ARR never fails to overwhelm me. What gems of compositions from Ravan. The
instruments and the voices take a different discipline and different hue when
they are handled by this Gentleman Musician. ARR never disappoints.

[arr] ARR gives his all to every composition

2009-09-11 Thread csrao
I hear one song a day "in the loop" for an hour or two. This is the only way I
can fully enjoy the bouquet and heavenly flavor, in all respects, of the
divinely compositions of the Great ARR. And the instruments, pauses, chorus,
beats and especially the sharp and the not so sharp turns and twists can only
be adored by me that way. My humble observation is that whatever be the genre
of the song melody, pop or whatever, ARR composes any, I repeat any, song with
a unique dedication and whatever comes to his genius musical mind-supreme,? he
works? in to that composition turning a song in to a symphony. Many a composer
would have made ten songs out of one composition of ARR. We know composers
building up tune-banks for future use. My imagination tells me that ARR feels
that all should go into the song on hand. No saving tunes. Next song will get
its quota when its time comes. Though I do not know tamil, I dare cite three
compositions which made a classic out of , otherwise, ordinary songs viz.
Sakkara enakkare, Thaniye than thaniye, varah nadi kare [sorry for the
spellings]. While appreciating or while making a feeble attempt to understand?
the works of a genius, one is lucky if he reaches the fringe. I am happy if I
reached the fringe. I pray the Lord to further energize the Maestro, to keep us
happy. I am proud I am his contemporary. That I consider an honor .

Thats an excellent trivia Ravi Bhai...

Well, what I could think of is...

1. Fitting a tune of other song into an existing song.. The tune of another
song comes as an Interlude in one existing sng.

In Duet, it happens for En kadhele song.

many more..

Hi everyone,
Now i present the review( its done by SWAPS) of the most beautiful
and the most sweetest song of A R RAHMAN. this song gives me a feel which i
just cant communicate.this song is a pinnacle of a r rahmans musical
wizardry.its a timeless classic. a song that is heard once in a life time . The
review completely narrates the song and tells how splendiferous it is. Music
itself would be stunned that how beautiful it could be, thanks to A R RAHMAN .
NOW Here we go

Ennuir thozhiye (Unnimenon, Chinmayi; lyric by Pa.Vijay):

If I go over the board praising this song, I mean it in every sense & with full
confidence. This song deserves every bit of praise. The Rahman magic works
wonderfully here. After listening to the song, I was assured that all those who
requested ARR to compose like his vintage days, will stop complaining. This
song
has the 'Roja' sound- the freshness of Roja, the experimental nature of Thiruda
thiruda, the uniqueness of Bombay & the simplicity of Pudhiya Mugam. I've
rarely
heard such a beautiful & sweet song in my entire life. Each line of the song is
like a honey-drop.

