Email Messages does not get submitted to the holding form if the subject is blank

2009-05-13 Thread Shrestha, Manjari R.
Hello all,

I have a filter where when e-mail is submitted to the AR Email Message
form and if 'Message Type' = Incoming it gets submitted to a holding
form. Then I have Push if 1=2,

If No Request Match: Create a new Request

If Any Request Match: Modify First Matching Request

And then it pushes the needed fields. I have noticed that when the
subject line is empty it does not get submitted to the form. Any ideas?

Thanks!

My first guess is there is a field on the Holding Form that is
required and is has the subject mapped to it. Add an additional Filter
on the AR Email Messages Form that sets a default Subject (When Subject
is NULL)

Try putting quotes around all arguments that have spaces in them.
Otherwise it will treat those arguments as multiple separate arguments
rather than one argument with a space in it:

Re: Need Help with syntax for Runmacro from escalation, works from dos cmd

2009-02-06 Thread Shrestha, Manjari R.
Thank you all for replying. From the escalation log I see that the
escalation is running but it is not creating the output files, I am
thinking that this might be something to do with permissions, as the
user that will be writing the file looks like AR_ESCALATER, and that
user will not have in our Network. I am thinking I will need to create
the Output file within a folder where Remedy will have permission to
write.

Here's something to try, put cmd /c before the statement like so:

cmd /c C:\Program Files\AR System\runmacro.exe -h C:\Documents and

Without the aid of error message, I would suggest a few trial and error
experiments, if you will.

What about changing the path names in the escalation to the windows
short
names. (DIR /X will give you short name in cmd window)

Program Files -- progra~1 for example. Perhaps it's a translation
error
in the CMD process.

Are you running the cmd line version on the server or desktop? The

You may need to move the macro to the server and adjust path accordingly
where Remedy has permissions to.

If you can alter the macros then try adding the timestamp to the
 'to-file' parameter, eg to-file: x:\remedy\filename$TIMESTAMP$.csv

If you don't like the timestamp format you could build the path and
filename in a separate field and pass it to the macro as a parameter.

Then the to-file parameter would be, eg to-file: $Filename$ where
the
Filename variable is set to, for example, x:\remedy\filename

 Cheers

Another way would be to rename the file after generating. This way
you
would not have to change any of your macros. You can generate date
info
using Set Fields and the MONTH, DAY, and YEAR functions and pass them
into a routine that renames the output file.

name...then have perl generate the timestamp that you are looking
for...make a copy of the template macro, edit the copy to have a
different report name, then execute runmacro with the new macro
instead
of the template...then you can delete today's macro file.

Maybe if instead of:

you use

 to-file: x:\remedy\filename$Tm$.csv

and pass the parameter Tm set to $TIMESTAMP$ then this might work?

 Thanks Peter and others,

I tried modifying the macro with $TIMESTAMP$, but when the report was
produced it had report$TIMESTAMP$ as the name.

I will try the other suggestion.

 Again, thanks to all.

 20080902.csv

 Cheers

Another way would be to rename the file after generating. This way
you
would not have to change any of your macros. You can generate date
info
using Set Fields and the MONTH, DAY, and YEAR functions and pass them
into a routine that renames the output file.

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for your response, I am using ARS 7.1, patch 3. I have created
workflow where the emails coming in get submitted into a staging form.
The attachments are also included in this staging form in an attachment
pool, from here agents can create a new ticket, update an existing
ticket. Once they are ready to reply I have a form which sends a reply
but it does not consist of the previous correspondence.

I am working on automating e-mail. The question I have is what would be
the best solution to include the previous e-mail trails in the out going
e-mails. I am thinking, I will have to save the previous e-mails in a
temp field (diary?). I searched previous posting but could not find any
solutions posted. Any input will be much appreciated.

Gifts for Men

Christmas is just around the corner so it's time for me to share some
gift ideas for those special men in your life! Buying gifts for men is
not nearly as complicated as it is for women. Follow these rules and you
should have no problems.

