Assuming that you are talking about custom code, there shouldn't be any
issues between 8.x and 9. If you were pre-v7, there would be a few issues,
but you're probably good.

Remedy 9.0 SQL requirements

2015-10-20 Thread Ryan Nicosia
I've looked through the 9.0 upgrade documentation and outside of some basic
sizing guidelines I'm not really finding what I'm looking for.

I've also downloaded the worksheet that BMC put together for planning your
resource requirements for 9.0 install based on users, ticket throughput, etc.

What I am after are recommendations on a virtualized Microsoft SQL cluster and
what we should provide to our SQL team on how SQL should be provisioned to
support Remedy. In the past, we ran into several issues with DB connectivity
from ARS due to an unidentifiable issue with latency between the cluster
(veritas in this instance) and the storage array where the database was
actually housed. The only solution was to revert back to a physical SQL server.

We want to avoid this situation with our 9.0 upgrade by ensuring all of the SQL
requirements are provided up front. Unfortunately, it looks like BMC
documentation is kind of lacking in this regard.

So, for anybody that has upgraded to 9.0 and has a large user base and large DB
with a lot of transactions, do you have any lessons learned or recommendations
for Microsoft SQL server in a clustered environment?

Hi Williamson

Probably best to review what that modifications are doing. Do these
modifications integrate with ITSM at all or are they a totally separate
application?

Depending on what the modifications are doing will affect whether you can
simple bring them across untouched or whether you need to review the code and
amend where required.

Hope this makes sense

Upgrade advice

2015-10-20 Thread Williamson, Victoria (CIV)
Good Morning Y'all!

I will be upgrading a unique system where as the majority of the modifications
are done as ARSystem and not in ITSM. I have the documentation on the how to
for the ITSM 8.2 => 9.*. The question is what's the best plan for the 'other
stuff'. Because it's built in ARSystem does it need to be upgraded too? Or
can we 'reuse' it after the ITSM upgrade? Any advice on this endeavor is very
welcome. Thank you.

Re: Email Struggles

2015-10-20 Thread Warren R. Baltimore II
Mission accomplished! In the past, when we attempted to use the newer
versions of Java, it would kill the email process. I got to thinking that
when we tried that previously, we were using very different approaches to
the retrieving email (MBOX). I had never tried using the newer versions
with IMAP. So, I pointed the email daemon at the newest version
(jdk1.6.0_101) and surprise! It worked!

Thanks for getting me to think about that Pat!

Re: User tool and Newer AR server

2015-10-20 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
That is cause the Web log shows
  SELECT DISTINCT 'no C1',C536870923 FROM T98 WHERE (T98.C7 = 0) ORDER BY
C536870923 ASC, 1 ASC
versus the User tool log showing
  SELECT T98.C1,C536870923 FROM T98 WHERE (T98.C7 = 0) ORDER BY C536870923
ASC, 1 ASC

The DISTINCT ‘no C1’ will only bring back from the database the 50 some records
of the States (much more efficient than doing the distinct inside the AR Server
process)

Actually my Max Entries Returned By GetList = 5000

I’m not sure where the 20k comes from as I did a grep on the server and
couldn’t find any place where I have 20k

Fred,
Do you have your server properties set to return a maximum of 20K records?

Re: Upgrade advice

2015-10-20 Thread Rafael Rodriguez
Hello Victoria,

There are several factors here that are unknown at the moment. For example,
if your customizations are tied to certain integrations or are they just
stand alone customizations within your environment. Or are some of your
customization tied to any of the OOTB ITSM apps?

Without getting into all the details what is your ARS platform version?
8.1.02? If you created all you custom objects using Dev stuidio "Best
Practice" then all you customizations will be available after upgrade to
9.0. That being said, it is highly recommended that you run the Pre-Checker
utility before each component and address any issues that it
discovers..ESPECIALLY fields ids created in reserve range.

User tool and Newer AR server

2015-10-20 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
We just found another place where a newer AR Server breaks using the User Tool.
(Yes I know, we are trying to get users to move off of it)

AR Server 8.1.02 201408260235
AR User 7.6.04 SP4 Sep , 6 2012

We have a regular form to hold Zip codes.(42,000 + records)
There is a search menu against that form to list the State values (Label Field
"State", Value Field "State", Sort on Label, Qualification: 'Status' =
"Active")

When we were using the menu against a 7.6.04 server everything worked
correctly. Now that we have upgraded the server to 8.1.02 the User tool
doesn't show the complete list anymore.

I went and captured SQL logs.
In User tool when opening a menu the selections are not complete.

Re: Upgrade advice

2015-10-20 Thread BradRemedy
Hi Williamson

Probably best to review what that modifications are doing. Do these
modifications integrate with ITSM at all or are they a totally separate
application?

Depending on what the modifications are doing will affect whether you can
simple bring them across untouched or whether you need to review the code
and amend where required.

Hope this makes sense

Cheers
Brad
