Folks,

It doesn't help with the 1994 answer (it was somewhere here in the SF Bay Area,
CA but I cannot promise
which city/hotel), but something that would allow confirmation of things from
1997 and later.

I just remembered that it is pretty easy to confirm things with a few minutes
looking on the web.

There is this cool web site

http://archive.org/web/web.php

that you can go to and enter any web address you want - say you entered
www.remedy.comhttp://www.remedy.com just to pick
something (or you could pick www.bmc.comhttp://www.bmc.com for 2002 and
later). It will then show you a timeline of snapshots
of the web site address. You can then pick any snapshot and see the web site
from that point in time. Links
on the page are active to links to pages from that time as well.

The www.remedy.comhttp://www.remedy.com shows the earliest snapshot in 1997.

But, for example, I went to 2005 (OK, it showed me the BMC page as
www.remedy.comhttp://www.remedy.com redirected to BMC
by that time) and picked a snapshot from June 8 and it showed me a page (not
real pretty, but it had all the
data) and there it listed the BMC Remedy User Group from 11 - 15 July, 2005 in
San Jose, CA.

So, you already have the information you need, but I have used this web site on
a number of occasions to
find the state of a web site or information on it at some point in the past --
always amusing if there happens
to have been a snapshot of a website while something a company tried later to
remove or change and you
can get back to what it was before they changed it

This should allow confirmation of all dates/locations from 1997 and later if
that information was ever up on
the web site (and it should have been in all years).

Now, for those who never knew about this site, your productivity has likely
just plunged as you go and play
with a new toy!

I have been sent compelling information that has convinced me that it was DC in
2004.
I will get our WWRUG web site fixed (LOL).

So, we need 1994 for location confirmation, but likely it was Burlingame.

Well we are down to two things:

1) Still need 1994 if anybody knows

2) DC 2004 or 2005? I think RUG was 2005, there was a WARUG in July 2004.
Still looking for final confirmation

Once those two are filled in I will repost for those that might care to know.

Eventually it would be nice to fill in dates and all hotel names.

You might also be able to limit the email going out based on the user who is
creating the tickets. If your event monitor has a specific user that is used
to create the tickets, then set the email qualification to not fire if that is
the user and the email won't be sent.

I have a requirement for an Incident where under certain conditions, the
notification on create and close are not to be sent to the Customer*+ or the

notification engine level but since this is the exception rather than the rule
it would be better if I could just bypass the filter that starts the
notification process. A simple go-to would be much easier in this situation and
others if they come up. The incidents are being created from a monitoring event

ARS 7.6.03 and UT slowness

2013-05-22 Thread Barber, Sue
Hello,

We are running ARS incident (customized) version 7.6.03 and we are seeing some
debilitating slowness in some of our end user desktop UTs. We run Windows 7 64
bit on the desktop and overall have had no real issues, except for some of our
power users who are having system lock ups and degradation to the point of
being unable to work. We are working with BMC on the issue and they seem to be
leaning towards our use of the 64 bit Windows OS on our laptops. I wanted to
find out if anyone else has had issues with the 32 bit vs. 64 bit Windows OS
and if so, were you able to fix it or come up with a solution?

Thanks for your help, Sue Barber

I just counted the number of votes again.
Using raw numbers of the number of registrations on the list,
1% voted. In other words, under 50 votes.

Let’s see if we beat that on comments about keeping it before you
get too excited about it returning.

The only reason I am ending it is because I think the level of voting
reflects the level of interest;
and reflects that the arslist and participation in it is now for the most
part taken for granted.

Activity on, and interest in, the actual list has not grown in the last
couple of years, but certainly has not diminished either!

Keep Calm, Carry On.

As I told LJ and the others in our midnight on discussion:
IF there is a really big, and by big I mean say, 10% of the list,
That sends emails or creates a really long thread about continuing it,
I might be convinced to bring it back.

But with 2.5% voting, although they usually reach the right conclusion,
It says to me that the ARSlist is a commodity now and there isn’t that much
interest in
The Award.

To Clarify and somewhat repeat what I said at the conference:

There is no longer a separate session for the ARSlist Awards, it is part of
an opening session dedicated to all awards

The ARSlist carries on, and for now as “just an email list”

Doing some Awards related to the ARSlist carries on
The ARSlist MVP Award is now retired
I will be doing the 20th Anniversary of the ARSlist next year.

