Even after repeated listenings close to or surpassing 1000 times, I never find myself being bored of the music, despite knowing each and every note and sound to come in the next second. Hi all, I have one doubt regarding SDM movie... Since when did Rahman started to work in this movie? Usually whenever Rahman signs a movie, atleast within a month we come to know about that. But I think we heard about Slumdog millionaire only before one month (I guess it's through Mr. Matt Islam). Above all else, he is a stunning visualist who produces memorable footage that helps his films overcome other narrative weaknesses. I wasnât sure if his latest film,Slumdog Millionaire would appeal to me as much as the other two, given that it is a complete departure from his tense zombie film or his hard sci-fi adventure. The film is a decidedly more human and more earthy tale about a young man who grew up on the streets of India, who finds himself a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, having to face accusations of fraud for his ability to make it to the final question. The film follows his life through flashbacks, allowing Boyle to show off his ability for making dynamic images with the bright colours of Mumbai, without losing the humanity of his characters. And it works. This might be my favourite Boyle film yet. Verdict: Smashing Success - Easily my favourite movie of the festival so far, this one is a real crowd-pleaser, with emotional highs and lows, some genuine laughs, some tears, and a tense finale. I could start a listing of hyperbole after hyperbole and I would not be exaggerating one bit on how I feel about this movie. This is the movie that has made TIFF worthwhile by itself, and I can't recommend it strongly enough. The movie starts with Jamal, played by Dev Patel being tortured by Irfan Khan, the police inspector. He wants to know how someone from the slums could answer so many questions correctly on India's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. After Jamal is unwilling to admit to cheating during the torture they put him in front of a TV and one by one they go through the questions with him explaining how he knew the answers. Using this premise Danny Boyle is able to provide the audience with one of the most truthful, heartfelt stories that is so much more than the simple romance which it could have been. One by one Jamal explains how he grew up with his brother Salim in the slums and how they became orphans and how they were taken in by gangsters who had the worst of intentions when it came to the young boys. We see time and time again Latika played by Freida Pinto come and go from Jamal's life. All of his life in the slums of India have lead him to this point has lead him to where he is today. And each flashback gives beautifully told glimpses into the life of the poor in India as well as being a wonderful story. I have yet to see Millions but I had heard before going in that Danny Boyle had a knack for getting the best out of child actors and I now fully believe it. Question by question we see Jamil, Salim and Latika age in front of us. We see them during their times of happiness and during the moments in their lives when everything has been turned upside down on them. Never once did I question the emotions and the acting of any of these children. Each and everyone of them were near perfect in their roles. Never once did question the love Jamil had for Latika nor how Salim could end up on a dark path. It has been a while since a movie has touched me like Slumdog Millionaire did and from the reaction of the audience I am not alone. The applause for it was thunderous and I have never seen an audience clap along with the music in the closing credits. Danny Boyle has truly succeeded in creating a pitch perfect wonderful optimistic yet truthful movie that I am going to watch over and over again for a great many years. http://www.quietearth.us/articles/2008/09/08/TIFF-08-Review-of-SLUMDOG-MILLIONARE -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always

[arr] The Theme song by A.R. Rahman is the highlight - Slumdog Millionaire
The film is often gritty and violent but the story of two boys and a girl, who are orphaned in the Bombay riots and who look out for each other (at least for most part), is full of heart wrenching moments and ends on a life affirming note. The theme song of the film, composed by A R Rahman and sung by Sukhvinder Singh, is one of the film's highlights. It is used, for the second time in the film, at the very end when the newly minted millionaire (a brilliant Dev Patel) and his newly reunited girlfriend (newcomer Freida Pinto http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2008/jun/16slid1.htm) are joined by dozens of children in a glorious dance number. The film uses Hindi extensively but about half of the dialogue and comments are in English. http://inhome.rediff.com/movies/2008/sep/09slum.htm -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always

Put this one on your to see list, and make sure to stick around during the final credits. http://andythesaint.wordpress.com/2008/09/08/tiff-08-day-4/

