What were the dummy words in Azeem O Shaan that you are refering to? that Dim tom tana nana... or that ta ra ra ta re re or that chhan chhan. I always thought that all these are classical touch or just hummings, but not dummy words. For that matter, in Takshak there was an entire song that had this dim tara nana sort of thinggy. Dummy words are different, more like mastam, rushtam, shushtam, that just gets put there and don't exist in the language. Other things like "Azeem O Shaan", "Furwa rawa", "marhaba", "Jalaludin", etc. these are full fledged words of urdu/ persian/ arabic languages. They have real meanings, translations, they are widely used. These are not dummy words. -- Rawat > > --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, "ichord" wrote: >> It's not the fact that he uses them, it's the way he uses them. >> >> >> >> --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, V S Rawat wrote: >>> On 9/12/2009 3:18 AM India Time, _ichord_ wrote: >>> First there was "O Saya" from SDM, and now "O Ya Sa" from Blue. Indeed! It also proves that whatever some members here are equating music with mathematics, lyrics surely are not mathematics. Two independent words or syllables when written together give an altogether different meaning. And the above reinforces my petty (some find it not "petty") peeve about our man roughshodding lyrics to let the music have its way. The above 4 pairs of two words each now sound so beautiful, so meaningful, so well written, so simple yet ocean-deep, that it was unjustified that ARR used them so that none of we could understand a single of them all the while we all have been listening to it 24x7. I think some might still find it wordsmithing - just putting the rhyming words together, but the way I look into lyrics, I am feeling that the above is much better than entire guzarish forced rhyming, though second line pairs in the above could have been slightly more related. For those of us who are not much into hindi, here is the translation: khoya sa - somewhat lost paya sa - somewhat like having gained something saaya sa - somewhat shadowey soya saa - somewhat sleepy Thanks a gig, dear aristocratic bureaucrat, for sharing this with us. You made by day by highlighting the deeper meaning. -- Rawat

Thanks to this group for providing so useful inputs that makes me like our man's music much more. I feel sad that millions of ARR fans who are not getting such inputs from this group or elsewhere would be missing the beauty of ARR's songs by not getting the lyrics correctly. -- Rawat

Radio Ceylon even had a full program at one time in 70s (I think) in which they played only the songs having dummy words. [arr] Rahman a fan of "Ya" and "Sa"?
First there was "O Saya" from SDM, and now "O Ya Sa" from Blue. Can see how AR is a fan of these sounds!!! I love how AR uses nonsense syllables and words in a song, almost as if he's adding another instrument track through the vocals. That is really unique and special about him! Notice in Yaar Mila..."kudikudikudikudikudiya!" and then "atha atheena a theen theen teena" He's just amazing!
