Crystal Reports in v7

2008-05-27 Thread sileem hassan
Hi all,
we are actuylly migrating to ARS v7. One of the main problems ist that some of
the Crystal Reports do not work anymore. Always we get the following error
message:

0x80043ac3 - File not found.
Details: error (ARERR 1904)

After searching the archive here we tried to rename thfolder \common
files\business object\3.0 and reinstalled the user tool. But that didn't help
in that case. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Sileem

Web Services XML Questions - Very Interesting Implementation

2008-05-27 Thread renato.fichmann
Hi Guys,
I have a ITSM7 / ARS 7 system and we'd like to heavily use the web
services interface to connect our Remedy infrastructure to several
different systems such as alarm systems, other ITSM solutions, CRM
based application among others.

We've faced several limitation in regarding Web services, BMC is
giving us some options around 3rd part applications in between, which
is not the best solution at the moment. The issues are:

1. When the consumer system updates only some fields, like incident
status through the out of the box webservices interface and form,
Remedy set the other fields as NULL. This documented limitation forces
the interface to either populates all the fields in the incident form,
even if they are only changing a single field, or find an alternative
solution.

2. In the other direction when pushing content to a provider, the
requirement is to send more than just the incident related fields, but
also the CIs related and some additional related subforms. The out of
the box solution doesn't care about transaction control, retries, log
or any other type of control.

Have you guys experimented any of these situations in your
infrastructure? What about the high level solutions for these demands?

Regards,

Hi Serouche,

These are the following steps for the integration of Source Control wihin the
remedy.
1. First install Microsoft VSS or ClearCase VSS.
2. Check your VSS is working correctly or not.
3. After that Login into ARAdmin tool.
4. Go into File tab->Server Information->Source Control tab
5. Then Check Enable Source Control Integration
6. Put the Provider Name, You can choose from drop down menu.
7. After that Browse for the Project Name, we can create here a new
project.
8. After that Apply, and finally press the button OK.
9. Restart the server, login again into ARAdmin,
10.You will get integration with VSS.

   Hope this helps...

I have used Source Safe before and that worked very well. I would only put in
source safe new or modified workflow. Don't try to put all of the out of
the box workflow and forms in source control. But before you modify anything
put it in source control and check out to make the change. It really helps to
start source control on day one that you start customizations. Upgrades can be
accomplished easier as well because you know all that you have changed.

SLM Collector Service and Apache Tomcat 5.5.17

2008-05-27 Thread Joe DeSouza
I have a development environment where I have to set the Remedy Mid-Tier on a
Apache Tomcat server version 5.5.17 that is locally installed. I have to have
the SLM collector service to use this same tomcat engine..
So after installing the SLM engine, the SLM collector service and the Apache
Tomcat service fight for the same port. As a result I had to stop the tomcat
service if I want the SLM collector service to start and vice versa.. They both
cannot run at the same time.
I was told by someone in Remedy support that it is possible to run the mid tier
application without turning on the Apache Tomcat service as the SLM collector
service already initiates the tomcat engine. However with the Apache Tomcat
service down, I can only manage to successfully open the login pages of both
the Mid-Tier user login or the Mid-tier config page.
The moment I enter the password and try to login I get the HTTP Status 500
error -
For the config application I get this error when I login..

Kevin,

*I think* I ran into the same issue..I'm using:
dap://AD/DC=,DC=com??sub?(objectclass=user)

A lot of the fields don't show up but what you can do is add a character field,
go to the database tab and in the [Database] name field and the [Vendor
Information] name field enter the AD object name. I forget the tool I used to
scavenge all the column names but its in the Windows Support tools pack (ADSI
edit works but there's another, less intrusive one for viewing AD objects...)

Hello ARSList,

Area LDAP - Setup and works with out any issue; AD users can login and use
Remedy client with AD credentials. (Thanks again to all that helped!!)

ARDBC LDAP - Setup with the following -

Host Name* - tcdc1.testco.com
Port Number - 389
Bind User - testco\tuser1
Bind Password - *
Use Secure Socket Layer - No
Directory Page size - 1000
LDAP Date-Time format - AD Generalized Time
Base DN for Discovery* - dc=testco,dc=com
ARDBC Plugin Cache - No

Under ARAdmin, I am able to create a new Vendor form and I can select
ARSYS.ARDBC.LDAP.

I see lots and lots of Available Vendor Tables.

Here is the issue - Active Directory users are not located in one single ou.

If I manually enter the vendor table
ldap://tcdc1/dc=testco,dc=com??sub?(objectclass=user)
I get some of the available columns, not all of them that exist on a user
object. I'm missing email, telephone, etc. (I can get all of the fields when a
specific ou is in the vendor table qualifier, however only those users in the
ou show up...this won't work)

However, If I manually enter the vendor table
ldap://tcdc1/dc=testco,dc=com??sub?(&(objectclass=user)(employeeId=*)(mail=*))
I get the columns for employeeID and email, but there are still columns
missing. Plus, when I do a search on this form in the AR User application it
only returns employees that have email addresses, I know for a fact that there
are employees that have no email addresses, I need all employees regardless if
these fields are blank (or null).

How do I write an LDAP qualifier that includes all of the Active Directory
fields on a user object, regardless if the field has a value or not?

I’ve checked ARSList and developer community already.

Please help this is the last piece.

