[arr] Re: Best Singer award

2010-02-12 Thread balajirajagopal
...i remember some reviewer posing the question

Does a sing become very good because ARR sings it or does he sing the best song
in the album!!! :

Either ways, it is really a pity he hasnt been nominated much for the best male
singer, particularly because songs like Dil Se and Rehna Tu are nothing short
of modern day classics!! I guess it will take a Grammy award for the best male
English singer to get the Indian awards jury to start recognising his vocal
talents!!! But then...if ARR does get a grammy for singing, you bet the
entire chorus in India would be - but it is not his best, he has song far
better songs in Hindi/Tamil!

Cheers,
Balaji

RE: [arr] Best Singer award

2010-02-12 Thread Jesheem Mohamed

Nope to my understanding he's never won a Best Singer's award. He rarely gets
nominated too for the same.. And that's an irony as most of the songs he has
sung has arguably been amongst the best tracks in that particular album.
Therefore it always has been an irony when he does not get nominated but some1
else does from the same album!!
Its happened b4.. and its happening again..

"We Are the World — 25 for
Haiti"<http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631018/20100202/lil_wayne.jhtml>
is
set to premiere on Friday night (February 12) during the opening ceremony of
the Olympics in Vancouver. The song features appearances by a number of
artists including Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West,
Lil Wayne and Pink — along with some newly added artists who won't be
revealed until the remake airs. But while we wait for the debut of the Haiti
benefit, organized by Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, we have a preview from
the people behind the song.

"I just keep the class of the original one," producer RedOne told
MTV News<http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631787/20100211/akon.jhtml>,
explaining how "We Are the World" would differ from the club tracks he's
made with artists like Lady Gaga. "But I didn't want to change any course. I
didn't want to mess it up, because it's too good. I tried to keep it on the
same level and tried to make it sound more now and current. I kept the whole
chord progressions, the feeling and the vibe, but brought fresher sounds
that are more now."

One update that the original didn't include, however, is a heavy rap
presence, with Wayne, West, Will.I.Am, T-Pain, Bizzy Bone, Kid Cudi, LL Cool
J, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Mann, Nipsey Hussle, Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz all
lending their voices to the track. Wyclef Jean also said he added a "Haitian
influence"<http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631046/20100202/jean_wyclef.jhtml>
to
the song.

The video's director, Paul
Haggis<http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631768/20100211/story.jhtml>,
also spoke to MTV News about his involvement in the project and admitted he
"embraced the chaos" of shooting everyone from Celine Dion to Kanye West,
most of whom recorded the track on February 1 in Los Angeles.

"You hear these stories about people checking their egos at the door, and it
really is true," the "Crash" director explained. "They came and stood
forever and were glorified extras a lot of the time. They just stood in the
corner and waved."

Even in a room full of stars, the participants put the cause, helping raise
money for Haiti's earthquake recovery, above all else. "It was hot and it
was crowded," Haggis said, but as a director, he was almost disappointed by
how well everyone got along. "When there's chaos, there's friction. Where
there's fiction, there's drama, and I knew I'd have fun things to shoot.
Unfortunately, there wasn't as much drama as I expected. People really got
along very well."

The video was shot in
3-D<http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631034/20100202/jones_quincy.jhtml>,
and green-screen technology will eventually allow viewers at home to place
themselves in the chorus. "You would think we have a full-blown motion
picture going in there," Richie marveled at a press conference earlier this
month. "We have 3-D cameras, we have Technicolor cameras, we have every
imaginable form of technology. You can put yourself into the 'We Are the
World' family from the computer."