Twinkies and Hawaii shirts have a life of their own.
I will be throwing a wrinkle into that next year as well ☺

Someone on the list will correct me if I am wrong but, When you are loading a
WSDL into Developer Studio you are not using the server at all right then.
Everything is being performed on your local machine so the certificate needs to
be installed into the java you are using to run DevStudio with as well as on

/path/to/remedy/apps/java/jre/bin/java -Dpname=Flashboards -server -Xms32M -Xm

Someone on the list will correct me if I am wrong but, When you are loading a
WSDL into Developer Studio you are not using the server at all right then.
Everything is being performed on your local machine so the certificate needs to
be installed into the java you are using to run DevStudio with as well as on
the server so it can be used in the filter call.

certification path. If you are calling out to a web service, then this applies
to the JVM that the Java based plugin server uses. Get public parts of the
certificates from the Root CA to the end node and create a java keystore that

I added a -Dpname parameter to each of the java processes. The -D parameter
let's you add arbitrary command line parameters to the java processes. Now, if
I want to identify the email engine, I can find the PID like this:

[user@server ~]$ ps -fu user |grep Email |grep -v grep
 user 14600 13861 0 Oct 01 ? 194:08
/path/to/remedy/apps/java/jre/bin/java -Dpname=Email -Xms350m -Xmx512m -Djava.

** Based on the stack trace, your JVM needs the certificates in the
certification path. If you are calling out to a web service, then this applies
to the JVM that the Java based plugin server uses. Get public parts of the
certificates from the Root CA to the end node and create a java keystore that
contains the certificates and change the JVM configuration to use that keystore:
http://www.sslshopper.com/article-most-common-java-keytool-keystore-commands.html

The second part of the issue seems to be that the url is not valid; hence the
URI not found error. As Frederick suggested, check the URI in a browser.

** It's not a straight forward thing to do, but here is how I do it:

1. Identify the plugin server configuration file.  It will contain the plugin
entry for ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE:

      pathelement
type=location/path/to/ARSystem/pluginsvr/websvcjava75.jar/pathelement
      classnamecom.bmc.arsys.ws.plugin.WSPlugin/classname
    /plugin

2. Identify the port that the plugin server listens on (defined in the
pluginsvr_config.xml):
pluginsvr_config
  port4052/port
...

3. Find the process that the port is bound to:
[user@server ~]$ lsof -u user |grep LISTEN |grep 4052
java      14599 user   11u  IPv4 0x60084001480        0t0       TCP server:4052
(LISTEN)

You now have several pieces of information:
1. The installation path for the correct plugin server
2. The configuration file for the correct plugin server
3. The PID of the currently running plugin server

With this information you can identify the correct entry in armonitor.conf that
you need to modify to add the java keystore parameters.

This is a little off topic, but I have simplified the process by adding markers
for each of the java processes.  This makes identifying each process easy:

[user@server ~]$ ps -fu user |grep java |grep -v grep
 user 14606 13861   0   Oct 01 ?           2:15 java -Dpname=PluginSvrAtrium

 user 14610 13861   0   Oct 01 ?           1:16
/path/to/remedy/apps/java/jre/bin/java -Dpname=License -server -Xms32m -Xmx64m
 user 14600 13861   0   Oct 01 ?         193:57
/path/to/remedy/apps/java/jre/bin/java -Dpname=Email -Xms350m -Xmx512m -Djava.
 user 14605 13861   0   Oct 01 ?           3:12 java -Dpname=PluginSvrNE
-server -Xms128m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=32m -XX:MaxPerm
 user 14599 13861   0   Oct 01 ?           4:02 ./java -Dpname=PluginSvrMain
-server -Xms128m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=32m -XX:Max
 user 14608 13861   0   Oct 01 ?           2:35
/path/to/remedy/apps/java/jre/bin/java -Dpname=Flashboards -server -Xms32M -Xm

I added a -Dpname parameter to each of the java processes.  The -D parameter
let's you add arbitrary command line parameters to the java processes.  Now, if
I want to identify the email engine, I can find the PID like this:

[user@server ~]$ ps -fu user |grep Email |grep -v grep
 user 14600 13861   0   Oct 01 ?         194:08

adding script to midtier 6.3

2007-06-29 Thread Barber, Sue
Hello list,

I am trying to add some script to a form and it works fine in HomeSite,
but when I try to pull it up in the form, I get the following errors:

Caught exception: Current Style is Null or not an object.

I think it is because there are style attributes and java in the code
that I was given to add and I have added the whole thing to the 'Edit
Web Header' area. I tried splitting it all up and adding it in the
source through the Insert script area and added the style information
in per the documentation. I get further when I add the whole thing to
the Edit Web Header - at least I see some of what I am looking for.

