Re: IP Conflict no longer captures IP addresses?

2008-10-22 Thread Jason Miller
I experimented with ARS 7.1 no patch tonight and found that the IP address
was not logged. One nice surprise was that IP conflicts do not create an
entry in the arerror.log any more. I always found it frustrating that IP
conflict errors take up the majority of our arerror.log.

Re: Loading people into the CTM:People form - customers

2008-10-22 Thread SPrasad

Hi Mary,

My name is SPrasad and i an new to this forum. I really need some help. Now
I got a requirement from my client. The requirement is we need to send the
people data from a staging form into V7 CTM:People form. We are getting this
data into staging form from a View form. And from there I wrote Escalations
to push that data into the staging form.

After that I wrote one more Escalation on Push fields action to push data
into CTM:People from staging form. In the Escalation I have included all the
required fields. But still nothing is happenning. When I talked to BMC
Customer support they are saying we need to updated something else but they
are not telling what I need updated or Include in the Escalations.

Environment:

ARServer: 7.1.0 Patch 002
ITSM : V7

Could plese somebody help me how to populate the data in the CTM:People form
from a staging form. And any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks

Crystal Reports Question

2008-10-22 Thread Shafqat Ayaz

In a report I have written there is a requirement to show tickets by age, for
example All Open Tickets by age 1-7 days, 7-14 days,14-21 days and 21-30 days
for the first one I can use the Last7Days function, but I cannot find any
functions for the remaining 3 ages.
Does anyone know how to do this or has done something similar

Many thanks

Re: IP Conflict no longer captures IP addresses?

2008-10-22 Thread Jason Miller
We haven't tried from MT but have tried from WUT and LANDesk Process Manager
(which shows as "Unidentified Client").

Our problems was that one of our developers was using a non administrator
account to build a LPM process in the design tool on his PC and their
LANDesk server was trying to connected to Remedy to preform the automation
he was designing. Our work around is that he will use the designer from the
server but I felt like an idiot when I told him that we could confirm the IP
addresses no problem.

DataLoad Console

2008-10-22 Thread John Kelley
AR Server 7.01 patch 6

Has anyone experience Dataload Console Validate issues. (Data Management
patch 9005)

I run the convert , then import, it brings it into the staging form, but
when validating it hangs on pending.
It never validates.

Things I've tried.
Removing the entry in the DLD:ThreadMessage
Check the private thread min 2 and max 2 390627.
I renamed the installation directory for dataload and reinstalled ( 9005)
and still after rebooting, stalls in pending validation. I'm only
validating 89 records.
The install log for the Dataload installer went through without errors.

Any ideas?

Thanks
JK

Re: Patch 8 Incident Management

IIRC Patch 8 does require Patch 7. Like all patches there is a possibility
that customisations may be overwritten, patches 7 and 8 are large so the
risk is increased.

Hi All

has anyone installed or is running Patch 8 of Incident Management?

We are looking to upgrade to this patch, but have heard that this patch is
dependant on Patch 7, and Patch 7 must be installed first. Also I have been
told that most of my customizations will be over-written by these patches.
Is this correct? does someone have any info on these patches.

thanks very much

Not sure why the installer thought I was doing an upgrade. I uninstalled ARS

Re: IP Conflict no longer captures IP addresses?

2008-10-22 Thread Jason Miller
Nope, doing an override does not capture the IP either. Do your logs
capture the IP for an override? What version are you running?

I just looked through our archived logs and the last time an IP address was
captured is right before we went from 7.0 no patch to 7.0.01 patch 6 in
March. The old logs also show the IP for all of the conflict entries and
not just when there was an override.

BTW, this is Windows 2003 with MS SQL 2005.

IP Conflict no longer captures IP addresses?

2008-10-22 Thread Jason Miller
I was trying to troubleshoot an issue with a user getting an error that they
were already connected from another machine. I figured no problem I can
look at the logs and find the IP address of the already connected machine.
Our ARS 7.0.01 patch 6 server is not capturing the the IP addresses in the
aruser.log or arerror.log. I checked our 7.0 server (no patches) and it
does capture the IP addresses.

