Re: Virtual machines....

2008-08-08 Thread john rosquist
I have had ARS 6 and 7 running on vmware server 1 and esx 2.5.5 and 3.5 servers
for several years now. Also, I have had the 7.0.1 and 7.0.3 ARS, 2/2.1
CMDB applications too. The mid-tier tends to be real due to dmz issues.
My customers want the boxes that are production oriented to be real, but the
test and dev virtual environments work fine. I see little dropouts in the esx
version. The server version tends to have a much more noticeable performance
degradation, but then it is expected.
The virtual environment allow for testing of patcvhes with little actual
negative impacts -- just roll back to the previous save state.
One word of advice is don't skimp on the hardware -- Lots of RAM, very fast
disk and reasonably fast processors.  Memory is your friend!

Re: CMDB 1.1 to 2.0.1 Upgrade in Virtual Environment

2008-08-08 Thread BrLloyd
Where the DB resides will make an impact. I encountered extensive
upgrade delays (ie 24+hrs) when running the installers for a CMDB
1.0-2.01 upgrade in parallel within a desktop virtual environment
which hosted both the DB and AR services.

Perfmon confirmed it was disk IO of the SQL process which was leading
to the extended upgrade time. CMDB upgrades are understandably quite
harsh on DB system resources and was quite evident in such an
environment.

This was a development effort with an empty DB, so I have little to
share on suggested VM specs for a populated CMDB.

Re: Installing ARWebReportViewer

2008-08-08 Thread strauss
Okay, after answering questions about Crystal Reporting and mid-tier
based on my production setup, which was built last October and works
just fine, I have now rebuilt my complete web setup for development on
new Win2K3 R2 Ent servers and can share the fact that some of the same
roadblocks I hit last October still have NOT been fixed. Since it all
makes very little sense, I thought I should re-cap it here.

I am running Crystal Reports Server XI Sp4 ... NOT R2 or R3, since we
bought it with Crystal Reports Professional XI in early 2006
specifically to support ARS 7.x, and have had no reason to update it. I
install it on IIS 6.0 with .NET 2.0 so that there is no chance that it
will compete with Tomcat for the JVM.

Mid-tier 7.1.00 from no patch to patch 004 absolutely will NOT recognize
that CR XI is installed and REFUSES to install the AR Crystal Web
Application. Period. This is still an open defect from my report last
October, and has NOT been fixed. SW00273615. Even if you are trying to
upgrade a mid-tier 7.0.01 that already has the AR Crystal Web
Application installed, 7.1 will gray out the selection, and on
installation will wipe the AR Crystal Web Application out. Nice. I had
so much fun with this last October that I had blotted out the memory,
but now that I have re-lived the nightmare it is fresh again.

Mid-Tier 7.0.01 through patch 008 always locates the Crystal Report
Server XI correctly, and offers to install the AR Crystal Web
Application, and when you check the box it does install it, and it DOES
work. I just finished an install, and immediately opened the Reports
Console in my dev mid-tier 7.1.00.004 that refers to the dedicated CR XI
and mid-tier 7.0.01.008 server for reporting, and the report I selected
opened almost immediately (the first time through it actually has to
create the report directories on the CR XI server).

So the caveat I forgot when telling people how to install a
dedicated CR XI and mid-tier server recently, to support web reporting
for your production mid-tier, is that you have to stick with 7.0.01
because 7.1.00 simply does not work.

Subject: Re: Inconsistent workflow between WUT and Mid-Tier

Michael,

It may be the whole problem or it may be nothing... but...

Part of your process ("The process is as follows: When testuser5
clicks Update ticket, an active link sets the Assign_To_Group field on
the Dialog form (checks the value of Assign_To against the login_name
on the User form and returns their Group_List") indicates that every
user of the system has to have access to the 'Group List' data for all
other users of the system. (Assuming the work is done in Active
Links.) This seems like a _poor security practice_ to me. And
specifically, when you did your upgrade, did you verify that the User
form permissions, and field permissions matched the "old system"? I
would bet that changes were made to the User form so that all users
can see all other users 'Group List' data for this "feature" to work.
Maybe there is some issue with how those changes work relative to the
Mid-Tier only?

