Re: RKM 7.5

2009-11-16 Thread Alan Blake
I too have seen issues with installing 7.5 but a manual import of the def
files (or re-running the install) and upgrading hummingbird went okay for me.
I think it is wise to move to patch1 - there are many issues resolved in it.
Support can also get you a hotfix above patch1.

   Hi Patrick,

I have now solved this with some excellent help form a BMC Support person in
India. We un-installed RKM 7.5 patch 1and installed RKM 7.5 instead. It worked
fine with no problems at all. I doubt if I will move to patch 1 though!

As I see BMC support criticised at times in ARlist, I would like to take this
opportunity to thank them on their excellent response to my issue, which
included a webex session on my server and 90 mins of the individuals time.

IF you have the older version previous 7.1, you have alot of deleting users,

Hi all,

Has anybody successfully installed RKM 7.5? I am trying to on a MS 2003 web

1. Install of integration with ITSM failed when it attempted to load the RKM
def file and supposedly got an error from it.

2. Tomcat fails on startup seemingly trying to connect to a database using a
login of RKMAdmin.

I resolved 1. By importing all the def files manually with no problems. BMC
have confirmed that having done this my install should be ok.

2 is not resolved. Why is it trying to connect to a database when at no time
during the install did it ask for any details about a database?

Any observations\suggestions would be appreciated.

If you look at the CI's that you are stating are automatically getting

We have discovery 1.6, AR System 7.5. We noticed that the data

What would cause this?

In answer to your question LJ, not sure how long you've been attending.
But this conference was very much like those of the 90's.  Everyone there
was a Remedy person.  Everyone had the same interests and more than
willingly to share their experiences.  I hope we do keep this format.

I really like the tutorials at the beginning of the day.  Way back I would
take the tutorials before the actual conference started and sometimes by
Thursday your mind was in a major meltdown.  I thought the pace was just
right this year.  I also thought there was more time to chat among ourselves
which is of great value too.  The variety of sessions was good and the ones
I attended for the most part were technically orientated.

I always came home with ideas, and this year was no different.  And it's
nice to get that shot of excitement.  To want to try new things that you can
  share next year.

I have to say, I was pleasantly pleased with the organization of the
event.  From my view everything went very smooth, I'm sure at times the
organizers were scrambling, but it didn't show.

I'm ready to sign up for next year's WWRUG !!  See you there,

  Susan

Re: Server Information Plugin not working

2009-11-16 Thread LJ Longwing
WellI just 'fixed' the problemof sorts. I opened the form 'AR
System Administration: Server Information' in my Admin tool and found an FTS
tab...and I found two fields that corresponded to the values that were
erroring out below. If I change them to a different value, I don't get the
error in the log and my console does work. I don't have an FTS tab because
I don't have FTS installedso I don't cane what's shown in that
fieldit's just kinda weird that the plugin server is thowing that error.

2009-11-16 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
I don't have 7.5 but when I patched my server (7.1P2 -- 7.1P6) the patch
overwrote my armonitor.cfg file and, as Tommy stated, I was missing some
lines...
Also, I have 3 plug-in servers running. I patched the main server, then had to
copy the updated ARPlugin.exe file to the other two servers.

Re: Oracle RAC failover

2009-11-16 Thread Lyle Taylor
Yes, we have three servers running in a server group - one admin server and two
user-facing servers. We have ARS 7.1 p5 on Windows Server 2003 with half of
ITSM 7.0.3 p6. Oracle is running on Linux (not sure which version, but may be
a version of Suse - I can find out if it makes a difference). We use LDAP
instead of TNSNAMES, but this is (the edited - formatting added, names and
ports changed) the output of tnsping:

C:\Users\lyletaylortnsping remedypr1

TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production on 16-NOV-2

Used parameter files:
C:\ORACLE\10GCLIENT\network\admin\sqlnet.ora

Used LDAP adapter to resolve the alias
Attempting to contact
  (DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= server1)(PORT=port))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= server2)(PORT= port))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= server3)(PORT= port))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= server4)(PORT= port))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=service)))
OK (0 msec)

My understanding is that two of the servers are there as standby hosts in case
the other two go down (that is, only two of the four are currently active).
We've failed over between the two that are actively up when we've had to
restart the databases due to patching, certain config changes, etc. In those
cases, they shutdown one, make the change, bring it up, and then do the same on
the other, pushing us back and forth between them.

I'm not sure about how we compare to what's listed under FAILOVER_MODE in your
entry. Perhaps we're using Oracle client defaults; I don't know what those
would be, however.

We're using AR Server 7.1 p6 with Oracle in a RAC, and as far as I know, we've
never had any issues with it, and we have failed over from one server to

but it has never crashed on us or shut itself down. I'm not sure what might be
different in our environment, but I would be willing to help look into things

Defined Search

2009-11-16 Thread Atul Vohra
Hi All,

Our remedy application is used by different clients and we have a requirement
to create a tool that would create the defined searches without them actually
doing it in the form through the admin tool.

I am trying to look for the best approach to create a small app to help the
client admin create these searches and also if they import new remedy def files
from us they could use this tool to recreate the searches (make sense)

Is there remedy api call that could set this - I saw the information is saved
as a display property?
Can AR System Search Preference form be used in any way?
Directly updating the DB?

Need some guidance - not sure if I am totally off base...

Thanks

User unable to save preferences in a Table Field (Mid Tier)

2009-11-16 Thread Richard Nylander
Hello,

The problem I have is that user is unable to save preferences in a Table
Filed in their browser.

The form has three views, all used with Mid Tier, and in two of the views
the user is able to save preferences such as column width and column order.
But in the third view even if the user uses save preferences, each time they
log in the table is set to default.

I can even see the changes the user does in the form AR System User
Preferences, but when they open the form the preferences are not read. But
their changes are saved and kept in the AR System User Preferences form.

Anyone have idea why this is happening?

Thanks
