Thanks all, last night we were able to write a filter plug-in for the same. And
it works fine..
Just a bit impatience on my side to post the issue too soon.

Hi,

I am in search of something I have not done before. We are trying to implement
sms functionality for one of our customer. In short the requirement is such
that we have a sms gateway URL which has destination number, and 2 text fields
embedded into the URL.

Once when we hit the URL with this info we get a 3 digit code in response which
tell us about the status of the sms i.e. Delivered, failed, pending etc. This
code is what the customer needs to record for auditing purpose.

I am not sure how can we achieve this via Remedy workflow. Can any one help me
with this.

Thanks,

You have the right idea

A form with a table where you can select multiple employees and a second table
where you can select multiple roles.

On button click call guide 1 that walks the employee table for selected rows.
In guide 1 an Active Link calls guide 2 that walks the selected roles.
In guide 2 an Active Link that does the push of employee.ID role.ID to table 3

The next version of AR System will not be supporting IE6 or IE7 due to the

To echo the others, I've noticed strange happenings and anomalies when
users are on IE7, not even 6. Even if you by some miracle get this latency
issue resolved, you are sure to run into plenty more issues with pages
rendering properly, and javascript errors. Like the others said, it's time
to let go of IE6. Good luck.

Menu Style issue on AST:Form

2012-05-09 Thread Danaceau, Chris
I created several fields with menus for the Application Class. Fields
were created in Class manager, with menu style of Overwrite. When I
added them to my AST:Application form the menu style was append. I
tried to change it back to Overwrite in the AST form, but the change
does not take. Whenever I save the form the menu style goes back to
append.

Has anyone else experienced this?

6.03.00 Compatibility Matrix Needed

2012-05-09 Thread John Baker
I do find such statements interesting in a world where every document ends up
in the Google cache, EULA or no EULA.

Indeed, JSS gets a lot of good publicity/business from non-BMC/HP users with
our online documentation that's been indexed and is of use to others studying
SSO technologies.

.NET API

2012-05-09 Thread Jon Chau
Hello Everyone,

I understand that the .NET API for Remedy is not officially supported by
BMC, and that Appajee (the original developer) has left BMC. I believe he
actually left in 2010, came back at some point, but left again in 2011
(this is only speculation - my apologies).

https://communities.bmc.com/communities/docs/DOC-6013 has some posts from
him stating that there is no 64 bit version of the API.

We ran into an issue with not having a 64 bit version of the API and our
organization was actually trying to work with Appajee to have him compile
us a 64 bit version in the fall of 2011. However, our dialogue stopped
short and we never received a response from him after he initially agreed
upon compiling it for us.

I'm sure there are still a bunch of you using the .NET API. Do you and
your organizations have plans to continue with it? Our primary development
platform here is .NET. We need to decide if we should be moving away from
these due to the lack of support, and are considering web services.

I was hoping that David Easter could chime in (although I know he has said
in the past that it is not supported).

Thanks,
Jon

Complex permission group check

2012-05-09 Thread Jose Huerta
Hi listers,

I have a problem that I've solved, but I think that there is an easier (and
more elegant) solution that the one I developed. Here's my case:

I have two forms:

FORM:A
FORM:B

Both forms are related, so 1 request in FORM:A is related to many requests
in FORM:B. I have a table in FORM:A listing the related requests in FORM:B.

The permissions scheme is very complex and I have a field with ID 60100 and
a dynamic group with the same ID. A super-user can create requests in
FORM:A and the field 60100 is populated with the list of groups that have
the write access granted. Similary, I have field with ID 60200 that is
related to the read access to the request. FROM:B works in the same way.

The requisition is the next: Imagine a user John_Doe that has write access
to one request in FORM:A and isn't a super-user. He must be able to create
request in FORM:B related to the request in FORM:A that is related.

I normally copy fields 60100 and 60200 from FORM:A to FORM:B, to propagate
the permissions. But at submit, these dynamic groups doesn't exist yet, so
I get an access error. I can bypass it allowing any user to submit, but any
user will be able to create requests in FORM:B, and I don't want that. So I
created a filter that checks that the user belongs to a group listed in
field 60100. If field 60100 has only one group is very easy to do, but if
60100 can hold a set of groups, then I need to create a guide, separate all
groups present in field 60100 and check each one separately.

