[arr] A message to Maniratnam

2010-05-09 Thread shashi
Raavanan and Raavan is a good effort. However if you notice, Rahman has tried
his level best to satisfy both the regional listeners. Mani should not gamble
or waste Rahman's effort. If its not a dubbed flim, please kindly use different
music for both the flims. This will justify the music score for both individual
flims.Its just my thought.

wow man to me the film has given an altogether new life to the music/songs and
they have topped Raavan on my playlist. amazing. especially Mannipaaya and
Kannukkul Kannai have got a new meaning, as now they can be related to the
story and characters. wondering how amazingly a well-made film can give a true
meaning to its music.

Brother..Check internet archives... Gautham was not at all satisfied with
RHTDM; even the heroine selection was not his..He wanted to stop the
shooting in the middle of the movie..But couldnt afford to..He completed the
movie, being completely dissatisfied. Even today, he speaks about that sour
experience from Bollywood. Thereafter, he was VERY doubtful, if he would do
another Hindi film in his career. But sources say that if he does one again,
he would really think before it. If u ask Gautham about RHTDM, he would give
u a disappointed reply any time.

agree,,i think we just ignore that song,but its a great melody,it remindes me
the classic era of 60,s the compositions of shanker jaikishan,naushad,S.D

it recalls the beauty of  a song ,,aaj sanam mohey ang laga lo,, by S.D burman

Please read the following only if you are playing the song with GOOD speakers..)

@0:00:
Pahadi beats kinda beginning.. very soothing.. we can actually imagine
dark night which has come to life with golden color around...
@0.14:
Some magic floating around... Flute blows.. like chill in air @ night...
@0.22:
Reena's voice is so polite, and soft... as if a girl is whispering to
herself.. or humming just for herself... just perfect with the beats
...
@1:16
and the flute comes again to create magic...before first interlude. as
if catching the hand of the girl and taking her along with it...
@1:26:
The first interlude is superb Hindustani classical.. The girl is a
classical dancer and she has to express her emotions. As peacock cant
contain itself when clouds come around, this girl also a free bird...
she wants to express all her feelings..When in Good mood, how can an
artist resist expressing through his art...
Beautiful flute, tabla along with humming chorus.. and hey flute,
BEAUTIFUL..is the backbone of the interlude...
@:2:02
As the stanza starts, the girl is geting restless as she calls her
beloved to come and kill the darkness of lonlines... Superb use of
Raag
but somehow i feel, Reena's voice fades towards the end of the stanza.
and I wonder how Shreya would have handled this part...
@2:50
and the Mukhda starts again...
@ 3.11 to 3:20
but hey.. wats this instrument going @ the background @ 3.11 to 3:20
.. isnt it chinese? I wonder if ARR hears sounds in his head.. This
bit is used so nicely , sounds just perfect...
@3.22
As she sings mukhda again, flute blows like breeze behind...
@3:51
Arr is about to end the song with flute spreading magic with magic
notes .. I really love the notes played by Flute here...
@4:00
All the instruments come along once again.. the layers slowly start
disappearing as the songs finally ends to my despair..

but no issues, the next song to be played in my ipod will be the same,
coz the song is on loop :)

Take a Bow ARR and Naveen Sir...

  It was a nice, pleasant surprise to hear shades of Raaga Bhairavi in
Raavan's/Raavanan' s music. Which other ARR songs from the past have used
Raaga Bhairavi, for those of you who know raagas?

A few come to mind:

- Parts of Man Mohanna from JA, esp. the intro string interlude and flute
interludes

 - Sabaq Aisa from Tehzeeb, used heavily here

 - The choruses of Taal Se Taal Mila (the Antara is in Kirwani)

I don't know of any Bhairavi songs in Tamil, but I may be mistaken. Anyone
want to add to this list, if you can think of some?

Who here agrees with me Khili Re sounds too, too amazing compared to Kalvare?
There is something about this girl's (Reena Baradwaj) voice that spelled divine
in this song. This feel is totally missing in Kalvare. So far after good
listens, my view is such :

Keda Kari > Katha Katha
Kalvare < Khili Re

so far im hooked to this songs, these songs r not letting me to get into the
other songs. waiting to move on to the other songs haha...

hindi version is better than tamil and to my expectation it is not upto the
mark so far,hope i willlike the songs after some more hearings.
personally i feel that media is creating a hype that mani-arr combination
always rocks,but i thinkarr with ashutosh and ramprakash is good these days due
to their song selection and how they extract the best from arr.
mani should stop doing bilingual or he should get tune from arr which sets the
mood for tamil audience.
raavan songs are all based for hindi audiences

Re: [arr] ARR and Raaga Bhairavi

2010-05-09 Thread Aakarsh
ARR's trysts with Raag Bhairavi:

1. Spirit of Rangeela
2. Margazhi Thingal (Sangamam) - His best ever Bhairavi.
3. Sabaq Aisa - Tehzeeb
4. Jiya Jale - Dil Se (it is a mishra... but the ending gets into total
Bhairavi aalaap)
5. Rang De - Meenaxi
6. Man Mohana - Jodha Akbar
7. Thok De Killi - Raavan (has shades of it)
8. Behne De - Raavan
9. Engae enathu kavithai - Kandukondein Kandukondein.. It is Sindhu Bhairavi
(Carnatic-ized Bhairavi)
10. Khamoshiyaan gungunaane - 1-2-ka-4
11. Mera Rang De Basanthi Chola - The Legend of Bhagat Singh
12. Rang De Basanthi - Rang De Basanti

I could think of only these at this moment. I might be missing few more. But
yes, I have observed that Bhairavi seems to be his favourite raaga.

After RHYTHM?? That is absolutely not correct brother! Maybe, u ONLY look
into the melody aspect, and not into genre exploration like BOYS or NEW.
But, still, ARR had given MELODIES which even CHALLENGED his 90's scores..
like KANNATHIL MUTHAMITTAAAL, LAGAAN, KANGALAL KAIDHU SEI, BOSE: THE
FORGOTTEN HERO, WATER and RANG DE BASANTI.
Guru, was not everyone's cup of tea... But for me, it was completely

[arr] Re: Back where he belongs

2010-05-09 Thread Pravinder
Seems like people review ARR albums only in 2 ways:

1. Current album is average by Rahman's standards, don't expect a 'Roja' or X Y
Z.
 Or

2. Finally Rahman has come up with great music unlike his last projects.

Why on the earth can someone review his albums like normal?

Pravinder.

Great effort by those Spanish youngsters.

[arr] Some people live in dreams (like Bappi Lahiri)

2010-05-09 Thread Pravinder
I can't believe this guy said all those things.

'Bappi Lahiri Accuses A R Rahman'.

See and laugh,

Warm regards,

Re: [arr] Back where he belongs

2010-05-09 Thread vimaljk
Couple's Retreat was AMAZING..and was one of Rahman's best albums...not saying
Raavana/Raavan is bad..but to say its better is just riduculous!...also its
apples and oranges as couple's retreat is a SCORE (more or less) while
Raavana/Raavan is a SOUNDTRACKYuvraaj is better as well..."Tu Hi Mere Dost"
"Tu Muskura" "Mastam Mastam" "Manmohini" are all first rate songsalso...she
said Blue wasnt fresh?!?!...Chiggy Wiggy was American pop mixed w/
Bhangra...Yaar Mila Tha was 90s Bollywood mixed with hip hop, Rehnuma was like
a James Bond theme song.."Blue theme" was its own thingRahman hasnt
delivered an outright dud of an album in years (Baba in 2002)no matter what
some critics say
