[arr] [Non-ARR]Zack Hemsey - I am not Hans Zimmer

2010-08-14 Thread Rahmaniac™
I know this is the second post that I am talking about other music director,
but
this is an extraordinary piece of work by this 27 year old young musician who
gave me a feeling that the music that I heard was by Hans Zimmer. below is the
soundtrack that I am talking about.

http://music.zackhemsey.com/track/mind-heist

above soundtrack is the trailer music of Inception, but not composed by Hans
Zimmer. I found this when I was looking for this sound in the OST of inception
album and found the artist name through shazam (iphone app)

check this post for more details
http://zackhemsey.blogspot.com/2010/05/with-all-confusion-going-around.html

thats the story of the subject line. and being rahmaniacs, we would all love
the
mind heist sound.

btw, i found some mesmerizing interludes in Robo, which I would like to extract
and post soon here.

Musician Stephen Devassy on his music school Muzik Lounge

Popular pianist, stage performer and composer Stephen Devassy is on a roll.
He has programmed over 2,000 songs and has worked with more than 50
musicians of the likes of A.R. Rahman, Zakir Hussain and Amjad Ali, to name
a few.

Now the musician who has charmed audiences with his talent – and his boyish
charm and easy smile – is all set to enter a fresh arena in music. Stephen
along with his brother, Sam Devassy, himself a sound engineer, musician and
event manager, has opened a school of audio technology called the Muzik
Lounge in Chennai.

Muzik Lounge came into existence in 2007 as a result of the duo's dream to
build a platform for musical excellence. Since then they have produced work
for world renowned musicians and composers such as Amjad Ali Khan, Mandolin
Srinivas, Vidyasagar and Rajamani. They have so far recorded and mixed
around 30 solo albums, more than 60 film albums and have done the
re-recording for over 100 films using the latest state of the art
technology.
 RIGHT GUIDANCE

When asked about his foray into music education, Stephen says: “I struggled
to reach where I am today. There are a lot of talented youngsters who lack
only the right guidance. My objective is to share my experience and that of
other established professionals so that they are put on the right track.”

Muzik Lounge currently offers two courses of 18 months duration – diploma in
audio technology and diploma in music technology. They cover specialised
areas such as analogue and digital audio engineering, acoustics engineering,
sound synthesis, special FX, live sound engineering and so on.

*“‘Pro Tools' is an amazing software in the field of audio technology. A.R.
Rahman once told me that he took four years to master it.* Now a student who
goes through our course will be taken through all the nuances of this
software in a year's time and will be ‘Pro Tools' certified,” says Stephen.
The musician has roped in some of the best talent in the country as faculty
and brand ambassadors – percussionist Sivamani, veteran singer Hariharan,
music composers M. Jayachandran and K.J. Singh, to name a few.

There are also tie-ups with Leicester University, United Kingdom and SAE
Australia for exchange programmes for students. The courses are certified by
the Centre for Continuing Education, Government of Kerala. Some of the
highlights of the course are focus on the practical side of the course,
international guest lecturers, assistance in production and marketing
albums, interactive sessions and guidance from experienced music directors
in the Indian film industry and so on.

Stephen also plans to open a branch in Kochi six months down the line. “The
stakes are high considering the amount of financial commitment involved in
ensuring that world class facilities and equipment are available to the
students. But this is my passion,” says Stephen as he signs off.

My most favorite Tamil song 'Boom Boom Robot da..  stands great in Hindi
version too with, Madhusree replacing Swetha Mohan.   (Agree the line resemble
Thala Thala You know what,  I literally forgot the Thala Thala song these
days).

My least favorite song in Tamil- "Kadhal Anukkal" ( not that I didn't like the
tune but, the guitar sound is too louder and it's jarring my ears .)  Now ARR
has compensated this in Hindi by giving minimum focus on the guitar and the
song sounds very soulful and I really enjoy the Hindi version more than the
Tamil. Having said that, the song will be heavenly for those who already like
the tamil version.

All other songs are as great as Tamil.