The song opens with ARR's solo piano. The sound of the piano is scintillating.
ARR attempts a jazz like treatment while sticking to the roots of the main
melody. The song is based on the pentonic Raga Durga (Shuddha Saveri- Sa Re Ma
Pa Dha Sa), which is premierly used by Rahman. The strings (cellos & violins)
support the piano. The piece goes on for about 30 secs & u already crave for
more. Its like an alaap any singer starts before performimg a raga in a
classical concert. He sets the mood of the song with his magical fingers. The
rhythm is set by the heavy bass guitar accompanied by the accoustic guitars.
Unnimenon sings the lines 'Ennuir thozhiye'. Unnimenon's real genius comes out
in this song. He comes out of the Yesudas mould to deliver an original. The
bass
guitar used towards the end of the lines reminds me of the title song of
Enswasa
Katre. Suddenly, the melody shifts to build a musical crescendo. The piano
glides over the notes with the cymbals to create a western symphonic sound,
employing totally different notes (Ni Re Ga Ma Ga, Re Ma Ga, Re Ma Ga, Re Sa Sa
Pa Pa Re, the underlining denotes the notes of the lower octave). The
percussion
arrangement is also of a western nature. Unni returns to sing the pallavi in
Raga Durga. The composition is very smooth. It explores the essence of the
raga.
After 2 lines, the song changes (as the previous music changed). The lines r
'Ineeyavale...' which r sung in a higher pitch.
The 1st interlude is very unique. For once u feel, how beautiful the violin
sounds! But no, its not the violin, its vocals. Chinmayi humms the taanams
flawlessly. Its done so beautifully. The piano follows her, when at times just
glides from the upper notes to the lower ones as if a river is flowing.
The 1st charanam belongs to Chinmayi. She does a fantastic job. Her voice seems
so fresh & calm! The opening lines of the charanam 'Ottrai jadayil..' r very
catchy. The beauty lies in the way it has been composed. Listen to the 2nd line
'enathu kalla sirippazhagil...'. It beautifully drops from an upper note to a
lower one. Immediately, the very next line picks up from Sa Re, Re Dha, Dha Re`
(Kattidithe thangam imay paarthathundaa...sign ` denotes the notes of the
higher
octave) with the strings. This really pours in the tenderness & subtleness in
the song. After the lines 'Oru nanjam undu...' u can hear the violin plucks
(another favourite ARR style). Lastly, the charanam ends with a rather
cross-treatment of notes like Sa`-Pa-Dha-Ma-Dha-Pa-Ma-Re-Sa
(Poo-Poo-en-aasai-theernthathu).
Unni returns to the pallavi.
The 2nd interlude starts with a moorsing-like sound & then pan-flutes enter
(both reproduced electronocally). The pan-flute piece resembles a lot like the
1st interlude of 'Thengizhakku cheemayile' from Kizhakku cheemayile. These
types
of interludes remind u of golden ARR days. The pan-flutes were a common feature
then. There's this percussion with heavy bass (dont know the name) which
appears
in the 2nd interlude & continues till the end. Its played after every 4 counts.
Its the kind of percussion used in 'Chinna chinna aasai' from Roja. Coming
back,
The 2nd charanam is identically same, only difference is that both the singers
distribute their lines. The string arrangement is more evident here.
Interestingly, when Chinmayi sings the lines 'Endhan seviyil sinungukiraay',

of the songs had heavy layerings, and BIG BGMs with a lot of CHORUS and Chord

That is what I want. Kindly pass on some melodies, sweet humming chorus.
unexpected interludes and flute and clarinet. I miss them. In the name of jets

Ah! To even recollect ARR' s initial journey during early 90's, it gives me
immense pleasure and makes me?sail back to those vintage days..where. .i
was unconciously inclined towards music only because of this wonder man, A R
Rahman..! He is the most primary reason for the transition towards Musical
world for me...:)

?

??? This time..i chose "May Maadham".., ?an album with its great melody and
Rahman's signature sheen its full glory and pomp.! I hold this album to be one
of ARR's most spectacular works ever..!!! But i am utterly disappointed by the
fact that this entire album did not do great among the masses. I guess...only
due to this fact, ARR thought of recreating the same magical score for Hindi
audiences in "Love You Hamesha.." , but again failed to create sensation due to
the bad fate of the movie... :-(

?

1) Maarghazhi Poove >? Shobha Chandrashekar

?

( Same as Ek Ladki Thi from Love You Hamesha)

?

??? Can anybody confirm me that this singer (Shobha) is the mother of
popular actor Vijay..??? If so, i wonder why she didnt continue her singing for
long time..? Nevertheless, comng to the song, it begins with a great flute
aalap with a royal touch of "Kausalya Supraja Rama..." - the Suprabhata
chantings- as its backdrops along with the techno beats by Rahman..!! Call it
fusion/ remixgets ur ears a great morning dose of pleasure..!! ! Perfect
ringtone for the mobile phonesloved across south india...even some parts of
North!! Shobha delivers a first class rendition and also the chorus part is
enchanting.. ." Particularly, towards?the end, Shobha and ARR?gives?us a
morning classical??feast to our ears!!!

? An ever memorable Rahman's creation..!! !

?

?

?2) Palakkattu Machhanukku -> Shahul Hameed, G V Prakash Kumar

?

(Same as Botal Tod De in Love You Hamesha)

?