The other "We Are the World"
artists<http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1631021/20100202/west_kanye.jhtml>
include
Miley Cyrus, Wyclef Jean, Jamie Foxx, Josh Groban, Keri Hilson, Zac Brown
Band, Akon, Brandy, Melanie Fiona, Mya, Musiq Soulchild, Katharine McPhee,
Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Joel and Benji Madden, members of Sugarland,
Jennifer Hudson, Jason Mraz, India.Arie, Mary Mary, Tyrese Gibson, Raphael
Saadiq, Rob Thomas, Usher, the Fray's Isaac Slade, pianist Ethan Bortnick,

Nicole Scherzinger, Julianne Hough, Barbra Streisand, Carlos Santana,

and Al Jardine, Tony Bennett, composer A.R. Rahman, "American Idol" judge

seduce many reviewers but the movie, which marks the debut of A R Rahman [
Images ] in
Hollywood, grossed about $160 million worldwide.

This is one of those movies that make the snobbish critics sulk while the
producers are busy moving millions into their banks.

The film is not a laugh riot but it is good for a time-pass evening. There
is hardly anything that will upset a family of college bound children. But
it is not to be weatched with kids below 16. The deleted scenes and several
other extras offer a genuine bonus.

Producer-turned-director Peter Billingsley has extracted decent performances
from a talented cast.

The romantic comedy, in which four couples with midlife crisis take off to
an exotic vacation only to realise that they have to work very hard and bond
with each other before attaining their marital goal, brings together actors
and writers Vince Vaughn [

and Jon Favreau, who team up after their '90s career-making cult hit, *
Swingers.*

The cast includes Kristin Bell (*Forgetting Sarah Marshall*, and TV's *Gossip
Girl* ), Jason Bateman (*Up in the Air*, TV's *Arrested Development*)
Kristin Davis [

]
(*Sex and the City*), Faizon Love (TV's *My Name Is Earl*), and Jean Reno (*Da
Vince Code, Hotel Rwanda*)

Each couple has its own problems: one is unhappy because they haven't had a
child, another are unhappy with their parenting duties and complain that
they have little time for romance; wandering eyes cause a problem too, and
an older man dating a bimbo is not sure how he should proceed.

'Fans of romantic comedies, and comedies of manners, will be delighted at
the snappy interaction among the actors, and the zingers delivered by the
script,' wrote reviewer A T Hurtley. He is among a handful of critics who
liked the film.

Among the surprises in the film is the French actor Reno who is deadpan face
in many situations but adds a lot of laughs as New Age director of the
retreat.

[image: A scene from Couples Retreat]Rahman has composed a decent theme
song, and a number with an Indian melody but coming in the wake of *Slumdog
Millionaire [

]* this is film is not a major triumph for him

*Extras:* Some of the funniest moments on the DVD and Blu-ray edition
include the scenes that speculate what would've happened had the men been
left off on the island, there are extra therapy sessions and the scenes of
some cast members and director Billingsley checking out tantric yoga poses
that may provide laughs in the movie.

Billingsley, who started his career as a child career, told *Entertainment
Weekly* why he thrusts his derriere in Jason Bateman's face during that yoga
class: 'I did an episode of *Little House on the Prairie* with Jason when I
was about 9-years-old. In that particular episode, I had a speech
impediment, and h

Well in my opinion the movie is stupid and the music has been horribly used.
I think one needs to watch a lot of hollywood comedy movies to find this
dumb.

[arr] Re: Filmfare Awards 2010 Nominations (Music)

2010-02-12 Thread Jahanzeb
again very sad to see Gulaal missing. to me it's the second best album of the
year.
and sad to see that didn't nominate ARR for vocals for Rehna Tu.
though it is nice to see it being nominated for lyrics.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan deserves much more so I won't hope for Mohit. RFAK is so
overdue. It's quite disappointing that RFAK has given hit after hit since he
started in Bollywood but never won an award. he has such a high hit ratio, I
think more 80-85% songs he sang were hit. of course this has to do with the
choice of composers what songs they rope in him for.

Im so glad to see Delhi 6 nomination in all the music categories, but i was
dissapointed the fact Madhushree was not nominated at all. U feel they should
have nominated Madhushree for her song "Sau Janam" from 'Whats ur rashee'.
Though its a non-arr song, she deserves an award for that !