Thanks,

Kevin P.

Re: AR System Log Display

2008-05-27 Thread Leonard Neely - FOJ
Hi Janie,

If you find that there's a setting to control this, be sure to let me know.
I use the ASLogDisplay a lot and for Active Links, it pretty easy to read,
but for Filter,SQL, API, etc, it's a little challenging.

It's a great tool, but the thing I don't like about it, is that you can't
search the text or copy and paste to another document. So, what I normally
do is this:

1. Start the log to capture the output I'm interested in.
2. Save the output to an .rtf format (the default).
3. Open the document in MSWord
4. Perform a Find and Replace as follows: (do not include the double
quotes)

a. Find: " " (Note that there is a space before the "<"
b. Replace: "^p" (note: The "^p" is a carriage return)

This puts the filter logging in the same format as with Active Links. At
this point, I usually copy the entire document contents (CTRL+A ), and paste
into a new Notepad document, because I just like to work with it there, but
that a matter of preference.

I know this seems like a lot of steps just to look at a log, but after a
while, you tend to get a rhythm going.

HTH

Re: AR System Log Display

2008-05-27 Thread Thad K Esser
Janie,

I never use ARLogDisplay, and a cursory glance just now didn't show any
options for setting word wrapping. I think most normal text editors have
an option for "word wrapping" that you can set to display everything on
one line. Of course, then you have to scroll to the right to see the
whole line, but it is easier to read. I use Textpad
(http://www.textpad.com/ ), and others here have different favorites. When
reading filter logs, I sometimes use the "Block Select Mode" in Textpad to
chop off the beginning part of each line that I usually don't need.

ConText (http://www.contexteditor.org/ ) has a file compare feature which
comes in handy sometimes for comparing def files.

Re: ARS 7_1 ARERR 9352 A form definition has been changed, so unable to retrive data.

2008-05-27 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Dear M Crawford,

If the problem is limited to only the Mid-Tier then my first instinct
would be to flush the Mid-Tier cache. (But that may not fix the
problem by itself.) You may also want/need to restart the JSP Engine
(and/or web server) too.

FWIW: It may matter what version of the ARS server your using too.
(Some features of the 7.1 Mid-Tier do not work with older ARS servers.
Maybe you stumbled into an undocumented incompatibility?)

ARS 7_1 ARERR 9352 A form definition has been changed, so unable to retrive data.

2008-05-27 Thread MCrawford
Greetings,

A single user account is receiving the following error message: "A
form definition has been changed, so unable to retrieve data. Please
contact administrator (ARERR 9352)"

The error occurs when he logs into the mid-tier web platform, opens
the incident management console, and double clicks any ticket listed.

The ErrorMessages PDF document adds this: "The definition of a form
that users have loaded was changed in such a way that a table on the
form cannot be refreshed."

The error only appears when logged in as this user on the mid tier web
platform. When logging in with his account on the client, the error
does not appear. This is an our-of-the-box HPD:Helpdesk form, with 2
filters applied. The user is an Incident Master, with a floating
license. His account was working correctly before the Memorial Day
weekend. Nothing has changed since then that I can identify. I am
the only administrator. The ErrorMessages document is extremely vague
and I can not seem to track down a source for this error. Can any of
you point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance, M Crawford

The good news, Frank, is that LOB, like many other values in the ITSM
Configuration, is optional. If it doesn't fit your org., or if you can't
figure out how it fits, don't use it. Don't buy trouble by
over-complicating the app. - it's complicated enough as it is.

Service Desk 7 Support Group Role - Definitions

2008-05-27 Thread Frank Ginny
Hope ya all had a safe and fun holiday,

Now back to the grindstone. I am looking into the support group roles, Help
Desk, Tier 1,Tier 2,Tier 3,Line Of Business, particularly in the Service Desk
7.x application.
So, I know the first 4 roles and how they relate to assignments.
However, I can't find any real BMC definition as to the support role - Line Of
Business.
How does this support group role work in Service Desk 7.x? (workflow, etc)
When should you assign this role?
Is there any BMC or ITIL definition for the role of Line of Business? (My guess
is - this role is a non-IT support role, that it is for some aspect of
supporting the business in some general fashion. Am I correct?)
I have found KM-10044151 and it defines the first 4 roles and gives a great
example of how the assignment process works, however it states nothing about
the Line Of Business role.

Sincerely,

Frank Ginny

Re: ARS6.3 and Oracle 10g migration

2008-05-27 Thread Walters, Mark
Manish.

ARS 6.3 requires the Oracle 9i client. If you are using a 10g database
you need to configure the 9i client to with details of the 10g database
(tnsnames.ora file) and then configure ARS to use the 9i client and
connect as though the database was remote (Oracle-Two-Task: in ar.conf).

Subject: ARS6.3 and Oracle 10g migration

**

Hello Support,

We are doing 10g migration testing for our Action request system.

Currently we are on

1. ARS6.3 Patch 23

2. Oracle 9i

3. OS: HP UX 11i

and now are targeting to go to oracle 10(v10.2.3)g with same ARS and OS.

We have already migrated our oracle component to Oracle 10g (10.2.3)
keeping ARS and OS same, but could not start ARS because system is
looking for Oracle 9i libraries.

Please advice what more is needed at our end, is it requiring some ARS
Patching.

Early will be a help.

Regards

Manish