Toronto Film Festival unspools 'Slumdog Millionaire' Tuesday, September 9th 2008, 12:03 PM Director Danny Boyle, actress Freida Pinto and actor Del Patel arrive at the premiere of 'Slumdog Millionaire' At the 2007 Toronto Film Festival, I watched an ecstatic audience erupt with delight when director Jason Reitman stepped onstage after the first screening of Juno. And this year, I saw the very same thing happen again at the premiere of Slumdog Millionaire. With the first weekend of the festival past, it's clear that we've found our crowd-pleaser—the one everybody's talking about, and everyone wants to see. Interestingly, though, it's Juno's complete opposite in style: it's not self-consciously clever, or quirky, or intimate. On the contrary, it's as epic in scope as its setting, the teeming city of Mumbai. As Boyle said yesterday, he was inspired by the city's millions of beating hearts, and you feel that energy pulsing through every frame. Based on a bestselling Indian novel called Q and A, Millionaire tells the story of an orphan named Jamal (Dev Patel), who is about to win a Hindi edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (The show is almost exactly the same as ours, with a host played by Indian superstar Anil Kapoor.) When the movie begins, Jamal has been arrested by police officers who don't believe someone of such a low caste could possibly know enough to win a game show. We're given four options: either he's a cheat, a genius, incredibly lucky, or simply facing his destiny. His explanation to the officers takes us back through his difficult life, in which each new challenge has helped get him closer to his ultimate reward. Which, as it turns out, isn't a game show payoff at all. Millionaire isn't a perfect movie, but it is a rare and very special one, the likes of which we don't often find in the West. (Boyle was heavily influenced by Bollywood productions.) And when you see it in November, make sure to stay through the closing credits, which inspired Toronto viewers to cheer with an energy that—believe it or not--actually eclipsed the thunderous ovation a certain pregnant teen earned here last year. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/2008/09/09/2008-09-09_toronto_film_festival_unspools_slumdog_m.html
[arr] AR Rahman logo - available?
Hi, I was watching the after-match interview of US Open with Roger Federer (RF) when I noticed the very distinguishable RF on his cap; that was when I also remembered about Michael Schumacher having his own brand logo in the form of an F1 car. Does ARR have one? If not yet, could some of the artists in the group think of one? The arrahman.com site and wikipedia could serve as good propaganda platforms once launched. Regards. It's been a very, very long time, possibly since Taal, has a Rahman album had such a long lasting, dominating grip on my CD rotations. Even after repeated listenings close to or surpassing 1000 times, I never find myself being bored of the music, despite knowing each and every note and sound to come in the next second. There is a certain majestic spiritual evergreen to this music which seems to refresh me with each listen. Each song carries so much weight, like a crown full of different colored jewels. It just sounds so fresh each time! Khwaja is the most played song on it for me and not a day has gone by since the release of JA have I not listened to Khwaja Mere Khwaja. I have never done this with a Rahman song or any other song for that matter...listening to it at least once every day now for 230 days now and counting. -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always
[arr] Drona Music Review - Rahmantic touch
Nanhe Nanhe is sweetness personified in the honey-soaked vocals of Sadhana Sargam. Basically a lullaby, this one isn't one of those usual emotional 'lori' but is supported by a rich melody, which gives it a distinct identity. Though it would sound as an overstatement, Dhruv does show an ability to induce a harmonic feel in his compositions which is quite characteristic of A R Rehman. The title track and Nanhe Nanhe are testimony to the claim. The final track Khushi by Shaan is a jazz number with liberal use of trumpet and drums. The last pure jazz we heard was the less popular track Main Bolu in A R Rahman's voice from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na . This one falls in the same genre but since the variety isn't much recognized here, it doesn't have an instant appeal. http://www.apnicommunity.com/bollywood-forum/74034-music-review-drona.html -- regards, Vithur ARR -- The Sweet Cube always

[arr] What About ARR+Mahesh Babu+PuriJagannath+Soundarya Rajnikanth's Combo
Mahesh Babu to dance to A.R. Rahman's tunes After composing tune for Pawan Kalyan's S.J. Surya directed flick music maestro A.R. Rahman will likely be providing the music for director Puri Jagannadh's Mahesh Babu starrer. This Warner Brother production, in association with Soundarya's (Rajnikanth's daughter) production company, will be a trilingual film. This is the first time that a Telugu film star has been signed on by a international production company's regional film. We will have to wait and watch if the Puri-Mahesh combination can repeat the Pokiri magic. http://www.ragalahari.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4106 http://www.ragalahari.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4106
[arr] Why no one is excited about Yuvvraaj ?
Hi all, Music of Subhash Ghai's Yuvvraaj composed by our boss is releasing in oct but no one seem to be interested in the music, even Ada managed to get more attention and enthusiasm before music release, everyone seems to be looking towards the future i.e Ghajini Robot, why do people forget when subhash ghai last joined hands with boss they created magic in Taal, for an album to be successful not just good music but marketing the album is also important which Ada unfortunately did not get, but with Yuvraaj I think our boss's music will get maximum exposure and chance to succeed, look at the music piece in the promo, its just amazing Thanks N Ali
