Re: ENGAGE / ENRAGE

2014-07-28 Thread Sanford, Claire
My plan was to come on Sunday and leave on Saturday. I planned on attending
the certification sessions. They are not even worth it!

Dan, how can we give them the benefit of the doubt? They have had since 2009
to watch and learn how to do it from the Masters!! People that managed to hold
down a full time job and do the conference! They even appear to have hired a
company to do all the heavy lifting for them! I know you probably have to be
supportive, the rest of us don’t. It is extremely disappointing. I talked
this up to a co-worker who was also going to ask to attend this year. There is
one CMDB session (maybe 2?). How can he justify the expense!?

I was looking forward to this because it was sort of like “going home again”.
The RUG that was held there before was so full of great memories and learning
that I really wanted it to be good!

Then again that conference had you, Rick Cook, Warren Baltimore, Pat Zandi,
Kim Moody, Phil Bautista and a host of other really awesome people to learn
from! The conversations were both entertaining and very educational!

Remember the ARSLIST party in the Sushi Restaurant! Very well attended and
lots of fun! “Look for the bright pink sign that says ARSLIST” The midnight
raid of the vending machines, the trip 10 miles away to purchase beverages. I
am starting to feel old!

They may be busy but I look at the sessions and still struggle to see any
technical depth for the BMC Remedy area. It might be there but with the naming
of sessions I can’t tell.

That being said, and of course I am biased, let’s give them the benefit of the
doubt. After all, BMC hasn’t done a North American conference since 2007, so
they are probably working hard to get it right.
Everyone gave us the benefit of the doubt in 2009, or at least a couple of
hundred of you did ☺

As for Evening sessions, Evening with Engineering has been on their schedule
since day one, unique and important and worth attending the conference just for
it!
For additional interesting networking, stay tuned, something will be worked out
…..

How many are arriving Sunday (or before) or leaving after Thursday?

I am giving up Canadian Thanksgiving Monday to be there, I need it to be
worthwhile!

I guess the best 'rejection letter' you can possibly get is the accepted list
coming out and not being able to find yourself anywhere on there.

Looking through the sessions, I see there are 120 sessions total. 46 are
'Remedy' related, that's ITSM or ROD (38%) in some way or another. Of those
only 12 are not being done by BMCers (10%). 4 of those are listed as
'Technical' (3%). All 4 of them are directly related to ITSM (3 SRM, 1 CMDB).
Nothing that's directly related to Remedy as a development platform, but as a
platform to sell their OOTB toolspart of me is disappointed, but not
surprised.

Both of the topics I submitted were of a technical nature, relating to Remedy,
not ITSM...so, I guess that's likely why neither topic was selected for
presentation

and due due to the fact that I was counting on not paying the admission fees,
I'm not going to be able to justify the expense to attend this
year...so...maybe I'll do them anyway, but post them on my site instead so
everyone can benefit instead of just the ones that attend Engage...who knows.

I guess the best 'rejection letter' you can possibly get is the accepted
list coming out and not being able to find yourself anywhere on there.

Looking through the sessions, I see there are 120 sessions total. 46 are
'Remedy' related, that's ITSM or ROD (38%) in some way or another. Of
those only 12 are not being done by BMCers (10%). 4 of those are listed as
'Technical' (3%). All 4 of them are directly related to ITSM (3 SRM, 1
CMDB). Nothing that's directly related to Remedy as a development
platform, but as a platform to sell their OOTB toolspart of me is
disappointed, but not surprised.

Both of the topics I submitted were of a technical nature, relating to
Remedy, not ITSM...so, I guess that's likely why neither topic was selected
for presentation

and due due to the fact that I was counting on not paying the admission
fees, I'm not going to be able to justify the expense to attend this
year...so...maybe I'll do them anyway, but post them on my site instead so
everyone can benefit instead of just the ones that attend Engage...who
knows.

By doing our own thing we would simply be creating an overlay on ENGAGE.
Once we create the overlay we can customize and changes by BMC won't have
an impact. Except if they delete one of us in base, that will have an
impact on the overlay.

If the conference is more “sales” than technical, there is no way I can

interesting stuff.

I'll be there too also to network. It will be hard for BMC to screw up the
networking. That is unless none of the usual suspects attend and there is
nobody to network with. I guess worst case I buy tickets to the parks and
enjoy the week.

So Dan... Where is WWRUG15 going to be?

Seems like we could all meet somewhere cheaper, put on our own "event" off
the cuff, and get a better value. Oh, wait. We used to do that, and it
was pretty good.

Unless I am seriously misreading this schedule/agenda, I can't imagine even
wanting to ask to go. Has v1.0 written all over it.

Re: ENGAGE

2014-07-28 Thread laurent matheo

Yeah I proposed this... Somekind of "genius bar" or something, maybe panel
like, or small breakouts or something...
Could have been setup like a "mini community onsite" using Matt for this...

Maybe we could squat the booth location for this when it's not attended? If
it's like wwrug, it's just opened for lunch / not a long time, we could use the
place to do some small groups about a theme or something?

