[arr] M. Night Shyamalan with Shankar for Endhiran

2008-09-18 Thread yasheer_ar2

  [Manoj Night Shyamalan]
M.Night Shyamalan with Shankar for
Endhiran
-By Behindwoods News Bureau, USA

Thoughunderway in full earnest in
Peru with the shootingof a song,
there seem to be things about Endhiran
that are still troubling Shankar's mind. It
is no secret that Endhiran, then Robot, was
affected by the demise of writer Sujatha. He
had been a trusted associate and screen writer
for Shankar. We had reported that Shankar had
called upon writer Balakumaran to fill the void.
Balakumaran had earlier worked with Shankar
in Gentleman, Kadhalan and Jeans.

But even after the completion of scripting works,
Shankar seems to see room for improvement, trademarks
of a perfectionist. With the sci-fi specialist
Sujatha no longer around to give the much needed
advice, Shankar has chosen to look beyond Kollywood,
beyond Bollywood and into Hollywood. Shankar
seems to have set sight on Manoj Night Shyamalan,
known for making films like Sixth Sense, The
Village, Unbreakable, Signs and The Happening.
Shyamalan may not be a complete sci-fi specialist
but he knows how to keep people on their toes
and that's exactly what Shankar wants. The top
Kollywood director is said to have approached
Shyamalan for discussing the finer elements
of the script of Endhiran.

Now we don't know what the exact role
of Manoj Night Shyamalan might be in
Endhiran, maybe that of a script
consultant. We also are not sure whether
Shyamalan has accepted to work in the project,
because there are news about him moving on to
his next project in Hollywood and he is also known
to be very choosy in what he does, especially
after having opted out of a chance to script an
Indiana Jones movie. Let's hope things come together
well and that Shankar is able to convince Shyamalan.

I hope nobody says, he has lost it.. or something negative and
judgemental. Please try to be objective and focus on the music itself
instead of airing opinions comparing old ARR and new ARR.

One thing I've noticed is the use of more nuanced symphonic
arrnagements in his later soundtracks. ARR has always blended Western
classical elements with traditional Indian music like nobody else
could or ever will probably. However, I have noticed that of late,
his arrnagements have been more crowded and less minimalistic as
compared to his previous works, while being more nuanced at the same
time. With increasing arrnagement density in his latter soundtracks
with more nuanced symphonic undercurrents, it becomes all the more
important to use better sound mixing and mastering techniques to allow
the denser track layerings their own individual crispness and
distinctiveness. A successful example would be Jodha Akbar and Jaane
Tu. A less successful example would be Rang De Basanti and parts of
Swades and Guru, where I did not feel the crystal crispness in sound
production. Post 1997, with improved sound technology, I have noticed
that he did not have to tweak the trebble levels as high as his
previous works, which gave a warmer, more analogue sound to the
recordings.

Overall, I find his music nowadays to be perhaps less radical in its
conceptual format with safer in the box creativity, but brilliantly
creative nonetheless. Since his arrival, many others have followed
his path and hence, because of the dominating influence of his own
sound and style in the music industry, ARR himself is victim to his
own revolutionary undertakings in that he does not stand out as much
as he used to. Yet, his music still has his strong signature and
stamp of assured quality that nobody can beat. I also feel that his
sense of melodic composition has improved over time in terms of
smoothness and ear friendlyness, and with more breathing room for the
singer. Yet, this may be at the sacrifice of out of the blue musical
concepts, which dominated his earlier scenes. In other words, he
plays it safer these days, which is not necessarily wrong. And that's
a relative term too. He still belts out incredible songs with
ingenious hooks. This may just be a natural consequence of his aging
and maturing mind and the backdrop of the current music scene.

Salman overwhelmed with 'Yuvvraaj' throws a wrap up party!
By MovieTalkies.com, 17 September 2008

Last Sunday, Salman Khan finished his last day of shooting and
dubbing for Subhash Ghai's 'Yuvvraaj'. Salman was so overwhelmed
with the way the film has shaped up that he invited the entire cast
and crew at his house for a wrap up party at his Bandra residence.
Like all his parties in the past, this one was also very lavished
and Salman played a great host making the entire cast and crew feel
at home. Salman could not stop praising all the artiste and
technicians who had worked on the film making it a great musical
spectacular. Mr Ghai also praised Salman saying that he will
surprise everyone in Yuvvraaj and both he and Katrina are magic on
screen.
Yuvvraaj is showman's most ambitious and expensive film till date
with music by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Gulzar.

