Re: catch the email before it is deleted

2012-07-16 Thread Remedy Maniac
I am a bit tight with time ... i.e. I need to hurry up for a solution
... I can't seem to get the email that is being deleted on the fly on error
I found another way of doing with the Message-Id of the email I'll build
a workflow to pull out a copy of that email from disk and do something
with it
Thought if in the meantime, somebody would tell how to catch the email
before it is deleted or even to replace the delete by another action
that would be cool
maybe I have missed something but I don't really see what is deleting
the email ... i.e. it looks like it is on GUID not being generated but
... actually I haven't been further ... not sure if it is worth ...
maybe my first workaround is quicker to implement

any advice is appreciated

you'll want to take that into consideration somehow in terms of getting the message

(But I don't have an automated solution - in situations where I can, I have a

The email is actually deleted, there is no trace of it anywhere I need a

disk with the Message Id provided by the Error logs but up to now, I am not
succeeding

deleting them. The original email is an attachment on the Advanced Options

You should be able to find a form with name AR System Email Error

Messages, which is an exact replica of AR System Email Messages form, with
additional feature(button) to copy entry to AR System Email Messages form.

If you do not find it you can re import this form from the def file in the

email engine install folder.

If I understand correctly you want to catch email errors and reprocess them

as they occur without have to resend the email from end user.

We have a similar things.
We have monitors setup on Email log files and then this form AR System

Email Error Messages.

Anytime the monitor detects a new line or a new entry then we get

alerted.

Then we go to AR System Email Error Messages form and look for the error

entry, correct the data and then click the button Copy To AR System Email
Messages Form. It will create a regular entry in Email form and email engine
will pick it up in the next pooling.

Flashboards and time axis

2012-07-16 Thread Jose Huerta
Hi listers,

I have a requirement from a customer that we can't accomplish, but I'm sure
that it is possible.

I have a form with these fields, among others:
 - ActualDate: A date value, indicating to which date is related the
request.
 - Value: The value to show at the graph.
 - IdParent: Each request is related to a partent. A parent has a set of
requests for several days.
 - Dummy: A field that always holds the word: Payment.

I want to show a trend line for one parent and see the sum of requests for
each day.

So I created a variable with these characteristics:

 Expression: Value
Group By 1: ActualDate
Group By 2: Dummy
No summary or historical data.

I created a flashboard, Line, RealTime, with this variable.

I created a form with a view field holding the flashboard, and a table
filed holding the parents. Each time a parent is choosen, the view field is
update with a customQual parameter, restricting the flashboard to show only
the related requests (IdParent = )

My problem is the next:

First: I don't see the labels of the days. I mean, If I roll over a value I
can see the date, but at the graph the days names are not shown.
Second: Values are equidistant. For instance, If I have a register for
4/1/2012, another for 4/2/2012 and another for 4/10/2012, I see the three
dots separated by the same distance. The desired behavior is to show
registers from 4/1/2012 and 4/2/2012 much closer between them than from
4/10/2012.

To summarize, I want the same behavior like it appears on the SLA trends on
the SLM Manager console.

Any Idea or help?

Re: Running ARS on laptop - options

2012-07-16 Thread Dmitry Baryshnikov
Hi Tauf!

I'm running the virtualized ITSM on my laptop for more than a year now, and
I found that the bottleneck is the disk drive. So, using SSD would be the
best choice to get the maximum performance. Also, to run one instance with
full ITSM Suite, KM, SRM (mid-tier/application/database on one machine) I
found that the minimum of 8Gb RAM (6Gb dedicated to Guest OS) is required.
I use the Windows 7 64bit and VMWare Workstation 8 now. There's no freeware
version of the Workstation as far as I know, but Oracle Virtualbox (which
is free) may work for this as well. I think that if you want your Guest OS
to be Windows based, you really should pay for the Windows Server license,
but there's MS SQL Server version (called Lite or Express), which is free
with the only limitation for the database size (4Gb or something as far as
I remember). On the other hand, you could use Linux for your guest OS (with
Oracle as the DBMS), but that can be more time-consuming to install and
maintain.

