this year. I'm going to run it as several voting rounds with people being
eliminated, and by the final round have finalists. This year we have a
record number of nominees. Here are the rules.

 * Voting starts now and ends Sunday August 18th at 5PM EST
 * Voting is by the Individual REAL person, so redistribution lists don't
vote, your identity must be known, and those that have multiple
subscriptions still get only one vote
 * BMC Software employees on the ARSList are eligible to vote
 * All decisions of myself or the oversight panel are final (if I have to
make a controversial decision, I confer with 3 past MVP winners for their
 opinion)
 * The Award will be made on Thursday October 3rd at WWRUG13: Award
Ceremony during the WWRUG Awards keynote. [no one knows the winner(s) until

 MVP VOTING FORMAT:
Each Person voting gets to vote for their top 3 picks. 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
each position has a weight to it. At the end of 2 weeks, we will have a
runoff of the top 3 nominees where we will use the same format, which
should give us a clear winner, if a tie does occur, we will cull the 3rd
place votes and see if that gives a winner. In the unlikely event that we
still don't have a winner, then just the top 1 vote will count. If then,
we still have a tie, Daniel and I will confer with past winners to break
 the tie.

 MVP Nominees are
*Axton Grams* - Winner of the MVP in 2006, he is a steady member of the
community that provides resources both on and off list. His nomination
this year called out his knowledge of integrations and server setups as a
key factor of his helpful nature.
*Carl Wilson* - While a relative newcomer to the ARSList, Carl has been
part of the BMC Remedy community for quite a few years and since joining
the list has helped many members with a variety of problems. His
nomination this year specifically called out his knowledge on SRM and ITSM.
*Clair Sanford* - Clair is a staple of the ARSList, both asking
questions and answering other peoples questions. Her nomination this year
didn't call out any specific areas of expertise, but instead discussed her
general knowledge and willingness to help anyone.
*David Easter* - David is an ever present authority an all things
Remedy. His nomination this year discussed his in depth knowledge of
documentation, quite often with links to the official BMC pages. His posts
are always thought out and detailed in nature.
*Frederick W Grooms* - A modern day renaissance man, Fred's nomination
this year speaks to a man of many talents from workflow and upgrades to OS
issues and more. He often provides details that obviously require
investigation and work on his end before responding.
*Jason Miller* - Often the purveyor of arcane knowledge, Jason is
willing to help people both on and off list. His nomination this year
stated that Jason is so helpful in so many areas that it's hard to pinpoint
 specific areas of specialty.
*Laurent Matheo* - Laurent is new to the ARSList, but not new to Remedy.
After meeting him at last years RUG event and telling him that the ARSList
is 'where it's at', he happily joined the list and has become a regular
fixture seeming to specialize in thinking outside the box and finding
 creative solutions to everyday problems.
*Mark Brittain* - There almost isn't a day that goes by that you don't
find Mark posting a question or answering one on the ARSList. He is quite
often ready to either come up with a creative solution to your problem, or
point you to BMC Documentation on how to do it.
*Tauf Choudhury* - Tauf takes the ARSList to a whole different level by
answering his posts while on the go. Tauf regularly posts solutions to
problem in every realm, but his contribution in the SRM arena was
specifically called out in his nomination.

The BMC Vote will be run in the standard one vote per person format for a
 period of 4 weeks total.

QBE after 1 character / weirdness after 8.1 upgrade

2013-07-31 Thread Lisa Singh
Has anyone else seen this?

The customer field in the HPD:Help Desk form by default has auto
complete set Leading after 3 keystroke - same with the Site field in
CTM:Location Details. But after the 7.6.04 8.1 upgrade it's now
attempting to auto complete after 1 character, which of course brings
up a warning about exceeding the query limits on anything other than X
and Z. Every 5 or 6 site auto completes fails to retrieve anything at
all at the other extreme.

Anybody experience that? Is 1 the default value? Normally I'd just
attempt to reset it by saving an new auto complete value then going
back to 3, but as we're in UAT of the new version, and I work for a
big giant bureaucracy The Managers have decided only BMC Support can
fix it, but they're a bit flummoxed as well.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this.

Re: ARSList Award Voting Time

2013-07-31 Thread Susan Palmer
At this rate the chances are pretty poor!

It's almost embarrassing that so many people are able to post their issues
daily and receive multiple answers and they do not vote.

I don't buy the premise that they are not reading the list
entries/responses. I check them a couple of times a day, if nothing else
just to take a mental break from what I'm doing. It usually makes me feel
better to know people have a lot more issues than I do. But it also makes
me realize how intricate an ITSM Remedy system can be when using an out of
the box application. And most of all it puts me on alert to watch for
things that may occur!

My life is seemingly more simple since we have a custom system that does
much of what ITSM does. But I still like to stay in tune with what's going
on with everything else.

I think anyone that doesn't vote shouldn't be allowed to use the list.
Pretty strong feelings I know. But doesn't matter what your position is,
if you're a list user, you're a list reader. And you don't have to have
the skills to verify each response is correct or not to get a beat on the
responders. Incorrect responses get corrected by others and there's
usually a trend.

Please vote!!! Lj should be given some credit for taking this on and by
not voting you're telling him why bother, we don't care. Well, we do
care. I care for the potential MVP's and I'm never going to be one so it's
not a vested interest talking. Responders to the list are a lot like
firemen, they come in and put their life (livelyhood) on the line by
providing answers that anyone on the internet can read. It's a small token
of our appreciation to recognize their contribution by nominating them and
voting for them. Let's stand up and recognize their heroic efforts!

u ... guess this was a bit of what is referred to as a 'rant' ! Now
I'm energized for work, are you energized to vote!

