Make sure that it isn't a display only field - and no, I've never done
that myself :)

Could the issue be input length or data type related? Check to see that
the Road Only field is big enough to receive the push and the data types

Read Only is only a client attribute onlypush or set should work
into it without issue. What is the problem you are specifically having
pushing into it? You shouldn't need to push into another field and then
set into this one. Is it giving you error?

I'm having problems pushing data directly to the Read Only field. I
think that's the problem. I have to probably push it to another field
on the form and the do a "set fields" to update the Read Only field.

I'm testing this now.

All the other suggestions are good, but I want to keep the "look and
feel" of this field as Read Only. If I do what the others suggest, then
the field will look as though it is writable.

Lisa,

The field being 'read only' should have NO impact on your ability to set
the field to something via workflowwhen you say you can't, what sort
of problem are you getting?

**

I originally set up a character field as Read Only, when a customer is
modifying or adding a record, they cannot change this field. When they
do a search on this form, a Change Action makes this field Read/Write.
(I don't want anyone to change it, but I don't mind if they search on
the field). Plus I don't want to make my users use the advanced search
option, I want to make it easy.

Well, I need some workflow to update this field from time to time, but
it won't let me because the field is Read Only. No biggee, I'll just
change this field to Display as Text. (even though I don't like Display
as Text sometimes, I always end up having to draw a little box around
the field). But there is no Change Action to turn off this Display as
Text setting when the users are doing a search on the form.

Am I missing anything? Is there an easy solution to this?

**

Hi All

Here is a link to a small free application download to demonstrate a
data-driven approach to field data auditing which I hope will be of use
to some of you.

The sample application demonstrates how changes to field data can be
recorded. Rather than creating separate filters for each field to be
audited, the application uses a data-driven approach where fields can be
added to or removed from the list being audited without requiring any
workflow changes.

The audit of data changes can either be stored in an Audit Trail (diary)
field on the data record, or stored as separate change records in a
Change Log form.

Only changed fields are audited for each transaction, and the audit log
produced includes the user who made the change, time of the change, as
well as the original and changed field values. All audited changes in a
single transaction are included in a single log entry, rather than a
separate entry for each field being changed.

The documentation provided with the sample application explains how to
add this field data auditing functionality to any existing Remedy data
form.

Re: Updating view forms

2008-02-28 Thread Tucker, Rob
My memory isn't what it used to be, but I believe you can change the
view pointers at the database level by changing the tablename in the
SCHEMA_VIEW table, then restarting the system. You'll see the underlying
tables for your view fields in this table.

I don't know of a way to change the Remedy view location other than
exporting to a def, modifying the def, deleting the form and
re-importing from the modified def. Importing in place (without
deleting the form) might work.

Have you tried creating a local Remedy db view of the remote data.
Basically drop the synonym and do:

Create or Replace View MYSCHEMA.MYVIEW
as
select * from [EMAIL PROTECTED];

No changes to Remedy will then be necessary.

Subject: Updating view forms

Greetings,

In an ARS 7.0.1 / RHEL4 64bit / Oracle 10g environment, I created a view
form to look at a view of another schema in the same database as Remedy.
That schema was moved to another Oracle database so now a DB link must
be employed. This is fine except that I need to update the view form in
ARS so that it knows to look in the new location.

How can I update the view form definition to look at a different
database location?

Specifically, I want to change
Form Properties > View Information > Table Name value from
MYSCHEMA.MYVIEW to [EMAIL PROTECTED],
Field Properties > Database tab > View Information > Table value,
or use some other means to update the view form to use a new table name
value.

I tried a workaround by creating a synonym, which works fine in SQLPlus
for running queries as aradmin like "select * from MYSCHEMA.MYVIEW where
id='foo'" but each time I open the view form in Remedy Administrator,
the error "Requested database table not found. Please check the spelling
(table name is case-sensitive) (ARERR 481)" is reported and I am not
able to get AR to use the synonym, even to create new view form, like I
am with SQLPlus. I've found old bugs relating to synonyms, but I am not
tied to using this approach to solve the problem anyway.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Isn't an H table just Status History records though?