Another possible issue is virtual machine mac address change after the
machine being restarted. As it changes, your ARS license stops working. You
may fix it in VMWare Workstation by editing the VM configuration file so
that VMWare doesn't assign the MAC automatically, or configuring the
Microsoft Loopback Adapter, which always has the same MAC, and issuing the
ARS license for the MAC of the loopback adapter.

Hi Tauf,

I have found that running Remedy without a virtual machine is actually a
lot lighter resource wise and more flexible. You don't need the overhead of
running 2 operating systems at once. I use the free SQL Server 2008
personal edition. On top of that I install the 7.6.4 Suite stack install.
That install only takes around 40 minutes or so. I'm running Windows 7 64

You will be surprised how easy this setup is to get going and how well it

Re: Running ARS on laptop - options

2012-07-16 Thread Nau, Michael
Hi,

there's another option: You can install on a virtual disk (vhd) and boot
your system from it. You won't be able to move the vhd to a system with
different hardware, but the performance degradation compared with a
real install is only 3% according to MS, and the original installation
on your machine remains untouched.

business decisions on how the operations of their organization should operate
or what appropriate directions they should take against specific
requests/actions submitted.

Business Analytics for BSM is a reporting tool that customers have that help to
enhance the capability of generating these types of reports. Business Analytics
allows a user to pull data from the ITSM, SRM and CMDB forms as well as any
other applications (with customization to the ITSM Universe). This session will
show users how to run, modify and create ITSM reports through the ITSM Universe
within Business Analytics.

This session is designed to train the attendees on:
- The different CMDB import methods available
- Working with Atrium Integration Engine (AIE)
- Working with Atrium Integrator (AI)

Synopsis:

An organization's Configuration Items (CIs) are generally stored in various
systems and are to be incorporated into the CMDB. These CIs can be discovered
by discovery software, exported into comma separated value files, hard-copied
files, word documents and other avenues. It is up to the CMDB Manager and AR
System Developers to figure out what is the best means to import the data from
the external resource into CMDB.

This session will cover the different integration methods that one can
consider; with the primary focus being on the Atrium Integration Engine and
Atrium Integrator.

Reconciliation Engine (RE) processing within the CMDB Application allows users
to reconcile configuration items that are discovered or entered into the CMDB
under multiple Dataset IDs (or Data Resources). The more common activities
associated with utilizing RE is the activities if Identify and Merge. You must
identify the data that matches up the multiple data source records and then
merge the information into a single record based on a weight factor.

This session will cover the step by step requirements needed to set up the
different activities involved or made available within the RE processes.

Topic:

Working with the AR System Report Console

The question is: What is under your opinion the minimum requirement of RAM
+ # Virtual cores for development, where Oracle is on a different server
and All BMC server are on the same virtual machine (I mean ARS + Mid-Tier +
AIE). The system will hold a maximum of two concurrent users. I currently
have one dev environment with 10 GB RAM and 2 cores and performs well (only
for development). But I want to minimize it in order to have more
development servers at the same time (so I can choose to connect one or
another without switching them off).

Keeping 7.6.04 mid-tier in iframe

2012-07-16 Thread Bray, Joshua
Hey, we are in the middle of testing for a mid-tier upgrade and noticed
an issue. Most of our current mid-tier pages are embedded in iframes.
For guest type pages, they work, no problem. But, pages that require a
login, they are popping the login page out of the mid-tier. This is a
problem because several of these applications have navigation in the
HTML page, not the mid-tier form. We are currently on mid-tier 7.5,
where it's working fine, and are trying to upgrade to 7.6.04 SP3, where
it's causing issues.

We have had this working fine on 6.3, 7.0, and 7.5. We need to finish
the upgrade by this weekend, or we will have to wait until next year, so
the deadline is tight.

