SV: ARServer Plugin Server
Hi Franklin If I remember correctly, the Arpluginsvr is monitored by the armonitor (on windows anyway), I have noticed that the Armonitor process restarts any process it is monitoring as soon as it is killed. I assume that the behaviour is similar on *nix systems. I frequently restart the Java plugin server in this way, and that is also under the armonitor. with regards, Jonas Stumph Stevnsvig Remedy Developer BEC Competence Centre Phone (+45) 46 38 20 08 Mobile (+45) 61 56 20 08 jonas.stumph.stevns...@bec.dk becrem...@bec.dk -Oprindelig meddelelse- Fra: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] På vegne af Thomas J. Re: Upgrade AR System from 7.0 to 7.5
Hi everybody! Finally I could migrate from 7.1 to 7.5. Although the installer finished with errors, the only had to import the original customized system forms and the AR System Administration Console. I'd like to thank everybody for the help Regards, Miguel 2009/9/9 Miguel Suarez Gomez msuarezgo...@gmail.com Ok, thank you very much for the answer, Isabel. Now, I'm trying to do the upgrade in two steps: - First, upgrade from 6.3 to 7.1 (Succeded) - Second, upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5 I didn't try the second step yet. I hope to send you good news when I have done it!!! Regards, Miguel 2009/9/9 Ross, Isabel (Access LLP) isabel.r...@access.uk.com ** Miguel We have upgraded our training system from 6.3 to 7.5 and got there in the end! I just sent a long reply to Kathy but it bounced so I'll keep this one short in case it doesn't work either. We had a lot of different issues upgrading and were on the phone to our support partners a LOT. We are on Solaris. I'd recommend looking at the specific error messages and the files that are created (arsystem_install_log.txt, ARServer-RIKPostUpgrade.log etc). I had to delete our user preference and admin preference forms before it would install cleanly. If you use archiving, there is a known error and a workaround to manually amend the column archiveFromForm in the table schema_archive. I had to manually amend the behavior and permission columns in FILTER_NOTIFY, changing the value from 0 to NULL before the upgrade and changing it back afterwards. The fact is that this kind of migration is supported by the installer (confirmed in the install guide). Do you know any known issues or any tips about it? Regards, Miguel 2009/9/8 strauss stra...@unt.edu ** Make darn sure that you have planned for recovery (back up db before each step, and make copies of all file directories before beginning), and have tested recovery procedures (restore db from backup, and deleting or renaming file folders for applications left behind by any failed install) for each step of the upgrade, ESPECIALLY for the AtriumCore installer which I have only seen succeed once in our environment with the minimum number of features. Some of the app installers had to be run a second time to clear all errors; not all of them will run more than once against the same file structure. I am waiting for the 7.5.00.003 patches to come out before I try any of this again. Known problems with AIE, if you have it installed, are that it must be patched to at least 7.1.00.004 before the upgrade, and if it fails it will delete not only the instance that you are upgrading but any other instances that are installed on the same server in the default directory. I don’t know what the prerequisites are if you are coming in from 7.0 instead of 7.1, but I would expect there to be some. If you have customized ANY forms or workflow, rehearse and script the restoration of those customizations as it is a good bet that the various 7.5 upgrade installers will overwrite them. Some, like searching for customers in ITSM 7.0, have been _*extensively*_ rewritten and that will break any customizations that you have made to the module. If you are just using ARS, not ITSM, the password management code changed a lot from 7.0 to 7.1 and again to 7.5. Suggestion: if you have any flashboards that are actively storing History, edit them to have a current start date and an expiration period, and still watch out for an explosion of data in the FB:History table. After upgrading from 7.1 to 7.5, and at the end of one month, our FB:History form suddenly gained 41 million records in two days. My last testing was in July with all patch 002 distributions on Windows x64 platforms, so your experience will be different but some of the pitfalls will be the same. ARERR 298 Too Many Filter since upgrade to 7.1