???The demised Shahul Hameed croons this song towards the fag end
of his life along with ARR's own nephew GV Prakash, who's into music these
days..!!! One yearns for Shahul to listen more n more after listening to these
songs. Its a very modern, hep, peppy, trendy song! ARR exhibits his passion for
technology and western instruments in this song so clearly that one can
picturise by hearing.!! GV Prakash, with his very shrill and kiddish voice
provides a naughty atmosphere.

Vintage Techno Rahman at his Best

?

3) Madrasa Sutthi Paarka -> Swarnalatha, Shahul Hameed, Manorama

?

??"Dr r .Drio Na Drio Drio..." Thus
goes the ever chirpy and every witty Manorama, the senior most Comedienne of
Southern Cinema. Thanks to ARR a million times...for having used her voice. The
highly acclaimed Swarnalatha begins her lines with an intention to roam around
the Madras city...great easy-go rendition by her...!! Shahul Hameed and even
GVP makes a cameo in the lines.."All- in-all hero". Manorama brings up a
great wittyness to the ARR tunes...!!

??? A great jolly-go-happy song..!!!

?

4) En Mel Vizhunda > P. Jayachandran , Chitra

?

(Same as Gupchup Baatein from Love You Hamesha)

?

? The legendary singers Chitra and Jayachandran unite to leave
behind a resplendent melody which also doubles as a lullaby. A perfect bed time
song to make your senses ease and relax after a tiresome day. Rahman's lillting
tunes soothes us to the core with Naveen's ever soothing flute piece, a
magnanimous Sitar piece and the ever inspiring rendition by the singer duo.
Vairamuttu's lines?again shines as bright as diamond particularly in the
Antaras..."Mannai Thirandaal Neer Irukkum...En Manadhai Thirandaal Nee
Iruppai..." Absolute Wonder

??? A stunning melody?alias lullaby...!! !

?

?

5) Aadipparu Mangattha -> Malgudi Shubha, Sunita Rao, GV Prakash Kumar

??

??? The "Paree Hu Main.." girl Sunita Rao makes her Tamil Debut with this
racy song about a local game involving the playing cards..!! Malgudi Shubha, as
usual n as expected provides a raunchy, rustic touch to this number. GVP mouths
few lines for the boy in the film. Though not? a very very

[arr] Recommendations for seniors

I am 73, I think I can say that Seniors also tap a stylish foot, when they
hear ARR's fast numbers. The taste and ear for good music does not, at least
for me and my SS friends, change with time. As a matter of fact, if I am asked
when I became a SS, I would not have an answer. 20 of my many favorites are

much]::

The 20 of The Numerous.

If you want to come along

Sonnaalum
Mudhal Morai
Kummi Adi
Kulicha kurtaalam
Chinnammaa
Kannaamoochi
Enge Enathu Kavithai
Evano Oruvan
Konzum Mainakkalae
Oru Poyaavadu
Kadhal Kadhidham
Pookodiyum Punnagai
Narumugaye
Nilai Kagirathu
Ennyur Tholzhiye
Nadiye Nadiye
Endhan Nenzil
Mylarige

I enjoy all those equally.
I have over 50 such songs, I love.
ARR-like composers walk this Planet once in, say 100 years. Even that, I have

man you have to accept it. although it is growing on us and we have
started liking more compared to the first time, but the fact remains
that it is not something liked by the masses. only one song Tu meri
dost would be liked by the masses but not the rest. even recent ARR
albums had many songs loved by masses (and critics) e.g., Tere bina,
Mayya mayya, Barso re (Guru), Pappu, Aditi, Kahin to (JTYJN) etc etc.
Furthermore the fact remains that Yuvvraaj does not have even a single
song which can be called just mibdblowing or plain awesome as per the
ARR standards etc. comparing to Taal it still remains a HUGE
disappointment, if not for us (ARR fans) certainly it is for masses.
the weakest songs of Dil se, Taal or Bombay are still better than
strongest song/s of Yuvvraaj.

