie
released and proved nearly all of them wrong. In this
context, it is hard to believe anything that you hear
about Sivaji's story.

But then, it is a Superstar movie and who wouldn't
want to know even the smallest detail about it. The style,
the action, the punch dialogues and the Superstar phenomenon
unleashing itself on the screen frame after frame. Three
hours of unabated thrill, excitement, cheers and a two
year long wait attaining fulfillment. For the Rajni fan
this is nothing short of Nirvana; salvation. So, for those
of you who are dying to know what your idol (sorry, our
idol) will be doing on screen this time round we have
something. It is not exactly a rumor as Sivaji has already
been screened to a select audience but it is not straight
from the horse's mouth either. This is what you
may see on screen from June 15th (if Shankar does not
get any further ideas of improvisation). So read and imagine
how Superstar will parade his majesty on the big screen,
deliver the dialogues with peerless style and enthrall
us all. Please don't bridle your imagination if
you want to enjoy this.
Sivaji is this rich man to begin with, trying to take
education beyond just the rich people into the poor
but deserving population. He opposes bribery, corruption
and all the vices that plague the system (please keep
imagining the Superstar doing these things). He makes
enemies, as will anyone who tries to do any good to
the society. The enemies hatch a plot and decide to
get Superstar out of their way. The plan nearly succeeds
but Sivaji survives and escapes to the United States
(living to fight another day) where he gathers his forces
and plans his comeback; in style. When he comes back
he is not the same man who left India, his head is shaved
and he now has a deadly killer look about him, after
all he is out to destroy those who conspired against
him. At a certain point in the film one of his adversaries
(possibly unable to identify him in his new get up)
asks him (now imagine clearly the Superstar on the big
screen) `Who are you'?-- `
Naan M.G.Ramachandran' comes the reply.

Take our word; this scene will make fans go crazy, three
generations will break into frenzy in unison as Superstar
introduces himself. Sivaji-The Boss, please release
soon, this wait is getting too much for us.

[arr] Rahman's anthem for Taj Mahal: NEW CONTENT

2007-05-25 Thread Thulasi Ram

http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/31347.html

Music maestro A R Rahman unveiled a soulful anthem to kick off the India
Unites for the Taj movement. Spear headed by 1 Media Corp Limited (IMCL),
the movement is to campaign for voting the Taj Mahal, Agra, to the New Seven
Wonders of the World.

According to Bharat Kapadia, India Unites for the Taj, 'Rahman was our first
choice to compose the album.

Rahman says, "I was in London when IMCL contacted me and I was very excited
about composing the album. It was a very short notice, but my crew and I
grabbed the idea and made special time for working on the anthem. I am sure
Indians all over the world will be motivated and vote for the Taj".

Besides composing the tune, Rahman has penned the lyrics along with Raqeeb
and has sung the song accompanied by Naresh Iyer and Karthik. The music
video is directed by Owais Hussain with cinematography by Santosh Sivan.

A worldwide poll is undertaken through mobile phones, the internet and the
select landlines to garner votes for the shortlisted 21 wonders vying for a
place among the New Seven Wonders.

"Contrary to popular beliefs, the Taj Mahal was never part of any seven
wonders list. Given the low voting in India, we are trying all means to
promote the cause of Taj Mahal", adds Bharat Kapadia. The new Seven Wonders
of the World will be announced at an official declaration in Lisbon,
Portugal, on 7 July.

Subject: [arr] DVD-Audio: anyone interested?

File Size(approx. ): 11.3 MB

2) Audio CD, wav format:

File Size(approx. ): 48.3 MB

3) DVD-Quality audio, wma format:

File Size(approx. ): 81.2 MB

Essentially, you burned CD will have the version of

the song that is better(quality) than the version on orig

[arr] Rahman's word on Tajmahal

2007-05-25 Thread Thulasi Ram

http://www.moneycontrol.com/india/news/trivia/taj-mahal-asworld-wonder/283304

The Taj Mahal needs your help!

The I Media Corp Ltd, IMCL is working to create awareness for a campaign,
This is the 'vote the Taj Mahal to the New Seven Wonders of the World'
campaign. At present, Indian participation has been dismal - only 2% of
Indians have voted. The Taj has come in second last on a list of 21 final
entries.

To be eligible for this worldwide contest, structures must have been in
existence from the beginning of the previous century."Any proud Indian would
want to vote. Any romantic person, or who has loved should vote, as the Taj
is a symbol of love. Today Taj is beyond belief, caste or religion. Anyone
who loves should vote," says the Chairman of India Unites for the Taj,
Bharat Kapadia.

Music composer AR Rahman is doing his bit. He has composed an anthem
especially to promote the cause. There will also be a video to accompany the
composition, which you can expect to see on television soon.

"The Taj is more than just a marble structure. It has gone beyond Shah Jehan
and Mumtaz Mahal, and become a symbol of romamnce. It belongs to us, and our
pride is now at stake," enthuses Rahman.

There will be exposure through write-ups, TV commercials, airing of the
Rehman song (it has a video to go with it), mobile vans, hoardings ... the
works. Hopefully, the hype will garner the 30 crore votes, which Kapadia
feels the Taj Mahal will need to make it to the elite list.

So get out those mobile phones and vote by sending an SMS 'TAJ' to 4567 or
log on to http://www.indiainfo.com. Results will be declared on July 7,
2007.

[arr] Rahman's GOLDEN words on TajMahal

2007-05-25 Thread Thulasi Ram

"When I was offered this, I just took it blindly. It was an honour to do
this. The Taj is - is beyond religion. It is not just a building of marble.
What has gone into it and what it has become. It's no more about Shahjahan
or Mumtaj, it's ours, and our pride is at stake," said Rahman. "If you have
loved in your life, if you are loving now or if you are going to love later
here's an opportunity to feel good about voting for the monument of love.
Vote right now…. before July…," Rahman appealed to the people.

http://www.my-india.net/cgi-bin/p/m/n/viewnews.cgi?newsid1180112317,34308,

Mumbai May 25, (ANI): Renowned music director A.R. Rahman has launched a
campaign to include Taj Mahal among the 'Seven Wonders of the World, by
releasing a soulful and resonant anthem to motivate people to vote for the
Indian architectural marvel. IMedia Corp Limited, a media company acting as
the official voting facilitator for the campaign, roped in Rahman for this,
following an abysmally low voting from the country. "When I was offered
this, I just took it blindly. It was an honour to do this. The Taj is - is
beyond religion. It is not just a building of marble. What has gone into it
and what it has become. It's no more about Shahjahan or Mumtaj, it's ours,
and our pride is at stake," said Rahman. "If you have loved in your life, if
you are loving now or if you are going to love later here's an opportunity
to feel good about voting for the monument of love. Vote right now…. before
July…," Rahman appealed to the people. The new seven wonders will be chosen
on the basis of number of votes received from across the globe with the
winning landmarks being announced in a live broadcast on July 7, 2007 in
Portugal. The 21 finalists in this list also include Rome's Colosseum,
Jordan's ancient city of Petra, Britain's Stonehenge, Great Wall of China.
These were shortlisted on January 1 by a panel of experts chaired by the
former head of UNESCO, Federico Mayor. In the 17th century, Mughal emperor
Shahjahan built the Taj Mahal as a symbol of his enduring love for his wife
Mumtaz. It stands on a marble platform in the city of Agra, 200 km (125
miles) south of Delhi, and is surrounded by ornamental gardens. (ANI)