You think go on to say...
"Run If Condition: ( 'Assigned_To_Group' = "System POC" ) OR (
'Assigned_To_Group' =  "System POC Manager" ) OR ( 'Assigned_To_Group'
= "SWSX" )"

However, testing the 'Group List' data ( which is really a string
like: ";1234; 23245; 464567;", AKA: a ";" separated 'Group ID' list)
with 'Group Name' values seems like a problem to me. Maybe it worked
in some version of the User Tool, but I would not design an
application that relied on the behavior. Not to mention the "=" tests.
Should those be LIKE operators with some kind of wild card matching?
(Or are there other things that walk the 'Group ID' list and do a
translation to 'Group Name' so that other workflow can test on
separate 'Group Name' values that you did not mention?

Later you go on to say...
"
And also, how big of a role does execution order play in a web
environment? The execution orders of the whole series of active links
in this check is separated by about 20. If I'm not mistaken,
execution order doesn't have any direct correlation to amount of time
elapsed but I'm wondering if that's maybe too close?
"

Execution Order for active links should work exactly the same between
the two clients. It dictates which Active Links come first, but it is
not a "timing"(AKA: Wall clock) related feature. The Active Link will
take as long as it takes and the next Active Link should not start
until the previous one is finished. As long as the Execution Orders
are arranged so that anything that has to come "before something else"
has a lower number (>=0) then it should work as expected. If you have
workflow that has to work in a specific order, but they have the same
execution order value... then all bets are off for which Active Link
will be processed first.

Ok.. now we may be getting somewhere...

You go on to say...
"
> Aug 7, 2008 1:58:24 PM - FINE (com.remedy.log.WORKFLOW) : (Thread 16)
> com.remedy.arsys.goat.action.ActionSetFields: Error binding set-fields
> action 1 - dropping action
"

I would suggest that you export the workflow in question (in XML
format) and verify that the ARS Server value for the Set Field action
that failed is a "@" value. If it is a hard coded server name, then
the Mid-Tier will need to have that server configured in it's
configuration, or the Active Like definition will need to be updated
to point at the "current server". (Which is what the "@" marker
means.)

It is a less than used feature that Active Links from a Form on
ServerA can actually Set/Push data to a Form on ServerB. (Assuming the
user has a license on both servers that use the same 'Login Name' and
the same password.)

Maybe that is your problem?

BTW: the 'Unsupported Action Automation' and 'Unsupported Action
macro' stuff are OLE and Macro actions in your Active Links. Those do
not work on the Mid-Tier at all. And I would suggest that you hunt
down and replace any Macro actions. They are old, and poorly supported
at this point. ( I would use the word depreciated.)

Hope some of that helps.

The gotchas would depend on "what" you modify with modify all. All of
hidden fields are set depending on what you do.

I would change one record in the normal way without Modify All and
turn on logging and see "what" is being set.

Modify All Operation Disabled on Change Form on ITSM 7.02

2008-08-08 Thread Lammey, Peter A.
Ive had some of our users complain that they would like to close a mass number
of their Change Requests all at once with set Scheduled dates and with set
Actual End dates.

Many groups deal with low to no impact changes that only deal with a request
for deploying a desktop/laptop to a user or some particular users or deploying
some other hardware or software to user(s).
At times our users complete the requests in the field and perform the services
and then want to then go back in Remedy and close out the changes.

I discovered that for some reason the Modify All operation was disabled on the
CHG:Infrastructure Change form.
Its an enabled feature on other forms such as HPD:Help Desk but for some reason
it was disabled on this form.

I know I can easily re-enable this option but I was wondering if anyone else
has done so and if anyone know of any gotchas if you do this? (do the Approval
process steps start to mess up? Is there other data that is not set properly
in the Change tickets that are mass updated via Modify All?)

AR System 7.01 patch 008
Approval Server 7.01
Change Management 7.02 patch 005

Thanks

Actually I configured a full ITSM/ARS suite on various VM on one server, and
also instaled Topology, SIM and RBA on the same server but on different VM, the
only consideration that i recommend to keep in sight is that you must not use
portmapper and assign a TCP port, 'cause sometimes (in Windows) you may have
issues with connectivity

Hi All

Has anyone found the correct version of JRE to enable the Admin Tool v7.1.0
p002 to create filters to consume web services? Every JRE version I've
tried is showing 'Failed to initialize JRE and internal java module (ARERR
7017)' as soon as you try to load the web service url..

With earlier versions of the Admin tool, I could go into the registry and
change the JRE BrowserJavaVersion and get it to work (I found 1.5.0_12 to be
the best), but with the latest patch I cannot find any version that seems to
work.

AR Server, Mid Tier and Admin Tool are all at the same version 7.1.0 p002.
I've tried JRE versions 1.5, 1.5.0_06, 1.5.0_12, 1.5.0_14, 1.6, 1.6.0_03 and
1.6.0_05

I know I've posted this several times, but today is my last day on the job, so
I wanted to give everyone a chance to see it before I left in case they had any
questions.