We upgraded to 7.1 Patch 7 (Windows/Oracle) from 7.0.1 over the weekend. Since then we are seeing issues a large number of Too many filters processed during this operation (ARERR 298) errors. Most are associated with escalations but we are also seeing it in when individuals are updating records in our home grown system. Very seldom did we see this issue when on 7.0.1. Yesterday I updated the Maximum Filters for an Operation to 2. I just bumped it to 4. Any ideas of what parameters to change to or reasonable values is greatly appreciated. Dave, It may or may not be the case with you but, We faced the same error when we were using the qualification TR.Status != DB.Status instead of Status != DB.Status. We got rid of this error when i corrected the qualification. Well it depends on what the problem is. A lot of the times it does fix it though. Most of the time I have received that it seemed like the arplugin server was running high for some reason and stopping the process and letting it restart fixed the issue. Just a guess, but double check all arschema entries for the 21 and here goes the standard question ... You did commit the changes when you updated arschema directly didn't you? Background: everytime we create a new field in this form, the database id is being set to a core field (e.g. 21) We tried the following approaches: 1. Manually set the database id of the field to 702xx before saving. Result: database id still set to core field id after saving. 2. Set the nextFieldId in arschema to 702xx directly in the database. Result: database id still set to core field id after saving. after checking the nextFieldId in arschema, it has been reverted back to core field id. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this and why the nextFieldId is not being followed and being modified back to core field? Thanks! Re: ARERR 298 Too Many Filter since upgrade to 7.1
Peter, Thanks. Support just got back to me an noted that the default is 10,000 but that most applications need 200,000 to 660,000. From the Configuring documentation Defines the number of filters that can be performed in an operation. The default and recommended number is 1. Increase this number at your own risk only if you reach a limit in your system and you have verified that your workflow is valid. They also noted trying to increase the Filter Stack Size to a minimum of 200,000. If the they are referring to Maximum Stack of Filters, then 200,000 is not a valid number. 100,000 is the maximum. Also the Configuration documentation gives a similar warning as Maximum Filters for an Operation. ARS/ITSM 7.5 on Solaris/Intel box? On Sun's Virtual Box for Intel?
Hi folks, I need to create a ARS 7.5/ITSM setup to play with. Preferably on Solaris. I have no Sun box readily available. I'm thinking of either using a dedicated Intel box with Solaris, or just use Sun's Virtual box on my existing Windows PC. (http://dlc.sun.com/virtualbox/vboxdownload.html) Anybody done either? ARS 7.5 compatibility matrix has bad news: Solaris running on x86 or x64 processors is not supported. But, is not the same as saying it will notwork, so I want to take my chances, unless somebody tells me...forget it. I'm not sure if code like ARS' written for Solaris is hardware dependent. Is it? What happened to abstraction? Searches I tried on arslist turned up nothing, so I have a feeling either I am wasting my time with this idea, or my search skills are not as good as i think they are. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor:rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: ARS/ITSM 7.5 on Solaris/Intel box? On Sun's Virtual Box for Intel?
There's a big difference between Solaris running on Sun processors and Solaris running on Intel processors. It's kind of like the difference between PCs and the old Macintoshes (before they switched to using Intel processors). Basically, it's an entirely different hardware platform, and the binaries are compiled for the specific hardware platform they are intended to run on. Abstraction has nothing to do with it. Basically, if the AR server was compiled for Sun processors, it simply will not run on Intel processors. Correct, you would need ARS for Solaris X86 Server. not ARS for Solaris for Sunos.. Which is what is currently availible. ARSystem 7.5p2, Linux/oracle install error
Good Morning, listers! I am building a small Demo Remedy server box on Red Hat Linux with a local Oracle-xe (that's the free, limited use, Oracle 10.2.0.1) on x86_64bit. OS install - OK: Linux 2.6.18-128.7.1.e15 Oracle install: OK, I think: Installer script completes and database starts, the web console (apex) displays and appears to function normally, login as SYSTEM via apex is OK, login as SYSTEM via SQLPLUS is OK ARSystem 7.5 patch 002 ARSuiteKit installer starts, runs through everything up to the Database DBA information validation warning, which reads Warning! Oracle client libraries do not have the appropriate privileges or 64 bit libraries or Oracle Connection Identifier is mistyped and an unknown error occurred. Set the appropriate privileges and retry the installation (and a pointer to the compatibility matrix) Sort of a catch-all error message, but in the install log there's a clue as to which of these three it might be. Re: ARSystem 7.5p2, Linux/oracle install error
In my experience this error may not have _anything_ to do with permissions. It's still a catch-all error. Things to verify: 1) Is ORACLE_HOME set to the correct value in the shell you're running the installer in? 2) Is $ORACLE_HOME/lib included in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable? 3) Is $ORACLE_HOME/bin included in your PATH variable? Next, you'll have to make sure that you have a tnsnames.ora file configured for your database that Remedy can use to be able to connect to it. It seems I may have had to look at a couple other things when I was seeing this error (I can't recall any more), but at no time did it have anything to do with permissions... Re: ARS/ITSM 7.5 on Solaris/Intel box? On Sun's Virtual Box for Intel?