Rule #1:
When in doubt - buy him a cordless drill. It does not matter if he
already has one. I have a friend who owns 17 and he has yet to complain.
As a man, you can never have too many cordless drills. For that matter
any power tool is a good choice. He may not need it, or know what it
does, but it will look good hung on the peg board in the garage.

Rule #2:
If you cannot afford a cordless drill, buy him anything with the word
ratchet or socket in it. Men love saying those two words. Hey George,
can I borrow your ratchet? OK. Bye-the-way, are you through with my
3/8-inch socket yet?

Rule #3:
If you are really, really broke, buy him anything for his car. A 99-cent
ice scraper, a small bottle of deicer or something to hang from his rear
view mirror. Men love gifts for their cars.

Rule #4:
Do not buy men socks. Do not buy men ties and never buy men bathrobes.
If God had wanted men to wear bathrobes, he wouldn't have invented
Jockey shorts.

Rule #5:
You can buy men new remote controls to replace the ones they have worn
out. If you have a lot of money buy your man a big-screen TV with the
little picture in the corner. Watch him go wild as he flips, and flips,
and flips.

Rule #6:
Do not buy a man any of those fancy liqueurs. If you do, it will sit in
a cupboard for 23 years. Real men drink whiskey or beer.

Rule #7:
Do not buy any man industrial-sized canisters of after shave or
deodorant. We do not stink - we are earthy.

Rule #8:
Buy men label makers. Almost as good as cordless drills. Within a couple
of weeks there will be labels absolutely everywhere. Socks. Shorts.
Cups. Saucers. Door. Lock. Sink. You get the idea. No one knows why.

Rule #9:
Never buy a man anything that says some assembly required on the box.
It will ruin his Special Day and he will always have parts left over.

Rule #10:
Good places to shop for men include Northwest Iron Works, Parr Lumber,
Home Depot, John Deere, Valley RV Center, and Les Schwab Tire. (NAPA
Auto Parts and Sear's Clearance Centers are also excellent men's stores.
It doesn't matter if he doesn't know what it is. From NAPA Auto, eh?
Must be something I need. Hey! Isn't this a starter for a '68 Ford
Fairlane? Wow! Thanks.)

Rule #11:
Men enjoy danger. That's why they never cook - but they will barbecue.
Get him a monster barbecue with a 100-pound propane tank. Tell him the
gas line leaks. Oh the thrill! The challenge! Who wants a hamburger?

Rule #12:
Tickets to a professional sports game (any team within 300 miles) are a
smart gift. However, he will not appreciate tickets to A Retrospective
of 19th Century Quilts.

Rule #13:
Men love chainsaws. Never, ever, buy a man you love a chainsaw. If you
don't know why - please refer to Rule #8 and what happens when he gets a
label maker.

Rule #14:
It's hard to beat a really good wheelbarrow or an aluminum extension
ladder. Never buy a real man a step ladder. It must be an extension
ladder.

Rule #15:
Rope. Men love rope. It takes us back to our cowboy origins, or at least
The Boy Scouts. Nothing says love like a hundred feet of 3/8 manilla
rope.

Rule #16:
Clamps. Men can never have enough quick grip clamps. No one knows why

Rule #17:
Buy your man Duct Tape. This is a man's most universal repair tool. All
men know, if you can't fix it, duct it.

I just wanted to add something to the previous suggestion.

4. Create a control form to hold configuration data on how to process
incoming mail. The benefit is that items such as group assignment,
categories, and priority can be updated through data changes rather than
updating workflow itself.

The control form allows you to not have to worry about development,
testing, approvals, and all the other rigors required when following a
normal Release cycle for Form and Workflow changes. A developer at a
previous company I worked at did something like this for multiple
incoming email accounts. The system was setup for a variety of support
groups so they (or automated systems) could open tickets by email.
Workflow was also configured to recognize forwarded messages, and setup
the ticket's requester as the original sender rather than the individual
forwarding the message. This proved very handy for the emails we would
get from users who email the developers directly about their problems
rather than calling the Help Desk.

Hope this helps,

My 2 cents to update an existing ticket from incoming emails.