I will still be a remedy developer, I'll just be moving to a different

email address.

We have a job posting for a remedy developer.
The candidate would be performing internal company work, as well as some
contract work.
You must be able to attain a secret security clearance. We'll take care of
that, as long as you haven't done anything that would prevent you from getting
one.

You will need to be able to develop new remedy applications from the ground up,
from beginning to end.

It's all custom development, as far as the in-house development is concerned.

Please visit http://www.lcibest.com/Showcareers.aspx?ID=1027 for details.

Re: Urgent-Regular form Save action not able to retrieve current record

2008-08-08 Thread Gary Opela (Corporate)
If you choose to write an active link, have one that runs on after modify.

The first action should be an open window, choose the form from the drop-down.
The qualification will be $Request ID$ = $LASTID$.

The second action will be a close window. This will close the existing window.

If you are on the mid-tier, and it isn't closing the windows properly, tweak
with the open window action to change the target from current window to new
window, and see if that works. I'm not sure if it will or not, but I was going
to try it if it didn't work correctly.

See Gary Opela's thread from two days ago for insight into this:

If it's ITSM, there's a user preference that will open the last record after
save.

If it's custom, you can integrate it with ITSM to get that behavior.
Alternatively, you can write an Active Link to do so for you.

Attachment $NULL$ vs Empty

2008-08-08 Thread Elinore AR
hi all, i am having an issue with attachments. in the HPD:WorkLog form
there is a field called Files where the number of attachment is
counted for that particular worklog. i am getting a count of 3
(instead of the actual number of attachments that are in that worklog)
every time my filter (from another form) runs to push attachments to
the HPD:WorkLog form. my filter simply pushes my "$Attachment x
$" (from a temp form) to the field "z2AF Work Log0x. (in HPD:WorkLog)"
is there a way to set the push statement to test the field first (for !
= $NULL$ and != " ") before actually pushing it? i thought of
individually pushing each of the attachments one by one (first push
will create the worklog, the remaining 3 push actions to push the !=
$NULL$ and != " " attachments) but i couldn't use the function $LASTID
$ (to retrieve the last inserted Request ID and use it to insert the
attachment to it) since it retrieves a system Request ID with prefix
on it (WLG..)

does someone have any better idea?

TIA.

Elinore

Thank you guys.

Re: Urgent-Regular form Save action not able to retrieve current record

2008-08-08 Thread Gayford, Matthew C.
See Gary Opela's thread from two days ago for insight into this:

If it's ITSM, there's a user preference that will open the last record after
save.

If it's custom, you can integrate it with ITSM to get that behavior.
Alternatively, you can write an Active Link to do so for you.

I am doing a save on a regular form using the save button. I wanted to keep
the current record after the save, but the form returns with blank values in
the fields. Kindly help.

Re: Inconsistent workflow between WUT and Mid-Tier

2008-08-08 Thread Carey Matthew Black

"Run If Condition: ( 'Assigned_To_Group' = "System POC" ) OR (
'Assigned_To_Group' =  "System POC Manager" ) OR ( 'Assigned_To_Group'

Crystal Report not working

2008-08-08 Thread Vyom Labs - ITSM Support
Hi All,

While firing crystal reports using AR User tool, I am facing following
issues.

In Testing Server I Imported an application, this is a deployable
application. By default some crystal reports should come in the report form
which we are using in Development Server. And we are using the default Data
Source Name (AR System ODBC Source name) in Dev server. In Dev Server these
reports are working fine. But in testing server, it is not working.

We have reattached these reports on testing server for workaround, and we
have also created new reports using the different DSN, but still problem is
not solved.

Is this issue related to DSN or ODBC Driver?

Can anyone help me??

Thanks in advance..

Not allow modify width columns

2008-08-08 Thread manu_alcala
Hi listers,

I'm having a problem with my mid-tier 7: The user can modify the
width table fields columns. Is there any way to not allow this action?
I try many combinations of options in table field like Fixed headers,
Auto fit columns but nothing happens...

In others, Is there any way to make bold all data (data, not header)
in a table field column and the rest data in the other columns
continue normal (without bold). I have tried across the CSS style but
nothing happens; only I can make bold the row selected in the table
field and others, but i no have solution to my problem...

Hepl me please,
Thank you forwards!

I don't understand what the difference between certain Change Approval

Processes is.

In Approval Process Configuration, what is the difference between "Change