Couldn’t stop myself from quoting this, even though all wanted to stop this
conversation..but I really was pretty annoyed when I read this..
It was during the FilmFare awards, when Karthik Raja won R.D.Burman award for…I
think it is Grahan, when asked to comment he said…
A.R.Rahman is not a composer at all, and my god I am not answering any more
questions regarding that as I don’t want to get into controversy

Well..history speaks for itself…doesn’t it???

Another comment which also irritates me to the core was a comment made by some
other music director that Lagaan needed a much better score…he also said that
all the cats are playing since the Lion (referring to himself) is out of the
game lately!!!

Now..what I really love from our boss is his simplicity…I can never even has a
nightmare of our Boss making such comments….

Great…we are going to have a musical feast with soo many up-coming A.R.Rahman
releases :)
Also, I seriously hope and pray that our boss does What’s your Rashee…cant
imagine an Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film without the music by our Boss

2008-09-18 Thread Pravinder Sheoran
Hi Chord,
Good write up, nicely explained.
I can only add up a few simple things:

His music is not as hard as it used to be in past, maybe that's why
the life of the latest ARR songs is not as long as of the earlier songs.

Some childish (or naughty to be exact) stuff that we used to find here
or there in his earlier songs has been omitted lately and is replaced
by mature (or standard) stuff. Perhaps this is the reason why his
earlier work sounded fresher than the later.

In early times his music had more western elements in it which
gradually shifted to Indian classical in his recent work.

'Melody Part' of his music has been enhanced enormously lately.

His love with flute continues though. Its perhaps the only thing which
prevailed constantly in his music, however the flute effect was more
distinguished in early times.

His love with experimenting with singers continues. I think he has
been more liberal in his choice of singers lately though.

His inclination toward Sufi Music can easily be noticed in recent times.

And at last...

Our love and passion for his music is still the same, maybe more. I
believe this is something we will carry throughout our lifetime. Do
not be surprised if one of us will start the topic What trends in
ARR's music have you noticed from Roja to now on 18/09/2058.

Pravinder.

A R Rahman in 2020.

I am cent percent sure that only Rahman will survive   in 2020 when
compared to other MD s. When i think this lot of thinks came to me.
In2020 how ar's music will be, what changes will occur likewise. I am
sharing my opinion regarding this.

1) In 2020 there will be chance for more technogy oriented songs at it's
peak from Rahman .

2) Animation movies and it's music will be common. I think ar might be
do that.

3) Within 2020 there is a high chance for Oscar award for an indian film
and possibly that movie's music might be AR.

4) More International acclaimfor Rahman.

5) There is a chance for Rahman will be one of the top choices for
Hollywood movies.

The great ARR does not need any certificates or defenses or comparisons, as to
His contemporary musical excellence and contemporary musical superiority. It is
my personal, repeat personal, opinion that HE reached Himalayan heights and one
need not make another one small, to make ARR look bigger. ARR is at once human
and humane. God fearing. Exudes humility. Displays understanding and reverence,
where they are deserved and are due. These rare attributes are, in addition to
the Divine music that flows from him like perennial sacred river, in which each
one of us are getting immersed, with pleasure, day in and day out. In other
words, what I am trying to think loud is, instead of spending so many words in
defending, where defense is absolutely superfluous, THE Musical BOSS. And a
lesser number of words on saying or proving, where proof is not needed, that
others are not as good and as original, we all can listen to a particular song
composed by our ARR,
say on a Monday, and the rest of the week, we can say what nuances we detected
and what twists we did not notice earlier, on which spots the Genius is more
evident and how and where the instrumentalists excelled and where one liked the
singer's contribution most. This will facilitate the not so observant also to
enjoy the song more. The song of the week will, thus, be owned by all,
literally, with full awareness.
Please ignore if this is impracticable and not in the interests of this Group
of ARR-fans.

these three will compete with each other to win the trophy, says our
source.

This time there is a special guest in the up coming episode of Junoon. It's
none other than Miss World Priyanka Chopra. She enjoyed seeing the
performances and especially liked Harshdeep's performance, adds our
khabroo.

Harshdeep has a rare combination of melody, charm, talent, Riaz and guts.
This beautiful voice is a gift to her by her father who was also her mentor.
She is a big fan of A R Rehman. According to her the secret of singing so
well is the simplicity of songs which touch the heart of audiences.

The Grand Finale of Junoon will be graced by Amitabh Bachchan and son
Abhishek, states our source.

It's going to be tough competition between the three and may the best singer
and Gharana win!!