I search through 7.0.01 and 7.1 documentation but was not able to find a
references to this change. The closest thing I found was the section "IP
address change does not require new login" in the 7.0.01 Release Notes. I
am figuring since the IP address is no longer the sole factor in rejecting a
connection that the IP was removed from the logs?

Is the IP address also missing from the logs in ARS 7.1 or is there a
setting to add the IP address back to the logs?

Thanks,
Jason

Patch 8 Incident Management

2008-10-22 Thread Shafqat Ayaz
Hi All
has anyone installed or is running Patch 8 of Incident Management?
We are looking to upgrade to this patch, but have heard that this patch is
dependant on Patch 7, and Patch 7 must be installed first. Also I have been
told that most of my customizations will be over-written by these patches. Is
this correct? does someone have any info on these patches.

thanks very much

Re: RPC Question

2008-10-22 Thread Walters, Mark
No, use of the portmapper is optional. However, if you do NOT specify a port
with TCD-Specific-Port then you must use the portmapper. In this case the
portmapper will get a port assigned by the OS. If you do specify a port you MAY
also choose to use the portmapper. In this case the server registers the port
with the portmapper so that clients that do not know the port can find the
server.

If you're running multiple servers on the same system (I have test servers with
mutliple versions from 4.5.2 thru 7.5 running) I'd recommend you consider not
using the portmapper - this way you have to specify a port when connecting,
which may make it less likely you'll get connected to the wrong one by
mistake

Exporting is a big problem. I can export a single form, but if

Re: Email Engine stops sending Emails

2008-10-22 Thread Payne, George
Let's see if I can summarize what I've done to combat this.

I've created a backend form to hold the data on "Oldest Unsent Email
Message". I have an escalation that runs every half hour to set a flag
if the email service needs to be restarted.

I have a filter that runs on modifications to that form that checks that
flag, does some set fields and then fires a RUN PROCESS to STOP the
email service. Then ARMONITOR will restart it. And, USUALLY, the email
will start flowing again.

Write me back if you'd like better detail.

I would call it clueless as well as stateless; we have had plenty of
trouble with it (7.1.00.002 and 004 on Win2K3 Ent x64). If the service
crashes it can be set to restart (at the service level), but more often
than not it crashes the java and the service hangs in a state where it
cannot stop, much less restart properly. As far as connecting to the
mailbox, it will lose its connection (MAPI) to my Exchange server
whenever that service stops to run a backup, and note the error in the
AR System Email Error Logs, but since the service is still running it
just picks up the connection again on the next polling cycle. The
service has to be running, or it will not try to reconnect; there isn't
anything like the armonitor that is trying to restart the aremaild if it
dies. The problem is always when the aremaild process hangs with a java
error, usually without crashing the Windows service so that it can
detect the stop and attempt a new start.

Support has us on a debug build of 7.1.00.004 right now that behaves
strangely, but is not crashing unless I induce that by sending it one
incoming email message that has proven deadly (why that one, we don't
know - we think it has hidden characters in it or something).

No...at least one of them needs to have a configured port, but both of them
can use configured ports, and you don't NEED to have either of them register
with portmapper.

Yes
One can use pmapper on only one and the other will need to be assigned
a specific TCP port. The server install talks about this.

You can create a People Template and assign Permissions, but
unfortunately
the People Templates in ITSM do not allow you to attach roles in the
template. This will get you halfway there.

If you have a large amount of People records to create, you may use the
data
import spreadsheets where you can specify the roles as well. Use you
best
judgement because the time it takes for you to complete the spreadsheet
could be more time than just relating the roles in the tool directly.

Re: $application$ null

2008-10-22 Thread Brien Dieterle
:-) Believe me the more you read on this, the more confusing it gets. We
do use applications (associating forms to those applications, etc). There
is even a default application called "AR System Administration". Since
this application is a "deployable" application, it gets it's own header on
the Application List on the Home Page (local applications do not). However,
the clickable links below this are still Entry Points defined on the forms
within that application-- thus even these are not "application mode"
links. I'm not even sure if we want "application mode" anyway, since by
default it seems to want to cordon you off from anything not in the
application-- and with the user tool it always seems to want to make you log
in again in an entirely new instance of the User Tool.