Here is the list:
O Naye Insaan

Singer: Srinivas D., Khatija Rahman Pyaara Tera Gussa Bhi/Pagal Anukan

Singers: Mohit Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal Naina Mile

Singers: A. R. Rahman, Suzanne, Lady Kash and Krissy

English lyrics: Lady Kash and Krissy Chitti Dance Showcase

Singers: Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Rags, Yogi B

Additional Arrangements and Programming: Pravin Mani Arima Arima

Singers: Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam

Additional Vocals: Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer Kilimanjaro

Singers: Javed Ali, Chinmayi

Additional Vocal Arrangements: Clinton Cerejo Boom Boom Robot

Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman will make a presentation of his
theme song for the Commonwealth Games at a meeting of a Group of Ministers
on Sunday. Sources said the idea was to ensure that the song becomes a
sensation like his own *Jai Ho *and Soccer World Cup theme song *Waka

Rahman will make the presentation of the song before the GoM, which has now
been empowered to take all necessary decisions for the smooth conduct of the
event.

It will be the first meeting of the Group of Ministers after alleged
corruption scandals hit the Games and comes a day after Prime Minister

I was not much impressed by Maaricham and Machakaari of JOK/SOK. Or may be they
are not of my type of liking. Except for the portion where the husky female
voice calls 'Gowtham Gowtham' it didnt really hook me. Apart from the hot favs.
Munbe Vaa and Newyork nagaram, I loved the title track by Tanvi for the Jazz
and
Tanvi's varied singing.

Though its off-topic, I have always felt Newyork nagaram could have been
picturized much better. Surya doesnt do full justice to the song. I expected
pain and agony to be emoted on screen as the song itself is for the situation
where the hero is away from the heroine. But the video shows Surya singing the
song with gentle smile throughout sporting designer costumes. I feel Madhavan
would have done a better job. For instance in the film 'Minnale' he had done a
commendable job in the song 'Venmadhi venmadhi nillu' and also in the song
'Yevano oruvan' from 'Alaipayuthey'.

part of KMMC, it would be great if every one part of KMMC share their
experience here, especially foreign students who are studying in KMMC, as
they come from different culture and learning carnatic and all kinds
of Indian music.

I never expected this to happen but I'm addicted to Enthiran especially to
Irumbile Oru Idhayam! Had very low expectations for this album actually but I'm
totally impressed. One of the best Shankar/ARR combo in terms of a fun album.
Youth friendly album:) Totally enjoying it!

*How Khatija Rahman sang Enthiran track!*
Ambili [August 11, 2010, 10:19:04 PM]
[image: How Khatija Rahman sang Enthiran track!]

For the first time, double Oscar winner A.R. Rahman's eldest daughter
Khatija Rahman has sung for a film. This song is the opening track 'Pudiya
Manidha' in *Enthiran* which she has sung with ARR and ace singer S.P.
Balasubramanyam.

During the audio launch of *Enthiran*, Rahman revealed just how this
happened, “I did not plan on bringing Khatija into singing. I was composing
for the song 'Pudhiya Manidha' at my studio in Chennai. As usual, it was
past midnight and I needed a child’s voice for it. I thought instead of
calling someone at that late hour, why not my own daughter? And that’s how
the idea originated. When I called her on the intercom, she asked, 'You want
me to come at this time?' "

"I said, 'Okay, fine. If you are not coming now, I will take someone else.'
But even before I could finish my sentence, she said, 'I will be there in
two minutes, appa.' After finishing her part effortlessly she said, 'Are you
happy pa? I just want to tell you that after staying up so late, I am not
going to school tomorrow!' "

This is definitely one of Rahman's classic. "Revival" and "Missing" tracks are
just pure bliss, I wasnt totally drawn to them when I first listened but over
the years they have just grown over me..The acoustics in the album is also
extra-ordinary...I personally wish Rahman does less movie music and does more
of freeform artistic album like this.

[arr] Congrats to Mugdha - KM Music Student on SaReGaMaPa Singing Superstar

2010-08-14 Thread AJ
http://www.bollywood.com/rahmans-students-score

Forgive me if this has been posted before...

Rahman's Students Score!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, Aug. 13 -- She's a polyglot from A R Rahman's music academy, KM
Conservatory, in Chennai and has made it to the top finalists of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa
Singing Superstars on Zee TV that kicks off tonight.

Mugdha has been studying music at Rahman's school for the last one year. She
learnt Hindustani classical and semi-classical music during her growing up
years. Today, she also sings in seven languages, apart from various other
styles.