lets analyze it. Mastam mastam is good, it grows, melody is Rahmanish,
Sonu is perfect, but again it is not something instantly loved by
masses. Zindagi is again good but nothing exceptional. it heavily
relies on vocals, too little music, no traditional ARR interludes etc.
Man mohini is very good but alas too short, which is completely un-
understandable, why did not ARR put a few more minutes to it???
strange. Dil ka risha is very good again, orchestra is great. it would
be loved more than Zindagi, Mastam, Man mohini by masses. however it
is a very situational song, not something you will find people humming
or playing on streets etc. Shano shano is one of the weakest songs of
ARR ever, people will not find anything special in it. it is not very
different than dozens of Pritam and others' songs releasing every day.
even Pappu (JTYJN) was far far far far far far better. so at the end
the only song remains is Tu muskura which will be liked by the masses
but again there is nothing very special in it. it is likable but not
something blockbuster etc. it is in the league of recent Tu bin bataye
(RDB) and Milo wahan wahan (Ada) though the two were far far better.
just think of some of ARR's biggest hits and ask yourself honestly can
we compare any of Yuvvraaj's songs with Satrangi, Dil se, Chaiyyan
chaiyyan (Dil se) Taal se taal, ishq bina, ramta jogi (Taal), Kehna hi
kya, Hamma hamma, Tu hi re (Bombay) and those from Rangeela, Saathiya,
Lagaan, Roja, Sapnay etc etc or even recent lesser hits rang de
basanti (RDB), khwaja mere khwaja, azeem-o-shaan (JA) etc and those
from Guru etc. and you will get the answer.

hence i am certainly not surprised by the reactions of masses. ARR
here really disappointed, because of Ghai-ARR combo people were
expecting something as fantastic as Taal, but there is no comparison
between Taal and Yuvvraaj. at least if you ask me if i give 10/10 to
Taal i will give only 4/10 to Yuvvraaj. ARR should have experimented
in some other low profile album but certainly not in Yuvvraaj. also a
film solely based on music certainly required some instantly classic
music, like Taal.

[arr] Yuvraj music has a personality of its own

2008-10-17 Thread csrao
My favorites, however, are:
?
Dil Ka Rishta
Manmohini Morey
Mastam Mastam
Zindagi
Tu Muskura;

not, necessarily, in that order. While listening to,? rather enjoying and
drinking in,? these tracks, I do not dream of Taal, etc. I learned to enjoy
what is served and what is on my plate, if it is good and served by my
favorite. These compositions have their own personality. They ARE unique. And
are from our favorite.
Happy listening.

[arr] Rahman snubs Yash Chopra...dishonest journalism

2008-10-12 Thread csrao

An overwhelming response from the colleague music lovers. The love for the
legend is unbelievable, but well deserved. At the same time , let us step back
for a while and see whether we should be doing what we are doing.
1.The subject matter is a secret negotiation between the two? on a commercial
and business project.

 2. We do not know any thing about it. What transpired, what was proposed, what
was accepted and what was rejected.
3. Some adventurous journalist, perhaps, wearing a pair of yellow tinted
glasses, allowed his imagination run riot or allowed his wishful thinking to
get dressed with his imagination
4. This is not to say that the proposal has not fallen through. What I mean is
that we do not , nor the reporter did, know what transpired at the meeting.
Both the negotiators are not naive enough to give away the gist, the way that
was reported.
I for one will be happy, and enjoy those mails that examine, appreciate and
analyze the The Great Musician's, let me say rather Magician's, marvelous and
ageless, peerless, compositions.
I always thank God that I am the contemporary of The Great ARR. I leave his
business and how he goes about it, to himself. Let him give the admirers THE
Music. That will suffice. Never mind it comes from which stable or at what
time, that is when the Sun is shining or the Moon is shining.. I ask no more. I
know that he will never be wrong and will never be money minded.
Only my reflections and loud thinking.
Best Listening,

