Error with Mid-Tier which I do not get with the user tool as it seems that the specific character ^M is added by the end of each line of a field passed in parameter of a Run Process

2008-11-06 Thread Tournier, Pascal
Hi,

We have one issue with the mid-tier which we do not have with the user
tool. In fact we have a filter which runs on a "Submit" or "Modify"
action. This filter calls a C program on the server where the goal is to
check the format of the data in a field and that those data are not
replicated on any other entry.

So basically the value contained in this field is the parameter of the
Run process action. So just for information the command looks like :

$PROCESS$ ARRPC=390685;export ARRPC;cd $ARPROGS;./CheckNames -i "$IP
Address$" -d "$DNS Domain$" -m "$Duplicate Host Name$" -h "$Host Name
and Aliases$"

Everything works fine with the user tool but we have issue with the
mid-tier where we get one error.

The logs with the user tool like :

 1: Set Fields

ARRPC=390685;export ARRPC;cd
$ARPROGS;./CheckNames -i "145.245.32.217" -d "BAS" -m "" -h "prpigel

test1

test3"

 Exit code: 0 Value: prpigel

test1

test3

Host Name and Aliases (536870912) = prpigel

test1

test3

Where with Mid-tier I get :

 1: Set Fields

   ARRPC=390685;export ARRPC;cd $ARPROGS;./CheckNames -i
"145.245.32.217" -d "BAS" -m "" -h "prpigel^M

test1^M

test3"

Exit code: 0 Value: ERROR: The hostname
prpigel^M has an invalid syntax

The name should:

  - begin with a letter or a digit,

  - end with a letter or a digit,

  - and only contains letters, digits or hyphens (-)

As you can see, the problem with the mid-tier is that there is this
strange character (^M) added after each line when I sent the field value
in parameter...And as the C programm itself is supposed to check that
there is no duplicate entry eo stange character in ech name, he see this
^M so he created a error saying that the syntay is wrong

Please note that this error is appearing in Internet Explorer but not on
Firefox ???

I tried to do a replace just before calling the c prog but this doesn't
fix the problem

REPLACE($Host Name and Aliases$, "^M", "")

Here the log :

  0: Set Fields

Host Name and Aliases (536870912) = prpigel^M

test1^M

test3

Can someone please explain me how to get read of this ^M which creates
error on my system

Thanks

Regards

Pascal

2008-11-06 Thread Decou, Candace M
Yes, the same thing happened to me as well. I sent an email to the address
noted for problems with the site and received the following from them:

If you are trying to reach the registration page for the Solution
Partner Portal on the BMC Developer Network, the correct URL is
http://developer.bmc.com/communities/create-account.jspa

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you find great benefit
from our system.

This, of course, doesn't help me since I am already registered and can't seem
to create another account using the same email address. Go figure. If anyone
else can figure out how to get them to either respond to the real question (why
can't I get in when I am already set up with an account) or to reset something,
please let me know.

Hi,

RRR|LoginConv works even if you have Submitter-Mode-Locked. The reason is
that the records are updated using ARMergeEntry(), which is how AR Import
does it. This will leave Modified By and Date intact as well.

   ARRPC=390685;export ARRPC;cd $ARPROGS;./CheckNames -i
"145.245.32.217" -d "BAS" -m "" -h "prpigel^M
test1^M
test3"
Exit code: 0  Value: ERROR: The hostname prpigel^M has
an invalid syntax
The name should:
  - begin with a letter or a digit,
  - end with a letter or a digit,
  - and only contains letters, digits or hyphens (-)

As you can see, the problem with the mid-tier is that there is this strange
character (^M) added after each line when I sent the field value in
parameter...And as the C programm itself is supposed to check that there is no
duplicate entry eo stange character in ech name, he see this ^M so he created a
error saying that the syntay is wrong

Please note that this error is appearing in Internet Explorer but not on
Firefox ???

I tried to do a replace just before calling the c prog but this doesn't fix the
problem

REPLACE($Host Name and Aliases$,  "^M",  "")

Here the log :

  0: Set Fields
    Host Name and Aliases (536870912) = prpigel^M
test1^M
test3

Can someone please explain me how to get read of this ^M which creates error on
my system

Thanks
Regards
Pascal

So my question is, does the OK line represent Remedy saying that it's ready
to send the query off to SQL or does it represent that Remedy received the
response from SQL and to move on to the next instruction.

I'm trying to figure out why some operations are running really slow and the
dba is asking me what the OK represents.

Thanks for any help

AREA LDAP question

2008-11-06 Thread lee
Just looking over my Plugin logs and noticed that the AREA LDAP
authentication is picking up the email address for the uid instead of
the login id.

Is this normal?

eg.
 /* Thu Nov 06 2008 10:46:07.2740 */+VL
AREAVerifyLoginCallback -- user [EMAIL PROTECTED]

should it be?
 /* Thu Nov 06 2008 10:46:07.2740 */+VL
AREAVerifyLoginCallback -- user userid

This is the settings for the user search filter in the AREA LDAP form
sAMAccountName=$\USER$

I'm getting instances where users are getting a authentication service
is not responding message once in a while.
Can this be related?