I have a ticket in with Remedy, but thought I might actually get some
ideas back from you all. If anyone has any thoughts on this, please
let me know.

Sue Barber

Re: Installation of ARS 6.3 patch 20

2007-05-03 Thread Barber, Sue
We are still having problems with this install - Remedy has not been
much help, even after escalation. We reinstalled development and were
able to bring it back up, shut down, and started the integration
install. We tried renaming the development path so that they didn't
mix this time, but the integration install is still trying to put files
in the development directory structure - even though it isn't there
anymore.

Is there a way to force Remedy into a specific path structure? We are
installing two instances on one box, one for development and one for
integration. Development is fine, but the integration install tries to
use the development paths - we are telling it during the install to go
to the integration path, but it seems to be a little strong minded.

This has been running like this for quite some time, so this isn't
anything new, just a new version.

Sue,

Technically yes, using the installer it should have
worked..

I did do a patch 20 install and had no problems with it
using the installer..

Did you verify that the downloaded installer file has
not been updated at the website? Maybe there might have been a problem
with the released version of it earlier and they might have replaced it
with some other? I'd roll out of the update go back to your previous
patch version, get the ARS started and working on that version, then
download patch 20's installer, and run the install..

We did use the installer, but a co-worker

Sue,

It appears you have used the file replace
method to install this patch.. There is a known issue with ARS 6.3
upgrade to patch 20.. The file replacement method of installing the
patch fails with exactly the same error that you pointed out..

Instead download the installer and upgrade the

Hope this helps..

Hello all,

We installed ARS 6.3, patch 20 on a new

seem to pinpoint where the issue is.

This system is a Solaris system -
Oracle 10g with 9 libraries, we have two instances of Remedy (one for
development and one for test on this box). We installed the
development with no problems, started out test environment install
yesterday and it appears to be grabbing pieces of both instances, as
well

**

Sue,

Check your environment during the install. You may have an
environment variable set that is causing the problem.

The variables to look at are probabley PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH,
ORACLE_HOME. Also make sure that you do not have ARCONFIGDIR,
ARTCPPORT set.

Another thing to check is if your development server is running with
portmapper. On our dev/test server I do not let either of the Remedy
servers use portmapper. I specify a specific port for each of them.

Are you using a different login on the Solaris box for each instance to
run under? Are you trying to install then as root (I never install
Remedy as root).

Validate field data - allowing some to be NULL

2007-03-30 Thread Barber, Sue
Hi all,

I have a question for you on validating field data. I did search the
archives and it isn't allowing me to open the notes - says file not
found, sooo...

I have a form that people can use to request additional network space
with and the field in question is for them to enter the amount of space
in GB that they want. I originally had the field limited with $DIGIT$,
but when they made a mistake the entire form was being reset. They
decided they would like a message to be used instead, so I have created
a filter that verifies the field as such:

( 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' != $NULL$ )  AND  ( NOT (
'Requested storage amount in GB: ' LIKE [.0-9][.0-9][.0-9]
[.0-9][.0-9]))

However, I don't want to force them to enter a number into all 5
spaces, so I need to allow 4 of these to be NULL. Anyone know if there
is a way to do that? They want to be able to enter numbers or
decimals - like 2 or 2.5.

Thanks, Sue

If you insist on keeaping the character field, try:
( 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' LIKE *[^.0-9]*
) OR ( 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' LIKE
*.*.* )...then throw error

You can play around and make it smarter by allowing
leading or trailing spaces, disallowing . etc.

Sue:
I am not sure why you gave up on the character field.

Did you try the qualification I sent? Using that or a
variaion of it, you can keep the character field and
be in complete control of the type of message the user
gets.

Here's a refined scheme:
First do the following Set Field...
RTRIM( LTRIM( 'Requested storage amount in GB: '))

...on field 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' to
remove leading and trailing blank characters and then
use the qualification:

( 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' LIKE
*[^.0-9]* )
OR ( 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' LIKE *.*.*
)
OR ( 'Requested storage amount in GB: ' = . )
on a filter to throw the error.

If the field won't be used in a numeric calculation,
there is no harm in keeping it as a character field.

Re: Daylight savings time again

Since Remedy people are reading this, when I called Remedy support

needed - just to make sure the system and java are all patched. It is
a good thing this list is here or we might have been really unhappy

I need to chime-in on this as well. I've read that there are patches
for
6.3 and 7.0. How about 6.0? As I understand it, this release is on
the
cusp, but still supported. It'll go end-of-life (unsupported) when ARS
7.5
is released - later in 2007. It seems to me that there should be a
patch
for ARS 6.0 as well. (6.0.1, if it matters).