I've done it and it works, but I'm convinced that there must be an easier
way to do it. Any idea?

Re: .NET API

2012-05-09 Thread Easter, David
Official BMC recommendation would be to use web services wherever possible -
and if not possible, to use the Java API to be fully supported.

Web services will provide an abstraction layer between applications, allowing
the applications to revision without affecting the provided service. Most
components in AR System are now Java and utilize the Java API (or Java Plug-in
Server), so if choosing a supported API, that API should be Java.

https://communities.bmc.com/communities/docs/DOC-6013 has some posts from him
stating that there is no 64 bit version of the API.

We ran into an issue with not having a 64 bit version of the API and our
organization was actually trying to work with Appajee to have him compile us a
64 bit version in the fall of 2011. However, our dialogue stopped short and we
never received a response from him after he initially agreed upon compiling it
for us.

I'm sure there are still a bunch of you using the .NET API. Do you and your
organizations have plans to continue with it? Our primary development platform
here is .NET. We need to decide if we should be moving away from these due to
the lack of support, and are considering web services.

I was hoping that David Easter could chime in (although I know he has said in
the past that it is not supported).

Thanks,
Jon

Tasks - Assign NULL group to Change Coordinator group

2012-05-09 Thread Jason Miller
Hello everybody,

Due to some Change license quantity limitations we plan on using Tasks a
lot. We (IT) are having a little heartburn with Task Templates not being
able to dynamically route to a Support Group. Our IT department would like
to use shared templates for things like application upgrade, create new
interface, etc. That way teams are using consistent processes. The
problem is Tasks do not dynamically assign to a Support Group when created
from a Change Template that includes Tasks.

By process Standard changes (in theory a large percentage of our changes)
created using a CHG Template do not need approval/review before works
begins and should be able to be worked almost right away by a Task User.
For Standard changes a CM Submitter/Viewer + Task User should be able to
submit the CHG using a CHG Template and start working Tasks without the CHG
Coordinator/Manager's involvement. These people with only Change
Submitter/Viewer + Task User will not see Tasks assigned to their group in
the Overview Console until each Task is opened and assigned to their
Support Group (obviously). They can only modify a Task opened from the
Overview Console (i.e. it is assigned to their group); if they access the
Task from the CHG the fields on the Task are Read Only because they lack
Change User permissions (another post to follow to see if this is as
designed).

As a workaround the idea is to create shared templates (CHG/TSK) that
assigns to each Support Group. For example application upgrade would be
multiplied by our 45 Support Groups. Multiply that by the number of
TSK/TSKGRP templates in that shared CHG template and we are looking at
quite a maintenance chore (if not nightmare).

My thought is the time and effort might be better spent developing a
customization that will assign the Tasks to the CHG Coordinator Support
Group upon Task submission (or soon after due to timing issues) if the TSK
Assignee Group is NULL. This way there is truly only one copy of the
shared CHG Template and one copy of the associated TSK/TSKGRP templates.
It also makes sure there a no unassigned Tasks.

Has anybody else been in a similar situation?

Anybody see potential issues with the customization I am proposing?

Thanks!

Re: Complex permission group check

2012-05-09 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

Maybe you can make a filter in FORM:A that pushes the record into FORM:B.
The user would then modify the FORM:A record, presumably setting a couple
of display-only-fields that will be sent on to FORM:B.

A Push-Fields in a filter has Admin-permissions.

 Hi listers,

I have a problem that I've solved, but I think that there is an easier
 (and
more elegant) solution that the one I developed. Here's my case:

 I have two forms:

 FORM:A
 FORM:B

Both forms are related, so 1 request in FORM:A is related to many requests
in FORM:B. I have a table in FORM:A listing the related requests in
 FORM:B.

The permissions scheme is very complex and I have a field with ID 60100
 and
a dynamic group with the same ID.

I can bypass it allowing any user to submit, but
 any
user will be able to create requests in FORM:B, and I don't want that. So
 I
created a filter that checks that the user belongs to a group listed in
field 60100. If field 60100 has only one group is very easy to do, but if
60100 can hold a set of groups, then I need to create a guide, separate
 all
groups present in field 60100 and check each one separately.

I've done it and it works, but I'm convinced that there must be an easier
way to do it. Any idea?
