Dear rahmaniacs,

I didn't keep any sort of intention to prove anything while writing this
message. It's just an open communication to my beloved brothers and sisters in
this wonderful group. This whole fiasco surrounding the CWG theme is killing
me. Where ever I go online there's something written about it, and the
negativity is suffocating me slowly. For the last couple of days I have stopped
visiting movies and news online portals. It's like this fan club is the only
place where I can visit. Recently a tweet from a gentleman in Vishal's page
pushed me to the brink. I even cried, man.He said something, which was beyond
my imagination. Quote, pls ask him abt CWG anthem. Can he do any worse?
Shameful. This made me think how ungrateful people can get. Keeping aside the
fact that, ARR won 14 filmfare awards, four national awards, sold over 100
million records, won a goldenglobe, a bafta and two Oscars; this is the man who
redefined Indian film music. He did good and much
for the Indian film industry is the understatement of the century. He made
bollywood cool. Not only shaped the music of India, but all new musicians or
should I say, this new era of music in the whole south asia is solely
influenced by Ar rahamn. I'm a Bangladeshi. Every new musician rises in our
country openly acknowledge ARR as their inspiration. I know so many sri-lankans
and Pakistani musicians living in USA, and every single one of them said ARR is
considered a musical god in their music industry. He's the most recognized
Indian world over. Sorry to say, even more than Sachin and shahrukh. I lived in
USA most of my life, honestly even before Oscars, everyone knew him and
respected him so much. And they still do. He has worked with western symphony
and orchestra way before anyone could think about it. Then how could a man, a
legend of his stature be dragged down so easily. The media fucked up we all
know that. Not only in India, but world-over ,
media creates controversy for their own profit. So this is understandable, but
how could general people write such things about rehman sir. How could they?

There are still tears in my eyes, while I'm writing this letter. I thought I
should share it with someone, and what this is the only place I felt
comfortable doing it. Man we strive, to be like ARR. Young, talented musicians
work hard day and night to achieve the musical excellence or reach even one
fourth close to it. This kind of reaction from the general mass and media is
very discouraging. Then what's the worth of working hard if people don't
acknowledge your talent or effort. I know even ARR has his critiques, and
always had. It's very normal to dislike someone's work. It's a relative thing,
but writing remarks like he brought to this country is disgraceful and
inexcusable. I will never forget the people and the things they have said about
sir. He's my god, I can't take it. I don't see Lataji or Sachin ji getting
ridiculed like this. ARR's contribution is not an inch less than them, it's
actually more. It is very unfair. I don't get it. Of he was
born in Bnagladesh, he would have been considered as a national hero, the
biggest asset of the country, not a pop or musical icon that can be loved or
hated anytime. I'm extremely sorry for the way I'm reacting. But he's beyond
these things. I have no intention to hurt a yone, nwither I'm tryin to prove
any point. I'm just expressing my feelings to lighten myself up. I got very
emotional. I couldn't control myself and wrote this letter in the spontaneity
of the moment. I consider all the members here my brothers and sisters. If you
can't go to your friends, when our down, then who can you go to, right? Anyways
I apologize once again, for writing this long, boring letter to you all. I hope
you all get the inner meaning that I wanted to convey, going beyond the
writings. Take care, bye

Oh Man!! But why do we need this false propaganda? I cant believe people didnt
like this song. I hear this song all the day and night it has a lot of vibe and
for the past few days i am starting my day with this song. But ofcourse opinion
differs, May be they genuinely didnt like this song or didnt have the so
called feel. I accept it but for godsake never ever say that Shakira's Waka
Waka song is better than CWG theme. I am trying to stay calm but sorry to say
Its absoutely ridiculous. Its such an amateurish song when compared to his
composition. Few reasons i could figure why Waka Wka was so popular among the
masses were because
1: It has Shakira in it
2: It was about Football
and the reason why CWG theme is generating such speculations COULD BE because
1: A.R.Rahman was paid 5+ crores for this song
2: It was about common wealth games (who cares atleast 50%(or even more) of our
population wouldnt know what are all the games played in the event and where it
is scheduled to be held this year)

If the reasons were not found convincing then better have your friend who had
neither heard waka waka nor CWG theme and play both the songs one after the
other. Then ask him which one is best. My friend unanimously said it was CWG
theme.

Sorry!! Big blunder in my previous post.

I meant to say But on the other hand, if after multiple listens some of us
honestly feel it isn't ARR quality, I really DON'T think we should pretend to
like it and artificially promote it just because it's an ARR creation.

Missed out the don't which altered the meaning completely. Should have read
more carefully before posting. Sorry!

 and is justified.

But on the other hand, if after multiple listens some of us honestly feel it
isn't ARR quality, I really think we should pretend to like it and
artificially promote it just because it's an ARR creation. That would
amount to lowering our expectations of him, which undermines his immeasurable
genius. After all he himself has taught us to expect nothing but the best
from him. I remember hearing him say in an interview to all his fans
Appreciate ONLY good music, don't appreciate everything.

He is too great a creative genius to be affected by what's going on.
Occasional setbacks are inevitable in anyone's life and for someone like ARR,
one setback isn't going to have any effect on his stature. I know he's being
subjected to a lot of unjust criticism, but he'll only emerge stronger and
better. He really is way above such things!

If this song were composed by anyone else, it would not face such harsh
criticism. Kind of unfair. But then we can't really compare ARR with anyone
else. He is a class of his own and warrants extreme levels of expectations!

the other albums that has been released so far (this year). Its got all the
ingredients which we have never heard so far it was totally a magical album
which i was expecting from him for years . Moreover it has got variety in it
unlike VTV which was so inclined towards western audience and some of the songs
like omana penne, kannukkul kannai, anbil avan just made me switch over though
i have it in my playlist. I find enthiran more engaging too.