So, a mix between the "bird & the feathers", "genius bar", "community" and
whatever?

We could even stream it live on the net so the others could see it (that could
be a problem with BMC rules though).

If the conference is more “sales” than technical, there is no
way I can get approval. I’ll be disappointed if they go back to the way it was
before it became WWRUG!

I agree that our WWRUG friends are much better at communicating
and giving people the information they need to decide, get approvals and make
travel arrangements than BMC. Let's just hope they don't completely miss the
mark on this conference.

Of course, the one time I try to create a poll about this in Communities, I
get an error each time I try to submit. Maybe it's because I'm using the
BMC Engage tags :)

travel arrangements than BMC. Let's just hope they don't completely miss the
mark on this conference.

We are currently on version 11.2.0.3 of the Oracle database. Oracle is planning

Once it is released, the DBA would like to start upgrading our databases from

I checked the compatibility matrix and got this:

Question on open sockets

2014-07-28 Thread Hodgdon, Paul
Is this type of behavior normal?

Right now one of the production AR servers has 3600 sockets in "use" by the
ARemail java process, and almost 3800 sockets
assigned to the arserverd daemon.

IPv6 traffic is not being blocked by the server and we are wondering if it
should be.

Remedy License Report via BMC Analytics.

2014-07-28 Thread ersureshbe
Hi Team,

Is it possible to get the License Report - "Historical License Usage" form
via BMC Analytics?

Have tried into Remedy Report using scheduler option. But, Max entries get
list we have mentioned as 2000 to avoid performance issue.

Do we have any option to get whole month license usage from "Historical
License Usage" form thorugh auto scheduler.

Kindly advise.

Regards,

Suresh Loganathan

Re: Installing Atrium Integrator on 7.6.04 system

2014-07-28 Thread Peter Romain
The 7.6.04 AI can’t access the Remedy forms directly – this is what Carl is
referring to.

Only the CMDB can be accessed.

However, you can use AI to access the database tables directly.

If you can copy the complete database record (Request ID, submitted and
modified dates, etc) from the source server to the destination server then this
should be quite straightforward.

It would be a little more complex if you have clobs.

It’s also easier if you don’t have status history enabled as you don’t then
have any H records.

Cheers

Peter

Follow-up question, Carl.

We are wanting to use AI to move data between non-ITSM servers and a separate
Data Warehouse. Our scenario would work like this:

* On a custom form on a custom AR Server, a record is saved.
* That action initiates a Filter that populates a local copy of the
UDM:Execution form on the custom AR Server.
* That Filter calls a Web Service on the AI server, pushing the data from
the custom UDM:Execution form to the real one on the AI server.
* The AI job called on the AI server gets data from the custom server and
moves it into the DW DB using connection data already configured in the
job/transformation.

Given those circumstances, could we use the 7.6.04 version of AI (installed on
a 7.6.04 AR/Atrium/ITSM server), since AI is only being used to process jobs
from other servers, and no local data is being read or written?

Hi Rick,

The functionality in the version of Pentaho that was integrated for 7.6.04
didn't have the extended feature set of the later versions
(adapters/connectors).

The plugins were re-written and the functionality was extended to include the
additional connectors/adapters in 8.x.

AIE / AI on 7.6.04 was pretty much on par, once 8.x came along AI overtook AIE
on functionality/versatility/scheduling/etc.

Wow, I forgot about that. That might be the deal breaker there. What was the
reason that custom forms wouldn't work? Hard coding in the binaries?

Has anyone out there installed Atrium Integrator on an existing 7.6.04 ARS/ITSM
system?

The 8.x install documentation specifies that AI must be installed between CMDB
and ITSM. The 7.6 docs I've seen don't really seem to say much about AI until
you start talking about upgrading it.

Also, the BSM Interoperability Matrix indicates that 7.6.04 SP2 is required at
all levels to have AI installed at all, the retrofit question aside. Can
anyone confirm or refute that? We're on 7.6.04 SP1, and I fear that we're
stuck with AIE until we upgrade.

Thanks.

Oracle Upgrade Question

2014-07-28 Thread Hennigan, Sandra
Any DBA/Remedy guru out there?

Environment:

ARS 8.1

ITSM 8.1

Oracle db

Atrium SSO 8.1

Mid-Tier 8.1.01 SP1

We are currently on version 11.2.0.3 of the Oracle database. Oracle is planning
to release the 12.1.0.2 patchset for the 12c database in the next few months.
Once it is released, the DBA would like to start upgrading our databases from
11.2 to 12c. This is considered a major Oracle product version upgrade.

I checked the compatibility matrix and got this:

Database

Operating System

Microsoft SQL 2008, Microsoft SQL 2008 R2

Microsoft Windows 2008 (64 bit), Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 (64bit)

Oracle 11g , Oracle 11g R2

Solaris 10

Oracle 11g, Oracle 11g R2

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (64-bit)

Oracle 11g , Oracle 11g R2

Microsoft Windows 2008 (64 bit), Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 (64bit)

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thank you,

Sandra Hennigan
Remedy Developer