Thanks,
Josh Bray

Intermittent Error - Can't connect to the LDAP server (LDAPERR Code 91)

2012-07-16 Thread Andrew Fremont
Hi,

Our users are getting the authentication error when log in to our server.
However, they're able to log in after retry. This issue seems random and at
25% rate.

Below is an excerpt from the plugin log, and I notice that in the section
where it fail to connect to LDAP, it's missing the part Connecting via

Please advise where to check/search for the issue.

Is it the login page that is breaking the iframe? There is javascript you
can use to enforce a web page (like the login page) to be in a frame. I'm
not sure how you would add that to Remedy itself.

Re: WWRUG12 - Conference Session Update, Educational Sessions (1 of 3)

2012-07-16 Thread arslist
These ones are part of the normal sessions Tues-Friday morning.

Friday morning being repeats of what attendees thought were the best,

So those that didn't get to them the first time have another shot at it.

There are separate ones that will be announced that will be on Monday for a
small extra fee,

Vendors that want to do various tutorials.

The rest of the week there are Sessions that fall under different
categories, I will let Phil and Lenny go into details.

Since Phil announced those I have to assume he got enough votes from the
board to approve them.

Do you have a duplicate entry in the configuration, or at any stage had a

Guillermo,
I believe you will find the Pro/Con list to be similar to just about any other
pro/con list for Windows vs Linux/Unix...

Pro:
Free
Reliable
Scalable

Con:
More complicated administration
Less 'competent' cheep resources
Etc.

This list is by no means accurate in all instances nor is it complete. The
general guidance that I have seen before, and given before is that you should
use the OS and DB that best suits your ability to support it properly, assuming
of course that it's in the support matrix :)

Re: Somebody BMC Remedy on Linux

2012-07-16 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I think that a good place to start would be to look at the past few AR System
service pack whitepapers and see how many defects in recent releases were
specific to Linux as an OS. It's not something that I've looked into, but I
have a theory that Windows receives the most QA time, and as a result has fewer
defects in the Windows version of AR System. I could be wrong but it's
something I would investigate if I were considering Linux for Remedy.

Also, what database engine you use is probably a bigger factor than anything
else, and you didn't mention that, nor whether or not you're already using
Remedy and what platform you would be migrating from. The pros and cons from a
version of Unix to Linux would be totally different from a comparison of the
pros and cons from Windows.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Re: Intermittent Error - Can't connect to the LDAP server (LDAPERR Code 91)

2012-07-16 Thread Carl Wilson
Hi,

what records are in the AREA LDAP Configuration form?

Also, do you have Authentication Chaining enabled (it appears you do from
the settings)?

It is recommended to turn this off if you have no need to use it and if you
only are using LDAP (AR static users will still authenticate normally)

Cheers

Carl

Jaya,
I agree with Matt, I've had this problem before and found the solution through
the plugin logs.  The problem was that there was stuff on the form that didn't
work properly.  I corrected by manually re-importing the Server Administration
def file from the upgrade and telling it to delete extra fields/views, this
cleaned up the form and allowed it to work properly.

We are upgrading our ARS 7.1 to ARS 7.6.04 SP2 , the installer runs fine but we
have noticed that most time the server information becomes blank. The services
come up and the host id is shown on the license console. But server information
remains empty, we have tried restarting ar server as well as ar plugin services.

But still the server information remains blank, anyone experience the same
issue.

Solaris Installer - 7.6.04

2012-07-16 Thread jaya munjal
Hi List

We are encountering a stranger behavior that while running the installer for
ARS 7.6.04 SP2. Sometimes the installer gives us an error that the database
client version is not supported and then we close the installer and re-launch
it works.

Currently we are testing the upgrade in our pre-prod environment and seen this
problem, which re-occurs frequent that installer doesn't recognize the oracle
client, has anyone face a similar issue?

OS - Solaris 9, 64 bit
Oracle Client - 11g
DB - Oracle 10g

We are using x-windows to do GUI based installation.

Thanks
jaya
