Hai all, I have been thinking this whenever i heared the news of Rahman's Music Launching with premier Music Releasing companies. What they are doing is that they are compelling rahman to complete the recording within a stipulated time ; then only they can relaese the album. It is better to start Rahman in his own Music Releasing company .At least it is bettr to release his own private albums .The other advantage is that complete authority is in the hands of Rahman listeners will get more stuffs like solo versions ,BGMS ,instrumental versions etc. The other thing is that Rahman can encourage independent musicians to do the music with this company. Naresh Iyer, after his grand entry with mayiliragE won Hubbers hearts and souls and was voted as best singer of 2006. Recently, TFM Page conducted an interview with him where he shared his background, experiences and other intimate details. Excerpts from the three-hour interview Q: We have read that AR Rahman spotted you during the Super Singer contest and thus your film music career was born. Can you elaborate? Naresh: Samsung Super Singer competition is an all-India effort to identify and promote talented singers. The competition was organised by Channel V and the crew went to all parts of India to conduct the tests. In total there were 24,000 contestants! This huge number was filtered through a series of tests before the final 50 contestants were shortlisted. Of these 50 people 25 were further shortlisted, based on their previous performances and I was one of the 25 selected. Q: Which song did you sing in front of ARR? Naresh: I sang in front of AR Rahman sir and Adnan Sami sir, who was the host of the programme. The song I had chosen was Chaiyya chaiyya from Dil Se and I also sang a keertanam. The day before, all 25 contestants had to go through vigorous training which included yoga, mental strengthening and physical exercises. On the day of selection itself, each contestant were called to perform before AR Rahman sir. By the time I was called to sing, it was evening and I was exhausted both mentally and physically. Besides being tired, I had also lost my voice and felt that I had not given my best, In fact, to tell the truth I had no hopes of getting selected. Q: What happened then? Naresh: AR Rahman sir addressed me and said that he had both good and bad news and asked me which one I wanted to know first. I was quite speechless and blurted that it didn't matter. Then he told the good news; he will be using me for his forthcoming films. The bad news was that I was not selected to be in the last 15. I had mixed feelings about this and was rather sceptical of the offer and felt that AR Rahman sir was saying that to just console me. I was dejected for a couple of days and just as I was feeling normal, the call from Chennai came. Q: What happened to the competition? Naresh: I think the shortlisting continued and from 15, 10 were selected and then a final five. The five were then given training for two months and were asked to sing for a specially composed song by Hrimesh. If I remember right the finalists also were given the opportunity to record a pop album. Ravindra Upatiyai was the eventual winner, but it is sad that I lost contact with all participants when I lost my cell phone. Q: You got eliminated but won bigger! Did you get any inkling about what ARR likes in you? Naresh: I think only AR Rahman sir can answer this. Honestly, to this day I have no idea why he chose me to sing in his films. I consider myself to be lucky and am forever grateful to AR Rahman sir for the opportunity. Q: How and when did you meet AR Rahman next? Naresh: AR Rahman sir's Engineer Mr. Aditya Madhi called me on the 20th of January 2005 and conveyed that ARR sir requested me to come to Chennai for a week. I met ARR sir on the 24th and he told me that he will see what song suits me. At that point of time I had no idea whether I will be singing a Tamil song or a Hindi song or any other details. Q: Tell us your experiences recording for Mayilirage. Naresh: It was in early February that I sang this song. I had no experience whatsoever doing recordings and every experience was new for me. But once I was in the studio AR Rahman sir treated me like a friend and made me totally comfortable. He was joking and laughing a lot and there was absolutely no tension. The recording was in the evening and besides me, there were Vaali sir, SJ Surya sir and Madhushree madam. Amidst these giants I felt like a kid! I was asked to sing the pallavi first. There were no tracks and AR Rahman sir guided me through the pallavi. Then Madhushree madam sang the first saranam. I observed her singing and learnt some techniques. Since the song was not completely written, the recording continued the next day. Thinking back to those days, I am amazed with so many things. Mayilirage is still a favourite song of many people till today; it is such a beautiful song. All credits must go to AR Rahman sir. Having talents is one thing, but when people enjoy the product; there is nothing more beautiful than that. Q: How old were you when the song was recorded. There was talk that you were only a teenager then. Naresh: (Laughs) I think there must have been some misinformation. I remember seeing that in the Hub. I was 23 when I sang that song. Q: The song was picturised interestingly. Did you see it? Naresh: Yes, the concept was quite unique and the song was visualised by the director in relation to the subject. Hai all, This post is not meant for those who believe asking question is the biggest fault in the world. I am a new member in this group and i have been posting things almost every day. That was my initiation it happened through Pyarelal but when I came in 1991/92 they had almost gone out but I had the privilege of working with them and meeting them because I accompanied my father for their recordings. I still cherish