However, if you want to Lyle, Ok, may be I was being too optimistic. However, if you want to use PC/Mac analogy, you should talk about Windows on Intel vs Windows on PowerPC, if such a thing ever existed. I know people ran windows stuff on Mac/PowerPC using emulation software, but that's not the same as using Windows on PowerPC, which would be the right analogy. OS at the core is an abstraction over the hardware, and is made up of APIs that shield or prevent the programmer from dealing with intimate details of the hardware. Or so I think. Most programs/programmers don't worry about how many registers of what kind, op code, what machine langauge, what BUS, what file system etc is underneath. When Sun ports Solaris to Intel, aren't they the ones that would make sure that machine code in executables somehow run ok on Intel boxes, through whatever means necessary? Or, I guess BMC is supposed to merely recompile everyting on Solaris/windows to get machine code for Itenl, and that's what's lacking. When the compatibility matrix says not supported, it's misleading to me, as that term is often used to indicate that the only thing lacking is a thorough official testing. If it said doesn't work, I wouldn't be typing this. AW: ARERR 298 Too Many Filter since upgrade to 7.1
David, we noticed the same problem after upgrading to 7.1(from 6.3). I did some investigations and found out that before 7.1 only filters were counted if the at least one action of the filter was executed. In 7.1 every filter is counted regardless if an action is executed or not. We multiplied the Maximum filters for an Operation by 10 and everything is fine now. You're right - the analogy isn't perfect. The point was really just that the hardware platform is different and the binaries must be compiled for the platform they're running on. Maybe Linux running on Intel vs. Linux running on PowerPC would have been better. You are correct that the OS APIs provide a layer of abstraction _for the programmer_, but the programmer then compiles the abstracted program for a specific hardware architecture which is specific to the type of CPU the program is intended to run on. That's the case here. Agreed on the compatibility matrix. In this case, I just know that the two hardware platforms are not compatible, and can infer from that that the Sun hardware version of AR server will not be able to run on the Intel version of Solaris. Re: ARS/ITSM 7.5 on Solaris/Intel box? On Sun's Virtual Box for Intel?
To the best of my knowledge, the AR System executables created for Sun SPARC architecture will not work properly on a Solaris x86 nor Solaris x64 box. When we spoke with Sun Microsystems representatives on this topic a couple of years ago, that is what they stated to BMC - i.e. that complex binaries compiled on Solaris SPARC would need to be recompiled on Solaris x86 or x64 to operate correctly on the Solaris x86/x64 architecture. -David J. Web-based memory issue
Hi listers... One of our Remedy instances is running on IM 7.03 with MT 7.1 patch 5. She is running a large Incident search that returns ~100,000 records (1 month worth of issues in our case) which she then wants to run an AR report off of. The search fails with an Exception error but works when the query is split into 1-week chunks. I get the same results when I do it on my machine. Two weeks worth of Incidents is about 53,000 of them and that uses up 973 MB of local RAM on my machine in IE 6. I get an out of memory error when I try to retrieve more which is slightly different than her machine but I can't guarantee our machines are the same configuration. For all appearances this is just a local workstation memory issue and I can't think of any way to address that other than adding memory to her machine. But just to be thorough I thought I'd ask if anyone else ran into this and if there was any sort of tuning they thought of to fix it. Re: Web-based memory issue
If you have access to the Windows User Tool (WUT) it will use less memory when processing queries like that (although, 100,000 records is still a lot for it, especially if you're pulling back Incidents). The question I have, though is where you're actually running out of memory. It's possible that your AR server or Mid Tier could be running out of memory trying to process such a large query. If that's the case, adding memory to your machine or hers will not help any. Given the large number of records, if you can work with it, it's probably a good idea to break it up into smaller queries like 1 week chunks like you tried. That's less likely to cause issues with the server or Mid Tier as well. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor:rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor:rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Drop-down field with append feature
How can we create a drop-down field that allows multiple selection? I have created a character field and attached it to a menu with append item selected. However the customer wants to disable edit feature on this character field. Any suggestion?