[arr] SONG OF THE WEEK | Let's select one, every week

2008-09-18 Thread rahmanfever
I'm interested to discuss about a Song/Theme/Background Score of ARR
every week as Mr. C S Rao said in his post..
Let's everyone select a 'Song of the Week' every weekend ??

Let's me start with my selection for this week..

I go for 'The Banyan Theme'. I don't have a good quality mp3 of this
track but still I enjoy it a lot every time when I listen to this track.
ARR composed this song for an organization called 'The Banyan' which
provides home and rehabilitation for the poor who are battered, bruised,
brutally abused, ignored by everybody, eating out of garbage bins and
with no place to call home in the society..

This Theme and the Video really move each and every heart and fill tears
in our eyes.. Another touching song by Rahmanji who's helping the world
to MAKE THE POVERTY A HISTORY.. There's no lyrics in the theme but only
Humming. But whenever I listen to this track, I can feel some meanings
in those hummings.. it's like creating an awareness among us, about our
duties and to have a kind heart to help the poor and needy.. I'm still
trying to find out the Vocalist for this track ( Please find out and
tell me :-) ) I listened to this theme more than 100 times this week
and I'm really in love with this track, more than ever.. The Song starts
with a soothing tune and the humming enters into our ears with some
never before heard feel.. The theme has a great flow from a low octave
to high with some heavy beats in the background.. But still the humming
soothes our heart n soul.. Towards the end we can clearly hear the
masterpiece voice of ARR.. It's like the maa... in the beginning
of Vande mataram Song.. :-) The theme ends with the touching beginning
tune and the vocals.. No words !

I don't know how many of you have listened to this track or seen the
video..
Here's the download link anyway..
http://rapidshare.com/files/19683148/Banyan_theme_audio.mp3
http://rapidshare.com/files/19683148/Banyan_theme_audio.mp3
The Quality is not so good.. Please forgive.. :-) Thanks to Aditya for
this link..

If anyone here has a good quality mp3 please post it.. And I don't have
the Video with me.. Kindly someone post that too to enjoy the ever
haunting feel of the theme..

I don't know for how many days I keep on listening to this track
whenever I feel sad or happy.. But for me this is the SONG OF THE WEEK !
:-) :-)

Thank you all.. PEACE.

Re: [arr] What trends in ARR's music have you noticed from Roja to now?

2008-09-18 Thread Pradeepan R
Friends,
I've just poured out my mind.
Please don't get bored with it...Would love to hear other's perspectives on
ARR .

*Earlier Trends in ARR Music:*

*1) sad / sombre songs:
* Early in his career, most of his sad songs were of typical soul/Blue
genre.
he used a repeating pattern .
eg: Tu Hire - Bombay
 Oh Vennila - Kadhal Desam.
 Roja Jaaneman - Roja.

*2) Use of a repeating loop with plucked-string instrument.
*For many slow placed songs, he used a very simple repeating loop using
guitar/veena/sitar/etc.,
eg: Revival - Vande Mataram.
Then Kizhaku cheemayila - Kizhaku Cheemayile
Nila Kaaigiradhu - Indra (Hari Haran version)

*3) Lavish use of 'Vocal' support from Backing singers in Interludes:
*Many a times he has done entire interludes with just group vocals. (most
cases they words are just gibberish)
eg: Hairaba - jeans (2nd interlude)
Kannum Kannum - Thiruda Thirurda rock song (2nd interlude by Sujatha)
Take it easy Urvasi - Kadhalan (Anupama in interlude)
Kehna hi Kya/Kannalane - Bombay (female chorus for interlude)
Lucky Lucky - Ratchagan (2nd interlude)

*4) Use of Cello/Double Bass/Other Low-pitched instruments for Loop:
*eg: Dil Se Re - Dil Se
Romeo Aatam Potaal - Mr. Romeo
Ishq Bina - Taal
Anbe Anbe - Jeans.
Hello doctor - Kadhal Desam

*More Recent Trends in ARR Music.*

*5) Use of Guitar/other accoustic with slightly higher pitched sounds as
loop : (Compare with point 4)
*eg: Kabhi Kabhi Aditi - JTYJN
New York Nagaram - SOK
Lukka Chupi - RDB
YeH tara - Swades (tonk ta tonk ..tonk ta tonk loop)
Akilan Akilan - Alai Payuthey

*6) Declining use of a commercial Synthesizer loops:
*This is a well known thing.
eg: Telephone Mani pol - Indian
Of late its his own Loop. SOmtimes additional rythm programmers are hired to
do specific songs.

