I've not thought too deeply about this but could you use an Active Link
firing on after submit to trigger a filter with an execution option of
'Service' to run the process?

If you push to some other form and use that as a trigger for your API then
you can get it to be after the commit.

We generally use Filter APIs during set fields operations that would be
Phase 1.

But we have a feature where we want call the Filter API that would run after
the ticket is committed to the DB.

Any ideas?

Re: Issue with DB error, Invalid object name 'ImageManagement.dbo.sysobjects'

2011-05-06 Thread Terje Moglestue
 Larrey,
You got some ARS workflow pointing to a DB called
ImageManagement.dbo.sysobjects. It might be a view form?
Turn on API, SQL and filter logging. With the logging turned on - restart ar
server. You should then find a reference to the ARS object that tries to access
the database ImageManagement.
You could also use ARInside. It should generate a reference to the AR Object
accessing the database.

Hello everyone, hope your day is going better than my week!

I found issues with several path statements in the environment variables and
within the ar.cfg file. I have fixed these issues and now after rebooting the
server I get a clean startup, no errors in the log files; with the exception of
1; show below.
I'm not sure what it's trying to tell me and I'm wondering if I still have
something pointing were it shouldn't be. What is the
ImageManagement.dbo.sysobjects?  I have limited understanding of SQL;
learning using the OJT method.

Parse from end of line

2011-05-06 Thread Brittain, Mark
Hi All TGIF,

I have a custom form used for incident management with some records created
through a process where an email is sent to an external server, parse into xml
and sent through the mid-tier to create the incident. The subject line and body
of the email is placed into the incident description field. What I would like
to do is parse out the original subject line and place it in a Short
Description field. Challenge is I can't figure out how to identify the end of
line.

The long term solution would be to modify the email parsing, and the mid-tier
web services mapping but for now I need to take this route. Also the short
description field is only 75 characters long so I have to not only get the
subject line but be able to handle it when there are more than 75 characters.
Finally I don't want to just get the first 75 because that is usually an ugly
truncate.

Thanks

When I ran into it it was on 7.6.03 across the board - and the window cleared
itself with very little stuff in the buffer - like maybe 50 lines of logging.

I was checking some workflow at the time that happened on a button click.  I
had closed the window.  I clicked the button, saw the window open, do a few
lines of code, and then when the dialog popped that was wired to the button
open window action it cleared.

I thought perhaps it was related to me closing the window so I did it again
from scratch without ever closing the logging window and it had the same result.

Hi, list. It's been a while.
I have an open ticket with BMC on this, but was wondering if anyone else had
seen (or found a workaround) for this issue

ARS 7.6.4, Mid Tier, IE8 -- when I do client-side logging through the Mid Tier,
it sometimes* clears the contents of the log window, trashing the previous
contents of the log. This makes troubleshooting client-side workflow almost
impossible. In other words, on a complex action, you see
scroll-scroll-scroll-scroll - WIPE - scroll. And after what was obviously a ton
of workflow, there are a couple of dozen lines in your logging window.

*usually on window open, but not neccessarily - it also seems to happen when an
open window calls a Remedy form in a frame, like the Landing Console.

Help?

Re: Hidden Fields Causing A Very Large Web Page

2011-05-06 Thread Mueller, Doug
Jason is correct.

You do not need to have fields in the view to use them in workflow.

AND, you will get better performance and scale if you take any field that you
never need to have visible
out of the view. This makes your definition smaller (you don't need the
display properties for something
you never display). This makes your web page smaller and more efficient. This
makes less data have to
flow over the wire. In all ways, it is a win.

Now, as Jason also points out, due to some oddities of what you can interact
with, if you have an
attachment field that you want to interact with and it is never visible, you
may need to leave that on the
form as a hidden field because you do need some of the constructs related to
the field display around
to work with them (even though not visible). There may also be an issue with
table fields if you are going
to load and walk (why else would you ever load it in the first place) a table
that is not visible. This is not
that common, but it can occur. You may have to have the table field as a
hidden field.

But, other than these cases (not that common), you can remove all fields that
never display from the view
and all workflow will work just fine and your application will be faster and
more efficient.

NOTE: even the table field case... I would strongly suggest that if you have a
hidden table field that you are
getting data to do some kind of a table walk to do some calculation, that you
consider moving that to a
service call so that you make a service call to the server, have filters load
the table, walk it, and calculate,
and then return the answer. This is less traffic on the wire (all the table
data) and does everything in one
round trip (vs. several) and scales better and allows you to remove the table
from the view for sure making
your UI lighter and faster. Something to think about.

I hope this is helpful,

Doug Mueller

Good afternoon everyone!

Our main default help desk form has quite a few hidden fields on it, off to the

adding hidden tabs to the middle of the form and putting the hidden fields on
those tabs, is there a trick to making sure that the web page is only as wide

How about if I remove the fields from the view? But don't I need the hidden

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Hidden Fields Causing A Very Large Web Page

2011-05-06 Thread Drew Shuller

It certainly is helpful Doug, thank you. I have at least one server-side
table for that form. I'll try to remove all the fields from the view.

Resizing as Andrew suggests is not working - I still have a lot of space
below and to the right of my form.

Jason is correct.

You do not need to have fields in the view to use them in workflow.

AND, you will get better performance and scale if you take any field that
you never need to have visible

out of the view. This makes your definition smaller (you don't need the
display properties for something

you never display). This makes your web page smaller and more efficient.
This makes less data have to

flow over the wire.

There may also be an issue
with table fields if you are going

to load and walk (why else would you ever load it in the first place) a
table that is not visible. This is not

that common, but it can occur. You may have to have the table field as a
hidden field.

But, other than these cases (not that common), you can remove all fields
that never display from the view

and all workflow will work just fine and your application will be faster and
more efficient.

NOTE: even the table field case... I would strongly suggest that if you
have a hidden table field that you are

getting data to do some kind of a table walk to do some calculation, that
you consider moving that to a

service call so that you make a service call to the server, have filters
load the table, walk it, and calculate,

and then return the answer. This is less traffic on the wire (all the table
data) and does everything in one

round trip (vs. several) and scales better and allows you to remove the
table from the view for sure making

your UI lighter and faster. Something to think about.

I hope this is helpful,

Doug Mueller

have occasionally had issues with Attachment pools/field where they had to
be in the the view. Aside from that we typically do not put hidden fields
in our main view.

Good afternoon everyone!

Our main default help desk form has quite a few hidden fields on it, off to
the right side and below. The Mid-Tier renders this form very wide and long,
as if the fields are there, but the fields of course are not displayed.
Aside from adding hidden tabs to the middle of the form and putting the
hidden fields on those tabs, is there a trick to making sure that the web
page is only as wide as the visible fields?

How about if I remove the fields from the view? But don't I need the hidden
fields for whatever workflow is running when the users have that form open?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Consuming Web Service not WSDL

2011-05-06 Thread Chintan Shah
Hi David,

What kind of web-service API does FootPrint expose? RESTful API?
Usually, if its not WSDL, what I have done in the past is use
Filter--Set Fields-- $PROCESS$ and invoke an external script (by passing
various parameters from Remedy), script will consume web-service and return
data back to Remedy(if any..e.g. Success or failure).

HTH.

Thnx
Chintan.