1. Create a Staging Form that will have all the Incoming Emails.

This staging form will have fields - Subject, Message, Incident ID,
Task ID, and Service Request ID etc

2. Create Filter(s) that fires on submit with a Run If
qualification(s) of INC0% or REQ0% or WO0% or TAS0% or CRQ%
parse the respective number (using functions STRSTR, LTRIM, SUBSTR) and
set it into the corresponding field.

3. Then, push it to the corresponding work log.

This assumes that

* The Subject Line of the email will contain
Incident/Request/Work Order/Task ID.

* It is an ITSM 7 environment.

certainly not the case.

Re: Salary in Bay Area

2008-08-07 Thread Shrestha, Manjari R.
Hello,

I have been working as remedy Developer for the past one year and have
upgraded the ARS in our company from 5.1.2 to 7.1. We have only Home
grown applications. I have built couple of applications. While we are on
the subject, I could not help asking how much salary do I deserve in
Washington DC area? :-) I have Computer Science degree from Virginia
Tech, but I was asked to be a Remedy developer only a year ago.

away your HARD earned money and devaluing our profession. The bar should
be set at 100 minimum an hour. And Shawn is COMPLETELY correct about
that 15%, in fact I go 12% tops. Anything more then that and you are
getting robbed. It's not like we don't get 10-15 calls a week with job

That's strange but it makes sense that the bay area would pay less than
the rest of the country due to an overabundance of Remedy people. You
can probably get six figures as a Remedy developer with more than ten
years just about anywhere in the U.S. if you are working on ITSM,
although no person with that much experience should even be supporting a
home grown system for less than $80k/year anywhere. You can get that
much at a job in Oklahoma or Ohio, which have much lower costs of living
than the bay area. It's all about supply and demand though, so if you
want to be paid well you have to live somewhere that has very few Remedy
people available, and a lot of companies making decent money so they can
pay a decent salary too.

As far as consulting, with 10 years of experience I would suggest
looking at a minimum of $125/hour. I know BMC charges twice that for
their senior people, and a lot of the major Remedy consulting firms
charge similar rates. Any consulting firm that keeps more than 15% or
$15/hour from your rate (depending on whether you are making more or
less than $100/hr) is keeping too much. When I first did consulting I
was ripped off a few times because I went through too many layers, where
you have a small consulting firm taking 15%, who has a deal with a
larger consulting firm taking 15%, who then deals directly with the
client. In fact, I remember working with a guy who was being paid less
than $40/hour while the client was paying $150/hour only because he had
three or four consulting firms in the middle who each took their cut.
When consulting, always ask who the direct client is, and if they refuse
to tell you or if they tell you the name of another consulting company,
don't let them submit your information to the client.

I have had this problem, and noticed that, according to the remedy logs,
that remedy was unable to talk to sql server. I realized then that
windows was saying sql server was up before it really was ready to
receive connections. I also noticed that sql server agent had a
dependency of sql server, and that sql server agent took around 10 - 30
seconds to come up. So, I set sql server agent as a dependency for
remedy instead of setting sql server. This seemed to fix the problem,
because it gave sql server another 10+ seconds to come up before remedy
tried to connect.

There is a registry key that you can use to set this up, it is as
follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CURRENTCONTROLSET

SERVICES

BMC ACTION REQUEST
SYSTEM SERVER

DEPENDONSERVICE

SQLSERVERAGENT

**

Manjari,

That was our strategy when we upgraded from 5.1.2 to 7.0.1P3 and it
caused us a tremendous amount of grief. It worked in the past to keep
an older version of the user tool but with this combination it was
terrible. Something in the login process would cause issues and threads
would generate once the error was produced. Once it generated the max
number of threads to our oracle database we stopped working. We were
restarting remedy services 10-12 times a day. Working with bmc it took
us 3 weeks to figure out it was the user tool and once we starting
upgrading them the problem went away. You should find numerous posts
under my name regarding our upgrade from June, 2007.

You may not have the same issues.

