Great post!! I completely agree... Let's discuss something else instead of the negativity going around the media...I personally request members not to post cheap comments from various sites that don't bring any value to our man or any one in this group for a purposeful analysis. Posting such things will only increase hatred among people, some may get angry, some may criticize other music directors, and so on which is totally uncalled for...Let's not add fuel and allow it to grow...Let's bring the positive vibes back again... hi manisha, thanks a lot for the nice compilation of AR's quotes.. at a time when there's so much negativity, with respect to bad reviews and AR has lost it claims, these quotes create such a nice air of feel-good... special thanks for including quote no.1 :) That was AR's answer to my question on rediff! RE: [arr] Food for thought
I don't give a damn about public opinion these days. If movies like Swades and Yuva are deemed flops, then so be it. Nobody ever has made a difference following mass acceptance. As long as what Boss is creating musically is of quality and high standard that is what matters. I hope he continues to strive to do different things because the fruits of his efforts will be seen 10-20 years later when the current youngsters come to the public eye. I think movie directors need to make up their mind now. They need to approach making movies from a 'musical' perspective or 'serious or artsy' perspective. The Rising is a perfect example of somebody being caught in between these two and as a result not making the impactthe movie would have had if they had focused on either genre. It would have worked either way. This is where Bollywood needs to learn from Hollywood. Focus, focus, focus. It's time to make tough decisions and make some changes if we are to ever be accepted in an international market. Lagaan was a perfect example of a musical entertainer. The songswere not fillers, but enhanced the story, the songs were used cleverly and had so much character. The Rising wasspoilt because the songs were put in as fillers, although songs by themselves were extremely good. So, directors, pull up your socks and make up your minds! Re: [arr] Food for thought
Are you relating the success of the music with the film or the film with the music? I would like to think it was the movies that were at fault, rather than his music. And come on he only did a couple of tracks in Kisna and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha. I don't think it's coincidence. Maybe bad directors. Re: [arr] Food for thought
Yes, that is precisely what I am doing, relating the success of the music with that of the film. I am NOT suggesting that Rahman's music was responsible for the failure of the films, but that its extremely naive to insist that as long as Rahman's music is good (which opinion is highly subjective), he will be fine, irrespective of the fate of the film. The success of the music, and therefore, Rahman's success itself is strongly wedded to the success of the film and sooner or later, this spate of failures is going to cause him heartburn, financially and in terms of reputation. While its debatable if the failures were due to a poor choice of films or plain bad luck or something else, the fact remains that if 'Rahman' and 'Hit' don't figure in the same row soon, there is going to be some irreparable damage to his career. And BTW, Ajit, I don't have to be Anti-ARR to be genuinely concerned for his well-being and this post was inspired by the post on Planet Bollywood. --- Vanitha G [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: - Are you relating the success of the music with the film or the film with the music?
