[arr] Bombay Theme on Claude Challe's Flying Carpet
I was browsing at Tower Records today and I saw an Asian/Middle Eastern compilation album called Flying Carpet, by Claude Challe, which includes the Bombay theme (listed as the Mumbai theme) by AR Rahman. Amazon.com says the album was mixed by Claude Challe, so I'm not sure if he's remixed the tracks. Or maybe he just compiled the songs.

Hi all, I recently went on a road trip into the outback with a friend, around 450 km from melbourne (imagine vast open lands with nothing but trees and grasslands, hardly any people for miles). We had a few travelling guides and were visiting places that looked intersting. One such spot was a vineyard in place called milawa, absolutly in the middle of nowhere. We did some wine tasting and I hear the bombay theme playing (no its not the wine doing it). I mean, here we are in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of kms from civilization and they are playing The Bombay Theme. It absolutely made my day. We were the only indians in the place and recognized it immidiately. The others did not seem to recognize the theme but most of them seemed to be enjoying the music. Hi, I am a student of IIM Bangalore. Students from foreign univs. come to our campus and study for one term, which is known as the student exchange program... On wednesday, there was a welcome program for these people and we had to perform music and dance which will showcase our Indian culture. I along with 3 people chose only A.R.Rahman songs and performed them... I had already prepared a great write-up about A.R.Rahman and read it out b4 our performance. I played the BOMBAY THEME MUSIC the foreigners were so impressed with the music.. After the show, one french student told me that she had heard the "Bombay Theme" music many times in Paris in malls etc.. and she loved it.. but she had been trying to find out what music it was and who was the composer.. Hi friends, I am yet another silent member of this site.. recently I was browsing thru some yahoo group message archive found an interesting stuff! There is one old post i found around 1999-2000 time which says that the BOMBAY theme is copied/inspired from a Russian theme song. Dont have much details about this except that a guy called Ganesh who is a flutist had this song with him.