When asked about making it to the top batch of contestants on the show, Mugdha
who is participating in a reality show for the first time, says, "It's my
teachers' and my family's blessings. I hope to not let them down."

The 20-something singer feels blessed to have made it to the The KM
Conservatory. "Rahman sir has been a pillar of support. The school has gained
more popularity after sir won the Oscars. He had a few sessions with us despite
a tight schedule. He interacted with us in the batch personally. He gave us
great inputs about playback singing. I just want to make him proud now."

Mugdha, who has sung for a Tamil film and a nursery rhyme album, hopes to find
work in Bollywood after the show ends. "This show is my biggest platform so
far," she asserts. "I hope I find work as a playback singer and make it big.
Maybe then, I can also spread awareness about the global forms of music."

[arr] Robot Hindi singers

2010-08-14 Thread jsrwm
My most favorite Tamil song 'Boom Boom Robot da.. stands great in
Hindi version too with, Madhusree replacing Swetha Mohan. (Agree the
line resemble Thala Thala You know what, I literally forgot the
Thala Thala song these days).

My least favorite song in Tamil- "Kadhal Anukkal" ( not that I didn't
like the tune but, the guitar sound is too louder and it's jarring my
ears [:((] .) Now ARR has compensated this in Hindi by giving minimum
focus on the guitar and the song sounds very soulful [:)] and I really
enjoy the Hindi version more than the Tamil. Having said that, the song
will be heavenly for those who already like the tamil version.

All other songs are as great as Tamil.

Here is the list:

1. O Naye Insaan
Singer: Srinivas D., Khatija Rahman
2. Pyaara Tera Gussa Bhi/Pagal Anukan
Singers: Mohit Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal
3. Naina Mile
Singers: A. R. Rahman, Suzanne, Lady Kash and Krissy
English lyrics: Lady Kash and Krissy
4. Chitti Dance Showcase
Singers: Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Rags, Yogi B

[arr] AR Rahman Press Conference in Houston

2010-08-14 Thread A.R.Rajib
[image: AR Rahman Press Conference in Houston]

AR Rahman Press Conference in Houston

HOUSTON: He slipped fleetingly into Houston for an unobtrusive visit with
media this past weekend, but when A. R. Rahman stepped into the Hyatt
Regency Hotel’s conference room, the famously private Mozart of Madras may
have once again had it thrust home that his quiet days were over. Slightly
built and youthful, the legendary music director of international repute was
deluged by a storm of photographers, reporters, and fans. But he was a study
in graciousness as he took his seat onstage and calmly waited for the furor
to subside. Rahman was in the city August 7 to re-launch the publicity of
his Jai Ho – The Journey Home World Tour in North America.

The show, which had an extremely successful and critically acclaimed run in
four cities within the US, was abruptly aborted in Detroit in July when part
of the stage infrastructure catastrophically collapsed before the concert,
destroying most of the staging, lighting and musical instruments. Jai Ho –
The Journey Home, brought to this city by Moid Khan of Bollywoodshows4u, has
been rescheduled to play at the Toyota Center on September 17, 2010, at
8.30pm.

Rahman, the two-time Academy and Grammy Award- winning music director of the
movie Slumdog Millionaire, has collaborated with creative director Amy
Tinkham. Tinkham has previously worked with music icons in the ilk of Paul
McCartney and Madonna, structuring and choreographing impressive live stage
performances. The Jai Ho – The Journey Home concert is a two-and-half hours
long theatrical experience that blends elements of Sufi mysticism,
traditional folk, reggae, jazz, and rock, with new technologies.

“Through the vast tapestry of music that is Rahman, he takes us on a virtual
journey through beauty, culture, and spirituality,” said Tinkham. “This is
uniquely Indian – both ancient and modern.”

The Jai Ho concert incorporates the talents of a world troupe of dancers
from various countries globally, and also includes a contortionist. The
theme celebrates Indian culture and will include several of Rahman’s
compositions new and old. Rahman told media that the performers rehearsed
for nearly two months and that he avoided taking on other movie contracts to
practice with them.