those memories because they were my initiation years. Apart from shows what do you do? I've played for almost all the music directors in the last ten years. Hai all, Born and brought up in Delhi, Ali started singing since he could remember. He started out with his dad a popular qawwali singer, Ustad Hamid Hussain. Music composer Kalyanji once heard him at a stage show, and impressed with his voice asked him to try his luck at playback singing. From jingles and title track for TV soaps, he gradually moved to films. But that big song never came his way or even if it did, his voice was later replaced with someone else's voice, which is quite the norm with many new singers. "It's frustrating but after sometime you get used to it. Sometimes your voice doesn't suit the actor and there are many other reasons. There is no way out," Ali says. So, he waited for lady luck to smile at him and continued singing for films like Kyun Ho Gaya Na, Haasil, Paagalapan, Chameli, Bunty aur Babli and more recently in Golmaal and Malamaal Weekly. It was in 2007 that he struck big time with Jab We Met's Nagada Nagada and then followed it up with Ek Din from Naqaab. Hey guys, 1) Sakhiye(saathiyaa) -Alaipayuthey Singer-Hariharan, Clinton This was the original Tamil version of the title song from the movie Saathiya. Also made in Hindi with Sonu Nigam's voice and Gulzar's lyrics enjoy the beautiful instruments n Clinton's voice in the background singing the beautiful lyrics by Vairamuthu comparing his ladylove to an array of beautiful colors. 2) Khamosh Raat Thakshak Singer- Roopkumar Rathod A wonderful combination of AR Rahman's music, Mehboob's lyrics and Roopkumar Rathod's melodious voice.anyone can resist this song because of its addictive and very soothing guitar strums. 3) Roja-Roja Singers- SP Balasubramanium, Chitra SPB's voice in this extremely beautiful piece of poetry actually makes you feel the pain of being stranded away from your loved one along with the stirring vocals of Chitra in the background. Notice how SPB stresses his pain in the first line of this stanza as if he is actually scolding the cold wind and pleading with the moonlight to leave. P.K Mishra's lyrics come in to make this a phenomenal song you could never miss it. 4) Chaiyya Chaiyya Dil se Singers- Sukhwinder Singh, Sapna Awasthi One could never ask for anything better than a combo of ARR, Gulzar, Mani Ratnam and .Sukhwinder Singh!! One could never get tired of listening to Sukhwinder's voice as he goes on improvising along with Awasthi's husky voice. ARR gives the song an appropriate pace with a bass and even electric guitars. Equally good was Thaiyya thaiyya from the same movie. 5) Nahin Samne Yeh Alag Baat Hai Taal Singer Hariharan An amazing song sung by the very gifted Hariharan with the lyrics by Anand Bakshi. 6) Jiya Jale Dil se Singers- Lata Mangeshkar, M.G Sreekumar Along with Gulzar's lyrics. He brought Malayalam in between a Hindi song with M.G Sreekumar singing the beautiful lyrics by talented Malayali lyricist Girish Puthencherry and made it so unique and wonderful 7) Nilaakaagiradhu - Indira Hindi version is Khili Chandini Humein Keh Rahi - Priyanka Tamil version of this song with beautiful lyrics by Vairamuthu. The hindi lyrics are a bit different from the tamil lyrics the latter being better. Hariharan's voice will blow you away ,ARR's music every single improvisation ..makes us go through all those emotions. 8) Vellai Pookkal Kannathil muthamittaal Sung by ARR himself, the acoustics and piano just soothe your nerves completely. With lyrics by Vairamuthu, this song won the prestigious Subhash Award 9) Maargazhi poove- May Madham Singer- Shobha Shekhar ARR uses the tune of the sloka, "Suprabhatham" which means `morning' on the flute , The music has birds chirping in the background and addictive beats with a very soothing chorus. Hai all, When i see tamil movie alaipayuthe , bgm in climax of that movie, AR is used wonderfully and he made that BGM as a full song .That song is Milo Wahan sung by P jayachandran.And also i expect that AR will use BGM in sivaji in anyof the upcoming films especially shreya's introduction scene's bgm in a temple.That bgm was awesome. Hai all, This is interesting and not at all true things about AR.Here is "His worst Romeo Attam (Mr.Romeo), almost all of Love Birds, the song celebrating Independence in Indian, Thayin Manikodi (does not suit the mood of VandeMadaram), vappati song in K.Seemaieley,Sonia Sonia (Ratchagan). ARR's worst is love birds. There is a song sung by someone (who probably has never spoken any Thamizh words prior to singing this..) especially these lines: en "thamil" kettaal, thaNdavaaLam thuLirkkum.. "makkale..makkale".. tune-um maha erichchalaanathu.. thenrale thenrale (kAdhal desam ) one of the ARR's worst dialogues!! Any song having that MOST IRRITATING VOICE IN THE UNIVERSE G V PRAKASH (yuck - sagodari maganaga iruppadu dhan avan paaduvadharkkulla ore thaguthi!!!) songs from pavithra can be included in the list (i don't remember them ) sendhamizh nattu thamizhachiye (One finds it difficult as to who sings for whom -shahul hameed and malgadi subha) lucky lucky from rakshagan ( tamizh nna evlo velai enru ketpavaraiyellam paada vaiththal ippadithan -SPBkku avar (padathil) paadum pattukke chance kidaikkallai) chandiranai thottadhu yaar (ubayam -suneeta rao) thoda thoda malarndhadhenna(indira -superb dialogue) eh muthupaappa (vandi solai sinraasu-idhellam oru tune). Hai guys, I have been constantly observing that why AR is not now working with vairamuthu.After padayappa ,vairamuthu has give his lyrics to movie shivaji-vaaji vaaji song.It is Reported that vairamuthu told to media that AR has destroyed his naturality in lyrics by putting heavy orchestration.Idon,t think so.Anyway from that onwards AR is not associating with Vairamuthu.AR is now promoting Vaaly and Pa vijay.What you people say about it.