In the cluster, if one jvm or https fails , the other will pick up the

AIE Data Issue: Primary Key failure

2013-07-31 Thread John Kenny
Hello All:

We are running AIE 7.5 and have discovered a bug with AIE in regards to how it
handles building the Primary Key. We run an import of data in CSV file daily
and have been seeing that some of the data records are not getting loaded into
Remedy. What we discovered was if any of the data in any column that is used to
build the Primary Key has the pattern AND such as Name = JOHN KENNY AND
SONS, AIE fails to build the Primary Key and AIE aborts its attempt to create
a record in Remedy. Remove the AND and the record imports fine. It appears
that when AIE goes to build the Primary Key and sees AND in the data it
treats as the AND operator. In our case simply removing any reference to
AND from the data prior to AIE import is not an option.

Has anyone experienced this issue and if so, is there a fix or workaround you
can share.

Secondly, the tool you are using is 'Legacy', in that it has been replaced

 Hello All:

We are running AIE 7.5 and have discovered a bug with AIE in regards to
how it handles building the Primary Key. We run an import of data in CSV
file daily and have been seeing that some of the data records are not
getting loaded into Remedy. What we discovered was if any of the data in
any column that is used to build the Primary Key has the pattern AND
such as Name = JOHN KENNY AND SONS, AIE fails to build the Primary Key
and AIE aborts its attempt to create a record in Remedy. Remove the AND
and the record imports fine. It appears that when AIE goes to build the
Primary Key and sees AND in the data it treats as the AND operator.
In our case simply removing any reference to AND from the data prior to
AIE import is not an option.

Has anyone experienced this issue and if so, is there a fix or workaround
 you can share.

 Thanx in advance

 John

Changing table query details via Active Link

2013-07-31 Thread Ray Gellenbeck
Hey, for the few of us out there who still custom-develop...remind an old dog
of the programmatic way to alter a table query conditions via active link. Do
you store the criteria in a hidden character field?

(use 7.6.04, we haven't adopted 8.1 for a few more months)

Use Case / Example:

I display a list of change records in my custom change app and show all open
records for a certain team.

I provide a pulldown for the form user to change the view criteria to all open
records with a change type of Standard.

Very different criteria.

Can the query criteria be stored in a character field, then have one Active
Link modify the contents of the character field then fire a refresh of the
table so it uses the new criteria and, in turn, displays new results list in
the table? I don't need to change columns and even if I did, I know how to
hide/unhide those via AL (simple). I'm focused on the table's query criteria.

My older/clunkier way is just to build 2 tables and hide/reveal the appropriate
one, but it would be cleaner and lighter to just modify a single table's search
criteria. It's just been so long since I've dealt with such a case that I
don't remember if you can do it and prefer not to waste time experimenting if
the list can help me avoid it.

Thanks in advance to replies.

Re: Changing table query details via Active Link

2013-07-31 Thread Mueller, Doug
Raymond,

I suggest you look into the EXTERNAL() clause that you can stick into the
qualifier. It allows you to have part or all of the qualification defined
dynamically by putting into a field and the EXTERNAL() says to include that
into the qualification at runtime.

Take a look at

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/download/attachments/165478929/ARS_WorkFlowObjectsGuide_7604.pdf?version=1modificationDate=1348736396000api=v2

page 217

This is the 7.6.04 documentation and that page is the one that documents this
capability.

What you are attempting is a straight-forward operation that is fully supported
for exactly the type of operation you are attempting.

Data Load Console Confusion!

2013-07-31 Thread Warren R. Baltimore II
ARS 7.6.04 patch1
ITSM 7.6.04
Windows 2008 R2 Server running against MS SQL. Running user tool on the
server.

I've uploaded via the Data Load Console about 4 records into the People
form. Now, I'm trying to load associated Work Log/work history.

I'm using the People spreadsheet and have loaded tab 15 with the
information. Everything is being loaded with an Activity Type of General
Information. Each entry has the same Person ID as the corresponding record
already in CTM:People.

The problem that I am having is every record when I validate is coming back
with an error 108 - Invalid Person.

I've followed the workflow on the CTM:LoadPeopleWorkLog form, and from what
I see, the person id should be validated almost immediately as the record
exists in CTM:People, but obviously, something is going wrong

Has anybody ever seen this happen before?

In Asset Management, I see that on any CI, there is a Print button.
When I dug (and dug and dug and dug) through the workflow of this, I
found that it's opening a Crystal Report called AST_CI.rpt. This is
attached to the Report Name CI Ticket on the Report form.

When I click on the print button it works just fine in our midtier.

I have a custom form and I created a Crystal Report file (.rpt) and
created a record on the Report form (just like the CI Ticket record),
but when I try to click on MY print button, I get Error during

We do not have a Crystal Report server set up but I do have Crystal

Re: Crystal Reports - Why doesn't mine work?

2013-07-31 Thread Schon, Stuart
As long as the .rpt report is defined correctly in Remedy and has
appropriate w/f flow to trigger it and provide it the data then you do
not need to have Crystal Reports Server. Remedy itself will handle the
invocation and display.

Have you checked that the report works external to Remedy using the CR
developer to run it? Note the report must be configured to run against
the OBDC Client.