Amazing! Love what AR does with his singers. Every song brings out a

Kata Kata vs Keda Kari - both very special songs in the latest Mani-AR treat.
One of the the two songs I like equally from Raavan and Raavanan.

Ok SENTHIL... U can now be the HAPPIEST PERSON!! The SONG is NOT at
all a COPY!! Instead, the GUITAR in our song is played in a STYLE
similar to it.. The HOOKS are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and ORIGINAL!!! It
was Roger Waters who introduced this style, and we had THANKED him in
FORUMS, when VTV released!! I hope u missed the posts! The SAME style
can be seen in atleast 1000 songs today!!

And I feel, AROMALAE is the BEST among them!!
Always remember! ARR= 100% ORIGINALITY! He never RIPS OFF any hook or
tune.. Instead, he gets influenced by a number, and creates another
COMPLETELY ORIGINAL piece in that genre!

The BEST example (I QOUTED this atleast a 100 times in this group),
is the CHANDRALEKHA song from THIRUDA THIRUDA(1993) . ARR was
influenced by Michael Jackson.. But, created a NEW and COMPLETELY
ORIGINAL song, in that GENRE, which became the BEST song ever created
in that GENRE!! Even MJ was a fan of the song..and the legend too
never came up with a song matching CHANDRALEKHA' s grandeur!!

MJ was a LEGEND!
ARR is the LIVING LEGEND!!

 Hi Vinu,

Ya i completely understand. I myself a typical fan of rahman but it hurts
when a genious like him explicitly reuses the same tune. My outburst is just
comparable to a common spectator who blames our Indian cricket team for
losing the most crucial match. By the way listen to first 30 secs of the
song from this link disseminated earlier. I will be the happiest person if
 i am wrong.

He said, THE COMOSER WHO SINSG EQUALLY WELL is SHANKAR... WHich
means..Shankar is d best when composing+singing comes... He did not mean that
SHankar is the best composer in INDIA... He said, SHankar is the best composer
who can sing...

Personally, I feel, ARR is not juz sufiana... His VOICE is the best in the
world in the Genre of POP too No one can match him!!!

Thursday evening (27'th Nov ) in Pune... Terrorist
 attacks were on in
Mumbai... At 6PM, on S-FM 93.5, Pune Police chief gave a
 public
broadcast about dos' and dont's during these
 testing times. The
message was quite grim and conveyed the seriousness of the
 situation...

The message ended and without any announcement sounds
 of Rahman's
REVIVAL (VandeMataram) filled the air It felt so
 reassuring, as if
someone is soothing / calming the frayed nerves

I stopped my car on the side of road.. I could not
 continue my
journey as my eyes were filled with tears

Rahman's music has healing touch it's a pity
 that these terrorists
 have not heard Rahman's music

May God give strength to the families of those who died in
 these
attacks, to overcome this huge tragedy.

I too have noticed that Rahman has been emphasizing melody much more
of late and creating tunes that are much easier to follow and digest,
yet not compromising his signture or brilliance.

well i would disagree. his recent music clearly shows he has
compromised his signature style and brilliance of his 90s music. e.g.
the result is Tu meri dost hai and Guzarsih, while both songs are very
mass appealing and instant hits, they clearly lack the distinct ARR
feeling/sound his music used to have in old days. i remember someone
commenting on Guzarish that it looks like some anu malik song and not
an ARR song. though i will completely disagree with the anu malik
thing but i agree that day by day ARR's music is becoming more and
more similar to other ordinary bollywood music. this is a HUGE
compromise at least for me.

My parents, who are music lovers and very knowledgeable about
classical music, have always admired Rahman's music. However, there
was always a BUT whenever they would talk about Rahman, or if I
was
praising Rahman's music in front of them. That BUT was followed
by,
Rahman is a genius, has different music, but he's more into rhythm
and his songs are very difficult to sing. Even on music
reality
shows like SaReGaMaPa, previously, when someone would sing a Rahman
song, at least one of the judges would say, Yeh Gaana Bohut Mushkil
hai, or This song is very difficult.

Granted, my parents and others from that generation have not heard
Rahman's music in total or to the extent that we have, so they are
not
as aware of many of the timeless melodies in both Hindi and Tamil by
him.

Since, Guru, however, and esp this year, however, I have noticed a
big
change in not only my parents' attitudes towards Rahman, but from
others' from that generation, who revere the timeless mmelodies from
their time. Whenever I bring up Rahman now, they are all praise and
have no more BUT or HOWEVER in their descriptions. They are
listening to his CDs more and even revisiting old classics from
Rahman, which they previously would label as too rhythmic or too
difficult to sing. Maybe they are getting used to his style, but I
have a feeling they are recognizing a shift in emphasis as described
 below.

I too have noticed that Rahman has been emphasizing melody much more
of late and creating tunes that are much easier to follow and
digest,
yet not compromising his signture or brilliance. There may be
changes
in his arrangements, sound, etc., but I really do think that
Rahman's
sense of melodic composition has been more emphasized with better
contours and form. Since Roja, Rahman has always been a melody
king,
but I feel that he is letting the melody and the singer take on a
more
important role in his compositions than sound, some arrangements,
and
rhythm. For the elders, it's a welcome change. For some of us
youngsters, and Rahman fans, it's not as welcomed.

As far as I'm concerned, Rahman is THE only torch bearer from the
evergreen era of bollywood music which had timeless melodies that
are
enjoyed even today. Just goes to show how Rahman's music is
appreciated by all regions and all ages.