List and Fast thread

2008-11-06 Thread lee
I also just noticed that I have a fast thread on RPC 390626 with 4 min
and 8 max
And there is a list thread RPC 390626 with 2 min 2max.

Is this right?
I checked my dev and it is similar except that the fast and list are
the same numbers.

Can there be a fast and list thread on the same RPC number?

for me RPC 390626 is my plugin loopback RPC # also.

Re: List and Fast thread

2008-11-06 Thread Axton
A queue is just a queue. Fast and list are just names for two built in queues:

390300 admin
390603 escalation
390620 fast
390635 list
390695 External auth server

ARServer inherently knows what types of operations to send to those two queues.

All others are private queues. 390626 is in the user defineable
range. Private queues can be used by clients to grant a non-blocking
set of worker threads exclusive of the built in queues. You configure
what uses the private queues.

AREAVerifyLoginCallback

int AREAVerifyLoginCallback(
  void *object,
  ARAccessNameType user,
  ARPasswordType password,
  ARAccessNameType networkAddr,
  ARAuthType authString,
  AREAResponseStruct **response)

"Description: The plug-in server issues this call when the AR System
server makes a request to authenticate a user. The AR System server
passes the unencrypted user name and password as parameters. To
guarantee multithread safety, you must protect any global information
or resources accessed here with appropriate mutual exclusion locks.

An AREA plug-in implementation must return a response. A NULL response
indicates a failed login attempt.

The AR System server detects the IP address of the client and sends it
to the plugin, which rejects or accepts the requests."

The real question is, where is the username of '[EMAIL PROTECTED]" coming from?
- what does the user enter as their login name when the authenticate?
- do you allow guest accounts?
  - if not, what is in your user form/login name for your account
- what are the config values for your area plugin (assuming you use
the pre-compiled area ldap plugin)?
  - User Base
  - User Search Filter

Re: AREA LDAP question

2008-11-06 Thread lee
Users are using their login id not their email address.

They are able to log in, but the plugin log shows the above.
It shows failed attempt using that email address.

Tauf,
Is it ok for this to happen?
It seems to be using up resources checking through all the LDAPs (I
have 6 configured) because it fails for each one.

Thanks

Remember that your company tier (Premier) allows you access to certain

Table refresh

2008-11-06 Thread Atul Vohra
 All:

I have a console where the table qualification is driven by a selection
field. Table has chunking set to 50 records.
Scenario:

  1. Selection Field = x gets back 500 records (i.e. 10 pages as 50 per
page).

  2. Go to page 5.

  3. Change Selection Field =y which gets back 100 records. But the table
is blank and you have to get back to page 1 manually.

It looks like table refresh (after new selection) is not bringing it back
to page 1. Verified that issues exists on 6.3 and 7.1

Is there a way when you refresh the table it goes back to page 1?

Please advise

Re: Table refresh

2008-11-06 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Instead of using the Change Field action try the Run Process action with
a start row of 1

PERFORM-ACTION-TABLE-REFRESH [ ] [
 ]
Refreshes a table. You can optionally specify a start row and a maximum
number of rows to retrieve.
If the action is for a results list, use reserved field ID 1020.
This command is valid for all types of table fields.

So if your table's database ID is 536871024 the command would be:
  PERFORM-ACTION-TABLE-REFRESH 536871024 1

seems like the remedy server coulnn't see the mac of the new machine.

Could anyone tell me what's the matter???

Security Permission for Pasword Resets

2008-11-06 Thread Danaceau, Chris
Testing Security Permissions in ITSM 7

Configured a user with Security permissions in order to reset any user
password. When I click the "Reset Password" link the user ID is locked
down to the current user. Shouldn't this behave differently for my user
with Security permissions? The stated functionality does not seem to
be achieved without the ability to search for ANY user on the User
Password Reset form.

Re: ITSM data management application

2008-11-06 Thread Schon, Stuart
Was that on Solaris? We saw the ARERR 90 - cannot connect message when
trying to verify Demo user.

I had problems installing the ITSM suite and had to call in support.
After lots of tooing and froing it was determined that the problem lay
in the versions the shared libs and rik program supplied with the
installing. Taking the /common lib from ar server and using a suitable
ld_library_path

Check out the Driver program and see if you can log on with that.

Well, as the author of the document, I posted it on the BMCDN for
convenience purposes only, not as an exclusive place for you all to get to
it or to grant BMC exclusive rights over it. If BMC has a problem with
people getting this document from some other source, they can come talk to
me. If BMC hassles any of you about it, also refer them to me. I'll take
care of it.

I'm very flattered that so many of you find this information valuable, and I
see no reason to withhold helpful information from those who need it. I
hereby give my permission for anyone to use this for their own purposes, and
to share it with whoever else might find it useful, especially since BMC
didn't provide anything like it themselves. If you make a buck on it, maybe
you could share it with me, but I'm not expecting that to happen. :)

If anyone from BMC has any issue with what I just said, you have my phone
number. I would love to talk to you about it.

Enjoy!