*7) Extravagant usage of Symphonic elements
*We can see him preferring more more symphonic sounding arrangements even
to ordinary present-day time movies.
eg: Increased use of strings as an accompaniment to the main singer
throughtout the song.

*8) Declining use of the strange Flute sounds.
*Why keep doing it when every other guy is now trying to do it.
So the flute pieces from Ay Rama (Rangeela) are not used much now.
But the flute still rules in ARR's studio.

*9) Happier Tunes moving more towards Punjabi/Bhangra style.
Beats moving from Disco style to more Reggae Style.
*  classic eg:
Compare beats of Chicku Bukku (Gentleman) to latest Taxi Taxi (Sakkarakati)

Having said this, its still impossible to Define ARR or his music.
Every film in every period has had its share of innovation surprise.
*ARR is still a Work in Progress.
*As I've said before, the last thing that I need is, to take a 5 year break
to Mars, and come back find no difference in ARR's compositions.
A brilliant artist evolves with time. and ARR is that much more.

On Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 9:48 PM, Chord [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I also feel that his
sense of melodic composition has improved over time in terms of
smoothness and ear friendlyness, and with more breathing room for the
singer. Yet, this may be at the sacrifice

the nadaswaram bit is musical brilliance.. adds immense texture to the
beauty of that powerful song. scintillating stuff.. it evokes the passion,
which what is ARRs music can do i.e. create magic.

Pls find attached the end bit of Vetri Kodi Katttu song, which actually
comes in a different fashion in the film. In the movie, actually, this song
ends with a Nadaswaram bit, as its the marriage scene of Rajni's sister.

Superb... Also attached the K.S. Ravikumar BGM from the same movie. This
comes after the end of the Title song ' En peru padaiyappa'. The Director
takes credirs of putting his name when this BGM comes, and I started
 addressing it as KSR BGM...

When Rajni climbs to break the pot. Just awesome Enjoy...

I'm interested to discuss about a Song/Theme/Background Score of ARR
every week as Mr. C S Rao said in his post..
Let's everyone select a 'Song of the Week' every weekend ??

Let's me start with my selection for this week..

I go for *'The Banyan Theme'. *I don't have a good quality mp3 of this
track but still I enjoy it a lot every time when I listen to this track. ARR
composed this song for an organization called 'The Banyan' which provides
home and rehabilitation for the poor who are battered, bruised, brutally
abused, ignored by everybody, eating out of garbage bins and with no place
to call home in the society..

This Theme and the Video really move each and every heart and fill tears in
our eyes.. Another touching song by Rahmanji who's helping the world to MAKE
THE POVERTY A HISTORY.. There's no lyrics in the theme but only Humming. But
whenever I listen to this track, I can feel some meanings in those
hummings.. it's like creating an awareness among us, about our duties and to
have a kind heart to help the poor and needy.. I'm still trying to find out
the Vocalist for this track ( Please find out and tell me :-) ) I listened
to this theme more than 100 times this week and I'm really in love with this
track, more than ever.. The Song starts with a soothing tune and the humming
enters into our ears with some never before heard feel.. The theme has a
great flow from a low octave to high with some heavy beats in the
background.. But still the humming soothes our heart n soul.. Towards the
end we can clearly hear the masterpiece voice of ARR.. It's like the
maa... in the beginning of Vande mataram Song.. :-) The theme ends
with the touching beginning tune and the vocals.. No words !

I don't know how many of you have listened to this track or seen the
 video..
 Here's the download link anyway..
 http://rapidshare.com/files/19683148/Banyan_theme_audio.mp3
The Quality is not so good.. Please forgive.. :-) Thanks to Aditya for this
 link..

If anyone here has a good quality mp3 please post it.. And I don't have the
Video with me.. Kindly someone post that too to enjoy the ever haunting feel
 of the theme..

I don't know for how many days I keep on listening to this track whenever I
feel sad or happy.. But for me this is the *SONG OF THE WEEK ! *:-) :-)*

 *Thank you all.. PEACE.

Friends,
I've just poured out my mind.
Please don't get bored with it...Would love to hear other's perspectives on
 ARR .

 *Earlier Trends in ARR Music:*

 *1) sad / sombre songs:
 * Early in his career, most of his sad songs were of typical soul/Blue
 genre.
he used a repeating pattern .
 eg: Tu Hire - Bombay
  Oh Vennila - Kadhal Desam.
  Roja Jaaneman - Roja.