[arr] THE INCOMPARABLE MUSICAL MIRACLE-THE GREAT ARR

2008-09-17 Thread csrao

The great ARR does not need any certificates or defenses or comparisons, as to
His contemporary musical excellence and contemporary musical superiority. It is
my personal, repeat personal, opinion that HE reached Himalayan heights and one
need not make another one small, to make ARR look bigger. ARR is at once human
and humane. God fearing. Exudes humility. Displays understanding and reverence,
where they are deserved and are due. These rare attributes are, in addition to
the Divine music that flows from him like perennial sacred river, in which each
one of us are getting immersed, with pleasure, day in and day out. In other
words, what I am trying to think loud is, instead of spending so many words in
defending, where defense is absolutely superfluous, THE Musical BOSS. And a
lesser number of words on saying or proving, where proof is not needed, that
others are not as good and as original, we all can listen to a particular song
composed by our ARR, say on a Monday, and the
rest of the week, we can say what nuances we detected and what twists we did
not notice earlier, on which spots the Genius is more evident and how and where
the instrumentalists excelled and where one liked the singer's contribution
most. This will facilitate the not so observant also to enjoy the song more.
The song of the week will, thus, be owned by all, literally, with full
awareness.
Please ignore if this is impracticable and not in the interests of this Group
of ARR-fans.

[arr] ARR"S worst [?] composition

2008-07-24 Thread csrao
It is odd that we should be on a vigorous search for the worst composition of
the great and much admired composer who has no parallels. Will it be very
difficult for us to stop these negative searches?

Re: [arr] Re: I HOPE U PEOPLE CAN CLARIFY THIS!!!

2008-06-25 Thread csrao
I will be least surprised if the so called professional and/or amateur
experts with insight, find fault, one day, with our great MD, the legend at
his forties [?], for using "sa re ga ma pa da ni" and the standard ragaas. I
wish we stop detective work coupled with sadistic pleasure, and learn to
enjoy what is served, which is a glorious serving for the music lovers.

[arr] Rahaman defined music and instrumentation afresh

2008-06-05 Thread csrao
Friends,
I do not know how much I am qualified or not qualified to say some thing on
this knowledge forum. Though I am with the group for months on, this is my
first posting. My favorites are almost all the songs of ARR. As a matter of
fact I am, eminently placed to get disqualified from belonging to this
Group. I do not know Hindi. I do not Know Tamil. I do not have any knowledge
of Music. Above all this, I am aged all of 72 years. But I have a gut
feeling about and instant reaction to good tunes, good instrumentation and
calm, soothing and vibrant music.
That day ages back when I first heard songs from Roja, I instinctively knew
that this gentleman arrived to thrill us forever and take us on a musical
raid of un-scalable and unimaginable heights. He elevated cine music to
unattainable heights.
I have a good collection of his Tamil songs which I love many, I like all.
Daily, I listen to these songs for 2 to 4 hours. They refresh me, keep me
fit and energetic. Arr's uniquness, according to me, I repeat, according to
me,, lies in:
1. Treating voice [male or female] as yet another instrument, to be played
upon.
2. Each of his song is a symphony. To reach those heights and lows in 3/4
minutes is possible only to him.
3. He is a master at creating heavenly interludes which are more often than
not are the highlights of many songs.
4. I had never heard any one using drums [or allied instruments], shehnai,
[I am not worried about exact names, as long as I enjoy them], flute to
this advantage. How he introduces weaving them in to the voice, takes them,
leaving the voice behind, to a solo crescendo and taper off, very
effectively, yet all in a fraction of a minute, which is humanly impossible.
He is Blessed, if not he himself is Divine.
5. I divide the Indian cine music era in to two segments. PreARR and PostARR
eras. In the PreARR era we used to ask who sang that song? Rafi or Kishore.
Now we ask who composed it? That is the power duly acquired and got by our
honored ARR.
I have my own two Play-lists of ARR's Tamil songs. One I play in whichever
mood I am in. These songs are level-all gems. The second list I play when I
feel I am in good and high spirit!
In other words, what I am saying is that I adore those, around 70, Tamil
songs tuned by ARR, even though I do not know the language. Proving, if
proof is needed, music has no language. Rather It is ARR who proved it
through millions like me. Let us not enter in to Lilliputian arguments over
that GIANT Musician whose presence amongst us we are fortunate to have.
The Beauty is I hear his songs even when I am not listening to them!!!
Thanks to those haunting and teasing melodies and tunes.