AR System 5.1.2 is unsupported and there are no plans to patch AR
System
5.1.2 for DST issues. If you look at the chart, the resolution is:

Install AR system 6.03 with Patch 20, or 7.0.01. Follow instructions
for
those AR releases.

The reason it says 1/15/2007 for the resolution date is because that is
when the Patch 20 for AR System 6.03 will be available. Note that, as
posted by me earlier, that 7.0.01 will also require patch 001 which
should
be out by end of this month. The chart will be updated with this
information shortly.

Hopefully there will be a patch for 5.1.2 as well - there is a Planned
Resolution Date of 1/15/2007 listed for that version. There is no way
that my current production 5.1.2 hardware will run either 6.3 or 7.x
adequately so upgrading is not an option, and at the rate our ITSM 7
build
has been going we probably won't be in production on 7 by March.

Re: Sharing ARS between countries

2006-08-09 Thread Barber, Sue
We did this in a previous company I worked for with DSO - we
transferred tickets with ownership between sites and we added a code
field for all the data so the code would pull the correct data
depending on the languages they were using.

Thanks for the reminder.

Any thoughts about how we share tickets if they want to use their own
server?
Thanks,

Ron:

Bingo. You are on the right track. You will have to add localization
for the French speaking folks.

Also, remember, ARS does not do translation between the different
languages.

My company's Canadian subsidiary is in the process of joining their EDP
system to the system we use here in the US. They'll be creating support
tickets using ARSystem for their own Help Desk, but some of those may
need to be escalated to support staff in the US. I'd appreciate
people's
thoughts as to how best to accomplish this.

My first thought is just to have them use the same Remedy server as the
US. We'd just add support groups for Canada and French localizations
and
we're good to go.

If they want to have their own Remedy server, though, would DSO be an
option? Can it share tickets between servers based on certain
conditions, or does it pretty much just replicate one server to
another?

We're currently running ITSM 5.6 on ARS 6.0.1, but by the time Canada
comes on board, we'll be on ITSM 6.0 (maybe 7.0) on ARS 7.0.

SOLVED: Application upgrade 5.5 to 5.6

2006-07-25 Thread Barber, Sue
**

Just in case anyone else runs into
this.

the archid utility for Solaris does not have exe
permissions when you download it, so that has to be updated. Second, the
documentation tell you that you can place it anywhere and set the path, you have
to place it in the /install path/common/solaris directory. Once these two
things were done, the script ran, but it will take about 2 hours per
application, so we are waiting for the next 8 hoursto see if it completes
successfully, but at least it is running.

Thanks for all the help, Sue

  Sue I ran into a
number of issues with this upgrade. It actually took me a number of
months and numerous restores of the database to finally make it
  successful.

The first problem that I had was
I had to get all of the 6.3 dlls that are part of the new 6.3 archgid and
install them on the server as well as the .exe.
The upgrade wanted to put an
index on SHR:Application some fields on SHR application properties, but
there were some null values that had to be given
values
There were some GUID
requirements that were not a part of 5.5 but are a part of 5.6, so I had to
create GUIDs for several forms such as USER, TCO:Costs, and
SHR:People. ( I did this back in January, so I am going from
memory)
  I really used the
upgrade logs that are created on the server to see where my errors were and
worked with Remedy to fix them.

  After I successfully
upgraded from 5.5 to 5.6 I had to make a couple of changes before I could go
  to HD 6.0.
  1.
  There
were a couple of field IDs on Remedy Support for that did not get updated and
caused 5.5 to 6.0 to fail. I had to manually run Archgid on the server
  and update these fields.
  2.
  There
also were a couple of groups that were added but only had view rights in the
group form. I had to manually update those to change
  properties.

  That is what I
remember. But if when dealing with Remedy you may ask them to look at
the tickets submitted by Ed White from The Ohio State University
Medical Center. This was a horrible process for me, and when I actually
made the move from HD 5.5 to 5.6 to 6.0 it was a 17 hour process (downtime),
which in order to lessen the inconvenience for my customers the Remedy Team
pulled a 7:00 pm to 12:00 pm. About 12 hours was the actually
upgrades. The remaining time was putting all customizations back into
  place.

  I was so frustrated
after I completed the upgrade and I was on HD 6.0 that I trashed all my notes,
because I never wanted to see HD 5.5 or 5.6 or that upgrade again.

  However feel free to
email me or give me a call and pick my brain if you would like. If you
need, I could try and get the dlls for archgid 6.3 if you do not have
  them.

We are running Solaris, ARS 6.3
