Re: ITSM install user account in Linux

2012-12-05 Thread Bhadoria, Ripu
Hi Paul,

I would suggest you to go ahead with an user ( generally known as
root) which has all the administrative permissions.

If you go ahead with any other user than you will have to make sure
that this user has 777 i.e rwx access to the following directories

1.Directory where your installer is copied on the Linux machine.

2.Directory where you install the ITSM.

3.Directory which you will use as temporary directory for Installation.

You need to set the following variables to use particular directory
as temporary location for installer

1.export IATEMPDIR=Path to the directory

2.export TMP= Path to the directory

Please verify if the user has root privileges when issuing the start/stop

Re: Using a BIRT Editor to Create or Modify Web Reports

2012-12-05 Thread Raj
Hello,

Not sure this is the right solution, but I was able to make the report created
Birt 4.2.1 work. I faced the same problem as mentioned by you. So used Birt
2.5.1 to create a similar report.

Then I compared the rptdesign files using notepad++. There were few differences
in the report files like the 4.2.1 adding additional values like the report
designer, heading etc. I just updated the version in the report created by
4.2.1 to look like it was created in 2.5.1 and uploaded.

report xmlns=http://www.eclipse.org/birt/2005/design; version=3.2.20 id=1
property name=createdByEclipse BIRT Designer Version
2.5.1.v20090903 Build lt;2.5.1.v20090922-0630/property

Ran the report from the report consoles and both the reports works just fine.
Hope this helps.

Raj

Hi,

We have installed ITSM using root user because root user have all access
permissions and there is no restriction for us from Linux Admin.

We are not facing any problem.

But You have to manually export or enter all export entry in .profile file
in linux like LD_LIBRARY_PATH,ORACLE_HOME,TWO_TASK, etc. for Installation.

To install as a non root user you have to follow some steps before
installing as suggested in BMC docs.

I'm not an OS administrator, but I would think in general a best practice would
be to install as non-root, from a security perspective. But it's true that
doing so requires a few extra steps for AR System, and I imagine also for ITSM.

Creating Multiple Tickets

2012-12-05 Thread Boylan, David
I have a custom app where I need to create multiple tickets
with essentially the same info except for a date field that I need to
calculate. Tickets could be anywhere from 1 to 12.

So, my thinking so far:

1. Display form with required fields that get set from the master ticket
with the optional numeric field that defaults to 1.
2. Button to submit after entering the requested number of tickets needed.
(AL)
3. 2 counter fields on the master form that store the requested number
and the actual sequence number. (Filters)

Anyone done anything like this before?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

What O/S are you using? Starting/Stopping the Mid-Tier is nothing more than
making sure the Web Server and Java Servlet Engine are running.

For Linux/Unix the most common are Apache and Tomcat

Apache would be {Apache Install Dir}/bin/apachetl -start
Tomcat would besudo - {ARS_USER} -c {Tomcat Install Dir}/bin/startup

Rejection of Changes and reason why

2012-12-05 Thread Michael Burton
Hi, Using 7.6.03. If a user rejects a change via Approval Central and a reason
why it was rejected is entered in to the Justification For Action field, where
would you be able to find that information on the associated change? The reason
I ask is that we have customers who login to review and then approve or reject
changes and they are typing feedback in to the Justification For Action field.
We then see the change has been rejected but are unable to find the reason why,
so have to ask the customer, which is a tad embarrasing. I would expect it to
appear in the Comments field of the Change Signature Detail form, but sadly
not. Sorry if a dumb/stuipd question. Cheers -Mike

HPD:IncidentInterface_Create

2012-12-05 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
Hello List,

We currently upgraded to 7.6.04. since then, some of our automated incident
tickets are not being created correctly. The notes field is not bringing over
all the text.

We have an EDI system that sends emails to ARS when an error occurs. the email
is parsed by the HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form. The incidents are being
created. However, the notes field does not contain all of the info being sent
via the email.

Below is parts of the email that EDI is sending. The details section contains
multiple lines with returns and extra spaces, which I thought would cause the
issue. The thing is.. this worked well in ARS7.1/ITSM7.0.03. I'm looking thru

Re: Rejection of Changes and reason why

2012-12-05 Thread Rick Cook
Michael, the comments would be stored as part of the Approval Signature
record, not the Change itself. If you go to the Approvals tab (Classic
view) and look at the Rejected approvals there, do the comments appear on
the Signature record available in that table?

 Hi,

 Using 7.6.03.

If a user rejects a change via Approval Central and a reason why it was
rejected is entered in to the Justification For Action field, where would
you be able to find that information on the associated change?

The reason I ask is that we have customers who login to review and then
approve or reject changes and they are typing feedback in to the
Justification For Action field. We then see the change has been rejected
but are unable to find the reason why, so have to ask the customer, which
 is a tad embarrasing.

I would expect it to appear in the Comments field of the Change Signature
 Detail form, but sadly not.

 Sorry if a dumb/stuipd question.

 Cheers

When you send an email template to the AR Server that contains several lines,
you will need to encase the data with [$$ $$]. I have found that having the
trailing $$] on a separate line works better.

Hello List,

We currently upgraded to 7.6.04. since then, some of our automated incident
tickets are not being created correctly. The notes field is not bringing over
all the text.

We have an EDI system that sends emails to ARS when an error occurs. the email
is parsed by the HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form. The incidents are being
created. However, the notes field does not contain all of the info being sent
via the email.

Below is parts of the email that EDI is sending. The details section contains
multiple lines with returns and extra spaces, which I thought would cause the

I've noticed that colons in the notes or any character field stops the rest
of the data to come through in the outgoing emails. Not sure if this is
the problem you are facing.

Happened in 7.5 and 7.6.04 for us in our custom environment.

Re: ITSM install user account in Linux

2012-12-05 Thread vaibhav wadekar
I find it more useful to run the install as root and later convert that
install to non-root. also one need to make sure there is sufficient temp
space otherwise, define IATEMPDIR variable before the install.

Prior starting install, it is always good to check
- whether DB is unicode or not
- whether specific characterset is installed and set for e.g.
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
- you able to connect to oracle database

Hope this helps.

Re: arsystem stop

2012-12-05 Thread vaibhav wadekar
I would first check who owns the directory and files

ls -ld /opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin/
ls -l /opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin/

This will tell you the user who owns the files and directory.

You need to stop ( in order to get the .lck file released) and then start
the ARsystem.

root user is super user and able to stop/start services no matter who owns
the above files/directory.

Hope this helps.

ITSM 7.6.03 Pending Approvals

2012-12-05 Thread remedy
Hi,
In a multi tenancy setup, I was just wondering if anyone has encountered a
problem where an individual from one Company can see records from another
Company.

In the Pending Approval list (web), there have been instances where
individuals have seen all Change Requests rather than what the table field
would normally show. A refresh of the table field normally fixes the issue
and displays the correct records.

Any info would be great.

Thanks
Les
