The lyrics are inspired by "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" but the
music is original.

My original post was only related to what Rahman said in the interview
and not accusing him of anything.

Why is that people are always trying to look for every single note to try
and say Rahman copies or plagiarizes! Why this obsession ! Is there anyone
who wants us to stop listening to Rahman! Does anyone have a vengeance to
take against rahman! what if his indeed inspired for one particular

Rawat,

I agree with you.But dont you think that rahman puts in maximum amount of
creativity in the music he composes? . Rahman does have role in lyrics, but he
cant suggest any major changes, the basic idea of lyrics to have, comes from
director, then the lyricist and then the composer role comes inHere both the
lyricist and director are the same.

One good example is..Gulzar had written the lyrics of Chayyian Chayyian as
Thaiyyan Thaiyyan...but rahman had insited and got the words Chayyian
Chayyian.Correct me if i am wrong on this.

Thanks for your view on this. :-)

I think that is not a correct view of the situation.

Music Director is ultimately responsible for entire music including the
lyrics, the renderings, the instruments, whatever. Every person involved
in the creation of a song does what the Music Director asks him to do.
They all don't really have a free-will in it, but only have to use their
creativity.

So, saying that ARR is not responsible for lyrics is sort of undermining
ARR's efforts that he puts in his music.

Such small similarities of a phrase or two are not really a copying
becuase with so many movies and so many songs being composed, u will
soon find that all phrases have already been used so all new songs which
use these phrases will be counted as copied.

I think ARR or any MD is responsible for the lyrics also.

Good that you give a reference now. Always do this in your first mail rather

Anyways it doesnt take rocket science to figure out
that the lyrics are
inspired but not the music. Which i think everyone would agree we dont care.

Hey Ya all
Just for my reference, do you think all this crap
about the song being inspired or copied is going to
stop you from listening to Rahman's music from next
time on, if yes go ahead, if not leave it here, I
think we would be Rahman Fan's at the end of the day.

Re: [arr] Tu Bole Main Boloon is inspired from which song?

2008-05-29 Thread Ramesh R
Of course! It's nothing to do with the tune. Inspiration doesn't always have to
be about the music. It's just the concept of a talking about different
viewpoints-
"You say . and I say "
"Tu bole ..., main boloon ... "
The Fitzgerald-Armstrong version of the song has been used in a number of
movies in the context of difference of opinions between a guy and girl (most
notably in When Harry Met Sally)

Lastly, the setting is jazz. And those trumpet lines sound like a tip of the
hat to Louis Armstrong.

I'm not sure why some folks think that the song from "Aa Gale Lag Ja" is the
one being referred to. Aside from the phrase "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" there's
nothing in common with Tu Bole. OK, they had Genelia sing that phrase for the
promos but that's as far as it goes.

I should say there are quite a few members who are replying without even
fully understanding the discussion going on..
Guys, honestly, do you think ARR would ever use a tune that was not his ?
Please do some research before shooting off emails.
Thanks.

There was a 1973 Film "Aa Gale Lag Ja" song (music by RDB) that had
lines "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na... Maane Tu Ya Maane Na..." at the end of
the mukhda. There is Kishore version, and a kid version. Father and son
singing it for each other, I guess.

Aamir might have chosen title of his film from that song and that is
quite OK, I think. The songs were good, popular, soulful, stirring.

The songs are available to listen at:
http://www.apunkabollywood.net/browser/category/view/1150/aa-gale-lag-jaa-(1973)

Check first one "Tera Mujhse (male)" and the 5th one "Tera Mujhse (duet)"

There is no similarity between these two and ARR's two songs. I don't
know why this controversy started at all.

There's another version with Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong

Subject: [arr] Tu Bole Main Boloon is inspired from which song?

Rahman mentioned in the latest interview that the title track of Jaane
Tu is inspired from an original song form yester-year. Anyone know
that song? It was probably a number back in the 40s or 50s in the US,
so not many would be able to notice the similarities. Rahman seems to
have admitted that he composed very close to the original song.
