Re: Crystal Report Error

2007-03-20 Thread Luttmann, Michael W Ctr 21 SCS/SCBBN
Mikhail: That may be at least part of the issue.

The ODBC settings on the client must include the name of a server to
connect to (AR Server) and a login that has at least "Read" permissions
to the data being retrieved (i.e., a User form Login Name that can read
the forms in the reports).

I have a special user account set up in the User form just for ODBC
access to Crystal Reports. It has a Restricted Read license and belongs
to a Remedy Group that can read most forms.

Hi Susan and Michael,

Thank you for your inputs.
The crystal report resides in a network location. And yes, it is
associated with an active link. We've already done the method you
suggested, yet we still get the same error.
After I reloaded everything, I didn't check the ODBC configuration
because I don't know what goes in there. I just checked it now.

This is what I have in my ODBC configuration:

I went to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC)
Under the User DSN tab, i chose "AR System ODBC Data Source" and
clicked "Configure.."
All that is setup is the "Data Source Name" which is set to "AR System
ODBC Data Source".
The rest of the fields are blank.

I'm working with Derek on this problem. We tried recreating this
problem on someone else's computer, and it worked just fine. Now with
that given, along with the error stating "An error occurred while
generating the Crystal report - Logon failed. (ARERR 1904).", tells me
that the problem must be in the client-side, probably some iffy dll's
or something. I tried uninstalling EVERYTHING on my computer that is
related to Remedy (user, admin, migrator, alert), then reinstalled
everything again (v7.0.01 patch 001), but I still get that error.
Any thoughts?

Thank you,

I would check with your Exchange administrator(s) and make sure that the
Exchange Server is configured to ACCEPT incoming connections via SMTP.
It is disabled by default, I believe.

Frank,

Hum... based on the limited info you provided I am not sure
where the
break down is. But here is some information that might help you
figure
it out based on the rest of the data you see in the logs.

( I am only talking about outbound email here. )

What the Email Engine does is login to the ARS sever (using the
application password) and get the Email Config info. Assuming
that
works then it should be able to also read data from the AR
System
Email Messages form. It will use the Email Config info to "do
the
right thing" with messages that are waiting to be sent. ('Send
Message' = "Yes")

If the Email Engine is getting this far and failing to connect
to the
SMTP server then I think you will only see errors in the email
engine
logs. (But you might also see AR System Email Error Log form
entries
too.)

ON the other hand

If the Email Engine is unable to talk to the ARS server (via the
application password) then it will not even be able to read the
Email
Config form or the "AR System Email Messages" form.

So if that Authentication error is specific to the SMTP server,
then
you likely need to fix the data in the MailBox Config form. (or
maybe
your NT Account has been locked/disabled/password changed?)

If the Authentication error is specific to the Email Engine
login to
ARS, then you need to updates is "application password" in it's
config
file. (See the docs for details.)

Re: ARS Admin Tool 7.02 (Error writing registry values) ARERR 2815

2006-11-28 Thread Luttmann, Michael W Ctr 21 SCS/SCBBN
We have gotten around this. If your network makes you use a non-admin
account (an account without local admin rights) for regular work, like
ours, then launch the Admin Tool using "Run as..." and select an account
with local admin rights. You only need to do this once, and then you
can work normally after that.

Still not sure which registry entries need to be written, but at least
it doesn't yell at us any more.

I have not found a fix, Did not put in a ticket..

I figured it was just me.. it seems not to hurt anything..

But I believe it is a SDC configuration that prevents it from writing to

I have not had any issues, except it does come up everytime.

I am not planning on logging a ticket, as I just don't have the time..
if the admintool did not work.. I would.

Re: Active Directory Administration from Remedy

2006-11-13 Thread Luttmann, Michael W Ctr 21 SCS/SCBBN
We do fairly extensive personnel management by pushing and pulling info
to and from Active Directory using the LDAP vendor forms. We even do
account creation and disabling that way now, through our (customized)
personnel management form.

We have set up our ARDBC LDAP form to use a domain account with admin
privileges in AD, then I created filters that modify the vendor form
data as values are changed in Remedy. The implicit SAVE action from the
filter writes the data to AD.

I've only had one issue with it, when I tried to modify two values in
one filter and it caused the LDAP thread to lock up. While debugging, I
split the action into two separate filters (to see which value was
causing the problem), and it all cleared up.

I'll be happy to provide more detail if you have specific questions.

Chris,

I have not yet set out on this path, but I see it in my future too.
>From the little work I have done playing with the idea I think one
option might be to turn to a command line interface. (Especially if
your ARS server runs on a Windows Server.) AD appears to have some
command line tools that might make this type of thing fairly easy to
to.

I would think that if you have to build a Web Service front end to AD
that you would have much more initial work to do and likely more
ongoing work than using Microsoft supplied command line interfaces.

I did stumble into this info and found it quite eye opening on this
topic to. ( http://www.intel.com/it/pdf/active-directory.pdf )

Please let us (or at least me) know what you end up doing. :) I am
sure there are others out there that would like to let ARS manage
their AD universe(s) too.

We played around with this for a while, and we were able
to connect to the Magic system via SQL tables and procedures, since both our
systems were on MS-SQL.  With the proper SQL-level login connections, the data
we needed from the Magic system was pushed to a custom table on our SQL server,
then we were able to view and apply workflow to this table with a View form.

I’ve received several requests for this already…
and I will forward my procedures to all who asked.  That said, our
solution is very similar to some of the previous posts:

-
Use log shipping if possible. (We
don’t have SQL Enterprise, but I have configured off-site backups using
the SQL Agent and a custom Backup device.)

-
Use (or get) Hot Backup licenses
from BMC.  It just requires that you fill out an agreement form that you
will not abuse them.

-
Know how to set up MS SQL Maintenance
Plans to do full backups and transaction logs (ours run every 30 min.)

-
Know how to use MS SQL restore
processes, including the restoring of transaction logs.

-
Database replication is the
fastest way to maintain a backup, but may prevent you from using the target
server for development. (We have limited hardware resources.)

-
Coordinate with your Sys Admins to
have tape backups made from your database backup directory.  That way, you’ll
be able to go back as far as you want to.

The only thing about my written procedure is that it’s…
written.  The Air Force requires contractors like me to have such procedures
updated and posted.