Arerr 1950: Error loading menu

2007-11-20 Thread Shrestha, Manjari R.
ARS 5.1.2 on Win 2000 with SQL 2000 SP3

In the middle of routine work yesterday our remedy server began throwing
error Arerr 1950: Error loading menu. The error does not seem to be
appearing for all the agents, only few. I looked at the memory and they
have plenty unused. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Error loading menu

Character menu expansion failed in the symbols library; the menu did not
load. This is often caused by a lack of space in the Windows resource
heap when loading large menus.

Your Knowledge field looks like it's a radio button or a dropdown field.
A radio button or dropdown's value is stored as an integer in the
underlying DB. Your query should be something like this:

SELECT count(*) from HIC_Survey_Results where (Create_Date = 1188619200
AND Create_Date = 1191211200 AND Knowledge = 1)

Katherine,

Try running the Remedy Configuration Manager first. Once open go to the
Support Specifics Tab, select step 1 and select the group, go to the
show people in group tab, the individual still showing should appear.
If so, delete, if not then you need the find the SHR:Assignment form,
which is a back end form. Search there for the individuals login or
last name, then delete.

Can a qualification be included in a Submit template

2007-09-14 Thread Shrestha, Manjari R.
Hello List,

I have a .Net application which sends an e-mail template once the
Customers (who do not have access to remedy) complete the Survey to
E-mail Engine. I am using a submit action in the template. Is there a
way to put in a qualification in the submit template that will see if
the Request ID for the ticket exists and if it does then only it will
push in the values? Or is there a workflow I can create to get the same
result. I asked the Support and they informed me that the submit action
does not have any such capability. Right now the problem I am facing is,
I am sending the Request ID for the ticket but if someone changes the
Request ID, it will still submit the survey to the survey form, which is
scary. Please advise.

Thanks!

Stephen,

The problem I have is that the .NET database and the Remedy database
will not be residing at the same network. That way I do not see how the
web application can update remedy database. Unfortunately we do not have
mid-tier and are not web enabled.

Manjari,

One approach to accomplish your goal is with a web application. The
email would post to the web app. The web app would lookup the Request ID
in Remedy. If the Request ID is valid, then proceed with the submit to
the Survey form. If not, then display a message to the user.

I use this here with approvals. When someone needs access to an
application or server Remedy sends out a chain of approval emails. Each
recipient selects either Approve or Deny with optional comments, and
then clicks the Submit button (inside the email). The response is
captured by an ASP.Net app that updates Remedy.

even if the Last E-mail Sent is less than 14 days. Please advise.

(( 'DB.Last E-mail Sent Date' = $NULL$ ) OR ( 'DB.Last E-mail Sent Date

Thank you so much Robert... this information has been most helpful.

Well, depending on what version of Remedy ARS you are running (I'm
assuming 6.3 or better), you can use a field ID of 179 on a character
field and give it a length of 38 characters and this value will
automatically generate without having to do a run process
Application-Generate-GUID.

If you don't want to use the field id 179 or you are using a previous
version of Remedy ARS, then yes you would use a filter set field
action to generate that value. Just remember to put your $PROCESS$ in
front of your run process line to trigger it.

i.e. GUID_Field = $PROCESS$ Application-Generate-GUID

You can then reference your GUID in an email by sending out the text
including that field. So, for instance, if you are sending out a URL to
the users, you can send:

please visit http://yourserver/yourasp.net?GUID=$GUID_Field$ to
fill out our survey.

When you send that notification email, it will replace the $GUID_Field$
with the actual GUID genereated. Now, you may want to encode the
special characters before you send out the email. I know that at least
the pound sign (#) gets generated in the GUID. Not sure about other
characters.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your answer. Sorry for this question but I am pretty new
to Remedy. After your reply I was looking at the Guide and it said that
I can use the run process Application-Generate-GUID [GUID prefix] in
order to create a GUID. My question is do I use a filter to create a
GUID and how would I be able to pass this in the link (to send in the
e-mail).

We are not web enabled and basically I am creating an ASP.Net
application which will send an e-mail to Remedy using a template.

Thank you in advance.

Why not use the GUID field? We expire surveys older than 1 month old
and you cannot enter a survey that is already complete. That way the
possibility of someone finding a valid survey is pretty low.