So, I suppose I will do without $Application$. We prefix our forms with an
acroynm of the application, ie: "Helpdesk" becomes "HD: new employee form",
etc, so I more-or-less capture application information anyway.

Thanks!

Brien

Re: $application$ null

2008-10-22 Thread jham36
I think what you may need to do is to create an Application. Define
the forms in the application. Choose one of the forms as your primary
form within the application properties. Do not set an entry point on
any form. Applications should automatically appear on the Home Page
in alphabetical order as long as a user has permission to it.
I have not tested this, but according to the admin tool help file, it
should work.

Re: menus choices

2008-10-22 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Daniele,

If I am understanding you correctly then the property of the field
that you are trying to change is the 'Display' --> 'Display Type'
setting. Is that correct? If so then that property can not be changed
by a "Change Field" Action in an Active Link. You will need to use two
fields that are positioned in the same location (stacked one on top of
the other) and use two "Change Field" actions to Hide the field that
should not be displayed and to show the field that should be
displayed. You likely will also want to use an active link on
Submit/Modify/Search that would move the data from one of the two
fields into the other field. (So one of the two fields should likely
be a Display only field and the other may or may not hold data for
your application.)

I hope that helps.

Re: Postgres Plugin

2008-10-22 Thread Henry K Feusi
Slightly off topic, but if you look at the Linux Install script for
arserver 7.x, you will see "support" for MySQL that has been commented
out. No doubt someone at BMC was playing with arserver running on top of
MySQL and left some of the installer code in the production install
script.

I did mean run Remedy on enterprisesb. As I understand enterprisedb it is
a shim for postgresql that makes it look like oracle.

So if you have an oracle based app you should be able to run it on
ppstgres if you have enterprisesb. Which I think is an amazing feat.

Obviously less cost and the enterprisesb people will say better
performance too..

Thanks for your replies!
I try to explain better the problem...
I always have to display the second menu.
When the first field value is "A" the second field Display Type must
be "Drop-Down list".
In the other cases the second field Display Type must be "Edit".
I have not found the way to change only display type of a field, and
so I am implementing jason's solution...

RE menus choices

2008-10-22 Thread Claire Boura
Cordialement
Hi,

Another way is
1- to have a field with a menu attached $NULL$ (this is the value to declare
in the Menu name) declared on the form : when you display this form you see
the field without the drop down list
2- When you want to see a menu attached to the field , have an AL with a
change field and attach in "attach menu to field" the desired menu
==> the field is displayed as a character field with the dropdown list

It works fine in V6.3

Hi Daniele,

Create an AL with Change Field action. You can attach a menu when the value
selectd as "A" else donot attach a menu to the second field. You can attach
a menu by selecting option *Attach Menu to Field. *I hope your problem
solved.

Thanks,

Re: menus choices

2008-10-22 Thread Jason
You can use the Change Field action in an active link to change the menu on the
field. However, you can't add a menu to a field that doesn't already have one
attached and you can't remove a menu from a field that has a menu attached. To
work around the issue. Create 2 fields with the same display name and put them
on top of eachother. Add the menu to 1 of them. Use active links to show/hide
the correct field and change the menu. For easy reporting. You could add a
couple filters to the form to sync the data in the 2 fields.

Re: Problems calling java api from filter.

2008-10-22 Thread Sergio Tomillero
Hi all,

Thanks to everybody for having answered my message and for your comments. I
have been reviewing and I have found what I guess the root of the problem
could be.

In active link the indicated is the next:

$PROCESS$ @@:java -Dentorno=.

But if it does not run in filter, is possible that the syntax is incorrect,
and the correct could be:

java -Dentorno=.

That is to say without '$PROCESS$ @@:'. In both cases, the instruction is
assigned to a field by a Set Field action.

Due to it all is in the customer's server and I do not have directly access
to it, up to the next Monday they will not be able to modify the filter and
testing. In case it failed, I will go on testing taking into account your
advices. Anyway I will keep you informed updating with the result.

Thanks,