Mary, I get it now, but I don't think I can help. A copy of Oracle SQL
Developer will give you a view where you can see all the tables and the
next record id, so you would be able to find 18429 and that may help
solve the puzzle. One of the guys here says to recache the arserver and
try again, or maybe it's an H table.

This would be useful to generate documentation for altered cdm data
models within the cmdb, which I am assume, to varying degrees, is most
users of the cmdb.

Please post responses back to the list.

Horizontal and Vertical Navigation Fields

2007-03-02 Thread Tucker, Rob
Hello All:

I have an interesting problem what has me tearing my hair out. (What
little I have left)

I have a DO form with two horizontal and one vertical navigation fields.

Most of my users are fine, but with some users, in place of the nav
fields, are getting a "Page Cannot be Displayed" IE error. This is using
the windows client. MidTier is fine.

This spans multiple versions of IE and is on both Win XP and Win2000
OS.s

I have played with IE security settings, verified the server can be
pinged both in short and FQDM formats from the workstations having the
problems. Mid can be accessed with no problem on the same server from
these workstations.

Windows Client 7.00.01 patch 001
ARS 7.00.01 patch 001

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated,

-Rob

Hello,

A few weeks ago as a tangent of a completely different thread, the topic
of a Portland RUG came up. I received a few responses from people that
were interested, but I wanted to see if there were any others out there
that would be interested in attending. And what are your primary areas
of interest?

Last year in Seattle, BMC held a free, half-day version of their
"Airport Simulation" seminar
(http://www.bmc.com/education/servicemgmt/courses/q-itil-150.htm). I
found it a nice introduction to ITIL concepts. Maybe we could do
something like that here if there was interest? Or anything else. I'm
not sure what people are more interested in, a 3/4 day "event", or a 2
hour "evening with friends over a beer" kind of thing. Or both. :-)

Anyway, contact me if you are interested and we can work out the details
off-list.

Re: Oracle LOB relocation

2007-02-13 Thread Tucker, Rob
My DBA's are having a real problem with setting cursor-sharing parameter
for the entire instance. Evidently is cause some problems in the other
table spaces.

Is there a means of setting the parameter for just the ars session?
Something like the following when the server is started?

ALTER SESSION set CURSOR_SHARING = FORCE;"

Slightly OT, but you may want to instruct your dba's to set the oracle
instance parameter 'cursor_sharing' to similar or force. This will
greatly reduce the size requirements of oracle's shared pool and greatly
reduce hard parses.

This whitepaper covers some of the details:
http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/78/31/67831/67831.pdf

My favorite quote from this doc: "Any application that uses all literals
without cursor sharing enabled is not a very scalable application."

the dba do it directly on the db. This will cause endless headaches for
you and them. Probably the best approach would be:

- set up the server
- create the ardb.conf file to define the log storage
- have the dba's manually move the lobs while arserver is
stopped
- start arserver

You will more than likely need to experiment with the ardb.conf
and some test forms to make sure you get the syntax right. Taking this
approach (the best I can see at the moment) has several advantages:
- installer gets to run as it normally would
- dba's feel cozy because they witnessed the relocation of the
lobs
- the lobs will be managed on an ongoing basis by the ardb.conf
file

Some things to keep in mind:
- you will need to update the ardb.conf every time a new lob is
added (prior to adding the lob); failure to do so will cause the lob to
be stored in the same tablespace as tables/indexes
- the ardb.conf file had some issues in 6.0.1 with length
limitations on the clauses (300 something characters). I am not sure if
this issue exists in the later releases

Some other things your dba's may want to look into as far as
performance tuning if you go this route (these are possible using the
ardb.conf file as well):
- index storage
- table/index partitioning

It sounds like you still have something in your system referencing the
old alias. Can you look in the ar.cfg file and see if it has the old

armonitor.cfg file and make sure it also has the new alias name in it.

the new hostname in the server alias field.

"ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System

Where I have is the name I see when I go to File ->
Server information in the Remedy Administrator tool. This is not the
hostname of our current remedy server. It is the name of the old remedy
server. I tried to change the name from the Remedy Administrator tool
which it let me do, but when I try to log in after restarting the
service, I get this error from Remedy Administrator:

"This version of the Action Request System(R) is ready for us eor
evaluation without purchasing or activating an authorization key. For
unlimited capabilities, contact your sales representative or visit

(ARERR 2877)
"

Under C:\Program Files\Common Files\AR System\Licenses there is a folder
with the old hostname. Do we need to reapply the licenses after chaning
the server alias? Will this fix the original error that it cannot
connect to the Plug-In server?

I'm thinking that since I have do do this and am no longer on a remote

the having to repaint all the workflow anyway.

** Was the name in upper case letters?

I was playing with the View form stuff for a little bit and was watching
SQL logs to see what exactly it was doing. One thing you might try is
turning on SQL logging and create a new view form. You will then be able
to see the exact SQL it runs. I saw stuff about selecting from the
all_tables and all_columns tables using the provided
[EMAIL PROTECTED] vlalue.

I also thought more about this and realized that if you're recreating
all of the view forms, that is like recreating a regular form. If you
have work flow tied to that form it will also need to also be created.
Any table fields using those views would have to be reconstructed. A ton
of work for 80 forms!
So, I started playing with trying to just change the DB Link value. I
was able to recreate the underlying (T???) view with the a new DB Link
value. The existing view form used the new DB Link and pointed to the
new database. This is probably not supported by BMC but might be a quick
way to get you back up and running.

dblink cannot share the name as the instance, I have to redo the view
forms.

Trouble is when I attempt to create a view form as
follows: OMS.OI_END_USER_VW

I get this error: Requested database table not found.
Please check the spelling (table name is case-sensitive) (ARERR 481).

You'll note that the schema.table name are identical to
before and I have verified them as being correct.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

How many views do you have to redo?

I originally had the remedy database in it's own instance of
oracle. For reasons knows only to the powers that be, we have moved the
tablespace from it's own instance to a shared instance.

The system runs fine except for all my view forms that
previously used a db link to pull data.

The view forms were built similar to:

where PHNXP.WORLD was the db link.

Subject: Flashboards not working

Hi all.

My flashboards is not working properly (in WUT and mid-tier). The problem is
the image is not displayed, like if the URL was incorrect.

Using midtier I can find the URL that is trying to retrieve, and is something
like:

http://arsys/servlet/FBImageServlet?key=SERVER%3AUSER%3A248

but... ¿where is the webserver name?

If I copy this URL in the browser and modify including the webserver name
(something like http://WEBSERVERNAME/arsys/servlet/FBImageServlet?
key=SERVER%3AUSER%3APWD), the image shows properly...

In another server, everything is working fine. The only difference I can see
between servers is that in the machine with the error, I use a virtualhost to
connect to Remedy Midtier, so I don't use the IP or the servername, but a
virtualhost.

¿¿¿Any Idea

Thanks.

Tree Table Fields

2006-12-21 Thread Tucker, Rob
Does anyone out there know what would prevent character fields having a
length of 60 char and not being display only fields from being available
in the sort/levels of a table (tree) based on that same base form? I
have read that of course DO fields and those with a length over 128
characters aren't available, but these don't fit the bill and I'm left
scratching my head.

Do any of you good
folks who work for Telecom companies have access to any industry standard
practices for categorization of network issues?

I'm being told that
there exists a standard industry coding.

Thanks,

Hey David:

Here is a dirty little
app I cooked up some time ago that will give you the file size. You can tear the
filters apart to see what I did. I haven't looked at it in a while, so I
apologize for whatever you might find :)

I have a strange request to put the size of an attachment in a number
field. I have been searching the documentation and have been unable to find any
reference to the size.

Does anyone know how to do this?