“I’m so happy to resume touring,” said Rahman. “Performing live for my fans
means so much to me and the time lost due to the accident has been very
difficult for our team. The support and encouragement we’ve received from
fans has been an incredible inspiration. We’re all very grateful and can’t
wait for the fans to see the special show we’ve put together for them. I
wanted to create a polished show,” he added.

When a guest at the media conference suggested that Rahman tended to favor
the Tamil and other South Indian languages more in his shows, he responded:

“I’ve included many languages, but I’ve found that when you’re deep into
music, the language ceases to matter,” Rahman said.

Rachel Varghese, a fellow journalist from the local community was at the
kick-off performance of Jai Ho – The Journey Home in New York in June. She
raved about the show, calling it “simply stupendous”. “It was an
extraordinary show. I am definitely going to see it again as I’m sure I
missed something. There was so much to see. The beautiful set, the dancers –
each song had a different stage design. It’s quite unlike anything I’ve ever
seen before!” added Varghese.

Dignitaries attending the media and VIP press conference were Congresswoman
Sheila Jackson Lee, Council Member Brenda Stardig, Consul General of India
Sanjiv Arora, Guy Rippon, Chancellor of the University of Houston, Dr. Renu
Khator, and Suresh Khator. Sponsors included Udipi Café ( who also catered
for the press meet), Tara Energy, Kohinoor Diamonds, Toyota Center, Qatar
Airlines, and Snapple.

There are certain experiences in life that change you as a person and
help you grow into a better individual. For me, these defining
experiences happened during those years that I was a student of AR
Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory.

As I look back on that journey that has evolved me into making music
my life and profession I feel KMMC happened a little late in my life
but I strongly feel it couldn't have come at a more right moment than
this. I had a keen interest in music since childhood, listening along
with my grandfather to his thousands of carnatic collections including
M.Balamuralikrishna, Thyagaraja, Ramadas, and many Annamayya
Keerthanas and instrumentals. I recall composing rough tunes for fun,
even before I started learning music formally. But it wasn’t until AR
Rahman
 happened, that my
passion for music grew beyond words. I became
a devout fan of Rahman Sir ever since Bombay had released. I remember
skipping my school continuously to go to the theatre where Bombay was
being played just to listen to the music and the background scores.
And with each of his releases after that, his music became a daily
fuel for me.

I had completed my Engineering degree in Chennai and was working a
mundane software job. Of course, my body was there, but my ears, mind
and thoughts were just tunes, melodies, rhythm and one man- AR Rahman.
So when I heard news that Rahman Sir was going to open his own music
school here in Chennai, which offers courses in western classical
music, various areas of music technology, instruments, and vocals, I
thought to myself, “If I wanted to give my passion for music a chance
to grow and give a chance to live my dream-job as a composer, THIS was
it.” And what better
opportunity to learn at an institution developed
by a man who I worshipped and looked up to for so many years. So
without hesitation I applied for an audition. Now I wasn’t at all sure
I would get in and did not even tell my family or anyone else about
applying to the school. I thought to myself by auditioning I would at
least catch a glimpse of the school and studio, and if lucky catch a
glimpse of Rahman Sir. So I was super surprised and was just in utter
disbelief when I got that call of acceptance and my family was even
more shocked when I told them that I am going to resign my job and
join KMMC. So here I was literally on cloud 9, about to begin a
journey that I had only dreamt of all these years.

In KMMC I took western classical vocals and composition as a major
with a prior knowledge in carnatic vocals and keyboard. As soon as I
entered the conservatory compound on the first day, I could just
 feel
the aura of positive energy all around. The school had almost like a
homely and soothing atmosphere with wooden floors and furniture,
accented with warm curtains, large middle-eastern rugs, a beautiful
grand piano and a picture of Rahman sir's father in the main reception
area. More than this it was my fellow classmates from all corners of
the world, and the amazing faculty that made those years the most
memorable.

Moreover, being part of KMMC I saw Rahman Sir in a whole different
light, and my respect and devotion towards him grew to infinite
lengths. During the first week he came and interacted with us in
person and asked us our ambitions and goals. I still remember when I
asked Sir at that time to hum a few lines of New York Nagaram, what he
said in response will forever stay with me. He said. "Guys don't stick
only onto New York Nagaram, music is beyond the regular commercial
cinema. Make your
mark, aim at the moon..at least you will

it is utter foolishness if it was done so. How can they match whatever