*2) Use of a repeating loop with plucked-string instrument.
*For many slow placed songs, he used a very simple repeating loop using
 guitar/veena/sitar/etc.,
 eg: Revival - Vande Mataram.
Then Kizhaku cheemayila - Kizhaku Cheemayile
Nila Kaaigiradhu - Indra (Hari Haran version)

*3) Lavish use of 'Vocal' support from Backing singers in Interludes:
*Many a times he has done entire interludes with just group vocals. (most
cases they words are just gibberish)
eg: Hairaba - jeans (2nd interlude)
Kannum Kannum - Thiruda Thirurda rock song (2nd interlude by Sujatha)
Take it easy Urvasi - Kadhalan (Anupama in interlude)
Kehna hi Kya/Kannalane - Bombay (female chorus for interlude)
Lucky Lucky - Ratchagan (2nd interlude)

 *4) Use of Cello/Double Bass/Other Low-pitched instruments for Loop:
*eg: Dil Se Re - Dil Se
Romeo Aatam Potaal - Mr. Romeo
 Ishq Bina - Taal
 Anbe Anbe - Jeans.
 Hello doctor - Kadhal Desam

*More Recent Trends in ARR Music.*

*5) Use of Guitar/other accoustic with slightly higher pitched sounds as
loop : (Compare with point 4)
*eg: Kabhi Kabhi Aditi - JTYJN
 New York Nagaram - SOK
 Lukka Chupi - RDB
YeH tara - Swades (tonk ta tonk ..tonk ta tonk loop)
 Akilan Akilan - Alai Payuthey

*6) Declining use of a commercial Synthesizer loops:
*This is a well known thing.
eg: Telephone Mani pol - Indian
Of late its his own Loop. SOmtimes additional rythm programmers are hired
 to do specific songs.

*7) Extravagant usage of Symphonic elements
*We can see him preferring more more symphonic sounding arrangements
even to ordinary present-day time movies.
eg: Increased use of strings as an accompaniment to the main singer
 throughtout the song.

 *  classic eg:
Compare beats of Chicku Bukku (Gentleman) to latest Taxi Taxi (Sakkarakati)

Having said this, its still impossible to Define ARR or his music.
Every film in every period has had its share of innovation surprise.
*ARR is still a Work in Progress.
*As I've said before, the last thing that I need is, to take a 5 year
break to Mars, and come back find no difference in ARR's compositions.
A brilliant artist evolves with time. and ARR is that much more.

Since his arrival, many others have followed
his path and hence, because of the dominating influence of his own
sound and style in the music industry, ARR himself is victim to his
 own revolutionary undertakings in that

Tandav Films collaborates various celebrities in a video for a social cause

After winning many critical acclamations for its debut production film,
Khosla Ka Ghosla, Raj Hiremath Savita Raj Hiremath of Tandav Films
Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. are now producing a video to mobilize masses to
stand up in the movement against poverty. The video features many renowned
celebrities from different fields. With This video to be known as Public
Social Advertising (PSA), Tandav Films have brought various known faces from
different walks of life to stand up together against a social cause.

Namely, the master of music, A.R Rehman, lyrics maestro, Gulzar, Singing
sensations Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh,
the young dashing actor Ranbir Kapoor and cross border model turned
actress of 'Khuda Kay Liye' Fame Imaan Ali will be seen in the video,
conveying the right message to the masses for removal of poverty. This video
is being directed by Meghna Gulzar and is already in its production stage.

Considering their quality work in the field of communications with creative
content in Advertising and Feature Films, United Nations Millennium Campaign
(UNMC) has assigned Tandav Films to take care of the production of this
video. Another reason of this video alongside educating and informing the
masses would also be to popularize Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The
video will essentially focus on the global advocacy campaign called Stand
up and Take Action.

In last October, 43 million people across the globe took part in this
campaign and set up a Guinnies world record. A bigger number is what the
UNMC is all eyeing upon this year and that is why they are involving the
Indian celebrities this time to stand as a face to this campaign.
Celebrities' voice makes a lot of difference when collaborate with a cause.
They attract more people than any organizations. Thus the correct selection
of production house and celebrities is the prior choice for positive
outputs.

We are pleased with such a warm gesture by UNMC. I think it is our mere
vision towards creativity that lead us to attain this project and I am happy
it is for a noble cause. I would like to add as much as to this social need.
I announce that this video will be aired free of cost in major Television
Channels. Is what Raj Hiremath, the producer of this video quips. After the

Hai all,

This is an 'animated rap musical' based on Cockroach. The film is set in

organism on the planet.
- The story of the movie will be of a NRI cockroach coming to India in
search of a bride. The movie will be released on internet first.
- Kapur was wary of giving more details of this project, saying, I
can't keep giving away my stories, someone will copy it.
